WADE H. CARDER JR.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Wade Hampton Carder Jr. of State College, died Monday, March 16, 1998, at The Fairways at Brookline Village, State College.
Born March 24, 1915, in Mineral County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wade Hampton and Lulu Mulledy Carder. On Jan. 30, 1946, in Bedford Valley, Pa., he married Hazel Marie Elliott, who preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1996.

He was a 1933 graduate of Allegany High School, Cumberland, Md. In 1941 he graduated from Clemson University with honors, receiving a B.S. degree in Textile Chemistry and a commission as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Officer Reserve Corps.

He served with distinction in the U.S. Army from Aug. 1, 1941, to April 6, 1946. During combat duty in the European Theater of Operations he served as the Company Commander of an Armored Infantry company and earned the rank of Captain. He received the American Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, World War II Victory medal, American Campaign medal, European, with three Battle Stars and the Bronze Star.

Following his release from active duty, he accepted a position as a Staff Textile Chemist for the American Viscose Corporation at its Lewistown Plant, Lewistown, Pa., advancing to the position of Technical Superintendent.

Active in community affairs, he served as president of the Lewistown Lions Club and The American Viscose Corporation Foremen's Club. He was Chairman of the Boy Scout Troop committee of the Grove Memorial Methodist Church, and a trustee of the Church. He was a director of the Lewistown Tennis Association and president of the Lewistown Chapter of American Field Service for Foreign Student Exchange.

In 1968 he was transferred to the Front Royal division of the FMC Corporation from which he retired as Director of Quality Control in 1980. During this period, he was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church, a president of the Front Royal Country Club and a member of the American Legion Post 53.

As an avid golfer, he had the distinction of scoring three holes-in-one.

He is survived by one son, Dr. John Elliott Carder, State College; a granddaughter, Brooke Hampton Carder; and daughter-in-law, Deborah R. Carder, both also of State College; and a sister, Josephine Potter, Fairmont, W.Va.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 1998, at 2 p.m. at The Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton St., State College, PA 16801, with the Rev. Dr. Harry Covert officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Wade and Hazel Carder Endowed Women's Golf Scholarship, University Development, One Old Main, University Park, PA 16802; or to Brookline Home Care and Hospice, 3901 South Atherton St., State College, PA 16801.

C. LAWRENCE BECKER
CLEARVILLE, Pa. - C. Lawrence Becker, 87, of Clearville, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 22, 1910, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Casper Michael Becker and the late Elmer Louis (Hollenberger) Becker. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Gary L. Becker, on Nov. 1, 1988, and Marvin L. Becker, on Feb. 3, 1990; and two brothers, Gilbert Becker and DeSalles Becker.

Mr. Becker was a meter inspector for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 271; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245; Knights of Columbus Council 586; and the Quarter Century Club of Columbia Gas System.

Surviving are a wife, M. Margaret "Peg" (Bridges) Becker, Clearville; a son, Kenneth H. Becker and wife Donna, Twin Falls, Idaho; a brother, Vincent Becker, Cumberland, Md.; and a sister, Isabelle Dawson, Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard L. White officiating.

Interment will be in Seven Dolors Catholic Church cemetery.

A Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

BETTY J. BLOUGH
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Betty Jean Blough, 78, of Greencastle, formerly of Somerset, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at her home.
Born Sept. 16, 1919, at Ralphton, she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Ada (Heiple) Shaffer. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Clyde H. Blough, on Sept. 15, 1993; a son, Clyde H. Blough Jr.; a grandson; and a brother, Carl A. Shaffer.

Surviving are three sons, Paul E. Blough and Nikki L. Blough, both of RD 1, Hyndman, and Jeffrey T. Blough, Spokane, Wash.; four daughters, Sue Ann Bittner, Somerset, Cindy L. Romesburg, Meyersdale, Karen D. Horner, Mercersburg, and Colleen Kennell, RD 1, Hyndman; a foster daughter, Jolee Brindle, Greencastle; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sue Pelesky, Stoystown, and Nancy Secrest, Scotland, Pa.

Mrs. Blough was a homemaker, and a former nurse at the Somerset Hospital.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Meyers officiating.

Interment will be in the Comps cemetery.

MILDRED L. BINGMAN
HAMPTON, Va. - Mildred Leona Bingman, 80, formerly of Bedford Valley, Pa., died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at her home in Hampton.
Born Nov. 4, 1918, in Bedford County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy H. Nave and the late Carrie C. (Miller) Nave. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Richard Bingman, in November 1971.

Surviving are a son, Martin Bingman and wife, Edith, Hampton; twin sons, Ray Bingman and wife, Betty, Hampton, and Roy Bingman and wife, Marlene, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Carol Belfiore and husband, Frank, Hampton; a sister, Pearl Anderson and husband, Elwood, Cumberland, Md.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. at Centerville Fellowship cemetery with the Rev. Barbara Ammann officiating.

Interment will be in Centerville Fellowship cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Medical College of Virginia's Hospitality House, in memory of Mildred Bingman, P.O. Box 10090, Richmond, VA 23240.

J. VERNON BISHOP
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - J. Vernon Bishop, 76, of 4612 Old Easton Road, Doylestown, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at his residence after a four-month illness.
Born April 4, 1921, in Doylestown, he was the son of the late Walter S. and Priscilla (Bergey) Bishop.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Anna F. Dayton, of Ridgeley, W.Va.; four sons, James Bishop, Harrisonburg, Va., Robert Bishop, Doylestown, Eric Bishop, Souderton, Pa., and Michael Bishop, Blooming Glen, Pa.; one daughter, Rebecca Swartzendruber, German Valley, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

A private burial was held in the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 2, followed by a memorial service at the church at 7 p.m.

ALBERTA R. BITTNER
MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Alberta Rosella Bittner, 76, of 299 Bittner Road, Meyersdale, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at her home.
Born July 24, 1922, in Ellerslie, Md., she was a daughter of the late Lester and Anna (Lowery) Conner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Clinton, in 1996; four sisters; and three brothers.

Mrs. Bittner was a former employee of Meyersdale Manufacturing and Woolworth Department Store.

Surviving are her children, Donald, Merle, Leroy and Sharon Robinson and Karon Thompson, all of Meyersdale, and Gloria Geary, Mount Savage, Md.; two guardian children, Marjorie Sines and Linda Most, Meyersdale; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; sister, Mildred King, Ellerslie; and three nieces and nephews whom she raised.

Friends were received at the Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Craig Lyman officiating.

Interment will be in the St. John's (Temple) cemetery.

S. HAZEL CLITES
SALISBURY, Pa. - S. Hazel Clites, 89, of 116 Old Route 219, Salisbury, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Meyersdale Medical Center.
Born May 11, 1909, in Boynton, she was a daughter of the late Eli and Martha (Shirey) Clites. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Benjamin, Homer, Edward and Curtis Clites.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret O'Donnell, Salisbury; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Miss Clites formerly operated Clites Guest Home, Bedford, prior to her retirement.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Md., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Ralph Miller and Carlton Schooley officiating.

Interment will be in Lybarger cemetery, Madley.
