CATHERINE "Aunt Jack" HUGHES, 101 years of age, of 18th & Center Street,
Ashland, PA died Sunday evening at St. Catherine Medical Center, Ft. Springs, PA
She went to our Lord in the presence of her niece Gail Kober and great niece Kris.
Born in Ashland, PA July 12, 1907 she was the daughter of the late William and
Melinda Hoffman Evans. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church,
Ashland, PA. Worked for 14 years for the Department of Education until her
retirement. She graduated from Ashland High School Class of 1925 and was a
Charter Member of the Ashland Area Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Hughes in 1958.
One Sister survives: Mildred Schlader of Millersburg, PA
Four sisters preceded her in death: Helen Zerby, & Anna Blank, Jane Jeffery and Hannah Evans.
Surviving are her niece Gail wife of John Kober, East Petersburg, PA and their children: Lori Baldwin, Timothy Kober, Kris Berger, Leanne Kober & Matthew Kober.
Nieces and Nephews surviving: Donald Jeffery, Carol McCormick, Shirley Hain,
Pat Ruller, Ronald Zerby, Janet Zerby, Wayne Zerby and Kay Fertig.
Great Neices & Nephews survive and also one greatgreat niece and two great great nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 12 Noon from
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, PA. Rev. Dana Heckman Beil officiating.
Interment in Christ Church cemetery, Fountain Springs, PA

Gary L. Boyer, 57, Maple Street Reading. passed away Sunday,
August 24, 2008 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Reading, PA
Born in Ashland, PA February 7, 1951 he was the son of Joyce (Heffner) Boyer of Ashland and the late Arthur Boyer, died in 1998.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a sister: Donna Sharp.
Surviving are two sisters and three brothers:
Kay Kroh, Ashland, PA; Bonnie Gawrylik, Shenandoah, PA; Arthur " Sam "Boyer,
Williamstown, PA; Cab Boyer, Ashland, PA; and Randy Boyer, Mt. Carmel, PA
His companion survives: Yvonne Gorman of Reading, PA.
Services will be held at the convenience of the Family in Brock cemetery, Ashland.

CHARLES "Popcorn" KORN, 68, 427 West Biddle St., Gordon, PA died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Reading, PA.
Born in Ashland, PA April 3, 1940 he was the son of the late Maurice and Jennie (Klock) Korn. He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon, PA
He was a member of the Ashland Elks BPOE 384; Ashland Lodge No. 294 F&AM;
Griscom Royal Arch Chapter No.219; Good Fellowship Club, Ashland; Citizens Fire
Company, Gordon, PA; Union County Sportsman Club. He was last employed at Tri State Envelope Corp., Ashland until his retirement. He graduated from Ashland High School Class of 1958 and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
Surviving are his wife Lynn Walter Korn of Gordon, PA.
Two daughters, three sons: Tracy Hughes, Gordon, PA; Mikki Kaufman, Frackville, PA; David Korn, Rochester, N Y; Charles "Bo" Korn, Gulfport, Miss.; &
Scott Korn of Gordon, PA.
A sister: Sandra Schenk of Ashland, PA survives.
Ten grandchildren; one great grandchild Nieces & nephews survive.

Herman V. Beury Sr., 82, of 507 Dutchtown Road Ashland. passed away Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 at his residence.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, PA December 29, 1925 he was the son of the late Howard and Mary (Koehler) Beury Wolf. He owned and operated Herman Beury Machine Shop in Ashland until his retirement. He was a member of the Ashland Gun Club and the Elysburg Trap Club and he was an avid Trap Shooter.
He was preceded in death by his wife June (Meier) Beury in 2000.
A son survives: Herman husband of Annie Beury of Ashland.
One sister, two brothers survive: Pearl Reichwein, Ashland, PA; Howard Beury, Forrestville, PA; & Marlin Beury of Pottsville, PA.
A granddaughter survives: Janine Beury, Kulpmont, PA.
Preceding him in death: A grandson: Herman Eric Beury, 2007; A sister: Martha Ossman and Brother Guy Beury preceded him in death.

Thomas B. Slotterback, 78, of 331 Center Street Ashland. passed away Monday, October 13th, 2008 peacefully at his residence.
Born in Connerton, PA October 28, 1929 he was the son of the late Leroy and Blanche (Tedrick) Slotterback. He was a member of St. Mauritius Church, Ashland.
Graduated from Butler Twp. High School Class of 1947 and worked at Eastern Steel Barrel Corp., Piscataway, N.J. as director of purchases until his retirement.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in Salzburg, Austria.

Born in Ashland, PA November 22, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Millie Pitts Hoffman. She worked as a beautician for many years working for
Heplers Beauty Shop in Ashland until her retirement. She attended Ashland Schools
She was preceded in death by her husband James Smith in 1987.
Surviving are a daughter and one son: Deborah McCoy of Dornsife, PA.
Son(s): Robert Smith of Lock Haven, PA. A son James Smith of Died in 2008.
One sister survives: Bertha Zeckman of Philadelphia, PA.
A brother preceded her in death Dr. Harry Hoffman.
Five grandchildren survive: Tracy Galante; Ronald Swiderski; Thomas Delaney; Megan Smith and Graham Smith.

Born in Ashland, PA February 8, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Claire and Sarah Hornberger. She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church in Ashland, PA. She worked for many years at Ashland Shirt Corp., Ashland, PA until her retirement. She was a member of the Gordon Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph Pitok October 28, 2003.
A daughter survives Debra wife of Mark Prentice of Camp Hill, PA.
Surviving are a sister Florence Heiser, Ashland, PA. A brother preceded her in death: Leonard Hornberger. Surviving are a granddaughter Elizabeth Pretice of Camp Hill, PA. Nieces Lillian Klitsch, Ashland, PA & Barbara Merwine Lavelle, PA survive. A nephew survives: Joseph Lally, Mississippi. A cousin Shirley Losch of Ashland survives.
