Alice T. Cook
Alice T. (Kuk) Cook, 79, died Wednesday at the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Broad Street Campus.
Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Andrew (Kuk) Cook and Veronica Petrick.
She was a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.
She was a retired machine operator from Tung Sol, Weatherly.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were sisters, Veronica Scheitrumpf and Marie Gaffney, and brothers Andrew Cook and Raymond Cook,
Surviving are daughter, Peggy Rolland, Drums; and two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Boyle Funeral Home, 100 S. Wyoming St., Hazleton, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Frances Enders
Frances Enders, 89, formerly 336 W. South St., Mahanoy City, died Wednesday at the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Church Street Campus.
Born March 25, 1913 in Mahanoy City, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Pollack) Smarr and resided in Mahanoy City all of her life.
She attended local schools and retired from Eagle Brothers Shirt Factory.
Enders was a member of St. Canicus Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were her husband James Enders, in 1992; brothers, Augustine, Bernard, and Raymond Smarr, and John Smarr, who died in World War II.
Surviving are sons, James, Ringtown, and Richard Enders, Hamburg; and a sister, Kathryn Fecko, Mahanoy City.
Six grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Louis Truskowsky Funeral Home, 300 W. Center St., Mahanoy City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Canicus R.C. Church, Mahanoy City.
Interment will follow in Sky View cemetery, Hometown.
Friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Clarence Y. Bassett
Clarence Y. Bassett, 85, of E. County Road, Sugarloaf, died early Wednesday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, following a short illness.
Born in Rush Township, he was the son of the late Jeremiah S. and Kathryn (Yeager) Bassettt and spent the past 50 years in Sugarloaf after moving from Danville.
He was a retired line crew Forman for PP & L and retired in 1981 after 44 years of service to the company. He was a member of the PP & L Retirees Club and was a 1936 graduate of Danville High School.
Mr. Bassett was a member of Conyngham United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Danville.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years on May 29, 2002, the former Dorothy C. Everett; son, Ronald, Wind Gap; daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Linda) Boland, Macungie; brothers, Alvin, Sunbury, and Russell and Leonard Carl, both of Danville; sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Erdman, Riverside, Mrs. Walter (Geraldine) Herman, Sunbury, and Mrs. William (Isabelle) Fleming, Bloomsburg.
Two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home Inc., (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. His pastor, the Rev. Ross Mowery will officiate the services.
Burial will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

Louise A. Rudewick
Louise A. Rudewick, 75, of Brookhill Square West, Conyngham, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Luke Manor, Hazleton, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Hazleton, July 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Rzoncki) Bayarski and spent the past 28 years in Conyngham after moving from Ohio.
She was a retired Real Estate Agent and had been employed by Kissinger Real Estate, State College and Benjamin Realty, Conyngham.
Rudewick was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Conyngham and the Conyngham Lioness.
She was a 1945 graduate of Hazleton High School, where she played in both the school orchestra and marching band.
She was fluent in five languages, and for more than 24 years, she served faithfully with her husband of 56 years, William K. Rudewick, Sr., a retired Air Force Officer and former assistant to the president of MMI Preparatory School, Freeland; in Germany, Bulgaria, and various other countries using her multilingual talents to communicate with governmental and civilian dignitaries.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were a brother Edward Bayarski and sisters, Marcella Stefanick and Dorothy Bayarski.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a son, William K. Jr., San Diego, Calif. and a daughter, Mrs. James (Nancy)Biello, New Vernon, N.J.
Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Evanko, Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. John Bosco R. C. Church, Conyngham.
Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National cemetery.
Friends may call Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Richard H. ‘Bussy’ Herring
Richard H. “Bussy” Herring, 85, of Nuremberg, died Wednesday afternoon at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a short illness.
Born in Nescopeck, April 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mattie (Schlauch) Herring and spent most of his life in Nuremberg, except for the past two years, when he resided in Rock Glen with his friend and caregiver, Janet Kahley.
Prior to retirement, Herring was a service manager for J.L. Feissner Ford, Berwick and held the service manager’s position for 18 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Nuremberg, the Valley Tuesday Night Church Bowling League, and the National Rifle Association.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, the former Ethel Hasker, in 1991; son, Roger; brother, John; and a sister, Ruth Herring.
Surviving are sons, Donald, Berwick; and Jeffrey, Fern Glen; sisters, Mrs. Carl (Virginia) Brown, Millersville; and Mrs. Richard (Lois) Peterson, Lancaster.
Four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home Inc., (West) Conyngham-Rock Glen Road.
Continued services will be held at 2:30 p.m. from Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Nuremberg.
His pastor, the Rev. Thomas Beam will officiate the services.
Interment will be in the Roselawn cemetery, Berwick.

Julie D. Kobelka
Julie D. Kobelka, formerly of 536 Centre St. Freeland, died Wednesday afternoon at Butler Valley Manor, Drums.
She was a member of St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church, Freeland and was preceded in death by her husband Michael Kobelka.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the McHugh-Wilczek Funeral Home, Freeland.

Catherine G. Kochie
Catherine G. Kochie, 104, formerly of Freeland, and a guest at the Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazleton, died Tuesday evening at the center.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Nov. 4, 1898, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Brodzinski) Deitch.
Mrs. Kochie was a member of St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church, Freeland and a lifetime member of the Freeland Northside Senior Citizens.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Andrew J., 1966; sons, Edmund, Thomas, and Alfred Kochie; brothers, Alfred and Edward Deitch; sisters, Julia Quinn, Stella Palir, Lottie Kozel, and one granddaughter.
Surviving are sons, Joseph, Jackson, N.J., and Robert Kochie, Wendell, N.C.; and a sister, Violetta Watahovich, Freeland.
Thirteen grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the McNulty Funeral Home, 407 Centre St., Freeland with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Casimir’s R.C. Church, Freeland.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.
