Lester J. Shuda Sr.

Lester J. Shuda Sr. 72, of P.O. Box 14, Barnesville, and formerly of Levittown, died Monday morning at his residence.

Born in Mt. Carmel, he was the son of the late David and Bertha (Kasmir) Shuda and was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.

Mr. Shuda received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg University in 1957 and his master’s in science from Trenton State University in 1962. He had also attended Penn State and Rutgers Universities.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a teacher for 30 years in the science department for the Pennsbury School District.

Mr. Shuda was a member St. Richard’s Roman Catholic Church, Barnesville; McAdoo American Legion post 276 and volunteered his services for Senior Citizen Tax Preparation for the elderly, sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were sisters, Monica Rainis, Lillian Orlando and Joan Wojciechowski.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Margaret Miller; son, Lester J. Shuda Jr., Wayne; brother, David Shuda, Milford, Conn.; sisters, Anges Wallace, Rita Semicek Dorothy Simmons, all of Mt. Carmel; and Alberta Zarko, Elysburg.

Two grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Richard’s R.C. Church, Barnesville, with the Rev. Stephen Halabura as celebrant.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the church from 9:15 until the time of service.

The Damiano Funeral Home, Blaine and Cleveland streets, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity.

Margaret Dancho

Margaret Dancho, 80, of Bethlehem, died Wednesday at her residence.

Born in Ebervale, March 25, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Sluck) Horashock.

Mrs. Dancho was a homemaker and an avid bowler with the National Sokols, Bethlehem.

She also attended Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Bethlehem.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents were her husband, Michael Dancho, 1991; sister, Mary Solanick; and great-grandson, Michael Dancho, 1995.

Surviving are her sons, James and Donald, both of Bethlehem; brother, John Horashock and sister, Helen Horashock, both of Oakdale.

Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., from the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. from Ss. Cyril and Methodius R.C. Church, 617 Pierce St., Bethlehem.

Interment will follow at Holy Saviour cemetery, Bethlehem.

Friends and family may call Saturday at the funeral home, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be sent to Ss. Cyril and Methodius R.C. Church, 617 Pierce St., Bethlehem, Pa. 18015.

Florence M. Wallace

Florence M. Wallace, of 537 Pinaok Lane, Jim Thorpe, Penn Forest Township, and formerly of Palmyra, N.J., died Tuesday evening at her residence.

Born in Palmyra, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Gustave F. and Mae (Copeland) Feldmann, and was a 1934 graduate of Palmyra High School.

She was of the Methodist faith, and was employed as a cafeteria manager for the Charles Street School in Palmyra until her retirement in 1981.

Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Republican Club and the American Red Cross, both in Palmyra.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Millard F. Wallace, in 1984; son, Millard F. Jr.; and a brother, Gus Feldmann.

Surviving are sons, Robert N., Marlton, N.J. and Charles R., Wallace, Penn Forest; brothers, Richard, Maryland, and Lester Feldmann, Florida and a sister, Edith Reis, Louisiana.

Services will be private and there are no calling hours.

The David J. Stianche Funeral Home, 123 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of arrangements.

Jane S. Hartranft

Jane S. Hartranft, 58, of Mahanoy St., Nuremberg, died Wednesday at the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Broad Street Campus.

Born in Hazleton, July 16, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Verna (Gerhardt) Nause.

She was a life long resident of Nuremberg and a member of Black Creek United Methodist Church, Sugarloaf.

Mrs. Hartranft was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Co. and was employed at the former Kathy Fashions, Nuremberg, until her retirement.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas (Patcher) Hartranft, with whom she would have celebrated her 38th wedding anniversary, Oct. 3; daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Wendy) Halcisak, West Hazleton; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home, Inc., (West) Conyngham-Rock Glen Road, where her pastor, the Rev. Joseph Barth will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Black Creek United Methodist cemetery, Sugarloaf.

Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Nuremberg Community Ambulance Association, Nuremberg, Pa. 18241.

Paulo Metkow

Paulo Metkow, 65, 70 W. Juniper St., Hazleton, died Saturday morning at his home.

He was born in Bulgaria and was Catholic.

Mr. Metkow was employed as a cook at the former Coney Island Restaurant, Hazleton.

Surviving are a son, two brothers and two grandchildren, all in Bulgaria.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Boyle Funeral Home Inc., Hazleton.

The funeral of Michael P. Marazik Jr. of Walnut Street, Hazleton, who died Sunday at the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance Broad Street Campus, was held Wednesday from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home, (East), Butler Road, Drums.

The Rev. George Kohler officiated. Burial was in Mount Laurel Memorial Park, Hazleton.

Military rites were accorded by members of the Weatherly American Legion Post 360, who also served as pallbearers. Participating were Dan and Jack Shields, Ray Vishnesky, Theodore Bretsky, Dan Davidovich, and Dominic DeLuca.

Mary Jane Towle

Mary Jane Towle, 79, of 248 West Rowe St., Tamaqua, formerly of Pottsville died Wednesday at Manor Care, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Royal L. and Emily Miriam (Rodgers) Towle and was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Tamaqua.

She was also a member of the former Tamaqua Women's Club and of the Auxiliary of Tamaqua American Legion Post.

A 1941 graduate of Pottsville High School, Ms. Towle was employed as the office manager of the former Reinharts Distributor, Tamaqua where she retired in 1987. She was also employed as the general manager of Lakewood Musical Playhouse, Lakewood; and during World War II worked for the Manhattan Project, Washington, D.C.

Surviving are one niece, one nephew and one great nephew, all of Tamaqua.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery, Tamaqua.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 West Market St., Pottsville, Pa., 17901.

The Zizelmann-Roche Funeral Home, 500 East Broad St., Tamaqua is in charge of the arrangements.

Marian Stair Grabko

Marian Stair Grabko, 75, of Newark, Del., died Aug. 30, at Millcroft Nursing Home in Newark, Del., following an extended illness.

Born in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Verna Rinehimer Stair.

She graduated from Coughlin High School in 1945 and lived in Wilkes-Barre, Kingston and Berwick before moving to Newark.

Mrs. Grabko worked in retail sales for many years at various department stores including John Wanamaker, Hecht's, Lord and Taylor an the Newark Department Store. Most recently, she was a customer service representative for American Home Patient. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newark.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Nicholas R. Grabko Sr.

Surviving are sons, Nicholas R. Jr., Newark, Del.; Michael Todd, Millsboro, Del.; a sister, Viola Mrochko, Hazleton; a brother, Arthur L. Stair, Springfield, Mo. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services and burial were held Sept. 4 in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, Del.

Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, Del., 19810.
