Anna M. Gallagher

Anna M. Gallagher, a registered nurse and a former resident of 944 Washington St., Freeland, died Thursday evening at Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazleton.

Born in Harleigh, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Ellen O’Donnell, and a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Freeland.

A graduate of St. Ann’s High School, Freeland, she received her nursing degree from the Hazleton State Hospital School of Nursing. Prior to retiring, she was on staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hazleton.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Peter Gallagher, 1998; brothers, James, Cornelius, John, Joseph and Peter O’Donnell Jr.; sisters, Helen Kelly and Margaret McHugh; and a grandson, Thomas.

Surviving are sons, John Gallagher, Hazleton; and Thomas Gallagher, Freeland; a sister, Mrs. Alice Bogansky, Levittown; one granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the McHugh-Wilczek Funeral Home, 249 Centre St., Freeland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s R.C. Church.

Burial will take place in St. Ann’s cemetery, Freeland.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The Freeland Roman Catholic Community Bereavement Committee will conduct a Christian wake service that evening.

Anna Bolicavage

Anna Bolicavage, 330 E. Pine St., Frackville, died Friday at Schuylkill Manor, Pottsville.

Born in Coal Castle, Minersville area, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Petrus) Yulich, and a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Frackville, and the Sacred Heart Society of the parish.

Prior to retiring in 1974, she was employed as a seamstress in area factories, last employed at the (former) Charles Rabin factory, Frackville, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Stephen Bolicavage, 1982; brothers, Ely, John, 1972; and Andrew Yulich, 1987; and a sister, Veronica Cmorey, 1999.

Surviving are her nephew and his wife, Jason and Deborah, her caregivers, with whom she resided; a brother, Michael Yulich, Langhorne; sisters, Helen Litwak, Shenandoah; Mary Stevens, Frackville; Pauline Morawski, Piscataway, N.J.; and Julia Jackson, Reading. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Arrangements will be announced by the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Third and Washington Streets, Frackville.

Arthur Frasch Jr.

Arthur Frasch Jr., 77, 1319 Walnut St., Ashland, died Wednesday at his residence in Ashland.

Services will be held Friday at the convenience of the family at Christ Church cemetery, Fountain Springs, with the Rev. Robert Sutliff officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post of Ashland, 10 N. Fifth St., Ashland, Pa 17921.

The Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Bernadine M. Lavis

Bernadine “Bertha” M. Lavis, of 124 S. Spencer St., Frackville, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at her residence.

Born in Shenandoah, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Margaret (Klemantovich) Careyva and was a Frackville resident for the greater part of her life, having attended Frackville Schools.

Mrs. Lavis was last employed at the former Mark’s Manufacturing Company for 40 years, as a seamstress and for the later 20 years as a floor lady, before retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Annunciation Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Frackville and for many years was active in church activities.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Donald A. Lavis, Nov. 25, 1979; sisters, Julia Pauza, Nellie Fritz, Stella Careyva, Veronica Careyva, and Connie Wylonis; brothers, Alphonas and Albert Careyva.

Surviving are a son, Daniel P. Lavis, Allentown and a sister, Valerie T. Marshall, Frackville.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Annunciation B.V.M. Church, 7 S. Broad Mountain Ave., Frackville. The Rev. Dominik Kalata will officiate.

Interment will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery, Frackville.

Friends may call at the church Friday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of mass.

Nice Funeral home, 9-11 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Apolinaro

Mildred Apolinaro, 95, of 70 Yank St., Courtdale, died Monday afternoon at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born in Kelayres, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Carrie Damiano.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, and a member of the altar and rosary society of the parish.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Apolinaro was employed as a seamstress for area garment factories. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and was an active member of the Kingston Senior Citizens Center.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph Apolinaro; brothers, Joseph and Angelo Damiano and a sister, Ann Fannaro.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are sons, James, Wilkes-Barre, and Carl Apolinaro, Mountaintop and a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Grace) McCue, Dallas.

Nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett St., Luzerne.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Luzerne.

Interment will follow in the Dennison cemetery, Swoyersville.

Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

The Damiano Funeral Home, Blaine and Cleveland streets, is in charge of arrangements.

Angeline A. Lacusky

Angeline “Angie” A. (Concatella) Lacusky, 81, of Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center, and formerly of 209 N. Catherine St., Shenandoah, died Tuesday evening at the Good Samaritian Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah, she was the daughter of the late James and Assunta (Matino) Concatella and was educated in the Shenandoah public schools.

Mrs. Lacusky was a retired garment worker, having last worked for the former Martin Shirt Factory, Shenandoah, and was a member of the Amalgamated Garment Workers Union.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah, and the Glover’s Hill Athletic Club Ladies Auxillary.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Charles Lacusky, in August 1996.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Mark (Annette) Sosna, Shenandoah and a sister, Anna Concatella Wyluda, R.N., Shenandoah.

One grandson, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, with the Rev. Deogratias Rwegasira, A.J., officiating.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 8 a.m. until time of service.

There will be no calling hours Thursday evening.

Donations may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Memorial Fund, 129 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, Pa. 17976.

Anna McHugh, 93, of 5841 N. W. 61st. Ave., Tamarac, Fla., and formerly of Tresckow, died Tuesday morning at the University Hospital, Tamarac, Fla.

Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Shamanski) Zimbalist.

She was a former member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, McAdoo.

Prior to retirement, she was employed as a seamstress for area garment factories and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Bernard McHugh, and several brothers and sisters.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are sons, Eugene McHugh, Hollywood, Fla., Ret. Col. Bernard McHugh, Woodridge, Va.; daughters, Mrs. Frank (Patricia) Cavallino, Tamarac, Fla.; Mrs. William (Theresa) Nilles, Daytona Beach, Fla. and Alexis Boehning, Tamarac, Fla.

Thirteen grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home, Blaine and Cleveland streets, McAdoo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, McAdoo.

Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s cemetery, McAdoo.

Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Loretta E. (Holahan) Hoffman, 80, of Berner Ave., Hazleton, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Luke Pavilion, Hazleton.
