Adele M. Mackunis
Adele M. Mackunis, 1501 Springgarden Ave., Berwick, died Saturday at Berwick Retirement Village I.
Born in McAdoo, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Chaukauska) Koslosky, and a 1933 graduate of McAdoo High School.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Berwick, and the Council of Catholic Women of the parish.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were a sister, Julia Jurus and brothers, Stanley, Edward, George and Joseph Koslosky.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Albert W. Mackunis; a daughter, Anna Mae Mackunis, Surprise, Ariz.; sons, Albert E. Mackunis, Conyngham and Robert J. Mackunis, Wilkes-Barre; a brother, Anthony Koslosky, Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Francis J. Tamburro.
Interment will take place in Pine Grove cemetery, Berwick.
Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Research.

Walter W. Rinkus Sr.
Walter W. Rinkus Sr., 76, of 866 McKinley St., Hazleton, died Saturday afternoon at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in West Hazleton, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Nawracay) Rinkus, and a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.
A naval veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946 in the rank of Seaman First Class in the Pacific and the European theatres of war.
Prior to retiring, he was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Kawicki-Berilyco and last worked at Forbo Industries.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Theresa Calinoski; sons, Walter, Sybertsville and Richard, Drums; a sister, Mrs. John (Frances) Sacco, and a brother, Norbert, both of West Hazleton and three grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul R.C. Church.
Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery, Drums.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Leonard Anthony Deren
Leonard Anthony Deren, 72, a former Hazleton resident, died Thursday afternoon at Gold Star Nursing Home, Danville.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Sac) Deren Pusaver, a 1949 graduate of Hazleton Area High School, and a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.
Prior to retiring, he was a contractor in the Hazleton area.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were brothers, Jack, Albert, Stanley and Joseph.
Surviving are his children, Leonard A., Hazleton; Lawrence, Seven Valleys; Loran, Chandler, Ariz., and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Jane) Robb, Concord, Calif.; brothers and sisters, Edward, Newton Square; Wanda Acaro, Philadelphia; Jean Farnhan, Brownville, N.J.; Mary Danielewicz, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Henry, Holland, Pa.; Helen Gudalefsky, Harrisburg; Robert Pusaver, Danville and Ronald Pusaver, Hazleton; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton.

Omar E. Bonilla
Omar E. Bonilla, 24, 418 W. Chapel St., Hazleton, died Saturday evening from injuries received in an automobile accident on Route 309 South, outside of Hazleton.
Born in the Dominican Republic, he was the son of Juan Bonilla, New York, and Lidia Torres, Hazleton, and a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton.
He was employed as a truck driver for Swift Transportation.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are siblings, Mrs. Juan (Iris) Espinal, Mrs. Rodolfo (Mercedes) Cespedes, Mrs. Lewis (Paula) Rodriguez, Marsha Bonilla and Pedro Ramirez, all of Hazleton and Mercedes Ramirez, New York. A number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends and relatives may call at St. Gabriel's R.C. Church this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at 8 p.m.
Interment will take place in Ingenio cemetery, Santiago, Dominican Republic.

Mary F. Hines
Mary F. Hines, 86, Grant Street, Hazleton, died early Saturday morning at the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Broad Street Campus.
Born in West Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Watkin B. and Mary (Loderhose) Williams, and a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton, and the Womens' Guild of the parish.
A graduate of (former) West Hazleton High School and the Geisinger School of Nursing, she had been employed as a registered nurse in Staten Island, N.Y.; Long Island, N.Y.; and at (former) Hazleton State Hospital.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph J. Hines, 1985 and brothers, Watkin and Donald Williams.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Franklin (Mary) Sarge, and Ann Hines, both of Hazleton; a son, Joseph Hines, Hazleton; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Gabriel's R.C. Church.
Burial will take place in Calvary cemetery, Drums.

Harold J. Roberts
Harold J. Roberts, 317 S. Nice St., Frackville, died Sunday at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.
Born in Frackville, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ivylean (Wesner) Roberts, and a member of St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Frackville.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre of Operations.
Prior to retiring, in 1984, he was last employed as a heavy equipment operator for Reading Anthracite.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, the former Mary Turkiewicz, 1981; a son, John, 1972 and a brother, Thomas, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Harold J. Roberts Jr., Frackville; a daughter, Janice Gudleski, Frackville; two grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.
Friends are invited to attend the Requiem Mass, to be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist PNC Church, with the Rev. Joseph Cyman, pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
There will be no public viewing.

Ruth Maude 'Cookie' DeFluri
Ruth Maude 'Cookie' DeFluri, 71, Boalsburg, Centre County, died Saturday at her home.
Born July 21, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth M. Hill, and a graduate of Hazleton High School.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Artie DeFluri and siblings, Raymond Gilbert, Leo, Robert, John and Donald Hill.
Surviving are daughters, Denise DeSousa, State College and Jeananne Prisk, Centre Hall; sons, Ronald DeFluri, Bonita Springs, Fla. and John DeFluri, Madisonburg; 10 grandchildren and siblings, Helen Carolyn, Jean Fluri, William, Thomas and Lewis Hill. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, where services will be held at 2 p.m. The Rev. Todd Confer will officiate.
Entombment will take place in Centre County Memorial Park Garden Mausoleum.

William Cullen Morris Butler Jr.
William Cullen Morris Butler Jr., who resided at The Cypress of Hilton Head, Hilton Head, S.C., died Saturday, the day he turned 85.
Prior to moving to Hilton Head, in 1992, he was president and later chairman, of Central Penn Industries, Hazleton.
In addition, he was chairman of Associated Pennsylvania Contractors; president of American Road Builders Association, Contractors Division; in 1967 was instrumental in the establishment of the Training Services Institute, Scranton, specializing in the heavy and highway construction equipment operator training for more than 3, 000 disadvantaged minority individuals from Eastern Pennsylvania and was elected 'Man of the Year' in 1977 by The American Society of Highway Engineers.
Butler held leadership positions on the National Safety Council, the Police Advisory Board of Hazleton, was on the board of directors for Hazleton National Bank, and was president of the Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.
He served in the 1301 Engineers Regiment, Army Corps of Engineers, during World War II; was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, South Carolina; was active in Boy Scouts of America most of his life and held a Silver Beaver Award for his contributions to scouting; was a member of Pine Valley Golf Course, senior warden of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Hazleton; and was on the liturgical commission of the Bethlehem Diocese.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Margaret Townsend; sons, William, Carbondale, Colo. and E. Tab, Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Paul Bellows, Conyngham.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at All Saints Episcopal Church at 3 p.m. A reception will follow the service at Cypress of Hilton Head.
