Marjorie T. Chenet, 84, of 64 Muddy Creek Church Road, Denver, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, formerly of New Jersey, died Saturday evening at 10:20 PM in Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron, PA, where she resided since August 2nd. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was a daughter of the late Walter B. and Helen (Fiske) Turney. Her husband, Paul J. Chenet, died in 1980. Mrs. Chenet was a past recording secretary for the Somerset Republican Party, Somerset, NJ, and was active in the The Meadows Historical Society also of Somerset, NJ. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She is survived by a son, Paul J. Chenet, Jr., Hamilton, NJ; a daughter, Kathleen C., married
to Michael A. Fink, Reinholds, PA; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. A sister, Julia Larson, preceded her in death.
Marjorie's memorial ceremony will be held SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2001, at 2:00 PM, from Swamp Evangelical Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Church Road, Reinholds, PA, with The Rev. Dennis L. Trout officiating. There will be no viewing. The family requests that flowers not be sent, however, you may remember her with contributions to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
Mrs. Chenet's cremains will be interred with privately by the family in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick, New Jersey.
Kelly D. Burkett

Kelly D. (Lausch) Burkett, 43, of 300 Wild Cherry Lane, Marietta, Lancaster County, died Sunday morning at 2:36 AM in a motorcycle accident in Maytown, Lancaster County.
An autopsy was conducted at Conestoga View, Lancaster, on Monday.
Born in Ephrata, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of Verna I. (Yost) Kieffer, Denver, and H. Richard Lausch, Mohnton, and was the wife of Gerald B. Burkett, Harrisburg, for the past 16 years. She was a member of Mellinger’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schoeneck, Lancaster County. A 1976 graduate of Cocalico High School, she enjoyed flower gardening, reading and was an avid Nascar fan. Kelly was the assistant manager of the K-Mart in Elizabethtown for the past 4 years. Previously she was employed as a bookkeeper for 17 years by Motor Truck Equipment Company, Carlisle. Surviving in addition to her parents is a step-father, Nevin E. Kieffer, Denver; a maternal grandmother, Irene (Getz) Yost, Denver; a son, Scott R. Simmons, Denver; 4 sisters, Stella (Kieffer) Leonti, Flying Hills (Reading), PA; Karen D. Lausch, Denver; Kim D. Kieffer, Lancaster; and Stacy M. (Lausch) Urso, Langhorne, PA; and 2 brothers, Alan, married
to Nelli (Grier) Kieffer, Lutz, Florida; and Kevin D. Kieffer, Denver.
Kelly's viewing will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from our parlor.
The casket will also be open for viewing an hour prior to the church service on Friday.
The funeral ceremony will be held on Friday, December 7, 2001, at 11:00 AM from Mellinger's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens (Schoeneck), PA, with her pastor, The Reverend Timothy L. Craven, officiating.
Burial will take place immediately following the church service in Mellinger's cemetery, Schoeneck, near her grandfather, Elmer Yost.

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Berry, 59, of 1280 Crestview Drive, Denver, Lancaster County, PA, died in her home at 12:02 AM Sunday morning following a brief illness. Born in Wilkebarre, Luzerne County, PA, she was a daughter of Elizabeth A. (Jones) Spear, Towson, Maryland, and the late Samuel Spear. She was the wife of Junior F. Berry for the past 28 years. Formerly of Ridgely, Maryland, she was a member of the Ridgely United Methodist Church. Mrs. Berry was a graduate of Chesapeake College, Easton, Maryland, and was employed for 10 years by the Easton, Maryland, Police Department as an administrator and secretary for the chief of police. Since moving to Lancaster County she was employed as a fashion consultant with Donecker’s of Ephrata. “Betty” was an artist, enjoying various mediums including oil and pastel painting and stenciling. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother is a son, James E., married
to Brenda (Galey) Stansbury, Churchton, Maryland; a daughter, Elizabeth A. (Stansbury) Conner, Denton, Maryland; a grandson; a sister, Audrey, married
to Ted Fowler, Kansas City, Kansas; and a brother, Samuel Spear, Towson, Maryland; also surviving is a step-daughter, Sandra (Berry) Christian, Odenton, Maryland; and 6 step-grandchildren.
Betty's family will receive friends for a time of sharing memories and support on Saturday, December 8, 2001, from Noon until 2:00 PM. A service celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor William A. Sloat II officiating.

Paul E. Bartsch
1920 - 2001
Paul was born in Clay Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Charles F. and Minnie (Noll) Bartsch. He and his wife, Luella B. (Weinhold) Bartsch, were married
on Christmas of 1940. He served in the Army during World War II and worked for 33 years as a bridge builder for the former J. Richard Nissley and then Bear Creek Construction of Landisville, last as assistant superintendent. Paul was a member of The Worship Center, Lancaster. He also belonged to the Cloister Post American Legion, Ephrata, the Joyce Kilmer Hunting Club, Union County, and enjoyed rose gardening. Luella and Paul had visited 49 states during their travels...all but Hawaii.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Sandra Y., married
to former state representative Terry R. Scheetz, Stevens; 2 sons, John C., married
to Linda (Bauder) Bartsch, Womelsdorf; and Scott D., married
to Cindy L. (Imhoff) Bartsch, Ephrata; 6 grandchildren, Justina, Lyn, Andrea, Penny, Danielle & Paul; and a sister, Lillian G. Getz, a resident of the E. C. Retirement Village, Myerstown.
Paul was in his residence at 25 Green Acres, Akron, being cared for by his family and Hospice of Lancaster County when he met his Lord on Sunday morning at 10:55 AM following a 21 month illness.
A viewing will be held at The Good Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 6, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:00 AM.
The service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2001, at 10:00 AM from The Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 (near Leola), with Pastor Amos Dienner & Pastor Leon H. Denlinger officiating. Further graveside services will follow from Lincoln cemetery, Ephrata.

Leon Walter Artz "Wimpy"

Bollman Hat Company Retiree - 45 Years
Leon W. “Wimpy” Artz, 84, of 106 Raybill Drive, Bowmansville, Lancaster County, died in his home Wednesday morning at 12:10 AM under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County following a lengthy illness. Born in Bowmansville, he was a son of the late Walter G. and Mary M. (Bowman) Artz, and was the husband of Violet G. (Sweigart) Artz, for 63 years on June 11, 2001. He was a member of Pine Grove Mennonite Church, Bowmansville. Artz retired in 1982 after 45 years with Bollman Hat Company, Adamstown, where he last served as supervisor. He was also a route salesman and deliveryman of the Reading Times Newspaper for 37 years, retiring in 1998 after building his client list to over 400 customers in the Southern Berks Region. “Wimpy”, a name given him in childhood for his love of hamburgers and the association with the popular cartoon character, was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Adamstown and Reinholds VFW and was an avid baseball fan, especially following the Philadelphia Phillies.
He had been a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers Farm Team and other local teams many years ago. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Patricia A. Artz, Bowmansville. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald LaMar Artz, in 1960, and a sister, Florence Sensenig.
Leon's viewing will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in our parlor. The casket will also be open prior to the services at the church on Monday.
The funeral will be held on Monday, December 10, 2001, at 10:00 AM in Pine Grove Mennonite Church, 1194 Reading Road, Bowmansville, PA 17507, with his pastor, The Reverend Jonathan E. Yoder, officiating.
Burial will follow in Pleasant View cemetery, Sinking Spring, Berks County, PA.

Lillian M. Althouse, 86, of 116 Center Avenue, Terre Hill, Lancaster County, died in her residence Monday morning at 3:00 AM under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County following a 6 month illness. Born in Adamstown, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and E. Susan Brendle. Her husband, Harry E. Althouse died in 1977. She was a member of St. John’s (Center) Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Earl, Lancaster County. Mrs. Althouse had co-owned and operated with her late husband Ye Village Restaurant, the Terre Hill Hotel and the Terre Hill Snack Bar from 1947 to 1977. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert G. Witmer, Terre Hill, with whom she resided; and Harry M. Althouse, Berwyn, PA; and 5 grandchildren. A sister, Anna E. Matz Witwer, preceded her in death.
Lillian's viewing will be held from our parlor on Thursday, January 3, 2002, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Her pastor, The Reverend Vicky G. Schaffner, will officiate. Burial will follow in Allegheny Union cemetery, Alleghenyville, Berks County, PA.
