Patricia E. Firestone
Patricia E. Firestone, 79, of Ephrata, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Ephrata Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late William B. Firestone who passed away in 1995.
Pat was born in Norristown, PA, daughter of the late William and Anna (Levan) Tarmin. She was a member of Coleman Memorial Chapel in Brickerville, PA.
In 1995 Pat retired from the former Science Press in Ephrata where she was a Book Binder.
She is survived by a son, William "Lee" Firestone, husband of Lynn Horst, of Reamstown, PA, a daughter, Linda Firestone, companion of Daniel Pannebecker of Ephrata, PA, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Pat was preceded in death by a son, Gregory L. Firestone, and a brother, William A. Tarmin.
Friends will be received at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 and from 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29. Alfred G. Caramenico
Alfred G. Caramenico, 82, of Denver, PA and formerly of Norristown, PA, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011. He was the husband of Mary G. (Grow) Caramenico.
Born in Norristown, Alfred was the son of the late Alfred G. Caramenico and Anna (Ammoroso) Caramenico. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Denver, PA.
He worked as an air conditioning serviceman and also formerly owned a restaurant in the Norristown area.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Ruth Ann, wife of David Schankweiler of Greenville, SC, Diane Jones of Denver, PA, and Lynn C. Scott of Manheim, PA; a son, Gregory Caramenico, husband of Julie, of Perkiomville, PA; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a brother, Justin Caramenico, husband of Jackie, of Lansdale, PA.
Alfred was preceded in death by a sister, Rosann Teschke.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, East Hanover Twp., Lebanon County, PA at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011.

Charles E. Schmuck
Charles E. Schmuck, 47, of Denver, PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2011 at his residence. He was the son of Leona M. (Mohler) Schmuck and the late Galen E. Schmuck.
Charles was a carpenter and worked in construction and mobile home fabrication. He was a lifelong resident of Lancaster County and loved animals.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Serena A. Schmuck of Denver, PA; two grandsons: Raiyn L. Weeple of Denver, PA and Chantz M. Gray of Lancaster, PA; and a brother, Galen Schmuck, Jr.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gayden Troy.
Memorial services will be held at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. Friends will be received from 6-6:30 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Mary E. Moyer
Mary E. Moyer, 99, of Ephrata, PA, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Denver Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late Earl Moyer who passed away in 1991.
Mary was born in Reinholds, PA, daughter of the late Daniel and Katie (Gromis) Klapp. She was a member of Swamp United Church of Christ, AMVETS Home Association, VFW Post #3376 Ephrata, and the Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a sister, Fannie Shirker of Ephrata, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by two sisters: Hattie Wike and Louise Riehl, and four brothers: Ralph Klapp, Daniel Klopp, Paul Klopp, and Richard Klopp.

Richard D. Winters
World War II Veteran, Richard "Dick" Winters of Hershey and formerly of Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday January 2, 2011 at Columbia Cottage in Palmyra, PA.
Dick was the son of the late Richard N. Winters and Edith Esbenshade Winters of Lancaster County, PA. Raised in Ephrata and Lancaster, he graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in June 1941. He immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private. After basic training he attended Officers Candidate School, deciding to become a paratrooper and during the war rose through the ranks to become a Major.
After the loss of the Company Commander on the jump into Normandy on D-Day, Dick became Company Commander of Company E, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On D-Day morning, Dick led the company into the battle at Brecourt where they knocked out four German artillery pieces which were firing on the American soldiers landing on Utah Beach. For this action he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. He continued to lead Easy Company through the Holland Campaign, after which he was appointed Battalion Executive Officer. Dick led the battalion in the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne and was promoted to Battalion Commander. Dick then commanded the battalion through the final advance into Germany and Berchtesgaden in 1945.
Dick's wartime exploits and experiences have been publicized world-wide by the book "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose, the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers" and his personal memoir "Beyond Band of Brothers" written with the aid of his friend, Col. Cole Kingseed.
After the war he worked at Nixon Nitration Works and Johnson and Johnson in New Jersey until he accepted a position as sales representative for Whitmoyer Laboratories in Myerstown, PA and later was a grain broker and distributor of animal nutritional products for Poorbaugh Grain, Lancaster, PA.
In 1971 he formed his own company R. D. Winters Supply Company Inc. to distribute animal feed products and nutritional supplies to feed mills. He later added R. D. Winters Inc. to sell Hershey by-products for animal feed. After twenty-five years in business he retired in 1996.
Survivors include his wife of over sixty years, Ethel E. Winters, his son Richard T. Winters husband of Diana, and grandson Jake. He is also survived by his daughter Jill and her husband, Ed Peckelun. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Beatrice and his sister Ann Sheehan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any veteran's hospital.
Funeral services were private. A public memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced shortly.
David A. Irvin
David A. Irvin of Akron, PA died Thursday Jan. 6, 2011 peacefully at home three weeks short of his 92nd birthday.
David was born 1919 in Altoona, PA, the son of Arthur S. and Mollie Keene Irvin. He graduated in 1941 from Franklin & Marshall College with a degree in economics. As a member of the varsity wrestling and football teams he earned a place in the college's Athletic Hall of Fame as well as offers to play professional football. He turned down those offers to marry the love of his life, Marion Humphrey, making Lancaster County their home.
David worked as Assistant Plant Controller at the Lancaster Armstrong World Industries Plant taking an early retirement in 1981 to care for his wife who passed away in 1983.
He was a lifelong active member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata serving as Sunday School teacher, Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, and President of the Consistory. He was also a Finance and Building Committee Member for the United Church of Christ Homes in Annville and Ephrata, PA. He was most proud of his leadership role in the founding of the Ephrata Manor and he continued his support of the Manor until several years ago as both board member and volunteer.
He played a prominent role in the establishment of Ephrata Area Rehabilitation Services, and, until recently, remained active as an officer and board member. He served on the boards of the Ephrata Golden Years Club, the Ephrata Recreation Center, and was a charter member of the Akron Borough Zoning Board.
David was a volunteer with Hospice of Lancaster County, a 20 year Red Cross volunteer, and a 28 year volunteer at Ephrata Hospital.
He is survived by his daughter Judith Anne, of Pittsfield, MA, and her husband Dr. Manuel F. Yvars; and his son David H. Shipley of Salem, SC, and his wife Phyllis.
Also surviving are three grandchildren: Breta, Christopher, and Todd; four great grandchildren: Alexandra, Eli, Sophie, and Jackson; a sister, Isabel Foley of Fairfield, CT, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In recent years he came to consider his caregivers members of his family too.
Friends will be received at Bethany U.C.C. 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, PA from 9-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 13. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 with the Rev. Stephen Ericson officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Evangelical cemetery, Akron, PA.

Dorothy M. Wambold
Dorothy M. Wambold, 79, of Ephrata, PA, died on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Manor Care Health Services in Elizabethtown, PA after a lengthy illness.
Born in West Lampeter Township, PA, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Jonathan R. and Anna N. (Metzler) Weaver. She was a lifetime resident of Lancaster County and a Past District President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Dorothy worshipped in the Christian Faith and attended services at Grace Fellowship in Ephrata and The Worship Center in Lancaster, PA.
An avid bowler, Dorothy was a longtime member of the Ladies Dutch Nut League at Dutch Lanes in Akron, PA and the Women's Lancaster County 600 Club.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters: Donna S. Clapper of Leola, PA and Lee Ann, wife of Randy L. Martin of Elizabethtown, PA; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Elizabeth Lutz (Howard) of Lauschtown, PA, Arlene Hauck of Gordonville, PA and Beatrice Yoder (Aquilla) of Intercourse, PA; and four brothers: David M. Weaver (Esther) of Landis Homes, Jacob M. Weaver of Atglen, PA, Paul M. Weaver (Betty) of Paradise, PA, and Lloyd M. Weaver (Mary Jane) of Lancaster, PA.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer M. and Raymond M. Weaver.

Marilyn J. Lapp
Marilyn J. Lapp, 77, of Akron, PA, died on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at Ephrata Manor. She was the wife of Eli S. Lapp and they were married
on April 27, 1963.
Born in Blue Ball, PA, Marilyn was a daughter of the late Paul H. and Mary M. (Martin) Good. She was employed for 37 years at Yorktowne Manufacturing and was most recently employed at Skip's Cutting, both formerly of Ephrata, PA.
As a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Ephrata, PA she was a former choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Friendly Circle and Golden Years Clubs of Ephrata.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, H. Laverne "Candy" Kreider, wife of James K. Kreider of Ronks, PA, a niece, and three nephews.

Bonnie L. Keifer
Bonnie L. Keifer, 61, of Ephrata, PA, formerly of Allentown, PA, died on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County.
Born in East Earl, PA, Bonnie was the daughter of the late Herbert I. and Albam (Castaenera) Keifer. She was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Ephrata and was most recently employed at EARS in Ephrata. While a resident of Allentown, she worked for Kraft Foods.
Bonnie is survived by a sister, Grace E. Barnes of Ephrata and two nieces: Lynn A. and Lori E. Barnes, both of Summit Hill, PA.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
R. David Anderson
R. David Anderson, 63, of Ephrata, PA, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at Ephrata Community Hospital. He was the husband of Lucinda L. (Desmarais) Anderson.
Born in Lancaster, PA, David was the son of Mary J. (McGwire) Anderson and the late Robert C. Anderson. He attended Salem Evangelical & Reformed Church in Reamstown, PA.
David was employed by Alcoa of Lancaster until 1997, where he was a member of the Fire Brigade and Hazmat Team. He was also an EMT on the Lancaster West End Ambulance.
He will be lovingly missed by his family.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Brian D. Anderson, husband of Valentino Anderson of Anchorage, AK; a daughter, Heather, wife of Paul W. Marx of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Ethan, Abby, Gayla, and Dasha; and a brother, Michael Anderson.

Claire M. Metcalfe
Claire M. Metcalfe, 86, of Stevens, PA, entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the widow of the late Aiden T. Metcalfe.
Born in Hoboken, NJ, Claire was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Fischer) Klaus. She was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Ephrata, PA.
Claire was also a member of the Cocalico Senior Center of Reinholds, PA, the Ephrata Golden Years Club, and loved dancing and spending time with her family.
Surviving are four sons: Aiden J. Metcalfe (Judy) of W. Milford, NJ, Glenn Metcalfe (Laura) of Linden, NJ, Donald Metcalfe (Kim) of Reinholds, PA, and Dennis Metcalfe (Carolyn) of Lancaster, PA; 2 granddaughters, Ali and Caitlin; and a grandson, Devin.
Claire was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Klaus.
Friends will be received at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16. There will be a Christian Prayer Service during the visitation at 8 p.m. Interment will be private.
