Elsie Berg McDaniel
Elsie Berg McDaniel, 79, of Lancaster, formerly of Nashville, TN, died on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Ephrata Manor. Elsie was the widow of the late William McDaniel and the daughter of the late Joe and Florence (McLean) Diehl.
Elsie lost her hearing at the age of 8 and became proficient at lip reading and sign language. She was formerly employed at Clover Bottom Development Center in Nashville, TN for 30 years, where she taught residents to communicate with sign language.
Surviving is a daughter Gail, wife of Stephen Kangisser of Lancaster; two granddaughters: Stacy and Christy; and brothers: Jack and Robert Diehl of Oregon, IL.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family and are under the direction of Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, Inc., Ephrata, PA.

Anne M. Titus
Anne Murdoch Titus, 81, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Catonsville, MD, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 13, 2009.
Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Grace and Harold Murdoch. Anne graduated in 1950 from Mount Saint Agnes College with a degree in Medical Technology.
She retired from Maryland General Hospital where she worked as a medical technologist. After retiring she then moved to Lancaster, PA.
Anne was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Anne will be greatly missed by her 4 children: Stephen married
to Donna; Michael, married
to Nancy; all of Lancaster, PA; Blaise, of Portland, Maine; and Anne, married
to Pat Perticone, of Baltimore, MD; 6 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Alex Covell, of Owings Mills, MD; Elaine MacLellan, of Fairfield PA; and a brother Harold Murdoch of Timonium, MD. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Lentz.
A mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, 150 Water St., New Holland, PA on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.

Ferril J. (Buddy) Butler
Ferril J. "Buddy" Butler, 67, of Akron, PA, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Linda D. (Weidman) Butler and a son of the late Oscar F. and Elizabeth M. (McCray) Butler.
Buddy was a Supervisor at Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster for 30 years. After his retirement from Armstrong he was employed part-time by the Shadd Detective Agency until 2007. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kerry J. Butler of Louisville, KY; 2 grandchildren; four sisters: Shirley A. Givler of Akron, Bertha J. wife of Harry Kidd of Buchanan, VA, Loretta K. wife of Gary Zimmerman of Ephrata and Cindy, wife of Jeffery Mundy of Troutville, VA; and a brother, Bobby L. Butler of Sheridan, WY. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Lynn Butler and a sister, Sandra S. Pfautz.
Friends will be received from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Susan Sliker officiating. Interment with Military Honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard will be in Mohler Brethren cemetery, Ephrata.

Galen E. (Red) Callihan
Galen E. "Red" Callihan, 88, of Ephrata, died on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Fairmount Homes Retirement Community. He was the widower of the late Beatrice E. (Shirker) Callihan who died December 15, 1989 and was the son of the late David and Ila Callihan.
Red was a retired rural postal carrier who worked for 28 years out of the Ephrata Post Office. He was a member of New Joy Brethren in Christ Church of Ephrata. He was a former member of the Ephrata Lions Club and enjoyed golfing, wood working, and traveling.
Mr. Callihan is survived by a son, Ronald E. Callihan, of Willow Street, PA., and a daughter, Donna L., wife of Kenneth E. Zimmerman, of Ephrata. Also surviving are: 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ivan Callihan of Ephrata and Robert Callihan, husband of Marty (Garrett), also of Ephrata; and two sisters, Alice, wife of Vernon Adams, of Ephrata, and Evelyn Mellinger, of Lancaster, PA.
Friends will be received at the Gravenor Home for Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009, and from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday April 7th, with funeral services following at 10 a.m. Pastor Doug Bender will be officiating and interment will be in Lincoln cemetery, Ephrata-Lincoln, Pa.

Charles E. Miller, Jr.
Charles E. Miller, Jr., 64, of Ephrata, PA, formerly of Uniontown, PA, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at West Reading Hospital after a brief illness. Charles was the husband of Miriam (Souder) Miller.
Charles was born in Uniontown, PA, a son of Lucille (Cole) Miller and the late Charles E. Miller, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of New Life Free Methodist Church in Smock, PA. Charles moved to the Ephrata Area in 1988.
Charles was previously employed by U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh and Rutt's Cabinetry in Goodville, PA. He was currently employed in the Maintenance Department of Wal Mart in Morgantown, PA.
He was an avid football fan, loved the Steelers and enjoyed mini-golf.
In addition to his wife and mother, Charles is survived by three daughters: Carol, wife of Shawn Marks, Lisa, wife of Joe Muha and Hannah Miller; two sons: Steve Miller, husband of Yvonne and Bobby Miller, husband of Kelly; 9 grandchildren: Ryan, Kaleigh, Amber, Shawn Zachary, Elizabeth, Andy, Rachel, Collin and Hailey; a great-granddaughter, Haven; two sisters: Judy Powell and Debbie Mangosh; three brothers: Donald Miller, husband of Helen, Terry Miller, husband of Diane and Mark Miller; two step-daughters: Edith, wife of Tom Kendig and Rebecca, wife of Derrek Mentzer; a step-son: James Beasley and 2 step-grandchildren: Zachary Gene and Carrie Anne.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Stevens.

J. Gordon McQuate
J. Godron McQuate, 91, of Akron, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Marion (Hornberger) McQuate and was a son of the late John and Carrie (Garman) McQuate.
Mr. McQuate was born in Reinholds and was an Ephrata High School Graduate. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was later employed as an Accountant at various Ford dealerships in the area. He retired in 1988 from Bud Hunt Motors.
Mr. McQuate was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata where he was a Deacon, Elder, Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. He was also an active member of the Council for American Indian Ministry and the Dakota Association and made many mission trips around the country.
He served on the Board of Directors of U.C.C. Homes, on the Lancaster Association Outreach Committee and the U.C.C. Board for Homeland Ministries in the American Missionary Association Division. He also was part of the foundation and operation of the Eicher Indian Museum and Shop at Grater Park in Ephrata.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Rosemary J., wife of Alan Stifelman; four sons: Richard G., husband of Frances (Quigley), John D., husband of Donna (Reider), Patrick J. and Christopher D., husband of Elizabeth (Engerran); 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two grandsons: Seth McQuate and Eli Staudt; a brother, Willard McQuate; a sister, Mae McQuate; a half-brother Lester McQuate and a daughter-in-law, Trudy (Hackman) McQuate.
Friends will be received from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Bethany U.C.C., 140 E. Main St., Ephrata, PA. Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mark J. Johnson officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mary J. Hinerdeer
Mary Jane Hinerdeer, 91, of Lititz, PA, died on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Lancashire Hall. Mary was the widow of the late Kenneth B. Hinerdeer, who died in 2003.
Born in Lancaster, Mary was a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Miller) Brubaker. She was a long-time resident of the Leola area and a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church in Neffsville.
Mary was a housewife and was a volunteer Gray Lady and gift shop clerk for over 40 years at the Lancaster General Hospital. She also served as a baseball coach for her children and grandchildren, a school crossing guard in Leola and was a member of the Upper Leacock Fire Company, Lanco Micro Midget Racing Club and Leola War Memorial Auxiliaries.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeanette C. Bennetch of Myerstown; two sons: Gerald K. Hinerdeer, and his wife Kathleen A. (Consylman) of Leola and Barry L. Hinerdeer, and his wife Sharon A. (Wise) of Lititz; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, R. William Brubaker of Millersville.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 and from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA. Bertha M. (Bert) Ford
Bertha M. "Bert" Ford, 78, of Ephrata, died on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Ephrata Community Hospital. She was born in Everett, PA but lived in Ephrata for many years.
Bert was the widow of the late Warren E. Ford, Jr. who died on May 15, 1989, and was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Chalfant) Gipe. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Ephrata and was employed as a social worker by Penn State Cooperative on Nutrition.
Mrs. Ford was a lifetime member and 25 year President of the American Legion Cloister Post #429 American Legion Auxiliary and was elected Eastern Vice President of the State American Legion Auxiliary in 1989. She was also a member of the Order of the Easter Star.
Surviving are her four sons: Randolph E. Ford, husband of Glenna (Frey), Kenneth C. Ford, husband of Sandra (Graham), Gary T. Ford, Sr., husband of Carman A. (Ocasio), and John R. Ford, all of Ephrata; a daughter, Paula Y., wife of Frederick Wilske, III of Ephrata; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Beegle of Everett, PA.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary M. Ford and a grandson, G. Thomas Ford, Jr.

Albert A. Rosati
Albert A. Rosati, 88, of Stevens, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.
He was the husband of Paula A. (Deneve) Rosati and son of the late Thomas and Adeline (Grundine) Rosati.
Albert was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Ephrata, PA and was a retired Controller for Conrail-Amtrak.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was the last survivor of the SS W.C. Latta crew.
Albert enjoyed model railroading with HO scale trains.
In addition to his wife, Paula, Albert is survived by two daughters, Adeline, wife of Ken Blaylock of Shelby, AL and Mary Linda Rosati of Mansfield, OH, one son, Thomas Rosati, husband of Cheryl, of Reamstown, PA, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Paulovic.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25th at Fairmount Homes 333 Wheat Ridge Dr. Ephrata, PA 17522.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25th at Holy Cross cemetery 4075 Derry St. Harrisburg, PA 17111. cemetery is located on Derry Street between South 40th St. and Rt. 322.
Warren J. Nelson
Warren J. Nelson, 86, of Ephrata, PA, formerly of Bay Shore, Long Island, NY, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Maple Farm in Akron, PA.
A native New Yorker, Warren began his career as a Private First Class in the Army during WW II. He was recently indoctrinated in to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA. Upon completion of his service duties, he began a banking career that spanned over 35 years, holding various positions from manager to vice president, retiring as Regional Vice President for Irving Trust.
He had numerous community ties on Long Island, NY as member of the Lions Club, various United Funds, and Director of the Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Steering Committee of the Suffolk County Council Boy Scouts of America. He continued his community ties as member and usher for the Ephrata Church of the Nazarene as well as being an active supporter of the Humane Society, indicative of his love for his own cats, pets he adored.
Warren's favorite pastime was designing and structuring furniture. He was a great carpenter. He also enjoyed helping people and socializing. One of his favorite places to visit was Martin's Country Market which he did each morning. He was a blessed man who brought love and laughter to all his family, extended family (The Fagan Family, whom he treasured), and his friends.
Warren is survived by two daughters: Patricia Nelson of Orlando, FL and Debbie, wife of Joseph Ostraco of Safety Harbor, FL; one son, Gary T. Nelson, husband of Mary, of Largo Fl; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alberta Liddle of Naples, FL.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores C. (VanSise) Nelson, son, Glen Nelson, and longtime loving friend, Barbara Fagan. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Nelson and one sister, Joan Beckers.
Friends will be received at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St. Ephrata, PA 17522 on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, March 20 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Gravenor's with the Rev. Kenneth Higginbotham officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

M. Joyce James
M. Joyce James, 72, of Ephrata, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.
She was born in Reinholds, PA, daughter of the late Amos M. and Alda G. (Donmoyer) Nolt.
Joyce was an animal lover. During high school, she raised a Champion Baby Beef for the Ephrata Farm Show.
She enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, landscaping, and was known for creating a delightful light display every Christmas.
Joyce was the District Manager at Valley View Mobile Home Park for over 20 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Plowman of Lancaster, PA, three sons: Curtis James of Carlisle, PA, Bryan James, husband of Holly, of Spring Grove, PA, and John James of Ephrata, PA, one granddaughter, four grandsons, one sister, Betty J. Gross of Brickerville, PA, and two brothers, Bill Nolt of Walton, CA and James Nolt of Lancaster, PA.
