Betty J. Stauffer, Ephrata nurse, ambulance volunteer
Betty J. Stauffer, 66, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Hospice & Community Care.
A graduate of McCaskey High School, Betty worked as a nurse at United Zion Retirement Community. She was a volunteer with the Warwick Ambulance and a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Ephrata.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Nora Shenberger Hougendobler and wife of the late Larry T. Stauffer.
She is survived by a daughter: Norene, wife of Lance Hunnefield, Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister: Carole Terry, Columbia and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, 47 Cindia Lane, Ephrata, on Sept. 28th at 11 a.m.

Lester Sauder, 91, minister, Clay Book Store founder
Lester R. Sauder, 91, of Clay, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at his home of natural causes.
Born in West Earl Township, he was the son of the late John S. and Lizzie (Redcay) Sauder and was the husband of Anna (Weaver) Sauder, with whom he shared nearly 71 years of marriage.
He was a member of the Springville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, where he served as minister for over 50 years. A farmer, he was later the founder of Clay Book Store.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: John W., husband of Ida (Shirk) Sauder of Waterloo, N.Y.; Lloyd W., husband of Barbara (Hoover) Sauder of Mt. Pleasant Mills; Paul W., husband of Anna Mary (Weaver) Sauder of Denver; five daughters: Bernice, wife of Wayne Rissler of East Earl; Louella W., wife of Mark Good of Lititz; Mary W. Sauder at home; Anna W., wife of J. Ervin Showalter of Loyal, Wis., Verna W., wife of Philip Rissler of Ephrata; 48 grandchildren; 117 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren and 11 step great-great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
Emma Nolt, 94, Akron Groffdale Menn. member
Emma M. (Newswanger) Nolt, 94, of Akron, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at her home.
She was born in Brutus, Mich. to the late Elias and Anna (Martin) Newswanger and was the wife of the late Christian Z. Nolt, whom passed away in 1997.
Emma was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference).
Emma is survived by a son: Leroy N., husband of Linda (Showalter) Nolt of Dayton, Va.; five daughters: Ella N. Nolt of Akron; Anna N. Nolt of Ephrata; Mary N. Nolt of Lititz; Alta Mason of Hagerstown, Md.; Annetta, wife of Warren Martin of New Holland; a son-in-law: Adam Reiff of Muir, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her husband and parents, Emma was preceded in death by two daughters: Verna Reiff and Edna N. Nolt and a grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sept. 24 at the Groffdale Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference), Leola, with Bishop Ammon Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Mary Jane Millisock, 51, former Ephrata resident
Mary Jane Millisock, 51, of Lancaster, formerly of Ephrata, died Sept. 19, 2013.
She was born in Lancaster, the daughter of Harry Millisock, Jr. and the late Viola M. (Beachy) Millisock. Surviving are five siblings: Esther Lawrence, Lois Beachy, Peggy, John and Harry Millisock and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by a brother: Nelson Lee Millisock.
Funeral services will be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home "Sullivan Home, " 121 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 (on-site parking with attendants) on Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. and a viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Mellingers Mennonite cemetery.

William Hughes, owned Penquinn, WWII veteran
William M. Hughes, 85, of Morgantown, died on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at his home, while under the loving care of hospice and his family.
He was born in Honey Brook on Feb. 1, 1927. William was the son of the late M. William and Ellen (March) Hughes. He was the husband of the late Muriel D. (Messner) Hughes, who died on June 18 of this year.
William was the former owner of the Penquinn in Mt. Airy. He was a Navy vet in WWII and a member of the American Legion, VFW and Am. Vets. William enjoyed antiques, fishing, yard work and gardening.
He is survived by three daughters: Ivy Bernard of Honey Brook; Eve Sagner of Narvon and Ava Hilton of Reading. There are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Judy A. Burkholder, active in church, Martin’s worker
Judy Ann Burkholder, 57, of Denver, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of Jack and Peggy (Clouser) Dewald of Denver, and was the wife of Terry Burkholder, to whom she was married
37 years.
Judy was a member of the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served as an assistant secretary, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, day care worker, and was involved in numerous church committees. Judy was a 1974 graduate of Cocalico High School and worked as a cashier/office worker for Martin’s County Market. She enjoyed going to the beach, camping, scrap booking, kayaking, and spending time with her grandchildren. The things that made her happy also included DQ Blizzards, soft pretzels and Fink’s fries.
In addition to her parents and husband, Judy is survived by a son: Jay Burkholder and girlfriend Rhonda of Denver; a daughter: Jenni, wife of Shane Rodgers of Denver; sisters: Jamie, wife of Bruce Carpenter of Reamstown; Joyce, wife of Stan Care of Shillington and Jill, wife of Scott Alleman of Lititz; seven grandchildren: T.J., Ethan, C.J., Dustin, Krystal, Madison and Jaxson; mother-in-law: Mary Burkholder of Ephrata; sister-in-law: Chris, wife of Michael Allen of Mohnton and brothers-in-law: Michael, husband of Jill Burkholder of Adamstown and Greg Burkholder of Denver.
Walter Zimmerman, 79, Army; truck, bus driver
Walter M. Zimmerman, 79, of Ephrata, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Lincoln Christian Home.
He was born in Ephrata on April 6, 1934, to the late Aaron and Anna (Martin) Zimmerman and was the husband of Esther M. (Troxel) Zimmerman with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Walter was a member of the Hammer Creek Mennonite Church. He served in the United States Army for three years, stationed in Germany. He returned home and married
Esther M. Troxel in 1955. Walter sold ice cream for the former Cloister Dairies for a number of years before returning to farming. He also worked for Plain & Fancy Egg Ranch in Elizabethtown before buying his own truck and started hauling freight. He retired after driving bus for Conestoga Tours.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Walter Jr., husband of Marlene (Kreider) Zimmerman of Bradford; Dennis, husband of Julie (Snyder) Zimmerman of Beaver Springs; Carl, husband of Martha (Hoover) Zimmerman of Lititz; Barry Zimmerman of Manheim; a daughter, Cindy, wife of Brian Holden of Glassboro, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother: Ivan and four sisters: Irene, Edith, Anna and Marie.
Garry Lyn Wiggins, 57, worked with ODC
Garry Lyn Wiggins, 57, of Ephrata, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at home.
Garry had worked with ODC, Lancaster.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Geraldine E. (Dommell) Wiggins and the late John W. Wiggins and was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Lancaster.
Surviving is one sister: Brenda L. (Bryan) Kling; a niece; nephew and a great-niece.
Graveside services were held in the Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, Nov. 22.
Mary Wagner, 98, Watt & Shand worker, homemaker
Mary C. Wagner, 98, of Ephrata, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Katzner) Wetteborn. She was married
to the late Ernest P. Wagner who passed away in 1964.
She worked at the former Watt & Shand for many years and later in life was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening.
Mary was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lancaster.
She is survived by her son: Richard E. Wagner, of Lancaster; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Ernestine W. Smith and numerous brothers and sisters.
A graveside service was held Nov. 23 at St. Anthony Catholic cemetery, Lancaster.

Ida Steely, 95, Ephrata Red Cross volunteer, retiree of Denver Shoe
Ida Steely, 95, of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Hamilton Arms Center, Lancaster.
She was born in Lancaster County to the late Edward and Ida (Petticoffer) Kopp and was the wife of the late Vernon Steely who passed away in 1987.
Ida was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church, Ephrata. She volunteered for Red Cross in the Ephrata area and was a member of the Lititz Senior Center. During her working years, she worked for Wilbur Chocolate, Brunnerville Grocery Store and then retired from Denver Shoe Store.
She is survived by two sons: Clifford K., husband of Barbara (Fitzgerald) Steely of Ephrata; Vernon Jr., husband of Darlene (Weachter) Steely of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson; six brothers and four sisters.
A funeral was held Nov. 25, 2013 at the Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata, with Pastor Frank Rice officiating. Interment took place in the Memory Gardens Memorial cemetery.

Jay Robert Martin, 79, owned trucking business
Jay Robert Martin, 79, of Farmington, Conn., died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, after a two-year sickness of end-stage renal disease.
He was born in Ephrata to the late Aaron S. and Edna (Shenk) Martin.
Bob graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School in 1952. He served his alternate service at the Connecticut Valley Hospital, where he met his wife, Vera P., on a blind date. In June they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Bob started a trucking business, Bow Way Express, which is now being run by his daughter, Darlyne.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Kyle, husband of Oksana Martin of Sun Vale, Calif.; Jay, husband of Kathy Martin of North Granby, Conn.; a daughter: Darlyne Jackson, wife of the late Bill Jackson of North Granby, Conn.; seven grandchildren; three siblings: Kenneth E., husband of Mary Schnupp Martin of Brewton, Ala.; Rhoda, wife of the late Clarence L. Weaver of Lititz and Edith, wife of the late John R. Schnupp of Ephrata.
A viewing will be held Nov. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Carmon Funeral Home, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon, Conn. The funeral service will be held Nov. 30, at the St. Cyryl Methodius Church, Terryville, Conn.
F. Eleanor Martin, 84, W.W. Moyer seamstress
F. Eleanor Martin, 84, of Lititz, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Landis Homes.
She was born in Ephrata to the late Harvey L. and Sarah (Zinn) Fry and was the wife of Amos L. Martin.
Eleanor was a member of the Hinkletown Mennonite Church. During her working years she worked as a seamstress for the W.W. Moyer Company. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and crocheting.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son: Earl E., husband of Barbara J. Weaver of Penryn; a daughter: Sheryl, wife of Mel L. Houck of Narvon; two stepsons: Barry Martin of Akron; Robert Martin of Ephrata; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl N. Weaver; five siblings: Helen Kofroth, Mary Good, John Fry, Betty Martin and Lorraine Hornberger.
Her funeral service was held Nov. 26 at the Hinkletown Mennonite Church, Ephrata, with Rev. Glenn Sauder officiating. Interment took place in the Hinkletown Mennonite cemetery.
