Pauline Bender Stump entered into eternal rest on July 25, 2013 at Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron.
She was born at home in the community of Oregon, PA. Born in 1926, she was one of 11 children of William and Maggie Bender. Her husband, John H. Stump, Talmage, deceased in 1983.
Pauline enjoyed her active volunteerism with auxiliary to the West Earl Fire Association and over 20 years as a cook for the Lancaster Fireman’s Training Association in West Lampeter. Pauline has been a lifetime member of Ebenezer Evangelical Church in Brownstown.
Pauline and John’s favorite outdoor activity was boating on the Chesapeake Bay for over 25 years with their many boater friends from Pennsylvania and Maryland. Weekends were spent enjoying the sun and filled with fishing, swimming, water skiing, and lots of shrimp and clam bakes at the dock in Perryville and Havre de Grace, Md.
She is survived by a daughter: Vicky Lane Jenkins, Manheim and two step-daughters: Sandra Agesen, Texas and Linda Montgomery and husband Robert, Delaware; grandchildren: Brian Underhill and wife Melissa, Lititz; Jill Crofoot and husband Luke of Delaware; Michael Montgomery, Md.; Jeffrey Agesen, Texas and Christopher Agesen, Washington; and great-grandchildren: Brianna and Sean Underhill; Taylor Crofoot; Zachary, Lucas and Susan Agesen; and Allen, Christopher and Heather Agesen. Also surviving are two sisters: Mereda Buckwalter, Lancaster, and Arlene Schaal, Leola.
Mildred E. Meier, Stevens, was Penn Dairies worker
Mildred Ellen Meier, 87, of Stevens, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.
She was born in Marticville to the late Harry and Rena (Cramer) Yost and was the wife of Robert A. Meier Sr., with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.
Mildred was a member of the Church of the Apostles UCC, Lancaster, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. In her early years, she worked for Penn Dairies. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son: Robert Jr., husband of Deborah Meier of Stevens; a daughter: Maurina Roether of Stevens; her grandchildren: Ronald Roether; Denise, wife of John Durling; Robert III, husband of Lara Meier; Michaela, wife of Matthew Helfer; great grandchildren: Samuel, Alyssa, Elliana, Erich and Carson; a brother: John, husband of Lois Yost of Strasburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Gladys, Thelma, Clarence, George, Margaret and Ralph.
A viewing was held July 30 at the Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata, followed by her funeral services with Rev. Kathryn Kuhn officiating. Interment will take place in the Riverview Memorial Park.
Elizabeth, 48, and Wesley Martin, 50, accident victims
Elizabeth (Bridge) Martin, 48, and M. Wesley Martin, 50, of Lancaster, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 22, 2013 in Corolla, The Outer Banks, N.C.
Liz was born in West Chester. She was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Elizabeth A. (Duggan) Bridge. She attended Our Mother of Perpetual Help grade school and was a 1982 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. She earned her associate degree in nursing from the Lancaster General School of Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from York College. Liz received her master’s degree from Walden University in 2011. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Lancaster General Hospital for 26 years in several departments: intravenous department, intensive care unit, trauma neuro unit, and the interventional radiology department. She most recently was a nurse educator in three critical care departments at Hershey Medical Center.
Liz was previously board president of the Resurrection Catholic School where her children attended. She was a "cheerleader" in the stands when she and Wes attended all of their children’s sports. She was an advocate for her friends and family. Liz was very gifted with the ability to be kind, empathetic, patient, compassionate and a true goal achiever. She was organized in everything that she did. Liz was always an advocate for her patients. She cared deeply for them as if she was taking care of a family member. Liz will be greatly missed by many.
Teresita C. Malmer, 28, tax preparer, aspiring singer
Teresita (Te, Tere) C. Malmer, 28, of Ephrata passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at her sister’s home in Reading with her loving family was at her bedside.
Teresita fought a long and courageous battle with kidney disease and other related health issues.
Teresita was born Aug. 9, 1984, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to Miguel and Carmen Illas. She was the adopted daughter of Mark and Kim Malmer of Ephrata Township.
Tere spent her early childhood years in Reading. She moved to Ephrata in 1996 and attended the Ephrata Area Schools. She enjoyed participating in soccer, softball and volleyball. After completing her high school degree, she moved back to the Reading area, and then returned to Ephrata Township one year ago.
Te was last employed as a tax preparer for Jackson Hewitt in Reading. However, her true passion in life was singing, and she was following her dream of pursuing a career as a professional singer.
One of her favorite song passages gave her comfort in her difficult days: "I sing because I’m happy/I sing because I’m free/His eye is on the sparrow/and I know he watches me."
Elizabeth M. Lutz, 91, homemaker, Moyer worker
Elizabeth M. "Betty" Lutz, 91, of Denver, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 after a lengthy illness at Fairmount Homes in Ephrata.
Born in Oregon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late J. Reno and Anna N. (Metzler) Weaver. She would have been married
69 years on Aug. 9 to Howard Lutz.
Betty was a homemaker most of her life but earlier she worked for the former Walter W. Moyer Company in Ephrata. She also provided child care for many years for many neighbors and friends.
She was a member of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church. She often sang in the choir at Salem Lutheran Church and she enjoyed playing the organ, quilting, along with other needle work, word puzzles, photography, growing flowers, and reading.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three children: Dale E., married
to Sharon (Wade) Lutz of Harmonyville; Dean L. Lutz of Ephrata and Denise K., married
to Barry Buchter at home; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Arlene Houck of Gordonville and Beatrice Yoder of Intercourse; and three brothers: David M. Weaver of Lititz, Paul M. Weaver of Paradise, and Jake M. Weaver of Atglen.
Ralph E. Grubb, 85, Buch Organ worker, machinist
Ralph E. Grubb, 85, of Ephrata, went home to be with his maker Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital after a short illness.
He was the husband of Mary Ann (Neidermyer) Grubb and son of the late Jacob R. and Mildred G. (Hawk) Grubb.
Born in New Holland, Ralph was a lifelong resident of Lancaster County. He worked at Ephrata Tool and Die as a machinist for 20 years and was most recently employed by the Buch Church Organ Co. of Ephrata.
Ralph enjoyed baseball, especially the Phillies, and fishing.
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Ralph is survived by three daughters: Linda (Grubb) Mutzel of Lititz; Misty (Grubb) Peters, wife of Richard Peters of Lititz and Suzanne (Grubb) Cardoza, wife of Henry Cardoza of California; two sons: Thomas Martin, husband of Carol, of Lancaster and Craig Grubb of Indiana.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister: Fern (Grubb) Edmonds, wife of Richard Edmonds of Mt. Joy.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hawk.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Lincoln cemetery, Apple St., Ephrata (Lincoln), at 3 p.m. Aug. 1, 2013. The Reverend Jeffrey H. Goodman will be officiating.

B. Virginia Gosling, 87, of Ephrata, entered into rest Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Ephrata Manor.
She was born in Ephrata to the late Leroy and Caroline Mohler.
Ginny was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed playing cards with her friends and loved to swim and sit in the sun. She worked as in inspector at Hamilton Technology and as a personal shopper at the former Donecker’s of Ephrata.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara "Babs, " wife of Robert J. Lilley of Ephrata; Deb Schaufert of Lancaster; Suzette, wife of Michael Owens of Florida; Virginia "Ginger, " wife of Steve Miles of Stevens; her sons: Barry, husband of MaryAnn (Brubaker) Gosling of Ariz.; Robert Gosling of Ephrata; Tom, husband of Lisa (Saylor) Gosling of Denver; 15 grandchildren: Regina (Lilley) Jarvis; Brent and Todd Strickler; Dustin Chambers; Brendon and Dana Schaufert; Rachael (Owens) McGuinness; Carlyn Owens; Ian, Amanda, Deanna, Zachary and Brock Gosling; Morgan Givler and Joshua Miles; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sisters: Viola Althouse of Ephrata; Evelyn Eberly of Texas, Dorie, wife of Nicholas Verna of Lebanon and Nancy Heisey of Denver.
Lucille H. Fitzkee, 83, avid bridge player, homemaker
Lucille Hoffman Fitzkee, 83, of Littleton, Colo. passed away Thursday, July 18 in Denver, Colo.
Lucille was the wife of Leon Fitzkee and was born in Ephrata on Jan. 15, 1930. She was a graduate of Ephrata High School and of the Pennsylvania State University. She was the daughter of the late Harry Hoffman, Sr, and Mabel Hoffman of Ephrata. She and her husband, ‘Fitz, ’ moved to Colorado soon after they married
and lived there for the rest of her life.
Lucille enjoyed playing bridge and was an accomplished duplicate bridge player. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and often worked with her husband in their kitchen to prepare meals for friends. Lou, as she was called, was a cat lover and either had cats of her own or fed and took care of neighborhood cats that found their way to her backyard.
She is survived by her husband: Leon, of Denver, Colo. and her brother: Dr. Harry Hoffman of Lititz. She is also survived by her nephew, Robert Crone of Lakeport, Calif.; and by her nieces: Jessica Hoffman Long, Rebecca Hoffman Hehnly and Melissa Hoffman, all of Lancaster, and several grand nieces and nephews.
George D. Enright, 62, Science Press retiree
George D. Enright, 62, of Ephrata, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Philadelphia and was the husband of the late Suzanne Enright who passed away in 2003.
Prior to his retirement, George worked for Science Press for over 20 years. He enjoyed golf, bowling, music, poker and ponies.
George is survived by two sons: Noel Enright of Willow Street and Jason Enright of Ephrata; a grandson: Phillip Enright of Willow Street and a sister: Maureen Enright.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother: John Enright.
A visitation will be held Aug. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Benjamin Unruh, 92, Bollman Hat Co. retiree
Benjamin Unruh, 92, of Ephrata, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Ephrata Manor.
Born Sept. 17, 1921, in Yellow Pine, Ala., he was a son of the late Henry and Anna (Ratzlaf) Unruh. His wife June A. (Gerhart) Unruh died Dec. 9, 2010.
He was a graduate of East Cocalico High School and retired from Bollman Hat Company, Adamstown. Ben was a devoted and supportive member of Berean Bible Church, and past president of Steinmetz cemetery Association. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports.
Surviving are a daughter: Margie Henry, Sterling, Va.; granddaughter: Amanda Henry, Reston, Va.; brothers: John (Carolyn) Unruh, Lititz and Robert (Shirley) Unruh, New Holland. He was predeceased by siblings: Viola Henry, Luella Wingenroth, Verda Byler, Irene Fry Howard and Howard and Richard Unruh. The family wishes to thank the Ephrata Manor staff for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral services were held Sept. 21 at Berean Bible Church, Ephrata, with his pastor, The Reverend Kelly Sensenig, officiating. Burial was in Steinmetz cemetery, Denver.

James Wolfe, active in church, PennDOT worker
James D. Wolfe, 71, of Denver, was stricken ill while on vacation in Wildwood Crest, N.J., and died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
Harriet A. (Lowenthal), his wife of 31 years, survives.
Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Oscar and Adeline (Genevese) Wolfe.
He was an equipment operator for PennDOT for 32 years. A member of Swamp Christian Fellowship in Reinholds, he served as an assistant Sunday School teacher for 4-to 7-year-olds, a willing worker, and a member of the "bulletin crew." His greatest joy was spending time with his family; he was actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Barry Wolfe, Harrisburg, and two daughters: Tammy, married
to Larry R. Martin, Denver, and Penny, married
to Patrick McHugh, Akron, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
His funeral was held Sept. 25 at Swamp Christian Fellowship, Reinholds, with Pastor M. Craig Snow officiating. Interment will be in Swamp cemetery.

Lloyd Varner, 91, WWII vet, Grace Mines worker
Lloyd J. Varner, 91, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster where he resided.
He was the husband of Anna Mary Varner and son of the late John and Lillian M. Varner. Lloyd was a member of Hopeland United Methodist Church and was a World War II Veteran. He was formerly employed by Grace Mines in Morgantown and enjoyed gardening and small game hunting.
In addition to his wife Anna, Lloyd is survived by a son: James Varner, husband of Rene (Clement) Varner of Peoria, Ariz.; two daughters: Arlene, wife of Dick Walton of Lancaster and Eileen Walton of Lancaster.
Friends will be received at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend David Ryan officiating. Place of interment will be Hopeland U.M. cemetery.
