Joyce (Rhen) Grosh, watch co. employee, prof. organist
Joyce (Rhen) Grosh, 83, a resident of Moravian Manor and formerly of Ephrata, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 from pulmonary fibrosis as a result of interstitial pneumonia which she contracted on vacation in 2001.
Born in Lititz to the late Richard H. and Minerva "Laura" (Smith) Rhen, Joyce is survived by her loving husband, William Kilgore Grosh, M.D., to whom she was married
almost 61 years.
A 1947 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Joyce attended Lancaster Business College and was employed in the personnel department of the Hamilton Watch Company. After Bill and Joyce were married
at the First Reformed Church of Lancaster and at the beginning of Bill’s third year in medical school, Joyce and Bill lived in Philadelphia where Joyce was responsible for interviewing and hiring women for the Home Insurance Company.
Joyce’s lifelong love of music began in third grade when she studied piano and eventually the clarinet in high school and later played the electronic organ professionally. In her later years, Joyce shared her talent playing the organ at Lancashire Hall for 12 years. Having been taught the classics, Joyce learned to play popular music from Bob Stetler and Charles Buckwalter (a popular Lancaster band leader). Joyce and Bill also enjoyed their travels, visiting 46 different states and 41 countries.
Jean Wojciechowski, 86, Renninger’s antique dealer
Jean Wojciechowski, 86, of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Denver Health & Rehab.
Formerly of Stratford, N.J., Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Wojciechowski, and her parents George Conte and Dorothy Kreamer.
Jean is survived by her brother: George, Somerdale, N.J., son: Michael, husband of Mary Beth Boyer, Ephrata; and her daughter: Marion, wife of Jack Eagan, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Amy Ward, husband of Patrick Ward; Kyle Wojciechowski; Katie Eagan; and Kristen Eagan; and two great-grandchildren: Owen and Luke Ward.
Upon moving to Lancaster County in 1973, Jean joined Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church and had been an active member of the Benevolent Society. She was a longtime and beloved antique dealer at Renninger’s Market in Adamstown. Jean enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her two great-grand children.
Jean will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill cemetery June 28 following a memorial service at OMPH Church in Ephrata at 11 a.m.

Lloyd J. Snyder, 91, born here, was farmer, plasterer
Lloyd J. Snyder, 91, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Ephrata, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Heartland Health Care in Greenville, S.C.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Earl and Hettie (Myers) Snyder. His wife, F. Elizabeth (Givler) Snyder, died in 2004.
Lloyd was a farmer and a plasterer most of his life. He was a member of St. John’s Center United Church of Christ in East Earl and he enjoyed card parties.
Surviving is a daughter: Sandra, married
to Kenneth George of Greenville, S.C.; a son: Harold, married
to Cyndi (Shue) Snyder of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister: Arlene Wise of Ephrata.
Preceding him in death is a son: Larry Snyder in 2001; and a brother: Lester Snyder.
Funeral services will be held June 26 at 2 p.m. at the St. John’s United Church of Christ, 432 Reading Road, East Earl, PA 17519 with the Reverend Bradley Haws officiating. Interment will be in the Bergstrasse Lutheran cemetery. Viewing will be held Wednesday at St. John’s Center U.C.C. from 1 to 2 p.m.
Frank B. Ruoss, 60, veteran of Vietnam, maint. foreman
Frank B. Ruoss, 60, of Lititz, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Ephrata, he was a son of the late Franklin and Dorothy (Bitzer) Ruoss. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Sharon Ruoss of Lititz.
Frank was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a trainer for the Canine Police. He was employed as a maintenance foreman for SUPERVALU, Inc., Denver. Frank enjoyed playing pool, riding motorcycle, and spending time outdoors.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by two daughters: Kori Steele-Kohr, wife of Andy of York; and Tahra Ruoss of Schoeneck. Also surviving is his beloved granddaughter: Charlotte Kohr and his extended pool team family.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at the Susquehanna State Park at a later date.
Amber Lynn (Royal) Reynolds, devoted aunt, enjoyed baseball
Amber Lynn (Royal) Reynolds, 28, of Lititz, went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, June 18, 2013 due to complications of Lupus.
She was born in Ephrata to Daryl and Wendy (Haldeman) Royal of Lititz.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her brother: DJ Royal, II of Manheim, husband of Kendra (Longenecker) Royal and grandmother: Dorothy Royal of Greencastle.
Amber enjoyed baseball, reading, cooking and taking road trips, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her nephew and niece, Parker and Paityn Royal.
A viewing was held June 21 at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home followed by funeral services with Pastor Willis Swope officiating. Interment took place in the Mellingers Union cemetery.

Linda J. Price, salon owner, Scotland School parent
Linda J. "Bupps" Sheaffer Price, 63, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 23, 2013 at her home.
Born June 21, 1950 in Ephrata, she was a daughter of the late Earl Sheaffer and Edna Hilton Miller. Bupps was raised at her beloved Scotland School for Veteran’s Children, graduating in 1969. While attending school she obtained her cosmetology license and went on to own and operate a salon in Ephrata following graduation. She last worked as a House Parent at Scotland School. Bupps enjoyed and loved her family and had a special love for her brothers and sisters from Scotland School. She also enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her husband: Rickey L. Price, whom she married
Dec. 9, 1995; two daughters: Lisa Getz Bender and husband Brian of Akron; and Kara Getz and companion Michael Cover of Shippensburg; two granddaughters: Amy Getz of Chambersburg and Briana Bender of Akron; and four siblings: Betty Loose of Lititz; Sally Sheaffer of York; John Sheaffer and wife Ginny of Pittsburgh; and Daniel Beck and companion Carolyn Horvath of Lancaster; two nieces: Becky and Barbie; two great-nephews: Shawn and Steve; and one great-niece: Sidney. She is also survived by a special friend, Ginny Beck of Leola. She was preceded in death by her "mom and dad:" Douglas and Mildred Sheaffer Beck; and a sister: Patricia Miller Loar.
Warren R. Ochs, 92, Kalas Mfg., Martzall employee
Warren R. Ochs, 92, formerly of Denver, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, at Ephrata Manor.
He was born in Denver to the late Robert and Sallie (Reinholds) Ochs and was the husband of the late Sara (Hornberger) Ochs, who died Dec. 19, 2005.
He was a member of St. John’s UCC, Denver. Warren worked at Kalas Manufacturing, Denver, for many years and Martzall Construction in earlier years.
Warren is survived by his sisters: Edith R., wife of Vernon S. Showalter of Denver and Eleanor R. Brossman of West Lawn; step-daughters: Harriet Cook of Arizona and Deborah Toole of New Providence.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie (Brendel) Ochs, who died Jan. 16, 1990 and a brother Gilbert R. Ochs, who died Jan. 2, 2013.
A viewing was held June 20 at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver, followed by funeral services with Rev. David Brumbaugh officiating. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Kenneth E. Mohler, 93, vet, Western Auto employee
Kenneth E. Mohler, 93, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz.
He was born in Ephrata to the late Paul and Emma (Markey) Mohler and was the husband of the late Esther S. Mohler who passed away in 2005.
Kenneth was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Nazarene, where he was active in SAMS senior citizens group and the Glorybound Sunday School class. During his working years, he worked at the Western Auto Store in Myerstown for over 30 years. Later he worked part time at the Manheim Auto Auction. Kenneth served in the US Air Force during WWII.
A viewing was held June 24 at the United Zion Retirement Community Chapel, Lititz, followed by his funeral service with Rev. Tom Freysz officiating. Interment took place in the Mohler’s Brethren cemetery.

Gary L. Miller, 61, Weaver Ind. tool maker, hunter
Gary L. Miller, 61, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.
He was born in Lancaster County to the late Elmer and Gerry Miller and was the husband of Susan (Grossman) Miller.
Gary was a tool maker for Weaver Industries of Denver prior to his retirement. He loved visiting West Virginia and hunting. He was loved and always will be loved.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three brothers: Wayne Miller of South Carolina, Steve Miller of New Jersey and Jeff Miller of West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Adam and Keith Miller.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Doris A. Hoffman, owned grooming business, traveler
Doris A. Hoffman, 84, of Ephrata passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating from Riverside High School in 1947, she was the daughter of the late Leonard G. and Anna B. Merckel. Doris was the loving wife of Franklin J. Hoffman for 64 years. Their wonderful life together included time on the island of Saipan following World War II and Duluth, Minnesota.
Doris was a homemaker who groomed poodles out of her home-based shop for 25 years. She loved her family, ball room dancing, traveling the world, and her many pets over the years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three children: David F. Hoffman, husband of Helene E. Hoffman of Elizabethtown; Michael L. Hoffman, husband of Cynthia Hoffman of Akron; and Barbara A. Hoffmann, wife of Eric J. Hoffmann of Ephrata; three grandchildren: Lori M. Hunter, Barbara A. Murphy and Jason M. Long; and three great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by her only sister Carol Tallar of Wisconsin and grandsons Steven L. Long and Patrick M. Hoffman.
Carol Carvell, 59, Bax Plus employee, HACC graduate

Carol Carvell, 59, of Lititz, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.
She was born in Lancaster to the late Abram Alleman and Betty (Gertler) Alleman of Holtwood. She was the devoted wife of Curtis Carvell with whom she shared 24 years of marriage. He will carry her in his heart always. She will also be deeply missed by her three daughters: Carrie, wife of Keith Martinez of Hampstead, Md.; Tara Lee, wife of Kyle Sorensen of Lancaster; Tara Rae, wife of Teddy Turner; seven grandchildren; her mother: Betty (Gertler) Alleman; a brother: Jeff Alleman of Holtwood; and two sisters: Cheryl Alleman of Peach Bottom and Merlean Brown of Holtwood.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul "Butch" Alleman.
Carol graduated from McCaskey High School in 1971. She last worked for Bax Plus. Carol, being a very caring and giving person, decided to pursue a career helping people. She attended college and earned an Associate Degree in Psychology at the Harrisburg Area Community College. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to Myrtle Beach on family vacations, shopping, reading, gardening and going to yard sales.
David D. Weaver, 70, mail carrier, Liederkranz member
David D. Weaver, 70, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.
He was born in Ephrata to the late Thomas and Pearl (Staller) Weaver and was the husband of Otti (Vaitl) McDermott-Weaver.
David worked as a mail carrier in Newmanstown for 15 years before he retired in 2011. He was a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz Club in Manheim. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters- in- law: Marian Weaver of Lititz and Maria Weaver of Ephrata and a niece: Susan Koch of Wyomissing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Fred and William Weaver.
A visitation will be held Aug. 3 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. with Rev. John C. Miller and Anthony Rice officiating. Interment will take place in the Bergstrasse Lutheran cemetery.
