Esther M. Lausch, 95, was 25-year Watt & Shand clerk

Esther M. Lausch, 95, formerly of Denver, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Fairmount Homes Retirement Community.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth Liebfried Kiehl. Esther’s first husband Richard C. Roland died in 1951 and her second husband Donald M. Lausch died in 2003.

She worked as a clerk for Watt & Shand for 25 years. Esther enjoyed knitting, counted cross stitch and word search puzzles. She loved angels and owls, which she included in her crafts.

Esther is survived by her son: Richard C., husband of Wanda G. Roland; granddaughter: Wendy L., wife of Jeffery S. Hackman; and her great-grandchildren: Amber, Daulton and Marlena Dietrich, all of Denver. She was preceded in death by siblings: Anna Holloway Miller, Mary Jane Barclay and Charles, George and Richard Kiehl.

Services will be private with interment in Greenwood cemetery.

Jean E. Kopp, Denver, was waitress, Wal-Mart worker

Jean E. (DeFrees) Kopp, of Denver, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Ephrata Community Hospital.

She was born in Shillington to the late Albert W.L. and Elizabeth A. (Shupp) DeFrees.

Jean attended Vinemont Lutheran Church in Reinholds. She had worked at Berkshire Knitting Mill and also worked as a waitress at the former Schraffts, which became the Colonial Motor Lodge in Denver, Stoudt’s Black Angus Restaurant of Adamstown, the former Foodergong of Ephrata and the Holiday Inn of Denver. She last worked at Wal-Mart of Ephrata, prior to her retirement. Jean enjoyed crocheting, baking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by sons: Daniel L., husband of Carolyn (Martin) Kopp of Denver; and Robert E. Kopp of Denver; daughters: Debra J., wife of Kerry Martin of Lititz; and Cheryl A., wife of Kenneth Zimmerman of Ephrata; a brother: Robert, husband of Mary DeFrees of Blainsport; grandchildren: Christopher Daniel Martin; Michelle, wife of Robert Wegman; Jenna Martin and Bryan Martin.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by sisters: Ruth Dillon and Anna Pawling.

A memorial service was held April 26 at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, Denver. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Dorothy M. Jakows, 84, Ephrata, active in church

Dorothy M. Jakows, 84, of Ephrata, formerly of Lititz and Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at home.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Carolina (Wojnarowski) Lyszkzasz and the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Jakows, who passed away in 2003.

Dorothy was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church, where she was involved in the Light of Christ prayer group and the Legion of Mary.

Dorothy enjoyed music and seeing live shows, most of all polka music. Dorothy liked sewing, cooking and going on Catholic retreats. She especially enjoyed the Jersey Shore, looking out to the ocean during the tranquil time of twilight.

She is survived by a daughter: Sandra Partyka of Ephrata; and a son: Mark Jakows, husband of Nancy of North Wales. She was the last surviving of nine children.

Mass of Christian burial was held April 26 at Mother of Divine Providence in King of Prussia. Interment was in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.

Mary Helen Goodall, 75, former registered nurse

Mary Helen (McInnis) Goodall, 75, formerly of Denver, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at Garden Spot Village, New Holland.

She was born in Bangor, Maine to the late Helen (McDonough) McInnis and was the wife of the late Oakley C. Goodall, who died in 2006.

Mary was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, Ephrata. For many years, she worked as a registered nurse at Dr. Laukaitis office in Reinholds. Mary enjoyed knitting, traveling, family and friends.

She is survived by her four sons: Jim Goodall of Aiken, S.C.; Mike, husband of Donna (Allen) Goodall of Beverly, Mass.; Steve, husband of Susan (Brown) Goodall of Florence, S.C.; Joe, husband of Jill (Cinader) Goodall of Clarkston, Mich.; a daughter: Cindy, wife of Jeff Gehman of Denver; grandchildren: Liz, wife of Chris Weitzel; Amanda Gehman; Jess and Kelly Goodall; Eileen, wife of Scott Dougherty; Steve Goodall; Kyle, husband of Jamie Goodall; Kathryn, wife of Derek Buie; Joanna Goodall; Alex and Anna Goodall; great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Ryanne and Gavin Dougherty; and a sister: Ruth Whitten of Brewer, Maine.

Jesse D. Roberts, Ephrata EMT, Warwick graduate

Jesse D. Roberts, Jr. of Lititz, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Born in Pottstown, he is the son of Emma Sheeler Roberts, Lititz, and the late Jesse D. Roberts, Sr. He is the husband of Jaime Zerr Roberts.

A graduate of Warwick High School, Jesse worked as an Ephrata EMT.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children: Michael Roberts of Arizona; Carla Roberts of Oklahoma; Olivia Roberts of Landisville; stepchildren: Elizabeth Clay of Reading; Grace Clay of Reading; two grandchildren; a sister: Cathy, wife of Philip Davidson of Lititz; brothers: Ronald, husband of Chris of Lebanon; Donald, husband of Marilyn, Lititz; and Dale, husband of Charity of Delaware.

Russell Eugene Weachter, High Steel retiree, athlete

Russell "Russ" Eugene Weachter, 73, of Akron, went peacefully to his final home Friday, May 31 surrounded by his family.

He was under hospice care when he lost the battle with heart disease and diabetes.

Born in Rothsville, he was the son of the late Howard S. and Gladys Ehrhart Weachter. He was married to Phyllis Marie (Foltz) Weachter in April of 1960 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Rothsville. They were married 53 years.

Russell was a retired crane operator, employed 25 years at High Steel Structures, Inc., Lancaster. He received a service award in 1999. Prior to that, he worked at the former Miller Hess Shoe Company for 25 years. Russell was a member of the United Methodist Community Church of Oregon. He played slow-pitch baseball with various teams in Ephrata and Lititz and played against the famous King and His Court. He went to state championship at Williamsport with Hilltop Inn, Ephrata. He also played basketball in Ephrata and Lititz, playing against the Harlem Magicians. He was also a pitcher for High Steel slow-pitch.

Kathryn Z. Styer, 93, Brownstown resident

Kathryn Z. Styer, 93, of Brownstown, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Reading Hospital.

She was born in West Earl to the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Burkholder.

Kathryn is survived by three children: Gerald L., husband of Marjorie Styer of Brownstown; Gary R., husband of Tammy Styer of Reinholds; Kay Y., wife of Ernest Youndt of Mohnton; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers: Leon, wife of Pat Burkholder; Walter Burkholder; and Abram, husband of Jane Burkholder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers: Jacob Burkholder Jr., Paul Burkholder, Willis Burkholder, Leroy Burkholder, Harold Burkholder and Carl Burkholder; and three sisters: Suie Bowman, Mary Herr and Edna Hoffner.

A visitation was held June 3 at the Stradling Funeral Home followed by a memorial service. Interment took place in the Metzler Mennonite cemetery.

Gladys N. Ranck, 98, of Ephrata, was seamstress

Gladys N. Ranck, 98, of Ephrata, formerly of Honey Brook, died Monday, May 27, at Ephrata Manor.

Her husband, George L. Ranck, preceded her in death in 1983.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Elam and Deborah (Kauffman) Neuhauser.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata.

Surviving are three children: Carol J., married to Clair R. Gehman, New Holland; G. Michael Ranck, Odessa, Fla.; and William L., married to Eugenie (Lamb) Ranck, Blacksburg, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Ranck.

Her funeral will be private at the Groff-High Funeral Home with Pastor William LaSalle officiating. Interment will be in Ranck’s United Methodist cemetery.

Readith V. Petery, 90, Dutchmaid seamstress

Readith V. Petery, 90, of Denver, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at her residence.

She was born in Stevens to the late Raymond and Erla (Meisky) Showers and was the wife of the late Lester E. Petery, who died in 1999.

Readith worked as a seamstress for Dutchmaid Clothing and she also worked at Anderson Pharmacy. She was a very family-oriented lady, who especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Readith is survived by her son: Gerald E., husband of Martha J. (Wingenroth) Petery of Denver; two sisters: Betty, wife of Ralph Firestine of Stevens; and Helen: wife of Elmer Hirneisen of Ephrata; two grandchildren: Wesley, husband of Marsha Petery of Reinholds; and Lenore, wife of Patrick Horner Sr. of Harrisburg; great-grandchildren: Marissa Petery, Madison Petery, Patrick Horner, Jr. and Lianna Horner.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Showers.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family.

Marion F. Nagle, 61, was secretary at Elanco Chiro.

Marion F. Nagle, 61, of Ephrata, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

Marion was a longtime Ephrata resident and worked as a Secretary for Elanco Chiropractic, Inc. of Ephrata.

She is survived by her son: Jack Nagle of Akron; two sisters: Dianne, wife of Robert L. Martin of East Earl; and Sandra, wife of James Grubb of Denver; one brother: Richard L. Sweigart, husband of Linda of Denver; and one step-brother: Gary Meckley, husband of Robin of Lititz.

Marion was preceded in death by her son: Kevin M. Nagle; her father: S. Harry Sweigart; step-mother: Janet Sweigart; her mother: Joanne and step-father: Robert Meckley.

Funeral services were held June 4 at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals with the Rev. Dave Musselman officiating. Place of interment was Hammer Creek Mennonite cemetery, Lititz.

Edith S. Leed, 86, hair stylist and seamstress

Edith S. (Schannauer) Leed, 86, of York, formerly of Denver, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at Wellspan Health, York Hospital ICU.

She was born in Stevens to the late Harvey and Elsie G. (Gockley) Schannauer and was the wife of the late Charles R. Leed, who died in 2009.

She was a member of Luther Memorial Church in York and a former member of Mellingers Lutheran Church in Schoeneck. Edith worked as a hairstylist in Ephrata for several years and also worked for the Rosenau Bros. Sewing Factory and Dallmyer Sewing Factory of York. She was last employed as a manager of the LP Video Store, Red Lion for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, cooking and traveling. Edith had attended the Mt. Airy one room school house as a child. She and her late husband moved to York county in 1969.

Edith is survived by her son: Gene, husband of Sharon (Bridwell) Leed of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters: Andrea L. Leed, companion of Tanya A. Harbold, of York; and Cheryl, wife of Thomas Donaldson of Amelia Island, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Schannauer.
