Robert L. Reitzel, 65, vet, NTN worker, sportsman

Robert L. Reitzel, 65, of Ephrata, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at Essa Flory Hospice & Community Care in Lancaster surrounded by his family. Born in Lancaster, he is the son of Mary A. (Getz) Pichler and the late Bruce E. Reitzel.

He was a 1966 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and attended York College. Bob was employed for NTN-BCA Corp. in Lititz for many years and went onto work at Y&S Candies in Lancaster. He was of the Catholic faith. Bob was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed going to the beach. He was a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz and the Strasburg Sportsmen Association.

He was a veteran proudly serving in the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters: Tammy L., wife of Glenn Haldeman of Reamstown; and Stacie L., wife of Kenneth Miller of Shippensburg. Also surviving is a sister: Arlene Scheingraber, of Lancaster; and eight grandchildren.

A viewing was held on Feb. 25 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory followed by a Christian prayer service on Feb. 26. Interment was in Conestoga Memorial Park in Lancaster.

Barbara Ann Parks, 64, enjoyed time with family

Barbara Ann Parks, 64, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care, Lancaster.

She was born in Philadelphia to the late Emil and Ida (Bates) Ricca and was the wife of James R. Parks.

Barbara attended Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ephrata. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son: James M., husband of Jessica Parks of Bozeman, Mont.; a daughter: Lisa Vogelsong, companion of Dwayne Christ of Ephrata; grandchildren: Joseph M. Jr. and Nicole M. Gallo; Bella Marie, Maybel Ann and Quinn Douglas Parks; two brothers: Emil Joseph III, husband of Rina Ricca of Utah; Daniel C., husband of Theresa Ricca of Ephrata; sister: Ida, wife of Jodi Hunt of Petersburg, Va.; sister-in-law: Phyllis Ricca of Ephrata.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: John Ricca.

A gathering to celebrate Barbara’s life will take place on Friday, March 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Father John McLoughlin C.S.S.R. as celebrant. Final commendation and farewell will be private in the Cedar Hill cemetery.

Sharon (Herman) Miller, 61, treasured her family

Sharon Elaine (Herman) Miller, 61, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at the Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Ephrata on July 21, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Harold Herman and Arlene (Buckwalter) Herman.

Sharon was the wife of Ronald L. Miller and together they celebrated 38 years of marriage.

Sharon was a graduate of Garden Spot High School. She was a former employee of Victor F. Weaver, Inc., New Holland, Bareville Garment, Martindale and Friendship Community, Lancaster.

Sharon enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon. Each summer she looked forward to vacationing with her family at the beach.

Sharon’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured holidays spent with her family.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five children: Melissa (Cris) Miller; Julie Dilbeck; Lori (Alan) Simpson; Lisa (Gregg) Swartley; and Jeffrey (Karen) Miller; seven grandchildren: Dalton and Grace Miller; Stephanie Miller; Christina Bryan; Matthew Simpson; Kelly Ice; and Ryan Miller; and eight great-grandchildren.

She is also survived two siblings: Harold "Pete" (Karen) Herman, Jr.; and Connie Rhoades.

Jaxon Reed Krimes, Infant

Jaxon Reed Krimes, infant son of Matthew Krimes and Kelly Marshall, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Hershey Medical Center.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother: Ethan Parese; two sisters: Alexis and Nathalie Krimes; maternal grandmother: Karen, wife of Tommie David of Reinholds; paternal grandparents: Donald and Lan Krimes of Adamstown; paternal great grandmother: Naomi Krimes; paternal great grandparents: Peggy and Donald Roy of Ephrata.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather: Jerry Marshall.

Services were held Feb. 25 at the Stradling Funeral Home, Ephrata, followed by a graveside service in the Mohler’s Brethren cemetery, Ephrata, with Pastor Gene Weaver officiating.

Fly high baby boy, you will be missed dearly.

Louanne M. Gensemer, 65, in first E.A.R.S. group

Louanne M. Gensemer, 65, of Denver, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was born in Denver to the late Leroy G. and Verna E. (Ernst) Gensemer.

Louanne was a member of St. John’s UCC, Denver. In 1970, she was one of the first 10 participants in the E.A.R.S. program, a shelter for mentally and physically handicapped people. She loved to play solitaire, solve hidden word puzzles, bingo and watch TV Land.

Louanne is survived by her brother: Robert E., husband of Doreen (Earhart) Gensemer of Denver; four nieces: Stephanie, Jennifer, Trista and Mykayliah; two nephews: Dustin and Dakota; and six great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Feb. 26 at the Fairview cemetery Annex, Steinmetz Road, Denver, with Rev. David Brumbaugh officiating.

Kira Ann Flick, 27, Ephrata, was therapist, volunteer

Kira Ann Flick, age 27, of Ephrata, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. Born in Lancaster, a daughter of Jeffrey L. and Kathy A. (Shannon) Flick, Ephrata, she was member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she performed mission work. Kira was a York Technical Institute graduate and worked as a medical coder, nursing assistant and recreational therapist. She also volunteered with soup kitchens, the Humane League of Lancaster County, and taught children reading. Also surviving are brothers: Michael Flick, Mountville; and Brian Flick, Indiana; and her companion, Lucas Fernandez, Ephrata. A Christian Memorial Mass was celebrated Feb. 22 from Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father John McLaughlin as celebrant. Private inurnment was in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster.

Clare Joseph Flasher, 75, vet, CVS pharmacist, dies

Clare Joseph "Joe" Flasher, 75, formerly of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. He was the husband of Connie L. (Ritchey) Flasher and son of the late Clare C. and Kathryn (Wheeler) Flasher. His first wife, the late Cheryl L. Flasher, passed away in 1995.

Joe was born in East Pittsburgh. He received his degree as a pharmacist from Duquesne University and was also a U.S. Air Force veteran.

For 21 years, he worked as the pharmacist in the Downtown Ephrata CVS. Joe was formerly employed at the Peoples Drug Store in Lancaster and Kittanning Hospital Pharmacy in Kittanning. He was also active in the Lancaster County and National Pharmaceutical Associations.

A member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Ephrata, Joe served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and member of Father Daley Council 4191 Knights of Columbus.

In Ephrata, Joe was also a member of the AMVETS Post 136, Cloister Post 429 American Legion, and a tour guide at the Ephrata Cloister.

George M. Zimmerman, 94, manufacturing bus. owner

George M. Zimmerman, 94, of New Holland, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his daughter’s residence, where he had been living since April 17, 2013.

He was born in Earl Township to the late Joseph and Hettie B. (Martin) Zimmerman and was the husband of the late Esther H. (Rissler) Zimmerman.

George was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference), Leola and was the owner of Zimmerman Manufacturing.

George is survived by four sons: David R., husband of Rebecca (Burkholder) Zimmerman of Elkhart, Ind.; Paul R., husband of Mary (Hurst) Zimmerman of Ephrata; Ivan R., husband of Verna (Zimmerman) Zimmerman of Penn Yan, N.Y.; George R., husband of Mabel (Hoover) Zimmerman of Rushville, N.Y.; a daughter: Katie R., wife of Amos Hoover of New Holland; 45 grandchildren and 108 great grandchildren; two brothers: Joseph Zimmerman of East Earl; and David Zimmerman of New Holland; and a sister: Frances Zimmerman of Ephrata.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Enos Zimmerman; a sister: Hettie Ann Shirk; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Elva S. Zeiset, Ephrata, homemaker

Elva S. Zeiset, 82, of Ephrata, passed away peacefully at home Friday, April 26, 2013 after a brief illness.

Born in Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Aaron H. and Edna (Sensenig) Kurtz and the wife of the late David S. Zeiset who passed away on Dec. 9, 2012.

Elva was a homemaker and a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving are five sons: Marvin, husband of Grace (Martin) Zeiset of Manheim; Clair, husband of Sharon (Weaver) Zeiset of Ephrata; Nelson, husband of Rosene (Newswanger) Zeiset of Denver; Eugene, husband of Joy (Weaver) Zeiset of Ephrata; and Jerry, husband of Linette (Horst) Zeiset of Annville; three daughters: Janet, wife of Allen Knarr of Bechtelsville; Marilyn, wife of William Martin, III of New Holland; and Joanne, wife of Nelson Horst of Lincoln University; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three brothers: John Kurtz of Ephrata; Aaron S., husband of Janet (Landis) Kurtz of New Holland; and Willis, husband of Ann (Martin) Kurtz of Ephrata; and three sisters: Jane, wife of Melvin Nolt of Richland; Vera Kurtz of New Holland; and Edna, wife of Glenn Shonk of New Holland.

Matthew C. Wisniewski, 28, D&M Concrete, father of two

Matthew C. Wisniewski, 28, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Lancaster General Hospital.

He was born in Apple Valley, Calif. He was the son of Gloria Ludwig and Michael J. Fritz Sr., who has been his father figure for the past 13 years, and Michael Wisniewski. Matthew was the fiance of Melissa Schmuck.

Matthew worked for D&M Concrete. He was a graduate of Washington Education Center. Matt enjoyed fishing, camping, rock climbing, reading and always felt the need to bring a smile to other’s faces.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son: Tyson; a daughter: Chloe; maternal grandparents: Donald and Mary Ludwig; paternal grandmother: Shirley Wisniewski; and two sisters: Valerie and Paige Wisniewski.

A visitation will be held May 4 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. 9th St., Akron, followed by a celebration of Matthew’s life at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Doug Etter officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Joan R. Sipe, 74, teacher, Rec. Aux., ABWA member

Joan R. Sipe, 74, of Ephrata, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

She was born in Stouchsburg to the late Raymond and Pearl (Keller) Noble and was the wife of the late Lamar G. Sipe.

Joan worked as an elementary school teacher for the Lebanon School District for 22 1/2 years. She was a 1956 graduate of Wilson High School and a 1961 graduate of Millersville State Teachers College. She was a member of the ABWA, Rec Center Auxiliary and Mt. Lebanon Fellowship. Joan enjoyed sports, especially watching her grandchildren, Florida spring training, Busch Gardens-Tampa Bay, Ocean City, N.J. and Williamsburg, Va. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Joan is survived by three sons: Robert L., husband of Beth (Hornberger) Sipe of Ephrata; John D. Sipe, companion of Erma Morgan of Akron; Thomas N. Sipe of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter: Lizabeth R., husband of Jeffrey A. Murry of Denver; seven grandchildren: Derek, Carlee, Leah, Jennifer, Brady, Ethan and Matthew; and two step grandchildren: Aubree and Leann.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson: Riley and a sister: Sandra Kline.

Charles Timothy Potteiger, veteran, Hamilton retiree

Charles Timothy Potteiger, 70, died Saturday April 27, 2013, at his West Cocalico home.

Born in Lebanon County, he was the son of the late Elam and Sara (Noll) Potteiger.

He was the husband of Lizzie F. (Gerhart) Potteiger with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Charles served his country in the US Army. He attended Haaks United Zion Church, Newmanstown. Charles retired from Hamilton Equipment, Ephrata. He was happiest when working in his garage and playing with his great-grandchildren. he was a Nascar fan and enjoyed building model cars.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by a daughter: Mary, married to Neil Copenhaver of Ephrata; grandchildren: Nathan, husband of Stacey; Nevin, husband of Beth and Nicole Copenhaver; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his step mother: Anna Potteiger; two step brothers; and one step sister.

A viewing will be held May 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Haaks United Zion Church, 203 Stricklerstown Road, Newmanstown, followed by funeral services held at 10 a.m. with Rev. Carl Eberly and Eli Eberly officiating. Interment will take place in the Millbach cemetery in Millbach.

Margaret S. Lied, 98, EHS cafeteria, Dutchmaid Inc. worker, resided at Manor

Margaret S. Lied, 98, formerly of Reamstown, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Ephrata Manor, where she resided since 2003.

Born in East Cocalico Township, Margaret was a daughter of the late Harry B. and Susan (Shober) Young and the wife of the late Lester H. Lied, who passed away in 1995.

Margaret was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata and worked at the former Dutchmaid, Inc. clothing manufacturer and Ephrata High School cafeteria.

She is survived by two daughters: Jo, wife of Paul Cox of Akron; and Jane: wife of Wilmer Sensenig of New Holland; five grandchildren: Janice Ballenger, Larry Cox, John Cox, Pat Caine, and Dale Sensenig; eight great-grandchildren: Mathew, James, Lisa, Lori, Brian, Kate, Cameron, and Brandon; four great-great-grandchildren: Brandon, Lauren, Olivia, and Chase; four step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Clarence and Floyd Young.

Friends were received at Bethany U.C.C. 140 East Main St., Ephrata, PA 17522. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. William LaSalle officiating.
