Kenneth Young, 74, former Ephrata Lions president

Kenneth S. Young, 74, of Willow Valley, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Nov. 21, 2012, at Willow Valley Lakeside.

He was born in Brickerville, Elizabeth Township to the late William and Mazie (Spangler) Young and was the husband of Ellanora J. (Beck) Young, with whom he shared 10 years of marriage.

Kenneth was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ephrata, and presently a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Willow Street. He was an avid fisherman and also held memberships with the Ephrata Lions, where he was a past President and maintained perfect attendance, a member and past President of Lancaster Association Life Underwriters, a charter member of Denver Jaycees and a member of Lewes Lions. He served as a Judge of Elections for Ephrata’s 4th Ward for 16 years. During his working years, Kenneth worked in sales for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he retired in 1994 after 26 years. He served his country in the US Army from 1956-1958 in Germany, Specialist 4th Class.

Donald Walmer, 78, Korea vet, Weave Corp. employee

Donald H. Walmer, 78, of Stevens, passed away Monday Nov. 19, 2012, at the Ephrata Manor.

He was born in Lebanon to the late Oliver and Lilly (Brown) Walmer and was the husband of Thelma E. (Darkes) Walmer, with whom he would have been married 60 years on Jan. 1.

A veteran of the Korean War, Donald served from 1952 to 1954 in the U.S. Navy. After working for 40 years, he retired in 1998 from Weave Corp., Denver, where he worked as a knotter. He was well known for his sense of humor. An avid Eagles and Phillies fan, Donald liked fishing and hunting. He enjoyed listening to Bill Gaither gospel music. Spending time with his family and grandchildren was what he especially enjoyed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons: Donald E., husband of Kim (Frantz) Walmer, Narvon, and Brian K., husband of Patti (Kauffman) Walmer, Ephrata; two daughters: Angie S., wife of Jeff Groff, Denver, and Wendy J., wife of Klint Auker, Denver; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jeanette, wife of Lester Spangler, Jonestown and Catherine, wife of Abner Church, Frederickburg.

Betty Jane Smith, 82, former Stillwater Pond owner

Betty Jane Smith, 82, of Ephrata, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov.19, 2012, at her residence.

She was born in Akron to the late Charles and Edna (Parmer) Buchen and was the wife of the late W. Merle Smith.

She was an elementary school teacher in Rohrerstown until 1962. In the 1970s, Betty and her husband were the owners of Stillwater Pond in Lebanon County. She enjoyed shopping, movies, reading and spending time with her family. She was a warm, loving person.

Betty is survived by a son: Lowell, husband of Kathy Smith of Lebanon; two daughters: Lori Smith of Elizabethtown and Lisa Smith of Reading; two grandchildren: Kristen and Aaron.

Services were held Nov. 23 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Alex Alvarez officiating. Interment followed in the Heller’s cemetery, Upper Leacock Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty ‘s memory may be made to Independent Church in India, PO Box 238, Fredericksburg, PA 17026.

Fawn Sensenig, 51, artist, enjoyed nature, volunteering

Fawn Marie Sensenig, 51, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Fawn was originally from Lancaster County but has spent the past 11 years living in Pottersdale, Pa. with Walt — her best friend and husband of 18 years.

Fawn courageously fought a four-year battle with cancer. She loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, fishing and photography. She was a very creative, talented, artistic person. Fawn was very involved in many community organizations where she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband Walt, she is survived by a son: Adam Treier of Denver; a granddaughter: Hailey Treier of Denver; her father: Charles Treier, husband of Diane (Stutzman) Treier of W.V.; three siblings: Holly Deimler, Denver, Leaf Brown, Waterloo, Pa., Zodac Treier and Ty Treier, both of Fla.; seven nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews; also two dogs: Bunny and Cole; and two cats, Mutley and 10pm.

Fawn was preceded in death by her mother: Lorraine Mae (Hoffa) Treier and a nephew: William Bottenfield.

A celebration of life gathering will be taking place at the Quahanna Motor Lodge, Karthaus, Pa., 6 p.m., Wed., Nov. 28. An additional gathering will also take place in Denver at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012.

Iva Myer, 96, Hess Shoe Co. employee, Grace EC member

Iva M. Myer, 96, formerly of Akron, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Luther Acres where she lived for the past seven years.

She was born in Manheim Township to the late William and Iva (Myers) Martin and was the wife of the late Clarence M. Myer, who died Feb. 2008.

She was a member of the Grace EC Church, Akron, where she and her husband were long time custodians. During her working years, Iva worked at the former Miller Hess Shoe Co., and Brownstown Vo-Tech. She also volunteered her time at the Ephrata Hospital and cooked for Meals on Wheels.

Iva is survived by her children: Nevin L., husband of Jean (Burkins) Myer of Lititz, Larry G., husband of Linda (Roth) Myer of Ephrata, Ann M., wife of Ralph W. Roseboro of Reinholds, Clarence M. Jr., husband of Anne Marie (Collier) Myer of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Joan Kilhefner; and a grandson: Brian Kilhefner; three brothers; and three sisters. Iva is the last of her immediate family.

Anna Musser, 86, coordinated card ministry

Anna G. Musser, 86, of 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of Narvon, died Tuesday, November 20, at Fairmount Homes.

Born in Bowmansville, she was the daughter of the late Aaron B. and Annie H. (Good) Musser.

Anna worked at the former Victor F. Weaver, Inc. and did housework for various people. She retired from Harting’s Bakery in 1995. She was a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church.

Throughout her years, Anna provided a card ministry, sending cards to friends, family, and her church family. Her interests included crossword puzzles, singing, and spending time with family and friends.

The last of her family, she was preceded in death by six sisters: Jennie Weber, Irene Weaver, Katie Musser, Elizabeth Nolt, Esther Nolt, and Marian Shertzer.

Services were held Nov. 24 at Bowmansville Mennonite Church, East Earl, with Pastors Larry Weber and Duane Ringler officiating. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. Harold Moyer, butcher, history buff, postcard collector

Harold J. Moyer, 79, of Reinholds, passed away Monday Nov. 19, 2012, at the Ephrata Community Hospital.

He was born in East Cocalico Township to the late Landis and Lillian (Gerhart) Weidman and was the husband of Ruth (Harting) Moyer, who were married 56 years.

Harold was a member of the Blainsport Mennonite Church. He loved history and he was an avid postcard collector. Harold enjoyed collecting antiques and going to sales and he also enjoyed gardening. Harold worked as a butcher for Triple G and Weaver Markets. Harold also worked at Gehman Feed Mill, Denver.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his sons and daughters: Ellen, wife of Steven Depuy of Reinholds; Rachel, wife of Keith Lutz of Ephrata; Jonathan, husband of Susan Moyer of Newmanstown; Stephen, husband of Norma Moyer of Reinholds; and Rebecca, wife of Carl Rutt of Denver; a step brother Charles Weidman Jr.; two step sisters: Mary Moyer of Reinholds and Lucy Shimp of Ephrata; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Fred Weidman; and a sister: Kathryn Goshert.

Brooke Mauzy, 43, Ephrata grad, Intel employee

Brooke Mauzy, 43, born in Lancaster, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and loving friend to everyone who knew her, passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm Nov. 10, 2012 in Portland, Ore. We’re comforted to know she’s been welcomed into God’s presence and into the loving arms of her Grandma and Pa.

Brooke Renee Mauzy was born on May 20, 1969 to Audrey Harnish Miller of Bird-in-Hand and James M. Mauzy of the Outer Banks, N.C. She was the loving sister and best friend of Bronwynn Mauzy March of Lancaster.

Brooke graduated from Ephrata High School in 1987 and was employed with Warner-Lambert customer service and marketing before moving to Portland, Ore. In Portland, she was employed by Intel and was currently fulfilling her ambitions as Marketing Program Manager for Intel’s Medical & Industrial Segments. She enjoyed traveling on numerous business trips across the country. She had attended Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church before moving to Portland.

Lynn Martin, 68, Navy vet, enjoyed Green Dragon

Lynn Harvey Martin, 68, of Denver, passed away after a lengthy illness Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at his home.

He was born in East Earl to the late Harvey Z. and Esther Elizabeth (Betty) Martin and was the husband of Charlotte (Stricker) Martin, of Denver.

Lynn attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Denver. He enjoyed fishing, nature and having breakfast at the Green Dragon with family. Lynn served in the U.S. Navy, and during his working years, he was a truck driver for F.W. Woolworth, Ames and Boscov’s. He retired from Boscov’s in 2008.

In addition to his wife, Lynn is survived by a son: Shawn Christopher, husband of Amanda (Diamon) Martin of Erie; two daughters: Debra Lynn Gooslin of Denver, Tammy Sue McNeil of Denver; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; seven siblings: Dale, husband of Ethel (Eisenhower) Martin of Ephrata, Betty Ann, wife of John Halley of Calif., Nelda Bauder of New Holland, Willa, wife of Luke Ulrich of Denver, Norma Knowles of Fla., Myrna, wife of Willis Eberly of Reinholds, and Lorin Martin of Denver.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Nicole Denise Martin; a grandson: Jason Lynn Gooslin; a brother: Dean Martin; and a sister: Lucy Martin.

Charles Kindt, 79, mason, enjoyed hunting

Charles L. Kindt, 79, of Reinholds, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Reading Hospital.

He was born in East Cocalico to the late Walter and Elsie (Brendle) Kindt.

During his working years, he worked as a mason. Charles enjoyed hunting and was a member of Cushion Peak Rod and Gun Club, Reinholds.

Charles is survived by a daughter: Linda, wife of Richard Yocum of Reinholds; a grandson: Richard Yocum Jr.; two granddaughters: Amy Reichwein and Angela Wittenberg; and two great-granddaughters: Julia and Haley Wittenberg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson: William Yinger; and a brother: Russell Kindt.

Cindy Sue Sweigart, 54, was production worker

Cindy Sue Sweigart, 54, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at her residence.

She was born in Lancaster. Cindy was a former production worker in various factories in the area. Her hobbies included playing computer games and watching TV soap operas.

Cindy is survived by her daughter: Kristi Sweigart of Honeoye, N.Y.; a close friend Mary Ann Kraft of Ephrata; a step brother: Scott Cochran of Ephrata; a sister in law: Karla Sweigart of Ephrata; and a cousin: Karen Sweigart of Reamstown.

By request, funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Virginia M. Stauffer, 91, Ephrata Shoe Co. worker

Virginia M. Stauffer, 91, of Leola, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

She was born in New Holland to the late Elmer and Verna (Musser) Martin and was the wife of the late Phares S. Stauffer.

Virginia was a member of Metzler Mennonite Church, Ephrata. During her working years, she worked for the Ephrata Shoe Company. She enjoyed baking, reading and gardening.

Virginia is survived by her children: Fred M. Stauffer of Leola; Elaine, wife of the late Vincent Ziolkowski of Ephrata; Janet Roberts of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Shannon M. Stauffer of Leola; Parke, husband of Debra Stauffer of Morgantown, Juanita, wife of Richard Seibert of Dagsboro, Del.; Lorna, wife of Richard McAlevy of Reinholds; Conrad A. Stauffer of Circle, Mont.; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her siblings, Stanley, husband of Alta Martin of Ephrata; Marian, wife of Walter Shirk of Downing, Mo.; Lloyd, husband of Lydia Martin of Gap; Earl, husband of Earla Martin of Robesonia.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Russell M. Stauffer; a daughter: Thalia J. Stauffer; siblings: Shelly Martin, Florence Stauffer, Chester Martin, Fred Martin, Vera Shirk, June Martin and Melvin Martin.

Roger B. Spotts, 81, vet, Raymark Industries worker

Roger B. Spotts, 81, of Lititz, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at Brethren Village. He was the husband of Miriam P. (Brumbaugh) Spotts for 60 years on Aug. 16, 2012.

Born in Ephrata, to the late Elmer and Mabel (McElhenney) Spotts, Roger lived most of his life in the Ephrata area. He was a member of Grace E.C. Church in Ephrata, where he was a former church trustee and church board president.

Roger was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Cloister Post 429 American Legion and Cocalico Post 3376 VFW, both of Ephrata.

He worked for Raymark Industries in Manheim and most recently was employed by Elco and Garden Spot school districts in the cafeteria and supply departments.

Roger was an avid bowler and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife Miriam, Roger is survived by a daughter: Linda M., wife of Richard L. Althouse; a granddaughter: Amy, wife of Robert Mellinger III; a sister: Ruby J., wife of Russell Petticoffer; and a brother: Lynn D., husband of Johan (Wilhelm) Spotts, all residents of Ephrata.
