Alma Hagy, 84, Hemmerich Mills designer, hostess
Alma T. Hagy, 84, of Denver, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at the Ephrata Community Hospital.
She was born in Allentown to the late Edward and Viola (Mirth) Kurtz and was the wife of Clifford E. Hagy.
During her working years, Alma was a sewing machine operator for C&B Trimming and New Holland Lingerie. She was also a clothing designer for Hemmerich Mills of Denver, former beauty salon operator and hostess for the former Colonial Motor Lodge.
Alma enjoyed traveling, gourmet cooking, sewing, reading and was an avid football fan.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son; Richard R., husband of Patricia (Afflerbach) Hagy, of North Wales; and a daughter: Gail R., wife of Albert Keith, of Reinholds.
The services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Paul Golias, Exxon inspector, Marine mechanic in WWII
Paul James Golias, 90, of Ephrata, passed away at his residence Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. Born in Waterford, he was the son of the late John J. and Judith Gluch Golias. He was married
for 67 years to Madeline Pinterich Golias.
He was an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II and also served during the Korean War. Paul was a member of the Lancaster Evangelical Free Church of Lititz and was active with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, was a stamp collector and a handy man. An inventor, he worked as an inspector for Exxon in Bayway, N.J., prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Cynthia K., wife of Jon Balson, of Brownstown; David P., husband of Julie Golias, of Mounds View, Minn.; and Judith A., wife of Dwayne Muller, of Somerset, N.J.; seven grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight siblings.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in November. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National cemetery. Dorothy Beck, 92, Ephrata Manor, was homemaker
Dorothy M. Beck, 92, entered into rest at Ephrata Manor Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012.
She previously lived at The Long Home in Lancaster and Smoketown. Born in Lancaster County on Feb. 27, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emily (Maurer) Gochnauer. She was married
to Elwood Binkley who died in 1947 and Roy Beck who died in 1975.
Dorothy was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family and trying new recipes. She worked a short time as a housekeeper for several tourist establishments in the Bird-in-Hand area and was a member of Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Her favorite pastime was listening to gospel music.
She is survived by her children: Doris, wife of Richard Adair, of Manheim; Donald, husband of Virginia Binkley, of Spring Hill, Fla.; Shirley Armitage, of Lancaster; Gladys, wife of Ralph Albright, of Landisburg; Ralph, husband of Donna Wood, of Coopersburg; Henry, husband of Susan Bechtold, of Pipersville; Gordon Beck, Lois Hiltz, companion of Jeff Weidler, and Ronald Beck, all of Lancaster; Carol Velasquez, of Ephrata; and Darryl Beck, of Leola; a daughter-in-law: Lydia Beck, of Lancaster; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother: Joseph, husband of Marie Gochnauer, of Lancaster.
Robert Kessler, 89, WWII vet, Frank Ix mill worker
Robert Winfield Kessler, 89, a lifelong resident of Bowmansville, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Born in Bowmansville, he was the son of the late Adam and Elsie (Harting) Kessler.
Following graduation from New Holland High School, he served in the Army during World War II with Darby’s Rangers Co. F 3rd Battalion. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and was active in various Masonic organizations. He had been employed for 47 years at the former Frank Ix & Sons Silk Mill.
Surviving is a sister: Marguerite Hunchberger, of Hershey; two nieces: Cosette Rhodes, of Hummelstown; and Kay Lingle, of Lancaster; a nephew: Robert H. Kessler, of Leola; a grand nephew: Gregory Rhodes; and a grand niece: Wendy Lingle.
He was preceded in death by a brother: A. Clair Kessler; and by a twin brother.
His service was held on Aug. 27 at the Bowmansville Union cemetery.

Candice Innes, 42, Garden Spot Village employee
Candice "Candi" Innes, 42, of New Holland, died unexpectedly in Ephrata Community Hospital emergency room Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.
Born in Chester, Delaware County, she worked at Garden Spot Village, New Holland.
She is survived by her parents: Ronald A. and Carol (Lippert) Parker, of Denver; her husband: Robert C. Innes, daughters: Jacqueline, Catherine, Stephanie and Emily Innes and grandchildren: Connor and Isabella, all of New Holland; and a sister: Kimberly, wife of John Starcheski, of Wagontown.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 27 from Good Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Reamstown, with the Rev. William E. Hoch officiating. Burial followed in Muddy Creek cemetery, Swartzville.

Pauline Grant, 85, Denver Hat, A.N. Wolf employee
Pauline S. "Polly" Grant, 85, of Coudersport, formerly of Denver, entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, where she had resided since June 2010.
Born on Feb. 6, 1927 in Smokestown, she was a daughter of Harry and Stella Hemminger Sweigart. On Sept. 15, 1951 in the Reformed Church in Denver, she married
Robert D. Grant, who survives.
Mrs. Grant attended Denver High School and completed her GED in later years. Throughout her life, she had been employed by the Denver Hat Factory and A.N. Wolf Shoe Factory, both in Denver. She had also been employed at Beulah’s Candyland at the Green Dragon Market and Auction, Zerbe’s Potato Chips in Denver and Rutt’s Auction.
Mrs. Grant also assisted her husband in managing his well drilling and water system business. Along with her husband, Mrs. Grant traveled to Togo, Africa, on a mission trip to assist in developing water systems in that region of Africa.
Anthony E. Discavage Jr., 65, printer, born in Ephrata
Anthony E. Discavage Jr., 65, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully of lung cancer Aug. 21, 2012 at the Hospice and Community Care Center, Mount Joy, surrounded by his family.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Anthony E. and Susan (Sandoski) Discavage. Tony was the husband of Maria Teresa Pfautz, with whom he celebrated 21 years of marriage.
Tony graduated in 1964 from Lancaster Catholic High School. Prior to his illness he was a van driver for the Manheim Auto Auction; prior to that he worked as a pre-press printer at Cadmus/Lancaster Press for 40 years. Tony enjoyed deep-sea fishing, traveling, spending time with his family and was "always up for a new adventure."
Surviving in addition to Tony’s wife, Maria, are his step-sons: Michael, husband of Shannon Pfautz, of Clay, N.Y.; and Eddie Pfautz, of Largo, Fla.; grandchildren: Michael and Alex; three brothers: Donald A., husband of Anita Discavage, of Lititz; Gregory D., husband of Diane Discavage, of Spotsylvania, Va.; and Thomas, husband of Theresa Discavage, of Lancaster; and a sister: Suzanne, wife of Robert Diller, of Mount Joy; and nephews and nieces: Donald, husband of Kendall Discavage; Lauren and Matthew Discavage; Jasa Hathaway; Katy Matthews; Beth Bisciglia; Sara Martinez; Chad Cowles, Mackenzie and Riley Bedwell; Travis, husband of Noel Cowles; Josh, husband of Kate Discavage; Cole, David and Andrew Discavage; and Tom Moore.
Marguerite Weinhold, 86, Bollman Hat employee
Marguerite "Mickey" A. Weinhold, 86, of Mohnton, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at the Reading Hospital.
She was born in Adamstown to the late Martin and Nora (Keiffer) Althouse and was the wife of the late Paul H. Weinhold who died in 2005.
Mickey was a member of the Alleghenyville Lutheran Church, Mohnton. She enjoyed gardening and she loved to spend time with her family. For over 30 years, Mickey worked for Bollman Hat Factory, Adamstown.
She is survived by her five children: Linda J., wife of Howard Ream, of Newmanstown; Thomas P., husband of Bonnie (Youndt) Weinhold, of Gambrills, Md.; Brenda M., wife of Kenneth Baur, of Mohnton; Jerry D., husband of Jayne (Kline) Weinhold, of Birdsboro; and Troy A. Weinhold, of Mohnton; a brother: Earl, husband of Mary (Schanauer) Althouse, of Mohnton; a sister: Mary, wife of Harry Kring Jr., of Mohnton; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mickey was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert and Charles Althouse; and sisters: Ada Curley and Betty Althouse.
A viewing will be held Oct. 4 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Allegheny Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Road, Mohnton, followed her funeral service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Gregory Shreaves officiating. Interment will take place in the Allegheny cemetery.
Mildred Weaver, 89, Lititz, Weaver Industries treasurer
Mildred A. Weaver, 89, of Lititz, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Moravian Manor.
She was born in Ephrata to Joseph and Elizabeth (Ruhl) Kline and was the wife of the late Harold S. Weaver, who passed away in 1989.
Mildred supported her husband in the establishment of Weaver Industries in 1954, where she served as treasurer of the company. She was a member of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver, and the Women’s Club of Denver and Eastern Star. Mildred loved to knit, crochet and play card games.
Mildred is survived by a son: John, husband of Yvonne (Moyer) Weaver, of Denver; three grandsons: J.J., husband of Dawn (Kiser) Weaver, of Augusta, Ga.; Jim, husband of Chivonne (Kline) Weaver, of Denver; and Jason Weaver, of Denver; and three great- grandchildren: Jacob, Jenna Kate and CharLee.
Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver, with Rev. Joseph Veres and Robert Cramer officiating. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Pleasant View cemetery, Sinking Spring.

Dorothy "Dolly" Steffy, 87, of Ephrata, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at her home.
She was born in Ephrata to the late Elmer and Elsie (Leed) Swain and was the wife of the late Charles W. Steffy.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. During her working years, Dorothy worked as a nurse for Maple Farms and later retired from Doneckers of Ephrata.
Dorothy is survived by her son: Ashley C., husband of Deborah Steffy; step-grandchildren: Michelle, wife of Brent Redmiles; and John Withelder; step-great grandchildren: Kate and Christopher Redmiles; a sister: Kathryn Newpher; sisters- in-law: Kathryn Steffy, Kathryn Edris, Ruth Hollinger, Alice Steffy and Susan Sensenig; and brother-in-law: Harry Steffy.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Letty F. Steffy; a brother: Chester Arthur White; and a sister: Theda Solomon.
Her funeral service was held Oct. 2 at the First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, with Rev. Walter Carter officiating.
Interment took place in the Memory Gardens Memorial cemetery.

John Ocker, D&E retiree, decorated WWII veteran
John A. Ocker, 86, of Akron, and formerly of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at Luther Acres in Lititz.
John was the husband of Shirley L. (Phillips) Ocker, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage.
John was born in New Cumberland, son of the late John A. and Wilhelmina (Stigler) Ocker.
He was a resident of Akron since 1966 and retired from the former D&E Telephone Co. of Ephrata in 1987 after 33 years of employment. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, Arrowhead and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Cocalico Post 3376 VFW and Cloister Post 429 American Legion, all of Ephrata, and was formerly an Assistant Scout Master in Boy Scout Troop 73 of Ephrata. John enjoyed travel, camping, fishing, hunting and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Dennis L., husband of Rebecca Ocker, of Lititz; and Jerome R., husband of Laura Ocker, of King of Prussia; five grandchildren; and one brother: Calvin E. Ocker, of Ephrata.
June Hacker, Ephrata
June Elizabeth Hacker, born June 4, 1919, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Allentown.
June was the daughter of the late Herb and Caroline Myers, and a life-long resident of Ephrata. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ike Hacker.
She was a loving and caring wife and mother, whose devotion to God and family was evident in her daily life.
June is survived by her daughters: Julie, wife of William Wilkinson, of Richardson, Texas; Linda, wife of George Gibbs, of Emmaus; a son: Willard Hacker, of Ephrata; grandchildren: Bob and John Wilkinson and Diana Hulton and Amanda Sabastro; and great- grandchildren: Jade, Ian, Aaliyah, Kate, Josh, Matt, Hannah June, Ryan and Will.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 68 N. Church St., Ephrata, with Pastor Walter Carter officiating.
