Adelaide "Addie" Waltz Grindel, 79, died Saturday, August 5, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Mrs. Grindel worked at UPMC Passavant as a nurse's aide. She retired in 1989 after 15 years of service. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Church in Pine. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Palermo; three sons , Edward Grindel, James Grindel and Paul Grindel; two sisters ; a brother; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Grindel. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, 10418 Perry Highway, McCandless. Christian Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Alphonsus Church.

Lillian Hunter
North Side

On Sunday, August 6, 2000, Lillian Hunter, of the North Side, Pittsburgh. Cousin of Gilbert Zuber of Murrysville. Friend of Dr. William Crayton McClintock, John and Eleanor Rowley, and Mary Anne Klein. No visitation. Memorial service on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Reformed Presbyterian Home, 2344 Perrysville Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15214. Family suggests contributions to the Reformed Presbyterian Home. Louis J. Hurbanek

Louis J. Hurbanek, of Upper St. Clair, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, with his family at his side. He was the devoted husband of 48 years to Florence M. (Bruner) Hurbanek. Dear Father of Kathleen M. Bennett of Indianapolis, Ind., Carol A. Carter of Bethel Park and Gary L. Hurbanek of Poolesville, Md. Loving grandfather of four granddaughters, Michelle M., Carolyn A., Stacy A. and Stephanie A.; caring brother of Frances Steele, Marilyn Albitz, Albert Hurbanek and James Hurbanek. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hurbanek was a retired electrician after 40 years at Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel of Bridgeville. He will also be remembered as a longtime member of the company's bowling team and league treasurer. As a member of the National Model Railroader Association, he was a lifelong collector of model trains. He spent quiet time working on jigsaw or crossword puzzles and collected stamps from an early age. He also will be remembered outdoors flying kites and shooting fireworks at family picnics. Friends will be received Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at BEINHAUERS, 2828 Washington Road, Peters Township, (724) 941-3211. Veronica Olga (Konkol) Janetka
Saltsburg

Veronica Olga (Konkol) Janetka, 76, of Saltsburg, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, in Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Aultman, a daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Solcik) Konkol. Veronica was a member of St. Sylvester's Catholic Church, Slickville, its Rosary Altar Society and choir, and was a C.C.D. teacher for the church. She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union. An avid Dodgers baseball fan, Veronica loved playing softball, working with her flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed canning and embroidering. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Janetka; four sisters , Susan Konkol, Jennie Seath, Ann Lipchick and Mary Bucko; and four brothers , Ralph, Andrew, George and John Konkol. She is survived by her loving children: a son, Paul Janetka and wife, Dolores, of Penn Hills; daughters , Patricia Hart and husband, Glenn, of Southwest and Mary Susan Tranchine and husband, James, of Export; a brother, Martin Konkol of Aultman; a sister, Pauline Stibrik of Pittsburgh; and a number of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. AT TWIN VALLEY, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, beginning Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Veronica's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Sylvester's Catholic Church, Slickville. Hazel B. Kersting, on Sunday, August 6, 2000 of Brentwood. Beloved wife of Leonard E. for 58 years; devoted mother of Elaine (Lenny) Ransil of Erie, Pa., Leonard (Kathy), Paul, and Mimi (Tom) Gruber; beloved sister of Mildred Smith. Will also be dearly missed by 23 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Friends received at the JOHN F. August Carl Mangola

August Carl Mangola, 64, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000. He was born August 4, 1936 in Sharpsburg. Mr. Mangola spent his young adulthood in California and was one of five people to develop the Sebastian product line and company. In 1986, he opened Mangola's Restaurant in Houston, Texas , which he managed and operated for 13 years. He sold that restaurant in 1998 and retired. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed travel. Survivors include his wife, Judy Mangola; a son, Mark Bower of Pittsburgh; a brother, Anthony Mangola of California; and a sister, Rosemary Glaspey of Florida. A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in J.B. EARTHMAN-TANGLEWOOD CHAPEL, Houston Texas . Christian Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Michael Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, with the Rev. Stephen V. Cooley as celebrant. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

George T. Murphy
Mt. Pleasant

George T. Murphy, 54, of Mt. Pleasant RD, died in Latrobe Area Hospital, Monday, Aug. 7, 2000. He was born March 26, 1946, in Greensburg, a son of the late Walter and Anna Mary Patton Murphy. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Greensburg, and also the Construction and General Laborer's Union, Local 1451. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and also in the Reserves. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter; and an infant son, Brian Thomas. Survived by his wife, Betty Fleming Murphy; a daughter, Denise Gaskil and husband, Jeff, of Blairsville; a son, Chris and fiancee, Julie Chance and her daughter and son, Emily and Jason; a grandson, Jeffrey Thomas Murphy; brothers and sisters , Arthur, Sally Mott and husband, Ted, of Taylor, Mich., Loretta Keller and husband, Bill, of Mt. Pleasant, Susan Camarote and husband, Jerry, of Delmont, John and wife, Noel, of Youngwood, and William and Jane of Latrobe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by funeral services at the Free Methodist Church, Toppers Road, Greensburg, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Lusher and Pastor Byron T. Ellen N. "Dolly" Philp, 76, of Morey Road, Fredericktown (Deemston Borough), died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at 7:53 a.m. in her home, after a brief illness. She was born June 17, 1924, in Centerville Borough, a daughter of the late Walter Sr. and Jane Carins Dryburg. She was a member of the Taylor United Methodist Church, where she was member and chairman of the board of directors, and also a member of the United Methodist Women of the church. She was a 1941 graduate of Centerville High School. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion #705 of Centerville. In 1978 she was vice president of the Western Pennsylvania Ladies Auxiliary. In 1990 and 1991, she was vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pennsylvania . From 1991 to 1992, she was president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, State of Pennsylvania . She was a member and past Chapeau of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Salon Departmental L'Esprit and 8/40. She had also held many chairmanships on the national level with the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star #205, Monessen. She was formerly active in the Parent-Teachers Association and the Band Parents of the Bethlehem Center school district. She helped organize the first Bethlehem Center Community Blood Bank. She was also active in numerous charitable associations. She is survived by two daughters , Charlotte Jane and her husband, Raymond Lacey, and Sue Ellen and her husband, George Bebout, both of Fredericktown (Centerville Borough); seven grandchildren, Barbara Ellen Jordan, Raymond W. Lacey, Richard Dwaine Lacey, Robert A. Lacey, W. Thomas Lacey, Michael W. Hulagne and Melissa R. Bebout; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Wayne Philp, on Feb. 6, 1997; four sisters , Jane "Jay" Matta, Margaret Elaine Dryburg, Anastasia "Ann" Dryburg and Mildred "Midge" Palmer; and a brother, Walter Dryburg Jr. Friends will be received Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main St., Route 40, Beallsville, where a brief service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., followed by an additional service at 11:30 a.m. in the Taylor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edd Myers officiating. Interment in Taylor Cemetery, West Pike Run Township. The Order of Eastern Star will hold services Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Taylor United Methodist Church, 823 Old National Pike, Brownsville, PA 15417, or the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Dept. of Pennsylvania , Scholarship Fund, P.O. Kenneth H. Quinn
Valencia

Kenneth H. Quinn, 61, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Born Jan. 27, 1939, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Marguerite Hope Quinn of Fort Myers, Fla., and the late Kenneth G. Quinn. Mr. Quinn was a Navy veteran. He was a radio control operator for Conrail at various offices. He was a member of Valencia United Methodist Church. In addition to his mother , survivors include his wife, Marilyn Frantz Quinn; a daughter, Jayne Paracca of Mars; two sons , Kenneth S. Quinn of Pittsburgh and John M. Quinn of Saxonburg; and two grandchildren. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Bruhach Quinn. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Nancy Zahn, pastor of Valencia United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton.

Helen F. Ravis

Helen F. Ravis, 71, of Youngstown, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in the Edgewood Nursing Center, Youngstown. She was born May 8, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John A. Sr. and Helen A. Hvizdos Borza. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown. She was a retired employee at the dental office of Dr. Richard Hanson and Dr. Edward Torba in Latrobe. She was also a founding member of the local chapter of the St. Vincent dePaul Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Ravis; and a sister, Margaret E. Halula. She is survived by four sons , Ronald Ravis and his wife, Diane, of Latrobe, Richard Ravis and his wife, Nancy, of Latrobe, Robert Ravis of Alexandria, Va., and Randal Ravis and his wife, Tina, of Youngstown, Pa.; a daughter, Regina Ravis of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers , John E. Borza Jr. of Latrobe and James M. Borza of Youngstown, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Emma, Roland and Raquel. Friends were received Monday and will be received Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Pa., with the Rev. Chad Ficorilli, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. A parish rosary will be recited Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Bruno Ferrari Family Cancer Center, c/o Latrobe Area Hospital, West Second Avenue, Latrobe, PA 15650.

Dorothy M. Schmucker, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Vincentian Regency Hall Nursing Home, McCandless. Born Nov. 29, 1907, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late George and Marie Ebert Yant. Survivors include a son, Thomas E. Schmucker of Reserve. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John George Schmucker. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in ROBERT D. HUGHES FUNERAL HOME, 1501 Lowrie St., North Side. Service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Reserve. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mt. Troy Road.
