Marian W. Johnston
Marian W. Johnston, 85, of Muir, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Muir, October 8, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Lyons Wagner. She was a graduate of Porter Township High School.
She was a retired clerk from the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yards.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1975; a sister, Kathryn Wagner.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Memorial services were held Monday, June 2, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, with the Rev. Arthur Sonnenberg officiating. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Muir. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald W. Hoover
Ronald W. Hoover, 60, of Halifax, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born on August 22, 1942 in Harrisburg, he was a son of Dorothy L. Sweigard Hoover of Halifax, and the late Marlin W. Hoover.
He worked as a General Supply Specialist for the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot. He was a member of Jacob's U.M. Church, Halifax. He also had memberships with Millersburg American Legion No. 326; Millersburg Gun Club; Halifax Gun Club; NRA; National Wild Turkey Federation; North American Hunt Club; Life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association; Vice President of the American Federation of Government Employees No. 1156; Government Team Member of Public-Private Competition. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served aboard the U.S.S. Shangrila.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Karen E. Savidge Hoover of Halifax; two sons, Matthew M. Hoover and Andrew K. Hoover, both of Halifax; a step-daughter, Nicole E., wife of Derrick Roadcap of Millersburg; three sisters, Nancy C. Bennett of Dover, Marilyn B. Dietrich of Wiconisco, and Peggy A. Shultz of Cannon Falls, MN; a grandson; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at his church on Saturday, May 31. Interment with full military honors was in Jacob’s U.B. cemetery, Halifax.

Walter J. Grose
Walter James Grose, 79, of Ashland, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born October 29, 1923, in Barry Twp., he was a son of the late William and Jennie Lucas Grose. He was a retired coal miner from Kocher Coal Company, Valley View.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Grose, who died in 1950; a son, Timothy, in 1977; two brothers, Arthur and Merlin Grose; and two sisters, Dorothy Yarnell, and Gertrude Karvoski.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Helen Lubold Grose; four sons, William of Hollsopple, Bradley of Fountain, Jeffrey of Pitman, and Matthew of RD Ashland; a daughter, Debra Domboski of Valley View; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Religious services were held Saturday, May 31, at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the rev. Anthony Zibolski officiating. Interment was in Church of God cemetery, Weishample. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangement.
Pauline S. Ditzler
Pauline S. Ditzler, 81, formerly of Pine Grove, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove.
Born in Pine Grove Township, November 18, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John H. and May Rehrer Lehman.
She was co-owner of Roy's Restaurant, Pine Grove, for 40 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Jacob's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E., who died on June 7, 1980; 12 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a son, Gary of Hummels Wharf; a granddaughter, Angie M. Graham of Hershey; and two great-grandsons.
Graveside services were held Thursday, May 29, at Jacob's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove, with the Rev. Debra Ernst officiating. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove was in charge of arrangements.
Henry P. Butler
Henry P. Butler, 70, of Jamestown, N.Y., died Friday, May 23, 2003, at WCA Hospital, Jamestown.
Born in Tremont, February 23, 1933, he was a son of the late James T. and Alma Zimmerman Butler. He was a graduate of Tremont High School, received a bachelor's degree in education from East Stroudsburg University and a master's degree in math and biology from Syracuse University.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as in a medic unit in Germany.
He worked for 34 years as a biology and science teacher in Southwestern Central school system, Jamestown, retiring in 1991. He was a former track and basketball coach.
He was a member of Lakewood Memorial American Legion Post 1286, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, where he was president, Pine Grove Skeet Club, Jamestown Skeet and Trap Club, Bustl N.Y. Trap Club, past president of Southwestern Central Teachers Association, was active in Boy Scouts and a former softball umpire.
Surviving are his wife, of 44 years, the former Joanne M. Palleschi; two daughters, Anne Marie Garvey of Jamestown, N.Y., and Lorraine Butler of Wellington, Fla.; two sons, Michael J. of West Ellicott, N.Y., and James of Bustl, N.Y.; two sisters, Faye Seiger of Donaldson, and Janice Vance of Tremont; and six grandchildren.
Services were held at Wednesday, May 28, from Lind Funeral Home, Jamestown, with the Rev. Eric M. Williams officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hill cemetery.
Joan D. Bonham
Joan Durbin Bonham of New York and formerly of Williamstown, died Monday, May 26, 2003, in New York.
Surviving are her children, Jeanne Hoskins, James Nolan, William Bonham and Elizabeth Moussazadeth; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services on Saturday, May 31, from the Methodist cemetery, Williamstown. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Williamstown was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Billow
Mary W. Billow, 77, of Millersburg, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Newport, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Martha Wagner Patton.
She was a member of Trinity UCC in Millersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Billow; and a sister, Mabel Berkheimer preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Darla Graff, Canda Snoke, and Wanda Gelnett, all of Millersburg; four brothers, Russell Patton of Dauphin, Roscoe Patton of Halifax, Paul Patton and Tom Patton, both of Millersburg; two sisters, Miriam Enders of Halifax, and Jane Grosser of Elizabethville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m., at the Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. Viewing will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Elva E. Weidman
Elva E. Weidman, 84, of Muir, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at her residence.
Graveside services were held Thursday, May 22, in Millbach cemetery, Newmanstown, with Pastor Herbert Hibshman, Jr., officiating. Interment was in Millbach cemetery.

Frances Eby Vogel
Frances Eby Vogel, died on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown.
Born Noreen Snyder on March 5, 1911 in Lykens, she was adopted on April 27, 1914 by John and Grace Eby.
She resided many years in Lykens and Williamstown, before moving to the Harrisburg area in 1980.
She was a graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College and taught kindergarten in the Wiconisco and Upper Dauphin Schools.
She was member of Zion Lutheran Church of Penbrook, a member of Glen Chapter No. 425 Order of Eastern Star, Lykens and the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years to Clayton R. Vogel, who died in 1985.
Surviving are a son, John C. Vogel of Harrisburg; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no viewing. A private family service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2003. Friends may call on Monday, June 2nd, at the home of her son, after 5 p.m.

Gail L. Strunk, 49, of Halifax, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at home.
Born in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late Edmond and Marjorie Wagner Dockey.
She was a clerk at the former Uni-Mart in Halifax. She was a member of Reigles Bible Fellowship in Millersburg.
Surviving are her husband, Randy L. Strunk; a daughter, Jessica Stone of Halifax; two sons, Lannie Smeltz of Halifax and Kirby Enders of Millersburg; a sister, Nancy Etzweiler of South Mountain; eight grandchildren; and a step-granddaughter.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, May 22, at Reigles Bible Fellowship.
