Victor S. Knable
Victor S. Knable, 66, of Tower City, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Fulton County, April 29, 1937, he was a son of the late Sylvester and Irene Hess Knable.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a truck driver.
Surviving are a son, John R. of Lebanon; a daughter, Linda S. Brown of Bethel; a brother, David of California; three sisters, Bertha Livering of Myerstown, Emmer Buterbaugh of Chambersburg, and Jane Hall of New York; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Rohland Funeral Home Inc., Lebanon. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville.
Donald Hackenberg
Donald "Gus" Hackenberg, 79, of Millersburg, died Thursday, June 13, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Millersburg, she was a son of the late Samuel and Faye Long Hackenberg.
He was a graduate of Millersburg High School and attended Thompson Business School. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, seeing action in Saipan, Tinian, Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima. He retired from the former TRW in Harrisburg and was a courier for Community Banks. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he attended Sunday school, sang in the choir, served on the Board of Trustees, Official Board and was financial secretary. He was a former member of VFW No. 5750 and American Legion No. 326.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Rosalie Manning Hackenberg; a son Donald A., Bordner of Millersburg; two daughters, Kathy Jenkins of New Cumberland, and Janice Sheetz of Millersburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Monday, June 16, at First U.M. Church. Interment with military honors was in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg, followed by the memorial service.

Arlene M. Carl
Arlene M. Carl, 82, of Tower City, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born in Wiconisco on November 3, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Olive Klinger.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Tower City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F., who died in 1988, and an infant son, William, Jr.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol A. Smith, and a son, Daniel L. Carl, both of Tower City; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday June 17, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., with Rev. Paul Baughman officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City R.D. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.
Allen A. Umbenhauer
Allen A. "Fat" Umbenhauer, 79, of Pine Grove, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Pine Grove, December 19, 1923, he was a son of the late Harry and Beulah Felty Umbenhauer.
He was employed as a miner at Zimmerman Coal Co., Ravine.
He played with the Irving baseball team and had a contract to play major league baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies.
He was an active member of the Pine Grove Fish & Game Club and the Orwin Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Allen A. Jr. and Robert; five brothers, Clarence "Tillie, " Luther, Randolph, Ralph and Moses; four sisters, Irma Minnich, Ruth Clements, Ferne Reinhart and Bessie Umbenhauer.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Mabel V. Zerbe; a son, Eugene "Utch" of Pine Grove area; two daughters, Lorraine Shelters and Alice Aungst, both of the Pine Grove area; two brothers, Dale "Uncle" of Pine Grove, and Guy of Schuylkill Haven; a sister, Arlene Geist of Lebanon; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Lloyd C. Trumbo Sr.
Lloyd C. Trumbo Sr., 80, of Pine Grove, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
Born in Pine Grove, September 10, 1922, he was a son of the late Robert and Norma M. Olt Trumbo.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 1811th Medical Detachment. He received the Good Conduct, American Theater Service and Victory medals.
He was employed as a miner and then as a dyer at Penn Dye, Pine Grove.
He was a member of Jacob's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, where he had been on the church council and was past president of Jacob's cemetery Board, a life member of both Pine Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3432 and Pine Grove American Legion Post 374, and a member of Pine Grove Masonic Lodge 409 F&AM.;
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Eleanor V. Donton, who died January 14, 1999; two brothers, Arlin and Clifford Trumbo; and a sister, Miriam Huber.
Surviving are a son, Lloyd C. Jr. of Pine Grove; two daughters, Diane Staller of Annville, and Karen Wertz of Indiana; a sister, Dorothy Minnich of Springdale, Ark.; a companion, Marguerite Zimmerman of Pine Grove; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William G. Shepler Sr.
William G. Shepler Sr., 80, of Donaldson, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Tremont, June 5, 1923, he was a son of the late Monroe and Minnie Rumpf Shepler.
He was an Army vet eran of World War II, serving with Cannon Company, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eeastern Theater Service Medal with four Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal.
He had been employed at Penn Dye Finishing, Pine Grove.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Clair, Bruce, Harry, Ronald, Lester, Leroy and Paul; a sister, Mae Mack; a grandson, Michael Shepler.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Lillian Yerges; a son, William G. of Pine Grove; a daughter, Carolyn Barnhardt of Donaldson; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the convenience of the family from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Frederick I. Fisher officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
Michael E. Kocher
Michael E. Kocher, 53, of Wiconisco, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Harrisburg.
Born in Harrisburg, January 30, 1950 he was a son of the late Gordon and Mildred Sites Kocher.
He was employed as a machine operator by Reiff & Nestor Co., Lykens for over 30 years. He was of the Jehovah Witness Faith; a member of Electrical Machine Workers of America, Local 135 and American Legion Post No. 124, Lykens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna K. Deibert Kocher; a son, Jason Kocher; a sister, Mary Celep; a twin brother; two infant brothers and two infant sisters.
Surviving are a companion, Anna M. Zimmerman; a son, Julian Kocher; two daughters, Leslie A. Kocher of Lykens, Michelle L. Michaels of Halifax; a brother, Harles Kocher of Lykens; three sisters, Helen Rothermel of Wiconisco, Betty White of Halifax, and Patricia Morrisette of New Cumberland; and eight granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with the Rev. Earl R. Heckman officiating. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.
Mae L. Keim
Mae Louisa Keim, 80, of Auburndale, FL., died Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Good Shepherd Hospice, Auburndale.
Born August 21, 1922, at RR 1, Herndon, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Mabel Rebuck.
Formerly of the Herndon and Mt. Carmel areas, she moved to Auburndale in 1968.
She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, Auburndale, where she was a member of the ladies auxiliary. She was a volunteer at the Macedonian Missionary Service in Polk City, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Keim, Sr., and two sons, Baby Keim, and Russell L. Keim, Sr.
Surviving are three sons, Lawrence Keim, Jr. of Dornsife; Kenneth H. Keim of Brandon, FL, and David L. Keim of Hinesville, GA; two daughters, Florence G. George of Auburndale, FL, and Lois Garman of St. Augustine, FL; a sister, Geneva Baumert of Elizabethville; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, in Auburndale, FL. Interment was in Glen Abby cemetery, Auburndale, FL.

Betty M. Forney
Betty M. Forney, 78, formerly of Lykens, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born January 13, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Beulah Troup Russel.
She retired from the former Bobbi Roger Garment Factory, Wiconisco.
She was of the Lutheran faith, and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, in 1976; two sisters, Margaret Shaw and Joy Klinger.
Surviving are two sisters, Mae Bixler of Ohio, and Helen Heintzleman of Tower City; a brother, Harry Russell of Maryland; nieces and nephews.

Sandra A. Bensinger
Sandra A. Bensinger, 56, of Williamstown, died Monday June 2, 2003, at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, MD.
Born November 25, 1946, she was a daughter of Peter and Helen Marshue of Williamstown.
She was a beautician since the age of 18, and formerly owned her own business in Williamstown.
She was a member of Scared Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Williamstown and a social member of the Williamstown American Legion No. 239.
Surviving in addition to her parents, are her husband, Lance A., to whom she would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in November; her brother-in-law, Ronald S. Bensinger of Pillow, Robert I. of Williamtown and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, June 6, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Williamstown, with Rev. Robert Panza officiating. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Williamstown.
