Floyd Maiden
Floyd C. Maiden, 90, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village.
He lived in Lenkerville and Millersburg for over 60 years.
Born in Berrysburg, he was a son of the late Frederick and Sarah Straub Maiden.
He was a member of Hebron U.M. Church, Millersburg; Susquehanna Lodge No. 364 F&AM; 25 year member of Millersburg Forest No. 125 Tall Cedars and its former scooter unit; Harrisburg Consistory A.A.S.R. and Oriental band; Zembo Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S.; Charter member and past president of Upper Dauphin Shrine Club. He was very active in the Shrine's crippled children's fund. He was past treasurer, 50 year and life member of Loyal Order of Moose No. 59 and received its Fellowship degree in 1999. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for a number of years; was a 20 year member of the Millersburg Flotilla No. 54 Coast Guard Auxiliary; was co-owner of the former Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency and the J.C. Penney Catalog Store in Millersburg. He retired from A.W. Troutman Chevrolet as a mechanic for over forty years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Maiden, and his wife, Eva Webbert.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Reed, and a son, Terry, both of Millersburg; a daughter, Bonnie Bowman Ackerman of Seminole, FL; a sister, Thelma Brower of Philadelphia; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces.
Services were held on Wednesday, June 18, at Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery Mausoleum.

Naomi Logan
Naomi Kathryn Logan, 82, of Elizabethville, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Kepler Home, Inc., Elizabethville.
Memorial interment services will be held at Ft. Indiantown Gap National cemetery on Thursday, June 26, at 1 p.m., with full military honors.

Claire Kaster
Claire L. Kaster, 74, of Williamstown, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at home.
Born in Williamstown on December 18, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Esther Rowe Stinner.
She was an English Teacher with the Williams Valley School District, having taught over 27 years, retiring in 1983. She was a graduate of the former Williamstown High School, where she was her class Valedictorian, and of Shippensburg University. She was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School; was a member of the Choir for over 50 years; was a member of the United Methodist Women and previously served on the Administrative Board. She was also a member of P.S.E.A.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Robert L.; a daughter, Annette E. Porter of Mechanicsburg; two sons, Paul R. of Towanda and Fred C. of Linglestown; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 20, from her church, with Rev. Elizabeth Whitehead officiating. Interment was in the Methodist cemetery.

Grace Etzweiler
Grace M. Etzweiler, 68, of Millersburg, died Monday, June, 23, 2003, at home.
Born in Hegins she was a daughter of the late Darwin and Verna Neumeister Smith. She was a member of David's Church in Killinger.
She and her husband Paul just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Larry and Jacob; and a sister Virginia.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter Brenda Kantner of Cressona; three sons Ken and Ron of Millersburg, and Jason of Dalmatia; five brothers Earl Klinger of Hegins, Harry Shoffler and Jack Shoffler both of Ashland, Donald Shoffler of Gratz, Terry Shoffler of Gordon; four sisters Betty Newman of Dalmatia, Eleanor Shoffler of Marion Heights, Shirley Sallada of Hegins, Joy Klinger of Valley View; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, at 3 p.m. at David's Church in Killinger. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Arthur R. Wiest
Arthur Ray Wiest, 84, of Camp Hill, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
Born in Hubley Twp., August 27, 1918, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Bertha Klinger Wiest. He was a 1936 graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School.
He was a retired electrician form the New Cumberland Army Depot, New Cumberland. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 89th Tank Battalion in the North African and Italian Campaigns, receiving five bronze stars and the French Croix De Guerre. He was a member of the Lemoyne American Legion.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Camp Hill.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Wiest; and a sister, Loretta Quentin.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Shirley D. Stiely Wiest; two sons, Douglas A. of Germany, and Roger C. of Springfield, VA; a daughter, Darla Wiest-Cooper of Kensington, MD; and a sister, Dorothy Kirkpatrick of Camp Hill.
Religious services were held Tuesday, June 17, at Zion Lutheran (Klinger’s) Church, Erdman, with the Rev. Joel Petruschke officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran (Klinger’s) cemetery, Erdman. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
Margaret K. Wertz
Margaret K. Wertz, 81, of Dalmatia, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Corwall, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Williams Sonon,
She was a member of Fearnot Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wertz.
Surviving are eight sons, David Alcala of Hershey, Gary Davenport of Georgia, Author Davenport of Pillow, Leonard Davenport of Dalmatia, Kenneth Wertz of Herndon, John Wertz, Jr., of Harrisburg, Joey Wertz of Oil City, and Ronald Wertz of Virginia; eight daughters, Donna Ellis of Vanceboro, NC, Audrey Minta of Preston, CT, Bonnie Weaver of Elizabethville, Ruth Ann Hollenbach of Elizabethville, Mildred Kohr of Wertzville, Nora Feger of Milton, Barbara Muggio of Tennessee, and Bonnie Bingaman of Harrisburg; a sister, Myrle Shatz of Mt. Joy; 30 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, June 13, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
Laura M. Snyder
Laura M. Snyder, 89, of Millersburg, died on Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born in Lykens, December 28, 1913, she was a daughter of the late John and Lottie Leitzel Straub.
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Berrysburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin A. Snyder.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. Snyder of Elizabethville and Charles L. Snyder of Millersburg; two daughters, Marian L. Marsh of DeBerry, FL, and Shirley M. Jury of Halifax; a brother, Kenneth Straub of Halifax; four sisters, Gladys Schultz of Berrysburg, Bernice Witmer of Millersburg, Charlotte Bingaman of Northumberland, and Barbara Strawser of Millersburg; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
Services were held on Monday, June 16, at her church. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery, Berrysburg.

Thomas W. Shadle
Thomas W. Shadle, 81, of Ashland, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Rest Haven Nursing Center, Schuylkill Haven.
Born in Hegins, September 23, 1921, he was a son of the late Herman and Ida Schweinhart Shadle. He was a 1942 graduate of Hegins Township High School.
He was employed as a coal miner in area mines, later retiring from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he worked as a laboratory technician for 20 years.
He was a member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, a life member of the Good Fellowship Club, Ashland, and Lavelle Fire Company and a charter member of Mount Pleasant Fire Company.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Phaon and Irvin; two sisters, Dolores Shadle and Marie Dietrich.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Geisler; a son, James of Ashland; two brothers, Roy of Ringtown, and Forrest of Lavelle; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday, June 13, at Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland, with the Rev. Robert F. Hoenich officiating. Interment was in Citizens cemetery, Lavelle. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, was in charge of arrangements.
Rosemary J. Lewert
Rosemary J. Lewert, 61, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Scranton, June 9, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary McGinty Flannery.
She worked as a caregiver at Schuylkill Nursing.
She was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Frederick G. Jr., whom she married
on August 11, 1962; two sons, Frederick G. III of Pine Grove, and Thomas J. of Cressona; a brother, Thomas Flannery of Scranton; and a grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, June 14, at St. Ambrose Church. Encryptment was in St. Ambrose cemetery mausoleum, North Manheim Township. Ebling Funeral Home, Cressona, was in charge of arrangements.
Irene M. Knerr
Irene Margaret Knerr, 92, of Pitman, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.
Born in Upper Mahantongo Twp., August 1, 1910, she was a daughter of the late George and Della Heim Harring.
She was a member of Hepler’s Church of God, Pitman; and a former member of the Mahantongo Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stuart P. Knerr, who died in 1977; three brothers, Leroy, Harry, and Frank Harring; and three sisters, Lottie Morgan, Gertie Haas, and Olive Knorr.
Surviving are a son, Ronald Knerr of Frederick MD; two daughters, Joyce Buffington of Valley View, and Pauline Snyder of Pitman; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Religious services were held Monday, June 16, at Hepler’s Church of God, Pitman, with the Rev. Andrew Weaver officiating. Interment was in Hepler’s Church of God cemetery, Pitman.
