A. Eugene Baker
Dunbar

A. Eugene Baker, 71, of Dunbar, passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Uniontown, a son of the late Harry D. and Anna Mae Moyer Baker. He was a graduate of Dunbar Township High School in 1946. He served with the 28th Infantry Division National Guard in Europe when it was activated. He was president of the Baker Machine and Welding Co. Inc. of Connellsville, where he worked virtually all his life; it was founded by his Father and uncle. He was a member of Masonic groups including King Solomon's Lodge #346 F&AM of Connellsville. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club and the B.P.O. Elks #503 of Connellsville. He was a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Dunbar. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jacquelyn Rossi Baker; a son, Terry Baker and wife, Kristin; a daughter, Susan Mahokey and husband, Dave; and three grandchildren, Christopher Baker, David Mahokey and Lauren Mahokey, all of Dunbar. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers , Harold N. Baker and James D. Baker. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a blessing service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius R.C. Church of Dunbar with the Rev. Edward McCullough and the Rev. David Liberator as concelebrants. Committal and interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery. A parish rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family requests contributions to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Aloysius Church, Dunbar.

Dorothy R. Burkhart
Cranberry,
Formerly of Bellevue and Avalon

Dorothy R. Burkhart, 85, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, Cranberry. Born Sept. 11, 1914, in Bellevue, she was the daughter of the late Samuel B. and Priscilla Thompson Burkhart. Miss Burkhart graduated from the former Bellevue Public Schools. She was a retired Consolidated Natural Gas secretary. Miss Burkhart was a member of the North Boroughs Women's Club and was active in her former church, Northminster Presbyterian Church, Bellevue. Survivors include two nieces, Ann F. Hummel of New Cumberland and Carol F. Gatewood of Evansville, Ind.; and a nephew, William L. Finnicum III of Franklin, Mich. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters , Harriet Burkhart and Priscilla Finnicum. Friends will be received from noon until services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL HOME, 529 California Ave., Avalon. Burial will be in Highwood Cemetery, North Side. Memorial contributions can be made to Cranberry Community Presbyterian Church, 2622 Rodchester Road, Cranberry Township, PA 16066.

Mary R. Cantella
Greensburg

Mary R. Cantella, 89, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in the Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born March 3, 1911, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Dominic and Josephine Salci D'Octavia. Mary had been a housekeeper at the former St. Paul Church Rectory in Greensburg's fifth ward for the Rev. Leo E. Sullivan and the Rev. Henry P. Dinicco. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral and the Women of the Moose, both in Greensburg, and the Italian Anita Garibaldi of Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Cantella, in 1979; brothers , Nick, Albert, Johnny and Tony; and a sister, Lucia "Betty" Champion. She is survived by her son, Jack R. Cantella; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Cantella, both of Greensburg; a daughter, Charlotte J. Cantella of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren, Debra Cantella Frye, John Christopher Cantella, Amy Marie Cantella, Heidi Cantella Noel, David Pankowski and Jessica Pankowski Lowther; three great-grandchildren, Sara, Melissa and Jon Frye; two sisters , Rose Broker of Sandusky, Ohio, and Pauline Pallitta of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. Relatives are invited to join the family Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, where a blessing service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township. Family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.

Alvie L. Crawford
Scottdale

Alvie L. Crawford, 89, of Homestead Avenue Extension, Scottdale, passed away early Monday morning, Aug. 7, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Alvie was born Feb. 10, 1911, in Lanesville, W.Va., a son of the late Ira Lee and Florence Bennett Crawford. Alvie was a loving Father and brother to his family, and had been a resident of Homestead Avenue Extension since the mid- 1940's. Alvie was a retired employee of the U.S. Post Office in Scottdale, where he worked as a clerk and superintendent of mails, retiring on June 1, 1973, with 33 years of service. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Calvin United Presbyterian Church in Scottdale, where he had served as elder, deacon, and superintendent of Sunday school. Alvie also was a member of the Adult Sunday school class, the Chancel Choir, and was the "Home Run King" of the church dartball team. He was a devoted member of the Scottdale Kiwanis Club, serving as past president, and a member of the Flag Display Committee. Alvie also held memberships with the Thomas Lewellan American Legion Post #240, the Brookman Hernley VFW Post #7781 and the Retired United Methodist Men's organization, all in Scottdale. He was a graduate of Scottdale High School with the Class of 1931, and a veteran of World War II, serving as a private first class in the U.S. Army's 248th Field Battalion. He was decorated with the Purple Heart after being wounded during the division campaign in Italy. He was noted for that "Crawford smile," and enjoyed camaraderie with the Tartal Breakfast Club every morning. He was dedicated to his daughter, Debbie, and took pleasure in landscaping his property, planting trees, and his weekly night of billiards with his brother, Ralph. Alvie is survived by his loving daughter, Deborah L. Crawford of Scottdale; his two brothers , Woodrow W. Crawford and wife, Ruth, of Stow, Ohio and Ralph O. Crawford and wife, Edith, of Scottdale; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Daniels Crawford, on June 13, 1995; a sister, Virginia Seaman; and a brother, Henry S. Crawford. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724-887-5300, email: rferg<\at>a1usa.net), Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, the Rev. Family suggests memorials to the Calvin United Presbyterian Church of Scottdale or the Scottdale Kiwanis Club.

Olga (Mancini) Cuteri, 72, of Kennedy Township, on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000. Proprietor of the Coraopolis Tastee Freez for 25 years. Wife of Frank R. Cuteri Sr. mother of Frank R. Cuteri Jr. and his wife, Cherie, of Virginia, Denise C. Willson and her husband, Randy, of California and Alan J. Cuteri and his wife, Debra, of Pittsburgh. Sister of Connie Hanlon of Kennedy Township and Dolcie DeNardo of Michigan. Grandmother of Danielle, Alessandra, Amelia, Clayton, Jared and Alison. Friends will be received at the ANTHONY J. SANVITO INC. FUNERAL HOME, 1316 Fourth Ave., Coraopolis, Family Owned and Operated Since 1936, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services in the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy's Church at 10 a.m.

Nancy Marie Clark Dodd
Mt. Pleasant

In God's providence, Nancy Marie "Nan" Clark Dodd, of Moore Street, Mt. Pleasant, entered into eternal life Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in her 51st year of life, at her residence. She was born March 11, 1949, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of Thelma Mae Schroyer Clark of Scottdale and the late Jesse Charles "Pete" Clark, who died Oct. 30, 1973. Nancy was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Scottdale. In addition to her mother , she leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 31 years, William James Dodd, whom she married Nov. 9, 1968; the following children, Tammy Penzera and her husband, Shawn, of White , a son, William James Dodd Jr. and his wife, Jamie, of Las Vegas, Nev., Heather Lynn Dodd of Pittsburgh and Heidi Renee Dodd of New Stanton; two grandsons, Andrew James Penzera and Shane Matthew Penzera; a brother, Charles "Jack" Clark Jr. and his wife, Catherine "Kay" (Bartock), of Scottdale; and two sisters , Patricia Mae Stoner and her husband, Patrick, of Greensburg and Marlene Bernhardt and her husband, William, of Connellsville. Nancy's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Paul B. Morris, and the Rev. Doug Burns, pastor of Paradise Methodist Church, co-officiating. Interment will follow in Greenridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.

William C. Elder
Greensburg

William C. Elder, 73, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. He was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Hempfield Township, a son of the late Alfred H. and Edith Eicher Elder. He was a retired employee of the Elliott Co. in Jeannette and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He had been a life member of the Midway-St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of both the Westmoreland County Firemen's Association and the Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association. Also he was a charter member of the Faymore Sportsmen's Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Elder; and a sister, Sarah Alcorn. Surviving are his loving wife, D. Louise (Poole) Elder; children, Edith L. Mallin and husband, Leonard, of Mt. Pleasant, John W. Elder and wife, Bonnie, of Jeannette, Theodore J. Elder and wife, Joyce, of Maryland, Joseph P. Elder and wife, Sandy, of Greensburg and Barry R. Elder and wife, Mary, of Greensburg; brothers , Joseph A. Elder and wife, Hilda, of Greensburg, Edward D. Elder and wife, Betty, of Texas , and H. David Elder and wife, Lorraine, of Greensburg; sisters , Ruth Weis and husband, Thomas, of Greensburg, Laura Seevers and husband, Robert, of California, and Patricia Ahlborn of Youngwood. Also survived by 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trauger at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kurt Kusserow officiating. EVERYONE IS TO GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH ON THURSDAY. Interment with full military honors by the South Greensburg American Legion will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. The family wishes memorial donations to the Midway-St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department. Members of the Midway-St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home for a memorial service. Terence L. Graft, funeral director, in charge of arrangements.

Jeanne W. Ellenberger
Shaler

Jeanne W. Ellenberger, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in UPMC St. Margaret, Pittsburgh. Born April 13, 1921, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Carter and Bessie Wasson. Mrs. Ellenberger was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Thomas R. Ellenberger; two sons , Thomas C. Ellenberger and Timothy R. Ellenberger; a daughter, Karen E. Lassiter; and grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in BOCK FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler, with the Rev Robert Tuttle officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Charleston, S.C.

John J. Fruecht III
Loganville, Ga.

John J. Fruecht III, 51, of Loganville, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000. He is survived by his wife, J. Gail McGrew; and a brother, Daniel Fruecht of Avalon. John was a member of MENSA, the High IQ Society and the NRA. He was also a private pilot, an avid photographer, an expert marksman and home brewer of excellent beer. John was employed by Delta Technology as a UNIX System Administrator. Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m. in Wages Oak Lawn Chapel in Georgia with Father Tom Carroll serving as celebrant. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Gilbert Gass
Hampton

Gilbert Gass, 71, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County. Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Bellevue, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Edith Orndorff Gass. Mr. Gass was an Army veteran who served overseas during the Korean War. He worked for Bell Telephone Co. for 20 years before leaving to go into the business of growing and selling sod. He later became the owner and operator of the Centerville Shoppe in Valencia, which manufactured and sold outdoor furniture and equipment. He retired from that business in January. Mr. Gass was a member of the Avalon Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Horst Gass; two daughters , Edie Coulter of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Julie Kelly of Saudi Arabia; two sons , Ken Gass of Shaler and Karl Gass of Erie; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Friends will be received from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in HERBERT R. KING JR. FUNERAL HOME, Route 8 at 2841 Woodland Circle, Hampton, where services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. John Hogue officiating. Burial will be in the Ingomar M.E. Church Cemetery.
