Wayne E. Shadle
Wayne E. Shadle, 85, formerly of Fountain, died Monday, August 18, 2003, at Gwynedd Square Center, Lansdale.

Born in Fountain, September 9, 1917, he was a son of the late Homer Allen and Carrie H. Stutzman Shadle.

He was a carpenter during most of his life. He was a member of Christ Church UCC, Fountain, where he was a former councilman, choir director, Sunday school teacher, secretary, treasurer, and elder Amertis. He was a member of the former PA Dutch Chorus; a 14-year member of the Schuylkill County Chorus; and a founder of the Fountinairs Choir of Fountain. He was a member of Valley Lodge 797 F&AM; , Valley View; the Gurdsow Lodge, Pine Grove; A Most Excellent High Priest of Chapter 221 of the Royal Arch of Masons, Valley View; the Prince of Peace Commandry 39, Ashland; and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Harrisburg. He had been active in the former Hegins Grange; the former Valley View Fire Company Band; and was a former treasurer of the Fountain Community Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Irene Shadle, who died in 1975; and two brothers, Russell and Melvin Shadle.

Surviving are a son, Ronald of St. Thomas; three daughters, Carolyn Unger of Norristown, Kaye Probst of Mechanicsburg, and Mary Insinger of Prospect Park; a sister, Gladys Stutzman of Media; a brother, Kenneth of Valley View; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 22, at Christ Church UCC, Fountain, with the Rev Claude Schach officiating. Interment was in Christ Church cemetery, Fountain.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Christ Church UCC, Fountain, or to Valley Lodge 797 F&AM; , Valley View. Miller-Berger Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Beverly E. Starnowsky
Beverly E. Starnowsky, 51, of Muir, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at her home.
Born in Lykens, October 30, 1951, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Anna Mae Nasados Steily.

She was previously a LPN at Rest Haven Nursing Home.

Surviving are her daughter, Ericka L. Hirel of Donaldson; and two granddaughters.

Services were held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment was in St. Peters cemetery, Orwin.

Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph S. Blyler
Joseph Stanford Blyler, 82, of Hegins, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.

Born in Valley View April 12, 1921, he was a son of the late John and Agnes Troutman Blyler. He was a retired self-employed farmer. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, and the Hegins and Valley View Fire Companies.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Albert, Daniel, Elmer, Archie, Ralph, and Roy Blyler; and three sisters, Grace Troup, Maude Masser, and Iva Carl.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty M. Wehry Blyler; a son, Joseph S. Blyler, Jr., of Valley View; a daughter, Nancy L. Thorton of St. Paul, Minn.; three sisters, Alma Umholtz of Sacramento, Pearl Schadel of Klingerstown, and Anna Hoffman of Gratz; and five grandchildren.

Religious services were held Thursday, August 14, at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Claude Schach officiating. Interment was in the Church of God cemetery, Hegins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, 17938. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles L. Boyer
Charles L. 'Charlie' Boyer, 76, of Pitman, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at his home.

Born August 14, 1926, in Gowen City, he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret McCracken Boyer. He was a graduate of the Shamokin High School.

He had been a former milkman for Martz Dairy, Shamokin, and was last employed as a custodian by the Tri-Valley School District, retiring in 1989.

He was decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. He attained the rank of coxswain and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS San Jacinto with the former President George H. W. Bush. While aboard the ship he was involved in a 17 month continuos combat tour and received the following medals: American Area Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with seven Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars, Japanese Occupation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation US with one Bronze Star, and the Presidential Unit Citation Philippine Islands.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman, where he had been a former church council member; and a member of the Mahantongo Fire Company, Pitman.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie C. Gahres Deitrich Boyer; three sons, Craig of Elysburg, and Richard and Gary, both of Shamokin; a daughter, Kathy Bailey of Shamokin; a step-daughter, Christal Hinkel of RR 1, Ashland; two step-sons, Thomas Hinkel of Chapel Hill, NC, and Jonathan Deitrich of Glendale, NC; a brother, Robert Boyer of Frederick, MD; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Health System Crossings Hospice Program, 21 West Independence St., Shamokin, 17872. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR !, Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

William O. Campbell
William O. Campbell, 82, of Halifax, died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at home.

He was a son of the late Orrin M. and Effie E. Hartman Campbell.

He was a lifetime member of the St. James Church, Halifax. He was a retired Diesel Mechanic for Conrail. He had memberships with the Halifax VFW; Mifflintown American Legion; Harrisburg American Legion. He was an army veteran of WWII and received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars and the WWII Victory Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iola Welker Campbell; a brother, Kenneth R. Campbell; and a sister, Anna B. Nealman.

Surviving are four brothers, Elmer R. Campbell of Shermans Dale, Gilbert M. Campbell of Thompsontown, Norman B. Campbell of Waterford, CT, and Harold J. Campbell of Shermans Dale; four sisters, Hulda M. Chronister of Enola, Stella M. Brocious of Wellsboro, Elsie I. Coble of Middletown, and Emma G. Brown of Muir, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. James Church, Halifax on Thursday, August 21, at 2 p.m. Rev .Ray Hackett will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery with the Halifax VFW providing a full military honor guard.

Viewing will be at the church on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Memorial Donations may be made to his church at, P.O. Box 576, Halifax, 17032. Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville is in charge of the arrangements.

Violet E. Deibert
Violet E. Rowe Deibert, 87, of Millersburg, formerly of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at the Susquehanna Lutheran Village.
Born June 19, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Elmer N. and Mable E. Hoke Rowe.

She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Linglestown and a life member of the Linglestown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Deibert.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis E. and Glenn E., both of Harrisburg; two daughters, Doris Zimmerman of Harrisburg and Linda Fraelich of Grantville; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, August 15, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville.
Memorial donations may be sent to her church, 1214 Crosby Street, Linglestown, 17112. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen I. Enterline
Helen I. Enterline, 98, of Lavelle, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, at the Mt. Carmel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Carmel.

Born at Pitman, March 12, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Oscar A. and Carrie Haas Troutman. She was educated in the Pitman area schools. She was a member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Enterline, who died May 8, 1982; a sister, Pearl I. Engle; and two brothers, Frank Troutman and Harry Troutman.

Surviving are a daughter, Myra Troutman of Klingerstown; a son, Edward Enterline of Leesburg; a sister, Gladys Perry of Colorado; five granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services were held from the Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland, with the Rev. Robert Hoenich officiating. Interment was in the Citizens' cemetery, Lavelle.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 16 North Fourth St., Minersville, 17954. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Edith S. Fisher
Edith S. Fisher, 83, of Pine Grove, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

Born in North Manheim Township, September 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Helen W. Mease Reed. She was a 1937 graduate of Cressona High School.

She retired as a cafeteria worker in Pine Grove Area School District.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Pine Grove, was on the pastor relations committee and member of its Willing Workers, a member of Pine Grove Senior Citizens, former member of Pocahontas, former den mother and volunteered with Home Care in Schuylkill County.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Lester, who died on January 24, 2003; and a granddaughter.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandy Zerbe and Bonita Betz, both of Pine Grove area; two sons, Wesley LeVan and Marlin LeVan, both of Pine Grove area; two sisters, Pauline Gassert and Lillian "Dolly" Gibson, both of Pine Grove area; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, from St. Paul's UM Church. The Rev. Dr. Ira Lydic will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Alberta R. Lengle
Alberta R. Lengle, 82, of Pine Grove, died Friday, August 16, 2003, at home.
Born in Pine Grove, July 8, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Samuel E. and Katherine Becker Miller.

She was a retired seamstress from Canoe Manufacturing Co., Pine Grove.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Friedensburg.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Lengle; brothers; sisters.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Hermit; a son, Harvey of Pine Grove; two daughters, Lola Fisher of Pottsville, and Susan Wenrich of Tremont; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, August 19, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Paul Buzzard officiating. Interment was in St. John's Union cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard L. Lettich
Leonard L. Lettich, 74, of Elizabethville, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.

Born March 15, 1929, he was a son of the late William and Wrela E. Stutzman Lettich.
He was a retired livestock farmer and also a retired seed salesman for Pioneer Seeds. He was a Veteran of the Army.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Downey.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Evelyn C. Matter Lettich; a son, Dennis L. Lettich of New Cumberland; a daughter, Sandra L. Lahr of Sunbury; a brother, Marvin W. Lettich of New York, NY; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, on Wednesday, August 20, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in St. Peter's "Hoffman's" Church cemetery, Lykens. Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m.

Margaret I. Ludwig
Margaret Irene Ludwig, 79, of Hegins, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.

Born in Barry Township, December 7, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Robert C. and Clara Hoch Ludwig.

She was a member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland; Weishample grange 1898; Tri-Valley Senior Citizens; and WELCA of her church.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Warcola, and Grace Ludwig.

Surviving are three sisters, Mildred Kimmel of Ashland, Marian Brennan of Hegins RD, and Leona Zerby of Frederick, MD; five nephews; and a niece.
Religious services will be held Thursday, August 20, at 11 a.m. at Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland, with the Rev. Robert Hoenich officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be St. John's (Kimmel's) cemetery, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ's United Lutheran Church, Airport Rd., Ashland, 17921.

Elsie L. McCord

Elsie L. McCord, 91, formerly of Harrisburg, died Friday, August 15, 2003, at the Palmyra Nursing Home.
Born in Williamstown, January 18, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Smith Hoffman.

She was an employee of the former Kresge's, was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church, and the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Rebekah Lodge 247, all of Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. McCord.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean M. Greco and Janet R. Breach, both of Harrisburg; a sister, Dorothy Moyer of Corinth, NY; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is in charge of arrangements.
