Henry J. Recla
Henry J. Recla, 80, of Rock, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Minersville, Oct. 12, 1924, he was a son of the late Henry A. and Mary Deponas Recla. He was raised and educated in Schuylkill Haven and lived in Rock for the past 48 years.

He worked as an independent miner.

He served with the Marines during World War II.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 38, Schuylkill Haven.

Surviving is a sister, Edith Manley, and a brother, Guy E. Recla, both of Pottsville; a nephew and three nieces.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family from James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with Deacon Jack Quirk officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Vincent De Paul cemetery No. 2, Minersville.

Elsie L. Rothermel
Elsie L. Rothermel, 86, of RR1 Dornsife, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

Born in Gratz, April 21, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Katie Hartman Scheib.

She was educated in the Gratz area schools. She was a homemaker and had been employed at the Millersburg Shoe Factory and was last employed at Spread eagle Farms, Klingerstown, until retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, where she had served as former council member for many years; she was also a member of the Rainbow Class for many years; and the Good Sam Club, Line Mountain Chapter No. 31.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Rothermel, who died in 1941; a sister, Nancy Scheib; and two brothers, Arlan and Michael Scheib.

Surviving are her husband, Nevin C. Rothermel of RR1 Dornsife; three children, Dennis of Macungie, Marlin of RR1 Dornsife, and Suzanne Snyder of Leck Kill; two sisters, Effie Troutman of RD Dornsife, and Mollie Rebuck of Gratz; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 71, Klingerstown, PA 17941. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

John W. Rupp, Sr.
John Wilbur Rupp, Sr., 78, of Halifax, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at his home.

Born in Hummelstown, Jan. 30, 1927, he was a son of the late Harry and Esther A. Alleman Rupp.

He was a member of the Word of Life Chapel, Halifax.

He was a retired Pipe fitter at Local No. 520 Harrisburg, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had memberships with the retired plumbers and plumbers and pipefitters union, local No. 520; and Halifax VFW Post No. 5750.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ray and George; and sister, Colleen Rose.

Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Kessler Rupp; two sons, John W. Rupp, Jr. and Rodney W. Kessler, both of Halifax; two brothers, Harry Rupp of Huntingdon and Roy Rupp of Halifax; four sisters, Esther Kessner of Duncannon, Betty Weber of Halifax, Irene Eyster of Halifax and Arlene Weiss of Millersburg; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Religious Service were held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Word of Life Chapel, Halifax, with the Rev. Robert A. Baer officiating. Interment with Military Honor Guard was at Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

Donations may be made to Word of Life Chapel, 27 Fellowship Drive, Halifax, PA 17032, or the American Cancer Society, Capital Region Unit, 3211 N. Front Street, Suite No. 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. Shaffer
Helen Marie Shaffer, 86, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Millersburg, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born in Lykens, July 28, 1919, she was a daughter of the late James Francis McCormick and Kathryn S. Platzer McCormick.

She was a 1937 graduate of the former St. Mary's High School, Lykens, and a retired foreprerson from Puritan Fashions, Millersburg. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Millersburg and a member of the VFW Auxiliary No. 5507, Millersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shaffer, who died in June, 1985.

Surviving are daughter, Louise Middaugh of Carlisle; a brother, Vincent McCormick of Lykens; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Reinhard Funeral Home, where Rosary Service will be held at 10 a.m. with Fr. Darius Moss. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, with Rev. Fr. Darius Moss officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

Memorial donations may be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Zimmerman Road, Millersburg, PA 17061. Reinhard Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements.

Freda L. Shadle Smith
Freda Lorraine Shadle Smith, 77, of Kingwood, TX, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital, Houston, TX, of complications from Wegener's Disease.

Born in Hegins, Aug. 5, 1928, she was a daughter of the late John S. and Lavada M. Klinger Shadle.
She was a 1946 graduate of the former Hegins Township High School and received her secretarial diploma from Central Pennsylvania Business College.

She was a secretary at several locations, including Tri-Valley High School, Hegins, and Beauty-Pleat, La Habra, Calif. She was co-owner of CWI, Houston, TX.

She was very active in the Rotary and held several positions within the organization.

She was a child care provider at Kingwood Country Club and in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sydney Gibbs and Melvin S. Smith; and a brother, Roger Shadle.

Surviving are her five children, Carol Green of Dillsburg, Brenda Gray of Huntsville, TX, Bryan Wedde of Landrum, SC, and Lori Benham and John Gibbs, both of Kingwood, TX; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 27, at Christ United Church of Christ, Fountain, with the Rev. Claude Schach officiating. Interment was in Fountain Community cemetery, Fountain. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Orpha O. Winger
Orpha O. Winger, 91, of Millersburg, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Upper Paxton Twp., Nov. 14, 1913, she was a daughter of the late James and Saddie Brubaker Keefer.

She was a retired seamstress from the former Big Yank Clothing, Millersburg. She was a member of Free Grace Brethren in Christ Church, Millersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley H. Winger, Sr., who died March 7, 1999; and by a son, Dwight.

Surviving are a daughter, Louise A. Stence of Millersburg; two sons, Stanley H. Winger, Jr. of Fort Mills, SC, and Garth Winger of Lykens; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Religious services were held Monday, Aug. 29, at Free Grace Brethren in Christ Church, Millersburg, with the Rev. Edwin R. Kessler officiating. Interment was in Brethren in Christ cemetery, Millersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Giddeons International, PO Box 62, Millersburg, PA 17061. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

Donald L. Wise
Donald L. Wise, 81, of Tremont, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Tremont.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Jacob's Kimmerlings Church, Lebanon. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at St. Jacob's Kimmerlings Church, Lebanon.

Betty I. Wynn
Betty Irene Wynn, 75, of Tremont, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at her daughter's residence in Tower City.
Born in Tremont, Jan. 1, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Helen Bohr Brown.

She retired in 1991 after 25 and a half years of service at the former Tremont National Bank, later the Community Bank in Tremont.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Tremont, where she served 16 years on the church council, was the church treasurer for 12 years, was active in the church's Women's Circle and was responsible for the Sunday School Christmas program for many years.

She had been a Girl Scout Leader in Tremont for 13 years. She was a past president for the former Tremont Women's Club. She was a past matron of Swatara Chapter 294 O.E.S. and she served as its secretary for 22 years.

She was a member of Tremont Area Senior Citizens and served as club treasurer for the last 13 years. She was a past mother advisor of Swatara Assembly 2 Rainbow Girls. She also assisted in organizing the assembly and was the First Mother Advisor and served on the advisory board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Wynn, in 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Rebuck of Tower City, and Christine Wynn of Hegins; a son, William Wynn of Susquehanna; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 27, from Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, with the Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Tremont. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, was in charge of arrangements.

Beulah M. Zimmerman
Beulah M. Zimmerman, 95, formerly of Pine Grove, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, in Manor Care Healthcare, Lebanon.

Born in Pine Grove, April 17, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Henry L. and Eliza Bohr Felty.

She was a member of Outwood Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, and had been a foster mother for scores of children.

She was employed as a seamstress for many years at the former Summit Station Mfg., Pine Grove, and several other factories. She was also a lifetime farmer.

She was a volunteer for Palmyra Senior Citizen Center and had been a former member of Pine Grove Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phaon R. Zimmerman, on Sept. 3, 1972; two daughters, Shirley and Jane. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Surviving are four daughters, Marie Kase of Winter Haven, FL, Dawn Stickler of Lebanon, Kay Dimmick of Jonestown, and Sandra Wagner of Lebanon; two sons, Phaon R. Jr. Zimmerman of Fredericksburg, and Leon J. Zimmerman of Lebanon; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 30, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Gregory Bileck officiating. Interment was in Outwood Lutheran cemetery, Outwood Road, Pine Grove.

Donations may be made to Outwood Lutheran Church Building Fund, c/o Henry F. Snyder, 706 Oak Grove Road, Pine Grove, PA 17963, in her memory. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Earl R. Adams
The Rev. Earl R. Adams, 61, of Barre, VT, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at his home.
Born in Dayton, April 14, 1944, he was a son of the late William M. and Verna E. Shiley Adams.

He was raised in Williamstown, and graduated from Williams Valley Joint High School in 1963. He graduated from Northeast Bible Institute in Green Lane, PA, in 1970, where he was a member of the Evangelaire Concert Choir.

He served as interim pastor at Silver Lake Chapel, Barnard and pastored five Assembly of God Churches, Springfield, where he had been president of the Springfield Ministerial Association, Lincoln, Webster, MA, Bellows Falls and Thomaston, Maine, where he was youth pastor. He worked as a film technician for Capitol City Press in Berlin for 20 years. He attended the Christian Alliance Church of Barre, VT, for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, William, and James Adams.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Sandra Adams; a son, Todd W. Adams, of Barre, VT; a daughter, Wendy J. Adams of Plainfield; four brothers, Clyde Adams of Williamstown, Russelll Adams of Pennsylvania, Charles and Arthur Adams, both of Ohio; and three sisters, Ethel Rabuck of Tower City, Martha Nelson of Orwin, and Ruth Miller of Williamstown.

Funeral services were held Monday Aug. 15, at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel, Randolph, VT. Interment was in the Mountain View cemetery, Braintree, VT. The Day Funeral Home, Randolph, VT, was in charge of arrangements.
