William R. Schwalm
William R. Schwalm, 74, of Hatboro, died Monday, December 1, 2003.

Born in Valley View, he was a son of the late William H. and Meda M. Schwalm.

He was employed by Reading Railroad, Conrail and SEPTA, retiring after 37 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason; a member of the W.R. Bray Lodge of Hatboro No. 410 F&AM; the Lehigh Consistory Valley of Allentown; and survived as the past President of Fulmor Heights Home Ownership Association.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorraine Schwalm, Helen Hauck and Anice Klouser; a brother, Leon Schwalm; and a granddaughter, Jessica Schwalm.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ella Mae Strohecker Schwalm; four children, Debra Nickels, Wendy Morgan, William R., Jr., and Richard G.; a brother, Bruce Schwalm; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, December 6, in the Schneider Funeral Home, Hatboro. Interment was in Pine Grove Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Office of Donor Services, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605.

Robert A. Spirko
Robert A. Spirko, 53, of Pine Grove, died Friday, December 5, 2003, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

Born in Pottsville, April 26, 1950, he was a son of the late Michael and Juanita Abels Spirko. He was a 1968 graduate of Nativity BVM High School.

He was a head receiver at Manorwood Homes, Pine Grove.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Julian Spirko.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, the former Joann W. Love; a son, Bob of Schuylkill Haven; a daughter, Rocklyn Kelley of Friedensburg; two brothers, Alvin of Auburn, and Michael of Orwigsburg; a sister, Juanita Sagusky of Schuylkill Haven; five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 13, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove. The Rev. Randy Wingle will officiate. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is handling arrangements.

Lillie E. Stump
Lillie E. Stump, 93, of Pine Grove, died Monday, December 1, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.

Born in Ravine, May 12, 1910, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Gertrude Zimmerman Leffler.

She retired as a presser at the former Fox-Knapp Manufacturing, Pine Grove.

She was a member of Salem Hetzel's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, and Pine Grove Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin B., who died on October 6, 1985.

Surviving are two sisters, Pauline Dissinger and Dorothy Behney, both of Pine Grove; and a brother, Raymond Leffler, Pine Grove.

Services were held Thursday, December 4, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. William A. Pifer-Foote officiating. Interment was in Hetzel's cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Lusetta R. Zerbe
Lusetta R. Zerbe, 98, of Zerbe, died Thursday, December 4, 2003, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.

Born in Washington Twp., January 31, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Sarah Leanda Bretz Zerbe.

She was a member of Salem Hetzel's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, and the former Tremont Women's Club. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and was a former organist at St. John's United Church of Christ, Zerbe. Along with her husband she was owner of the former T. W. Zerbe Civil and Mining Engineering, Zerbe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore W. Zerbe, who died in 1966; an infant son, Isaac; three sisters, Mabel Frank, Helen Koehner Donofrio, and Catherine Bachman Williard; eight brothers, Edward, Elwood, Harvey, J. Frank, George, Amos, Oscar, and Thomas Zerbe.

Surviving are nieces, nephews; grand nieces and nephews; and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 8, at Salem Hetzel's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, with the Rev. William Peiferfoote officiating. Interment was in Salem Hetzel's cemetery, Pine Grove.

Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Salem Hetzel's United Church of Christ, 597 Birds Hill Road, Pine Grove, PA 17963. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, was in charge of arrangements.

Wallace G. Zacker
Wallace "Vats, George" Joseph Zacker, 87, of Westville Grove, N.J., died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at the home of his son and daughter in law David and Kathryn Zacker in Millersville, Md.
Born September 28, 1916, in Kulpmont, he was a son of the late Felix and Anna Reppi Zacker.

He and his brother operated a coal breaker near Shamokin, and hauled coal to Baltimore and New Jersey.

He was a Sgt Tech 4, radio technician in the Army during World War II, serving in the 2nd Armored Division, the 14th Armored Field Artillery, H.Q. Battery. He served in combat from 1942 to 1945 in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge.

He was employed as an Electronics Technician for RCA of Camden, N.J.; and for 30 years at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.

He attended Blessed Hope Community Church of Westville Grove, N.J. for many years, and was a student of the bible.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Esther V. Huntzinger of Hegins; seven brothers Louis, Walter, Anthony, Frank, Stanley, Edward, and Joseph Zacker and by a sister Mary Kraft.

Surviving are a son David Zacker of Millersville, Md; a daughter, Judith Howell of Punta Gorda, Fl; and two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 2, at St. John's United Methodist Church, Hegins, with the Rev. William Danis officiating. Interment was in St. John's cemetery, Hegins.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Jay T. Wolfe
Jay T. Wolfe, 67, of Elizabethville, died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.

Born on January 18, 1936 in Washington Township, he was a son of the late Clarence J. and Emalia Williams Wolfe.
He worked for Metal Industries, Elizabethville.

He was a member of the Crossroads of Life Apostolic Church, Elizabethville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wolfe and a sister Clara Wertz.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce I. Moyer Wolfe, at home; a son, Kris A. Wolfe of Lykens; three sisters, Anna Whitcomb of Elizabethville, Mae Kessler of Millersburg, Mary Shumaker of Bainbridge; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sunday November 30, at Crossroads of Life Apostolic Church, Elizabethville, R.D. Interment was private, at the family's convenience.

Memorial Donations may be made to the church at Rakers Mill Road, Elizabethville, PA, 17023.

Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Clair N. Westover
Clair Nathan Westover, 87, of Marienville, formerly of Sacramento, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the Kane Community Hospital, Kane, PA.
Born in Westover, Clearfield County, June 19, 1916, he was a son of the late Emory G. and Leah M Keirn Westover.

He served in World War II as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He retired as a maintenance employee for the Municipality of East Windsor, Hightstown, N.J.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years May B. Beck Westover of Marienville; a sister Bernice Simmons of Nampa, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the McDonald Funeral Home, Marienville, Saturday, November 29, with the Rev. Dennis OBrien officiating.

Interment was made at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville, Pa. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, Pa, was in charge of arrangements.

Brian D. Walk
Brian D. Walk, 50, of Ashland, formerly of Akron, Ohio, died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at his home.
Born in Akron, September 30, 1953, he was a son of the late Homer and Eleanor Drain Walk. He was a 1972 graduate of Springfield High School, Springfield, Ohio.

He was a construction millwright worker and was employed by the Morris Kreitz and Son Construction Co., Wyomissing.

He was of the Protestant faith, and a member of the Carpenter/Millwright Union, Local 76, Hazleton; the Mogadore Moose Lodge 1082, Mogadore, Ohio; Ashland Lodge 294, F&AM; , Ashland; Griscom Royal Arch, Chapter 219, Ashland; the Scottish Rite Temple 32nd Degree, Bloomsburg; and the Lavelle Fire Company.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda M. Allen.

Surviving are his wife, the former Vicky L. Dengler, whom he married on June 28, 1995; a son, Matthew, Uniontown, Ohio; a step-son, Brent S. Smith of RD Hegins; a step-daughter, Monica Y. Masser of Hegins; a brother, Charles of Fort Myers, Fla.; two step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 4, at Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland. The Rev. Robert F. Hoenich will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Hillside Memorial cemetery, Akron.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 16 North Fourth St., Minersville, PA 17954. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR1 Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Earl A. Troup
Rev. Earl Albert Troup of Chambersburg, formerly of various small towns of Central PA, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the Shook Home.
Born on June 15, 1916 in Steelton, he was a son of the late Albert Earl Troup and Mary Elizabeth Waganbaugh Troup Morrison.

For 33 years, he ministered to Evangelical Congregational Churches in the following Central PA towns; Fishing Creek, Friedensburg, East Weisport, Wiconisco, Mahanoy City, Danielsville, Berlinsville, Berrysburg, Gratz, Pillow, Dauphin, Mount Joy, Creswell, Conestoga, Kinderhook, and in retirement Herndon and Mandata. Concurrently for many years he also served as Statistician and Treasurer for the EC Conference. He also served the Canyon Falls EC Church in Beattyville, KY for several years. Since 1981, he has been a member of Good Shepherd (formerly Simeon's) EC Church, Gratz, and recently has been a regular attendee of Mount Pleasant United Brethren in Christ Church, Scotland.

He had a great affinity for model trains and woodworking. His wooden toys were instrumental in financing construction of several mission churches in Honduras.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Anna Alice Bean Troup; his step-father Rev. Clyde Emerson Morrison; and an infant son, John Emerson Troup.

He is survived by five children, Mary Ellen Hain and Mark Earl Troup, both of Chambersburg, Martha Anderson of Moweaqua, IL, Miriam Patten of Middletown, and Michael Troup of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at Good Shepherd, Gratz, on Friday, November 28, and at Bunker Hill on Saturday, November 29. Internment was at Bunker Hill EC Church cemetery.

Memorial contributions be made to Good Shepherd EC Church, Gratz or Bunker Hill EC Church, c/o Henry Kern, 2192 State Route 72, Lebanon. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

John C. Stence
John C. Stence, 79, of Millersburg, died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born July 13, 1924 in Upper Paxton, PA, he was a son of the late Fred and Emma Aucher Stence.

He was in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II; was Custodian for Millersburg Area High School, Millersburg, for over 15 years, retiring in 1985; and a member of Free Grace Brethren in Christ Church, Millersburg.

Surviving are his wife, Grace H. Stence; three sons, Lester and Steven Stence, both of Millersburg, and Rick Stence of Manheim; a daughter, Amanda Schreiber of Millersburg; two brothers, Frank Stence of Harrisburg and Leonard Stence of the country of Peru; seven grandchildren; and four great-grand-children.

Religious service will be held at Free Grace Brethren in Christ Church, Millersburg at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, with Rev. Edwin R. Kessler, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in Free Grace Brethren in Christ cemetery, Millersburg. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Donations may be made to the American Legion Post No. 326, 526 North Market Street, Millersburg, PA 17061.
