John D. Griffith
John D. Griffith, 79, of Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, formerly of Lykens, died recently in at Harrisburg Hospital.

He was a retired employee of the Lykens Borough and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of Liberty Hose Co. No. 2 for many years; the Dauphin County Firemen's Association; and Reliance Hose Co. No. 1, Elizabethville.

Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, December 20, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens. Liberty Hose Co. services will be held at 10:45 a.m. followed by memorial services at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith J. Schmuck officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco.

Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hose Co. No. 2, 553 South Second St., Lykens, PA 17048. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, is handling arrangements.

Harvey R. Harner, Sr.
Harvey Ruffas Harner, Sr., 80, formerly of Hegins, died Monday, December 8, 2003, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.

Born in Fearnot, January 1, 1923, he was a son of the late John T. and Estella Edna Harner.

He was a retired coal miner from Harner Coal Company, Valley View.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Morris, Roy, Boyd, and John Harner; and two sisters, Maudie Harner and Dorothy Weist.

Surviving are a son, Harvey R. Harner, Jr. of Hegins; three daughters, Judy Lucas of Goodspring, Lillie Lucas of Hegins, and Carol Miller of Hamilton, Montana; two sisters, Emma Reightter of Hegins, and Jennie Carl of RD Herndon; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Religious services were held on Saturday, December 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Tremont, with Elder Lamar Schwartz officiating. Interment was in the Muir Methodist cemetery, Muir. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Juanita L. Strauser
Juanita L. Strauser, 85, of Halifax, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born December 7, 1918 in York County, she was a daughter of the late William B. and Emma R. Vandling Eckerd.

She was a member of the Armstrong Valley Bible Church, Halifax.
She was preceded in death by a brother William Eckerd.

Surviving are her husband, Cletus L. Strauser, at home; two sons, Donald L. Strauser of Halifax, and Cletus L. Strauser Jr. of Dalmatia; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services were held on Friday, December 12, at Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville, with the Rev. Eric Yingst officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.

Memorial Donations may be made to her church building fund at 241 Armstrong Valley Road, Halifax, PA 17032. Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Eva M. Wambaugh
Eva M. Wambaugh, 88, formerly of Pine Grove, died Friday, December 12, 2003, at Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra.

Born in Swopes Valley, Pine Grove, February 1, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Molly Sattizahn Wolfe.

She had been employed as a seamstress at the former Hess' Manufacturing and the former Fox Knapp Manufacturing, Pine Grove.

She was a lifetime member of Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, Pine Grove.

She was preceded in death were her first husband, Raymond Neidlinger, in 1940; her second husband, Harold C. Wambaugh, in 1990; six brothers, Samuel, Mark, Paul E. Sr., Daniel, Walter and Adam Wolfe; two sisters, Mary Brown and Edna Wolfe; a grandson, Stewart Zerbe.

Surviving are two daughters, Helen Zerbe of Pine Grove, and Thelma Keeney of Bethel; three brothers, Robert, Joseph and David Wolfe, all of the Pine Grove area; two sisters, Martha Kutz and Molly Daubert, both of the Pine Grove area; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, in the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Calvin Roop and the Rev. Norman Yeater will officiate. Interment will be in Swopes Valley House cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur "Chick" Warfel
Arthur "Chick" Warfel, 80, of Halifax, died Sunday, December 14, 2003, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.

Born on September 5, 1923 in Jackson Twp, he was a son of the late Arthur C. and Olive Lubold Warfel.

He was a retired fork lift operator for the New Cumberland Army Depot. He was a member of St. Peter's "Fetterhoffs" Lutheran Church, Halifax. He had a life membership with the Dauphin County Volunteer Firemans Assoc. and Memberships with the Halifax VFW No. 5750 where he served on the Military Honor Guard; Halifax Fire Co. and a former Captain of the Halifax Fire Police.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred E. Reed Warfel; three brothers, Sherwood, Richard and E. Amos; two sisters, L. May and Faye. Surviving are a brother, Wilmer W. Warfel of Williamsport; two sisters, Mary E. Shoop and Gertie M. Bechtel, both of Halifax; neices and nephews.

Services will be held a Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Millersburg on Thursday, December 18, at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Fairview "Enders" cemetery, Enders. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7-9 and on Thursday morning from 9 to 10.

Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Fire Dept. 22 South River Road, Halifax, PA 17032.

Mary S. Wetzel
Mary S. Wetzel, 89, of Pine Grove, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital, Reading.

Born in Washington Township, May 15, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Sarah Matilda Miller Schwartz.

She was a retired seamstress for the former Summit Station Manufacturing, Pine Grove.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, its Willing Workers, Pine Grove Senior Citizens, Roedersville Game and Fish Association, Pine Grove Republican Club, North End Fire Company, social member of Pine Grove VFW and Pine Grove American Legion posts, and a former member of Hose, Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 and its auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis V. Strouphauer; her second husband, Jack Wetzel; a son, Eugene Strouphauer; three sisters, Hilda Schwartz, Amy Stump and Anna Goody; five brothers, Raymond, John, Albert, George and Clarence Schwartz.

Surviving are a sister, Verna Schwartz of Pine Grove; three grandsons, Scott, Glen and Eugene M. Strouphauer, all of Pine Grove; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter.

Services were held Friday, December 12, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Schoenleber officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Doris J. Zerbe
Doris J. Zerbe, 79, formerly of Tower City, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Tower City, June 5, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Lemke.

She was of the Lutheran faith and a graduate of the former Porter Tower High School, Class of 1942.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. in 1993 and a daughter, Judith Osman in 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Crystal A. Zerbe; a grandson, Shane W. Osman; and a granddaughter, Hailey M. Snyder, all of Tower City.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 15, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City R.D. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn M. Collins
Evelyn M. Collins, 85, of Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Tamaqua, died Monday, December 8, 2003, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Tamaqua, November 14, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth McGinn Collins. She was a lifelong resident of Tamaqua before her stay at the center.

She was retired, having worked on the blasting cap line at Atlas Powder Co., Reynolds.

She was a member of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, Tamaqua.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Charlotte Kurland.

Surviving are a brother, Daniel Collins, Tamaqua; two sisters, Marion M. Ritter, Tamaqua, and Elizabeth Peych, Allentown; many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. The Rev. William Campion, pastor of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Jerome Roman Catholic cemetery, Tamaqua. E. Franklin Griffiths and Robert C. Reeser Funeral Home Inc., Tamaqua, is in charge of arrangements.

William H. Culbert
William H. Culbert, 91, of Pine Grove, died Friday, December 5, 2003, at home.

Born in Pine Grove Township, November 14, 1912, he was a son of the late Wilson Lyman and Bertha May Sattizahn Lengle.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 249th Army Air Force Base Unit. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He had been employed on the cutting floor of the former Fox-Knapp Manufacturing, Pine Grove.

He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and American Legion Post 374, both of Pine Grove.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Troy Spittler; a brother, Clay Lengle; a sister, Dorothy Frantz.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Margaret Lehman; a son, William of Pine Grove; a daughter, Mary Jane Spittler of Pine Grove; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, December 9, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. John P. Hassler officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was inn charge of arrangements.

Dolly S. Donton
Dolly S. Donton, 77, of Orwin, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, at a son's home in Tower City.

Born in Tower City, June 29, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Annie Rabuck Deibler.

She was a retired seamstress of the Garment Factory and also worked in the cafeteria in the Williams Valley School District.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a member of Williams Valley Senior Citizens and member and past president of Tower City Senior Center.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Fred R. Sr.; two sons, Fred R. Jr. of Tower City, and Michael T. of Dauphin; a daughter, Kathryn J. Daub of Tower City; a brother, John Deibler of Shiremanstown; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 26, at St. Peter's cemetery, Orwin, with the Rev. Paul Baughman officiating. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Donna L. Ford
Donna L. Ford, 60, of Camp Hill, died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at the Manor Care Health Services, Camp Hill.

Born in Williamstown, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth Snyder Keen.

Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a sterile processing technician at the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, where she was employed for 21 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Leeann Ford of Oberlin; two aunts, Ellen Hare of Etters, and Nancy Lowry of Elizabethtown; and a cousin, Andy Snyder of Camp Hill.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 4, from the Neill Funeral Home, Inc., 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill. Interment was in the East Harrisburg cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Scleroderma Foundation, 12 Kent Way, Suite 101, Byfield, Maine 01922.

Thomas L. Grubb, Sr.
Thomas L. Grubb, Sr., 37, of Halifax, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at home.

Born April 12, 1966, in Harrisburg, he was a son of Patricia A. Johnson Coyer of Lewisberry and the late Barry L. Grubb, Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, Thomas L. "T.J." Grubb, Jr. of Halifax, Kyle R. Grubb of Summerdale and Michael R. Grubb of Halifax; a brother, Barry L. Grubb, Jr. of Duncannon; a sister, Michelle R. Brennan of New Cumberland; and a step-father, Howard A. Coyer of Lewisberry.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 6, in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.

Memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Capital Region Division, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, was in charge of arrangements.
