HELEN SAURBAUGH
Helen Saurbaugh, 85, of Latrobe, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. She was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Braddock, Pa., a daughter of the late John Polasko Sr. and Marie Golmic Polasko. She was a retired employee of Gabler's Shore Crab House in Maryland and was a member of the Latrobe Golden Age Group and the St. Vincent's Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ellwood Saurbaugh; a brother, Andrew Polasko; a sister, Ann Polasko; and a great-granddaughter, Erin Leigh McIntire. She is survived by her children, Elaine McIntire and husband, Leland, of Delmont, M. Victoria Guenther and husband, Ron, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jan W. Saurbaugh and wife, Anne, of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, John Palmer Jr. and wife, Mildred, of Sarasota, Fla.; and sisters , Mary Marton of Monroeville, Elizabeth Viggiano and husband, Ralph, of Monroeville, and Margaret Polascak and husband, George, of Forest Hills; grandchildren, Pam Fazio and husband, Craig, of New Kensington, Keith W. McIntire and wife, Michele, of Shaler, Eric B. McIntire of Greensburg, Diane M. Blevins and John Ellwood Saurbaugh, both of Baltimore, Md.; great-grandchildren, Brandy and Nathan McIntire and Cara Fazio; and a special friend, Ida Spillars. There will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to a service Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 Fairfield Drive, Greensburg, with the Rev. David H. Clemente officiating. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington , D.C. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to either the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Westmoreland Hospice, 532 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg.
GARY F. SELWAY
Gary F. Selway, 57, of Greensburg, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Shamrock, Texas . He was born May 5, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Calvin Albert Selway and June Aleta Thompson Selway McMaster. He was a graduate of Duquesne University. He was an attorney in Greensburg and was a member of the Westmoreland Bar Association, and had served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Surviving is his wife, Lynn D. Selway, and children, Cassidy Selway of Greensburg, Brian Selway and wife Kris of Bowie, Md.; a brother, William McMaster of Jeannette; a sister, Jackie Kunkleman of McKeesport. Also survived by granddaughter Bryanna; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. WILLIAM J. HASSAN
William J. Hassan, 67, of Latrobe, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born Aug. 30, 1932, in DuBois, he was the son of Nellie L. Aaron Hassan Wilson of DuBois and the late Guy W. Hassan. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Westinghouse. He was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa J. Kinkead Hassan; and stepfather, Paul Wilson. In addition to his mother , he is survived by a son, William M. Hassan and his wife, Ann, of Pittsburgh; three daughters , Lisa DeStefano and her husband, Mark, Nancy M. Hassan and Karen L. Hassan, all of Latrobe; a sister, Maureen Sayers of DuBois; three grandchildren, Connor Hassan, Mary Hassan and Hugh Hassan; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. DOLORES J. HAUSER
Dolores J. Hauser, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at her residence. She was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Kecksburg, a daughter of the late George Frederick and Sarah Porterfield Betker. Dolores was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church and was previously employed by McDonald's of Mt. Pleasant. She was a homemaker and the loving mother of Robert Hauser and wife, Karen, of Tarrs, James Hauser and wife, Nicole, of Mt. Pleasant, Darlene Owen and husband, Victor, of Tarrs, and Roxanne Sanners and husband, Rick, of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Robert and wife, Angela, Michael, Jennifer, Casie and Jesse Hauser, Jason and Holly Owen, Edward and Susan Sanners; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Johnathan and Jade; four brothers , Fred Betker and wife, Shirley, of Confluence, David Betker and wife, Flora, of Scottdale, Raymond Betker and wife, Rose, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Gene Thomas and his wife, Ellie, of Leisenring; and two sisters , Melva Lytle of Confluence and Freda Potoka of Tarrs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd F. Hauser, in 1998; a son, Darrel Hauser; and two brothers , Earl Robert Betker and John Donald Betker. Margaret Mae Helms, 88, of South Connellsville, died Friday, March 10, 2000, in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. JOHN KOWALCHUCK
John Kowalchuck, 84, of Greensburg, died Friday, March 10, 2000, in the Oak Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Greensburg. He was born Aug. 11, 1915, in West Newton, a son of the late George and Julia Getchey Kowalchuck. Prior to retirement, he had been a baker for 32 years at Schaller's Bakery, Greensburg. John was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church, Greensburg, a life member of American Legion Post 981, South Greensburg, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, one of the survivors of the Bataan Death March in Corregidor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence M. Zimmerman Kowalchuck, on June 23, 1991; and a brother, Michael Kowalchuck. He is survived by two brothers , Charles Kowalchuck and Paul and his wife, Anna Kowalchuck, and three sisters , Stella Markle, Mary Urinsco and Pauline and her husband, Melvin Maleski, all of West Newton; and several nieces and nephews. RUTH E. (SNYDER) MURRAY
Ruth E. (Snyder) Murray, 88, of Ruffsdale RR3, formerly of Hempfield Township, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va. She was born June 25, 1911, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a daughter of the late Jacob and Jennie (Dillon) Snyder. She was a member of the St. John Harrold United Church of Christ, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Murray; a son, Paul H. Murray Jr.; a daughter, Dorothy Altman; and a brother, James Snyder. She is survived by a son, James E. Murray and wife, Edith, of Ruffsdale RR3; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Eleanor) Swadley of Harrisonburg, Va.; 21 grandchildren, including Judy Murray, whom she raised; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David Snyder of United; two sisters , Mary Ledden of Mt. Pleasant and Olive Trout of Youngwood; and many nieces and nephews. SONYA K. (RUSH) RUPERT
Sonya K. (Rush) Rupert, 48, of Greensburg, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in the UPMC Shadyside. She was born April 16, 1951, in Fairmont, W.Va., a daughter of Ruth Alberta Williams Rush of Greensburg and the late Albert D. "Bud" Rush, who died Oct. 19, 1999. She had been employed as an executive secretary for Allegheny Energy, Greensburg, with 31 years of service. She was Protestant by faith and a member of the Y-Me Support Group for Breast Cancer Patients. In addition to her Father , she was preceded in death by her Father -in-law, Bruce W. Rupert. In addition to her mother , she is survived by her husband, Raymond B. Rupert; her son, Todd A. Rupert of Greensburg; a brother, Larry L. and his wife, Lana Rush, of Galesburg, Ill.; a sister, Tana D. and her husband, Robert Butler, of Irwin; her mother -in-law, Gladys Ann Rupert of Export; three nieces; and a nephew. ELIZABETH M. SHOLES
Elizabeth M. Sholes, 89, of Greensburg, died Friday, March 10, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Jan. 2, 1911, in Greensburg. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a teacher in the Greensburg Salem School District. She was a graduate of Seton Hill College and attended Columbia University. She was a member of the Greensburg College Club, the Greensburg Art Club and the Southwest Therapy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Martha M. Morgan; and her husband, Capt. John E. Sholes. She is survived by a son, John M. Sholes and his wife, Judy, of Gaithersburg, Md.; and two grandchildren, Tracy and Jeffrey Sholes. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time services will be held with the Rev. Stephen LaSor officiating. Private interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery. MARIAN FEY VIDMER
Marian Fey Vidmer, 88, of Hempfield Township, died Friday, March 10, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born April 4, 1911, in Duquesne, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Ann Fey. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a home economics teacher in the Duquesne and Port Vue Middle Schools. She was also a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral of Greensburg, a former den mother for the Cub Scouts, and a former football mother for Hempfield High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milam Vidmer. She is survived by two sons , Richard Fey Vidmer of Hempfield Township and Gary Charles Vidmer of Madison, Conn.; a daughter, Sarah Vandevisse of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren; two sisters , Ann Shelley of Orlando, Fla., and Ursula Kerins of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, John Fey of Bethel Park; and numerous nieces and nephews. MILES ANGELO
Miles "Mousie" Angelo, 80, of Ruffsdale, died Monday, March 13, 2000, in the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Lake Lynn, Pa., a son of the late Giacondo and Phillamenia (Coletti) Angelo. Miles "Mousie" was the owner and operator of Angelo Cigarette Service in Smithton for 45 years. Miles "Mousie" was also a charter member of the B.P.O.E. 777 Elks of Scottdale, a charter member of the Smithton Lions Club, and also a longtime member of both the Smithton Volunteer Fire Department, and the Marconi Club in Smithton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane (Higby) Angelo; a brother, Otto Angelo; and three sisters , Elizabeth Cordi, Mary Paglairi, and Gilda Verdi. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Odelli) Angelo; a son, James Miles Angelo of Belle Vernon; stepson, Terrance R. Odelli and his wife, Debbie, of Smithton; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Judith) May of Sutersville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jack (Marlene) Fabean of Smithton; a brother, Anthony Angelo of Buena Vista; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy J. Patterson Ayres, 68, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born March 25, 1931, in Wilkinsburg, a daughter of the late James and Dorothy Eaglen Patterson. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry D. Ayres; and two grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, William J. Ayres; three sons , James E. Ayres of North Huntingdon, William J. Ayres Jr. of Jeannette, and Gerald T. "Jerry" Ayres of Pleasant Hills; a daughter, Kathy J. Ayres of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Nancy Bergman of North Huntingdon. Elmer E. "Bud" Brown, 75, of Greensburg RD5, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at home. He was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Greensburg, a son of the late Israel S. and Jessie E. Pluck Brown. He was retired from Latrobe Steel with 26 ½ years of service. He was a member of St. Bruno Church and the American Legion Post 981, both of South Greensburg, and Moose Lodge 1151 and VFW Post 33, both of Greensburg. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Battery C 331st Field Artillery Battalion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Shawn Israel Brown, of his second marriage; eight brothers , William, Charles, James, George, Jacob, Harry, Robert, and Raymond Brown; three sisters , Mary Shipley, Dorothy Head, and Florence Telford; and his first wife, Bridget Vid Brown. He is survived by his wife, Eva Mazzagatti Brown; six children, the Rev. Phyllis Joan Brown, and Roxanne McCarthy and husband, John, all of Greensburg, Kerry Brown and wife, Cathy, of Mt. Pleasant, Beverly Willochell and husband, Mark, of North Carolina, Janice Smith and husband, Walt, Ohio, and Suzanne Trout of Derry; two stepchildren, Frank Phillips Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and Susan Covin and husband, Roger, of Wilmington, Del.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
