Rosa M. Shade
Rosa M. Shade, 89, of Valley View, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.
Born on February 19, 1914, in Hegins, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Kate Mause Shade.
She retired as a Floor Lady at the former Valley View Enterprises, Valley View.
She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur W. Shade who died in 1988.
Surviving are a son Eugene A Shade of Hegins; a brother James Huntzinger of Hegins; two sisters Hannah Schwartz and Mary Miller both of Hegins; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 29, 2003, at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. Interment was in St. Andrew's cemetery, Valley View.

Steena I. Smeltz
Steena I. Smeltz, 83, of Millersburg, died Friday, December 26, 2003, at home.
Born in Lower Mahanoy Twp., she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Beulah Paul Lenker.
She retired from Rite Aid in Shiremanstown. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg; she participated in several leagues at ABC West Lanes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Smeltz; and by two grandsons, Rodney and Larry Brown.
Surviving are a son, Lannie Smeltz of Mesa, AZ; a daughter, Loretta Brown of Halifax; grandchildren, Audrey Hoffman, Angela Brown, Jessica Stone, Lannie Smeltz II; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, December 30, at Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

Russell E. Snyder
Russell E. Snyder, 79, of Halifax, died Thursday, December 25, 2003, at home.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Donald and Amanda Etzweiler Snyder.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel; was a member of Halifax U.M. Church; Halifax VFW No. 5750; Millersburg American Legion No. 326; Woodmen of the World No. 721; Lykens Valley Roamers and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mildred N. Spotts Snyder; three sons, Donald E., and James R. both of Halifax; a brother, Harvey of Halifax; a sister, Gertrude Fahnestock of Lewisberry; grandchildren, Diane Keefer, Gary Snyder, Julie Rhoads, Dane Snyder; great-grandchildren Felicia Snyder, Kaysee Snyder, Eric Keefer, Cory Keefer and Wesley Rhoads.
Services were held on Monday December 29, at the Halifax U.M. Church. Interment with military honors was in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

William Witmer
William "Billy" Witmer, 29, of Tower City, died Friday, December 26, 2003.
Before becoming ill, he was employed by Lowes Distribution Center, Minersville.
He was a graduate of Williams Valley High School. He was of the Lutheran Faith, an active member of the Muir Fire Co., where he served as stewart of the social club, and also with the fire police. He was also a member of Tower City Loyal Order of Moose No.1603.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Justin; his grandparents, Arthur and Grace Hause and Kenneth Witmer.
Surviving are his father and step-mother, Terry and Barbara Fisher Witmer, with whom he resided; his mother, Linda Hause Bender of Williamstown; two brothers, Terry Witmer, Jr. of Donaldson and Michael Bender of Tower City; two sisters, Amanda and Jessica Witmer, both at home; paternal grandmother, Mae E. Gongloff Witmer of Tower City; his girlfriend, Ashley English of Muir; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Services were held Tuesday, December 30, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Arthur Sonnenberg officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery.

Beulah P. Heckert
Beulah Pauline Heckert, 89, of Middletown, formerly of Berrysburg, and a resident at Country Meadows Nursing Home in Hershey for six years, died Monday, December 15, 2003, at the home.
Born January 26, 1914 in Elizabethville, she was a daughter of the late David and Susan Phillips Latsha.
She was a retired seamstress for Puritan Fashions in Millersburg, after 10 years of service. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Berrysburg, PA. She was a member of the Amalgamated Cotton Garment Union.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark A. Heckert, who died in 1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Ann of Palmyra; a brother, Ernest Latsha of Harrisburg; and two grandsons, David Rodney of Lancaster and Daniel Rodney of Danbury, CT.
Memorial service were held Saturday, December 20, at Peace United Church of Christ, with Rev. Jeffrey Wagner officiating. A cremation was held. Interment was in Sweitzer's cemetery, Berrysburg.

Elva E. Breyer
Elva E. Breyer, 91, of Lykens, died Thursday, December 18, 2003, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born at Orwin, August 4, 1912, she was a daughter of the late William and Jennie Adams Stutzman.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin; Williams Valley Senior Citizens; Orwin Fire Co. Auxiliary; Wiconisco Golden Age Cub and Birthday Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. 'Pert' Breyer.
Surviving are a sister, Eva L. Foster of Orwin; nieces and nephews.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 26, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ cemetery, Orwin, with the Rev. Edward S. Gorbrecht officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Irene Coleman, 99, formerly of the Lykens area, died recently at ManorCare, Camp Hill.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

William H. Dreibelbis
William H. "Bill" Dreibelbis, 56, of Dornsife, died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at the Sunbury Community Hospital.
Born at Hickory Corners, January 6, 1947, he was a son of the late Daniel and Thelma Lehman Dreibelbis.
He was employed as a forklift operator for Weis Market, Inc., Milton. He was a 1965 graduate of Line Mountain High School, RR 1, Herndon. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Himmel's United Church of Christ, Rebuck.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Dreibelbis.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Carol B. Smeltz Dreibelbis; a son, Eric T. of RR 1, Port Trevorton; two sisters, Lisa Weaver of Halifax, and Hope Shissler of Dornsife; a brother, Steve Dreibelbis of Mifflintown; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, from the Himmels Church at Rebuck, with the Rev. Frederick H. Faust officiating. There will be no viewing. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

She was a daughter of the late Peter and Faye Pinkerton Solence.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon E. Deiter, Sr.; a daughter, Sherry Ney; a granddaughter, Kristi Wenzel; a great-grandson, Joseph O'Neill; two brothers, David and Peter Solence; and a sister, Faye Michaels.
Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy Bohner of Mulberry, FL, Donna Koons, and Debra Nasados of Tower City; a son, Gordon E. Deiter of Lykens; two sisters, Margaret Paul of Lykens, and Dorothy Mucher of Tremont; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Dorothy M. Fenstermacher, 81, of Millersburg, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at home.
Born July 10, 1922 in Millersburg, she was a daughter of Fred and Maude Williard Daniels.
She was a lifetime member of Trinity UCC in Millersburg.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Eugene C. Fenstermacher; three sons, Rodney of Quakertown, Andy of Mt. Joy, and Jeff of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Amy Katchko of New Freedom; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Shirley D. Hess
Shirley D. Hess, 67, of Pillow, died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born at Pitman, June 1, 1936, she was a daughter of E. Pauline Harring Snyder of RR 1, Pitman, and the late Elwood A. 'Elec' Snyder.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles L. Hess of Pillow; a daughter, Melodee A. Kessler of Elizabethville; two sons, Todd S. of Pillow, and Ty L. of RD Dalmatia; a sister, Doris Kehler of RR 2, Sunbury; three brothers, George A. Snyder of RR 1, Klingerstown, Terry L. Snyder of RR 1, Dornsife, and Craig S. Snyder of RR 1, Pitman; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 26, at 11 a.m. from the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR 1, Klingerstown. Viewing will be held on Friday morning in the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville. The Stephen R. Kermit F. Koppenhaver
Kermit F. Koppenhaver, 79, of Seattle, WA, formerly of Millersburg, died December 19, 2003, in Seattle.
Born in Millersburg, he was a son of the late John and Mary Ellen Shoop Koppenhaver.
He was a graduate of Millersburg High School and the University of Washington. He retired from the Boeing Aircraft Co., with 39 years of service. He was a member of the former Grace Evangelical Church, Millersburg; and was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving is a sister Mary E. Koppenhaver of Millersburg.
Graveside services in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg will be held at a later date.
