Guy M. Leitzel
Guy Monroe Leitzel, 85, of Lemoyne, formerly of Gratz, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born August 3, 1918 in Herndon, he was a son of the late Naldy and Hannah Rothermel Leitzel.

He retired from Baker Drive Away in Hagerstown, MD as a truck driver; was a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz; member of VFW Post 2385, Lykens Twp.; Silver Grey Retired Campers; and a former member of Gratz Fair Assoc.; served in the Army in World War II, European Theatre, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Surviving are his wife, Betty L. Koppenhaver Leitzel; three daughters, Ruth Ann Allen, Gloria Boyer, and Brenda Kimmel, all of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Anna Lenker of Harrisburg; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Religious services were held at the Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz on Saturday, January 3, with Rev. Barry Ridge officiating. Interment was in Gratz Union cemetery.

Donations may be made to Simeon's United Lutheran Church, Gratz, PA. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin H. Lenker
Edwin H. Lenker, 83, of Pitman, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at home.
Born in Mowry, January 7, 1920, he was a son of the late Nathan Henry and Millie Amelia Maurer Lenker. He was educated in Hegins Township High School.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations, and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He retired in 1984 after 27 years at Hershey Foods Inc.

He was a member of Christ Independent Church, Mowry, Mahantongo Fire Company, Pitman, former member of Mount Carmel American Legion, a former member of Mount Carmel VFW, and a former member of Mahantongo Valley Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva, Wilson.

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty J. Snyder; a daughter, June Lenker, at home; and two nieces.

Services were held Saturday, January 3, from Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR1 Klingerstown, with the Rev. Frank Wojchiechowski officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Memorial cemetery, Lavelle. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR1 Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Jennie M. Long
Jennie Mabel Long, age 91, of Spang Crest Manor, Lebanon, formerly of Hegins, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Spang Crest Manor.

Born in Hickory Corners, June 4, 1912, she was a daughter of the late George and Eva Michael Walborn.

She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins, and a former member of the Hegins Fire Company Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Long who died in 1972; a daughter Nancy McIntyre; a grandson Robert T. McIntyre; four brothers Ray, Lee, Charles, and Harry Walborn; and three sisters Carrie Reitz, Bertha Donmoyer, and Mary Walborn.

Surviving are a son Kenneth Long of Camp Hill; five daughters Elsie Yoder of Linden, Dorothy Martin of Lebanon, Linda Weidner of Middletown, Diane McIntyre of Rock Hall, Md, and Karen Smith of Eagle River, Alaska; a sister Lena Wetzel of Danville; a brother Percey Walborn of Herndon; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Warren Egebo officiating. Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Friedens cemetery, Hegins.

Memorial contributions can be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins PA 17938, or to the Spang Crest Memory Center, 945 Duke Street, Lebanon PA 17042.

Arlene M. Novinger
Arlene M. Novinger, 78, of Millersburg died Monday December 29, 2003, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.

Born in Big Run, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Naomi Fetterhoff Keister. She was a retired dietary aid at Susquehanna Lutheran Village working for 27 years after raising her family. She was a life-long resident of Lykens Valley with the majority of her life living in Rife. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rife for many years.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years Edwin L. Novinger; three sons Kenneth W. Novinger of Falling Waters, WV, David L. Novinger of Herndon, and Lynn R. Novinger of Falling Waters, WV; a daughter Elaine S. Leiter of Duncannon; two brothers, Bill Keister of Loyalton and Robert Keister of Lewisberry; two sisters, Margaret Paul of Loyalton, and Ruth Barge of Millersburg; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday January 2, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rife. Interment was in the church cemetery. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret E. Paul
Margaret E. Paul, 84, of Lykens, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, at the home of a daughter in Steelton.

Born in Lykens, she was a graduate of Lykens High School.

She was a retired employee of the former Shop 'N' Play Grocery Store.

She was a member of Lykens United Methodist Church and Lykens High School Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood E.; a son, Elwood.

Surviving are two sons, Forrest, Williamstown, and Harold, Lykens; two daughters, Sandra Jones, Steelton, and Margaret Keiser, Wiconisco; a sister, Dorothy Mucher, Tremont; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, December 31, from John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with the Rev. Keith J. Schmuck officiating. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Williamstown. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary L. Rhody
Mary Louise Rhody, 76, of Joliett, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Joliett, October 30, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Evelyn Schaeffer Rhody. She was a 1946 graduate of Porter Township High School.

She retired as a janitor in the tricot department of Guilford Mills, Pine Grove.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Shadle; two nephews, Barry and Dale Shadle; and a niece, Arlene Shadle.

Surviving are four nephews, Robert Rhody, Minersville, Irvin, Ray and Donald Shadle, all of Joliett; three nieces, Karen Spittler, Tower City, Barbara Shadle, Pine Grove, and Carol Taylor, Texas.

Services were held Saturday, January 3, at Joliett United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Boyd officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Tremont. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Boyd P. Romberger
Boyd P. Romberger, 87, of Millersburg, died Friday January 2, 2004, at the Kepler Home in Elizabethville.

Born in Elizabethville, he was a son of the late Daniel and Della Enders Romberger.

He was a farmer and night watchman at the former Johnson-Bailee Shoe Factory in Millersburg.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Warren and Lloyd and a sister, Mildred Troutman.

Surviving are his wife, Marguerite Geise Romberger; three sons, John of Elizabethville, Carl of Millersburg and Marlin of Lykens; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Services were held on Tuesday, January 6, at the Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville.

Sylvia Schlicher
Sylvia Bopp Schlicher, 101, of Upper Darby, formerly of Reinerton, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, at Fair Acres Home, Lima.

She was a former elementary school teacher in Porter Township School District.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clement R.

Surviving are nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

Celebration of life service were held Wednesday, December 31, from Spencer T. Videon Funeral Home, Drexel Hill. Interment was private in Greenwood cemetery, Tower City.

Ada M. Schwartz
Ada M. Schwartz, 90, a resident at Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown, formerly of Pine Grove, died Thursday, January 1, 2003, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lickdale, February 8, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Mary Long Minnich.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Pine Grove, and a 50-year member of Mary E. Moore Chapter 374 Order of the Eastern Star, Pine Grove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick S., who died January 9, 1975; a brother, Clarence Minnich.

Surviving are a son, Floyd, Falls Church, Va.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday, January 4, in Outwood Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove, with the Rev. Dr. Ira C. Lydic officiating. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Annabell Seiler
Annabell Seiler, 84, of Halifax died Friday January 2, 2003, at the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Halifax she was a daughter of the late Newton and Mabel Baker Steffen.

She was of the United Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Seiler.

Surviving are two sons Max and Jack, and a daughter Jacqueline all of Halifax; two brothers Charles Steffen of Hershey and Lee Steffen of Seattle, WA; three sisters Martha Cooper, Jean Lawlor and Lois Stine all of Halifax; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Services will be held on Wednesday January 7, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment will be in Long's cemetery, Halifax. Viewing will be from 9-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Halifax Fire Dept. 22 S. River Road Halifax, PA 17032. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Linda M. Shadle
Linda M. Shadle, 60, of Lykens, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, in Northumberland County (Route 147), as the result of a Sunday afternoon automobile accident.

Born in Gratz, March 29, 1943 she was a daughter of Hilda V. Hentz Rebuck of Elizabethville, and the late Derl L. Rebuck.

She was employed by the Dept. of Public Welfare, Bureau of Financial Operations, Division of 3rd Party Liability, Harrisburg. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Corry L. Shadle of Halifax; two sisters, Mary L. Peters and Brenda G. Leitzel, both of Elizabethville; and two grandsons, Tyler A. and Jayden C. Shadle.

Services were held Wednesday, December 31, at Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville, with the Rev. Nancy L. Weiss officiating. Interment was in "Himmels" church cemetery, Rebuck.

Memorial Donations may be made to: Volunteer Home Care, 160 Red Horse Road, Pottsville, PA 17901. Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Edith Adams
Edith Adams, 75, of MIllersburg, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Harry and Bessie Smith Landis.

She attended Millersburg High School and was a graduate of Messiah Academy in Grantham, PA. She was a member of David's Church in Killinger. She was employed as a LPN with the late Dr. Henry Hottenstein for many years followed by EMT with Millersburg Ambulance Assoc., along with her husband, Mervin Adams. She was treasurer for the Millersburg and Upper Paxton Twp. Historical Society and a member of the "Freewheelers" motorcycle club with her husband. She was a prominent part of the Adams Auction Sales service for 52 years.

Edith is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mervin Adams; three children, Steve Adams of Halifax, Lorraine Gibson of Orwigsburg, and Barbara Otto of Port Orchard, WA; four grandchildren, Justin Adams of Elizabethville, Katie Shoemaker of San Francisco, Glen Gibson of Alexandria, VA and Issac Adams of Nashville, TN; and a sister, Evelyn Shott of Millersburg.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2004 at 10 a.m., at David's Church in Killinger. There will be a visitation with the family on Friday from 9-10 a.m. at the church.
