Joseph C. Murray
Joseph C. Murray, 88, of Millersburg, died on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill.
Born on February 14, 1915 in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Mary M. Tiley Murray.
He was employed for over thirty years in sales with the A.W. Troutman Company of Millersburg. He was a member of the Legion of Leaders for many years and a former member of the School Board of the Millersburg School District.
He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Ethel Murray, who died in September of 2000; and by two sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are a son, Jack L. Murray of Millersburg; three daughters, Carol L. Strohecker of Harrisburg, Gayle L. Geist of Beavertown and Joy L. Schaeffer of Greencastle; a sister, Leona E. Kemper of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Thomas E. Murray of Placentia, CA; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 7th at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg.

Jacqueline M. Rothermel
Jacqueline M. Rothermel, 72, of Hegins, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, at her home.
Born in Mount Carmel, July 16, 1931, she was a daughter of Alma Lubold Green of Hegins, and the late Charles Green, Sr.
She was the owner and operator of the former Rothermel Personal Care Home, Hegins. She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins; and the Hegins Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Karen Catanzaro of Spring City, and Kathy Suhr of Halifax; a son, Bill Rothermel of Reading; a friend, Gabriel 'Gus' Roseilli of Wayne; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004, from Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, with the Rev. Claude Schach officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Friedens cemetery, Hegins.

Leroy H. Underkoffler
Leroy Henry Underkoffler, 89, of Middletown, formerly of Palmyra and St. Petersburg, FL, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at the Village.
Born September 25, 1914 in Valley View, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary Carl Underkoffler.
He was a retired laborer in the molding department for 36 years at Hershey Foods; former member of the Brethren In Christ Church of Palmyra and was a former Sunday school teacher; member of the Northeast Park Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, FL; member of the Hershey Foods Local Chocolate Worker's Union 464; and a graduate of Tower City High School, Class of 1932.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester and Robert Underkoffler and George Willard; and a sister, Elizabeth Wise.
Surviving are his wife, Ada B. Underkoffler of Middletown; a son, Gerald L. Underkoffler of Shippensburg; two daughters, Linda M. Crider of Souderton, and Joanne M. Lytle of Middletown; two sisters, Faye Baglin and Joyce Reedy, both of Palmyra; a brother, Clyde Underkoffler of Palmyra; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., Palmyra, on Wednesday, January 7, with the Rev. Wayne Hall officiating. Interment was in Gravel Hill cemetery.

Margaret A. Wallace
Margaret A. Wallace of Lykens, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Simon and Margaret Novick Yanchoris.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught at the Shenandoah Elementary School, the former Wiconisco High School, and Upper Dauphin Elementary School. She was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Wallace.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 10, at her church, with Father Tri Luong as celebrant. Interment was in Christ Church cemetery, Fountain Springs, with Father John Frink officiating.

Doris M. Wertz
Doris M. Wertz, 77, of Elizabethville, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late John and Edna Hoffman Dowell.
She was a very active member of Salem UCC in Elizabethville and a life member and former EMT with Reliance Hose Co. No. 1 in Elizabethville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie and two brothers, Joseph and Herbert.
Surviving are her husband, Jacque A. Wertz; a son, Michael of Elizabethville; two brothers, Charles Dowell of Mesa, AZ and Harold Dowell of New Bloomfield; a sister, Mildred Zimmerman of Duncannon; granddaughter, Kimberly Sue Fitzpatick and grandson, Brian Michael Wertz.
Services were held on Monday, January 12, at Salem UCC, 143 W. Main Street, Elizabethville. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville.

R. Kathleen Zeiders, 86, of Halifax, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born in Steelton, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Rose Bishel Soulliard.
She was a retired fabricator of custom drapes and slipcovers.
She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Millersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Zeiders.
Surviving are three daughters, Josephine Richwine and Irene Bahner, both of Halifax, Kathyann Detweiler, of Marysville; a sister, Irene Drabenstaudt of Camp Hill; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Martha A. Alutius
Martha A. Alutius, 92, formerly of Tower City, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Porter Twp., April 26, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Clara Kessler Brown.
She was a retired seamstress from the Garment Industry. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Muir, where she was the former choir director and was very active with the women's group.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, in 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Joseph, Jr., of Alaska and Albert A. of Pottstown; a daughter, Lois M. Hunter of Florida; a sister, Clara Underkoffler of Tremont; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, January 5, from her church, with Rev. John Quintilian officiating. Interment was in the Fairview cemetery, Muir.

Mary E. Cook, 86, of Lykens died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was a retired employee of the former Lebro Shirt Company; a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church and the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
She was born in Lykens, September 4, 1917.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. Cook.
Surviving are two sons, Robert of Lykens and James of Elizabethville; three sisters, Dorothy Bowman of Lykens, Helen Wenrich of Williamstown and Anna Kasputis of Baltimore, MD.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, January 3, at her church, with Father Tri M. Luong as celebrant. Interment was in the Parish cemetery.

Blanche M. Fetter
Blanche M. Fetter, 94, of Millersburg, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village in Millersburg.
Born in Klingerstown, she was a daughter of the late Manassas and Katie Kissinger Rothermel.
She was a retired cosmetologist from the former Pomroy's department store.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Fetter and by two sons, Lamar and Joseph, two daughters, Joan Smith and Carole Simonson, two brothers, Autin and Edmond, and a sister, Florence Hoffman.
Surviving are two daughter, Evelyn Oates of Wheeling, WV, and Barbara Smith of Mechanicsburg; a son, Harry W. of Millersburg; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, January 5, at the Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in the Middletown cemetery.

Frank A. Hefner
Frank A. Hefner, 86, of RR 2, Saylorsburg, formerly of Glenside, died Friday, December 19, 2003, at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born in Philadelphia, October 29, 1917, he was a son of the late Frank A. and Catherine McMahon Hefner.
He was a retired test engineer at RCA in Camden, NJ, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of employment. He was a 1936 graduate of the Roman Catholic High School, Center City, Philadelphia, and attended Drexel University. He was a ham radio operator and an astronomy club member. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mildred M. Wolfgang Hefner; two son, Frank D. of Lower Gwynedd, and Allen James of Hatboro; a daughter, Carolyn A Crugnale of Chalfront; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 23, at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR 1, Klingerstown, with Father Michael Ahrensfiled officiating. Interment was in Jacob's cemetery, RR 1, Pitman.

Pauline M. Latsha
Pauline M. Swinehart Latsha, 89, of Millersburg, and a resident at Susquehanna Lutheran Village died Monday, December 29, 2003, at the village.
Born in Jordan Twp. she was a daughter of the late Chauncey and Carrie Brosius Boyer.
She retired from the former Johnson-Bailee Shoe factory. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Millersburg; Millersburg and Upper Paxton Twp. Historical Society; OES Glen Chapter No. 425; Amaranth Court No. 134; WOTM Chapter No. 1083; Past president of the VFW No. 5507 ladies auxiliary; past troop leader of Millersburg girl scout troop No. 47; Millersburg senior center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Latsha and a daughter Marthella Stenger.
Surviving are a daughter Karen Deutermann of Huntington Valley, PA; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter.
Services were held on Saturday January 3, at the Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg. Interment was in David's UCC cemetery, Hebe. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
Robert C. Laudenslager, Sr.
Robert C. Laudenslager, Sr., 86, of Williamstown, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Enhaut, Dauphin Co., June 10, 1917, he was a son of the late Newton Laudenslager and the late Oscar and Mary Smeltz.
He was a retired carpenter from the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown and was also a coal miner. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist church, a life member of the Williamstown American Legion, Williamstown V.F.W., Liberty Hose Co. No. 1, Williamstown and the Dauphin County Volunteer Fireman's Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Evans Laudenslager in 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Cathy A. Lubold; son, Robert C., Jr., and a sister, Ruby Stuppy, all of Williamstown.
Services were held on Saturday, January 3, from his church, with Rev. Elizabeth Whitehead officiating. Interment was in the Methodist cemetery.
