Anthony A. Malacusky
Anthony Albert Malacusky, 78, of Herndon, died January 5, 2004, at his son's home in West Palm Beach, Fla.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; a son, Leonard; a grandson, Anthony.
Surviving are three sons, Anthony of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ronald of Frackville, and Adam of Dalmatia; four daughters, Roseann Yunevage of Sheppton, Bonnie Hannisof Shenandoah Heights, Antoinet Sypeck of Hazleton, and Toni Lynn of Herndon; a step-daughter, Jane Reed of Drums; a step-son, Paul Reed of Dalmatia; 13 grandchildren; and13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass was celebrated Saturday, January 17, at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah. Graveside services were held at St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Brandonville.
Samuel J. Merrell
Samuel J. Merrell, 69, formerly of Tower City, died Monday, January 19, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Linda L. Reiner in 2001.
Surviving are his sons, Samuel of Florida and Timmy of Tamaqua.
Services will be private. Interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City R.D.

Beatrice M. Miller
Beatrice Mayanna Miller, 86, of Valley View, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at her home.
Born in Hegins, May 4, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Claudia Klouser Miller.
She retired as a seamstress from Valley View Manufacturing, Valley View.
She was of the Protestant Faith.
She was preceded in death by five brothers Albert, Clervin, Tervine, Arlen, and Kenneth Miller.
Surviving are three nephews, Lyle Miller of Tremont, Randy Miller of Hegins, Dennis Miller of Oklahoma; six nieces Lois Batz of Goodspring, Sandra Dinger of Pine Grove, Beverly Shade of Hegins, Gloria Starr of Hegins, Linda Todd of Curwensville, and Mary Alice Unger of Norristown.
Services were held on Saturday, January 17, at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Gerald Frey officiating. Interment was in the Church of God cemetery, Valley View, Pa. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.
Naomi E. Miller
Nancy E. Miller, 79, of Tower City, died Monday, January 12, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
SBorn in Lincoln on April 18, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Elva Reiner Boyer.
She was a retired seamstress from the garment industry.
She was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. in 1979, a grandson, Todd Reedy in 2002, and a sister, Melba Morgan in 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara A. Reedy of Williamstown and Brenda E. Kulp of Morrisville; four brothers, Lester Boyer of Good Spring, Robert Boyer of Tower City, Ralph Boyer of MA and Terry Boyer of Orwin; two sisters, Thelma Workman of Tremont and Faye Krammes of NH; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services were held Thursday, January 15, from her church, with Rev. Arthur Sonnenberg officiating. Interment was in the Fairview cemetery, Muir.

Carol A. Morgan
Carol A. Morgan, 62, died Friday, January 16, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville.
She was a retired CNA, from Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Surviving are two daughters, Robin Greiner of Muir, Judy Smith of Minersville; two sons, Rodney Donmoyer of Tower City and Ted Donmoyer of R.D. Lykens; a brother, Bill Long of Lykens; and two sisters, Phyllis Lestkowski of Minersville and Mary Long of Pottsville.
Memorial service were held Tuesday, January 20, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City.
Connie L. Straight
Connie L. Straight, 50 of Halifax, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at the Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman.
Born in Ashland, January 18, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Arthur E. and Shirley A. Wolfgang Thomas.
She had worked as a bookkeeper in the past for various nursing homes in the area. She attended the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, Gratz.
Surviving are her husband, Dean C. Straight, at home, two sons, Dean C. Straight Jr., Mifflinburg, and Dwain M. Straight, Danville, a daughter, Karen A. Jasinski, Muncy; a brother, Arthur J. Thomas of Indiana; a sister, Bonnie Sheesley, Selinsgrove; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at the church on Wednesday, January 21, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the adjacent church cemetery. Viewing will be at the church on Tuesday evening, January 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday morning, January 21, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Ruth D. Sweigard
Ruth D. Sweigard, 85, formerly of Harrisburg and Lykens, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at Spring Creek Rehabilitation Center and Health Care Center, Harrisburg.
She was a daughter of the late Homer and Laura Geist Deibler. She was a graduate of the former Lykens High School. She retired from the former Selective Service System, Upper Dauphin County, and as a medical secretary from Harrisburg Hospital. She was a member of Lykens United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are a son, H. James Sweigard of Harrisburg; a daughter, Judith A. Peach of new Cumberland; a sister, Laura L. Drum of Norman, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 19, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with the Rev. Keith J. Schmuck officiating. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco.

Joyce M. Warner
Joyce M. Warner, 72, of Pine Grove, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, at home.
Born in Pine Grove Township, April 27, 1931, she was a daughter of the late William O. and Mary E. Baylor Schaeffer. She was a 1949 graduate of Pine Grove High School.
She was last employed as a sewing machine operator at the former Summit Station Manufacturing, Pine Grove.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 13 years, Clark F., who died on October 11, 1986; a step-son, Steven Warner; and a step-daughter, Peggy Cooper.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Pamela Bowers, Tremont; three sisters, Dollie DuBois, Minneo Yorty and Gertrude Brown, all of the Pine Grove area; three brothers, Clarence "Popeye" Schaeffer and William Schaeffer, both of Pine Grove, and Irvin "Irps" Schaeffer, Palmyra; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove. The Rev. Dale Groff will officiate. Interment will be in Hetzel's cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
Robert E. York
Robert Elmer York, 79, of Gratz, died Saturday, January 12, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Atlantic City, NJ, October 24, 1924, he was a son of the late Lawrence M. and Lillian P. Arbagast York.
He was a retired brick layer for the York Local Union. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy. He was a member of the American legion Post 404, Elizabethville; the Red Lion VFW; the Erdman Sportsman Association; and the Brick Layers Union, York Local.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Surviving are five daughters, Frances Fralick and Phyllis Penn, both of Gratz, Cheryl Pace of Bridgetown, NJ, Deborah Vogel of Mount Joy, and Gale Smith of Delta; a son, Keith York of New Hope; a sister, Madeline McMullen of Bensalem; 27 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Religious services will be held Wednesday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Charles Oldland officiating. Viewing will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. until time of service.

Marlin H. Adams
Marlin H. Adams, 73, of Williamstown, died Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Clarks Valley, May 30, 1930, he was a son of the late James and Florence Hatter Adams.
He retired from the former Bestok Garment Factory, Tower City.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, John H., in 1977; a grandson, Vaughen Adams.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Lorraine A. McCarthy; a daughter, Gail L. Scheib of Williamstown; three sons, James M. of Williamstown, Gerald H. of West Virginia, and Gene A. of Tower City; three sisters, Maude Morgan of Hegins, and Helen Hudsinus and Verna Adams, both of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Gladys D. Burdick
Gladys D. Burdick, 75, of Tower City, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in California, March 13, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Revs. William and Josephine Carney Brown.
She was a licensed pastor with Foursquare Gospel Church. She was a pioneer in bringing the Foursquare Gospel Church to the New England states.
She was a member of Mountain Light Foursquare Gospel Church, Muir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Cecil.
Surviving are two daughters, the Rev. Donna Jo Whitmore of Muir, and Joyce Riveira of Florida; a sister, Beverly Hil of Missouri; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Celebration of life services were held Thursday, January 8, in Mountain Light Foursquare Gospel Church, with the Rev. Keith Whitmore, her son-in-law, officiating. Interment was in Dauphin cemetery. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.
Sarah A. Deibler
Sarah A. Deibler, 93, of Millersburg, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at the Susquehanna Lutheran Village.
Born in Berrysburg on June 19, 1910, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Clara Bowman Weaver.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Fisherville and a Life Member of the Millersburg American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Deibler and three sons, Harold Jr., Richard, and Charles.
Surviving are a son, Alfred of Elizabethville; a daughter, Janet Hoffman of Orland Park, IL; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Thursday, January 8th at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville.
