James D. Ebright
James D. "Smokey" Ebright, 76, of Millersburg, died Monday March 29, 2004, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Millersburg, he was a son of the late George and Mary Zurick Ebright.
He was a Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired night watchman for the former Kinney Shoe factory in Millersburg. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 59; American Legion No. 326; VFW Post No. 5507; Tri-Valley Bowling League; and Moose Sunday Bowling league.
Surviving are a companion, Henrietta Lahr; a son, Robert of Lauderhill, FL; a step-son, Rick Shoop of Millersburg; a sister, Mary Klinger of Millersburg; and a granddaughter, Lauren Ebright.
Memorial services were held on Friday, April 2, at the Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc. in Millersburg. Interment with military honors was in Indiantown Gap National cemetery.

Marie E. Goodman
Marie E. Goodman, 79, of Dalmatia, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Maude Schaffner.
She retired from the former Puritan Fashions in Millersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Goodman; and by a son, Terry.
Surviving are a son, Larry of Millersburg; a sister, Margaret Heim of Sunbury; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. Viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Ethel I. Gurtz
Ethel Irene Coleman Gurtz, 85, of Adelphi, Maryland, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Maryland.
Born in Gratz, September 16, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Austin Wallace Coleman and Buella Anora Klinger.
She graduated in 1936 in Williamstown High School in Williamstown, and graduated with honors from Central Pennsylvania Business College in Harrisburg the following year.
She worked for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C., during World War II and, starting in 1964, for the National Institute of Mental Health at the Mental Health Study Center in Adelphi, Maryland, until her retirement in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gaylord Michael Gurtz; three brothers Mark Austin, Charles Jacob, and Arthur Earl, and a sister Ruth Buella Lebo.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis M. Gurtz of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Martin E. Gurtz of Reston, Virginia; two sisters, Hilda Lucille Fleegal and Sarah Elizabeth Beck; a brother, Robert Raymond; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday, March 29, at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring, Maryland. Interment was in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, Maryland.

Howard H. Hoke
Howard H. "Peanut" Hoke, 72, of Millersburg, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Millersburg, he was a son of the late Daniel and Cora Snody Hoke.
He retired from the former Muskin Shoe Factory in Millersburg; and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Russell, Daniel and sisters, Dee Dee Bucher and Betty Hoke.
Surviving are a brother, William of Elizabethville; five sisters, Delphia Enders, Sarah Feidt, Mabel Graff, Carrie Buffington, Dorothy Hoke, all of Millersburg and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Monday, April 5, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment with military honors was in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg.

Barbara D. Hoverocker
Barbara D. Hoverocker, 48, of Donaldson, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, September 11, 1955, she was a daughter of Theodore R. Morgan, Donaldson, and the late Jean Marie Reiner Morgan.
She was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church, Donaldson.
Surviving, in addition to her father, are three daughters, Lynn McClucas of Tower City, Tammy Fredericks of Tremont, and Cathy Yordy of Donaldson; a son, Kyle Morgan of Donaldson; two sisters, Bonnie Baron of Pine Grove, and Brenda Butler of Pottsville; a brother, Craig Morgan of Donaldson; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, from Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont. The Rev. Roberta Mellon will officiate. Interment will be in Donaldson Community cemetery, Donaldson.

Edith G. Leitzel
Edith Geneva Leitzel, 97, formerly of Tremont, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.
Born in Fearnot, September 17, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Charles X. and Vada Carl Miller.
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Tremont.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David A., in 1958; a brother, Wayne Miller; three sisters, Fern Snyder, Eva Miller and Ethel Tobias.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Edmunds of St. Augustine, Fla.; several nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, from Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, with the Rev. Donald Boyd officiating. Interment was in St. Peter's United Methodist cemetery, Fearnot.

Arlene R. Miller
Arlene R. Miller, 82, a resident at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, formerly of Halifax, died Thursday April 1, 2004, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late George and Susan Lebo Rummel.
She retired from Willits Shoe Factory in Halifax.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Bailey, and her second husband, Glenn Miller.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Glenda Risch of Racine, WI; and a granddaughter, Jessica Grimm of Jacksonville, FL.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 6, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in Jacob's U.B. cemetery in Halifax R.D.

Frank D. Mione
Frank D. Mione, 82, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Elizabethtown.
Born in Tower City on September 23, 1921, he was a son of the late Frank and Virginia D'Andreas Mione.
He was retired from the U.S. Navy with over 20 years of service. He was the last Blimp Pilot with the Navy. He was also retired from the Goodyear Tire Company; was a member of St. Peters Roman Catholic Historic Church, Elizabethtown and was a member of Fleet Reserve Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Black Mione.
Surviving are his son, Frank J., Sr., of Tower City; a daughter, Andrea Mione of West Chester; his companion, Rose Marie Lynn of Elizabethtown; a brother, Louis Mione of Tower City; two sisters, Clara Carroll of Tremont and Dora Carlone of Fishville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 7, at 11 a.m., from Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Tower City. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 9-10:45 a.m., at the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City. Interment will be in Sacred Heart cemetery, Williamstown. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m., in St. Peters Roman Catholic Historic Church, Cherry Alley, Elizabethtown.

Gladys E. Nace
Gladys E. Nace, 95, of Dalmatia, currently residing at the Polk Apartments in Millersburg, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village in Millersburg.
Born in Hickory Corners, she was a daughter of the late William Schwartz Schaeffer and Lerie Calvarus Long Schaeffer.
She graduated from Dalmatia High School in 1925. She received her teaching certificate from Millersville Normal School in 1927; a bachelor's degree from Penn State in 1940; and a master's degree from Millersville University in 1972. She retired from teaching in 1974, after 40 years in the Reitz School in Dornsife, the Dalmatia Grammar School, Lower Mahanoy Twp. Grammar School, Mahanoy Joint and Line Mt. High School, Line Mt. library system.
She was a life member of the Trinity Lutheran and Reformed Church in Dalmatia, where she taught Sunday school for many years; a member of the Dalmatia Historical Society; and a renowned local historian and guest speaker to senior citizens groups.
She was a girl scout den mother for many years; counselor for Dalmatia scout troops; and a recipient of the boy scout and explorer scout merit badge.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Marlin E. "Jack" Nace; brothers, Gene and Mark Schaeffer; and a sister, Esther Hoffman.
Surviving are a son, Bill Nace of Millersburg; a daughter, Mary Hoover of Williamstown; a sister, Irene Wommer of Millersburg; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Trinity U.C.C. in Dalmatia. Interment will be in the Dalmatia cemetery. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the church. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
William C. Nagg
William C. Nagg, 71, of Tremont, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at S.C.C.I. in Harrisburg.
Born in Ashland, February 24, 1933, he was a son of the late Frank and Florence Marlow Nagg.
He was retired from the Peiffer Machine Shop, Mt. Aetna. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont. He was a member of the Tremont Fire Company; the Fire Company Community Band; the Tremont Senior Citizens; and a life member of the Mt. Aetna Fire Company.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Murray.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Claire Thompson Nagg; two daughters, Deborah Reiner of Jonestown, and Jodi Wolfe of Pine grove; a son, William of Waynesboro; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, at 7 p.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont, with the Rev. Liddy Howard officiating. Friends may call at the church from 6 p.m. until time of service. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family at Greenwood cemetery, Tower City.

Janice H. Rothermel
Janice Henrietta Rothermel, 69, of Toms River, N.J., died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.
Born in Hegins, she lived in Norfolk, Va., and Charleston, S.C., before moving to Toms River in 1970. She was a graduate of Braun School of Music, Pottsville.
She was a private piano instructor for 10 years before retiring.
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Hegins, where she was an organist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair, who died in 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Debra Gaughan and Lisa Hardifer, both of Toms River; two brothers, Archie Shadle of Peachtree City, Ga., and David Shadle of Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren.
