Sara D. Miller
Sara Delilah Good Miller, 95, of Loyalton, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas.
She was born July 28, 1908, in Loyalton, where she lived for 70 years and then moved to Texas to live with her daughter Helen's family in San Antonio.
For many years as the "Avon Lady" in the Lykens Valley. She was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Loyalton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. Miller; a daughter, Verna G. Miller; and a step-son, Carl N. Miller.
Surviving are a daughter, Helen Unger of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 13, in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville, followed by a memorial service at Immanuel Methodist Church in Loyalton.

Norwood E. Minnich
Norwood E. Minnich, 75, of Pine Grove, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Washington Township, April 19, 1928, he was a son of the late Emily Zimmerman Beaver.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 121st Transportation Truck Company. He received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He retired in 1982 as an extruder operator from Alcoa, Lebanon, and also worked for Alcoa, Cressona.
He was a member of Salem Hetzel's Lutheran Church, where he was a former member of the church council and past president of the Hetzel's cemetery Board, a member of Pine Grove Senior Citizens, Masonic Lodge F&AM; 409, Pine Grove, Rajah Shrine, Reading, Alcoa 25-Year Club, a 28-year member of Pine Grove Lions Club, serving as president in 1983 and 1984, a life member of Rock Fish and Game and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3432, Pine Grove.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Krammes, to whom he would have been married
50 years on April 17; a son, Kevin of Pine Grove; a daughter, Dawn Minnich of Pine Grove; a sister, Vivian Hagerman of Turbotville; and a granddaughter.
Services were held Saturday, April 10, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Debra Ernst officiating. Interment was in Hetzel's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Peggy J. Patton
Peggy J. Patton, 72, of Halifax, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Dauphin, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Mumma Wynn.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Roscoe A. Patton; a son, Jeffrey of Halifax; a daughter, Debbie of Clearwater, FL; a sister, Doris Long of Dauphin; and two grandchildren, Brett and Ashley.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Quay L. Cooper
Quay L. Cooper, 85, of Tower City, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Lykens on May 23, 1918, he was a son of the late Quay and Katie Knorr Cooper.
He was a World War II Army Veteran. He began his working career building tunnels for the PA Turnpike, later became a Coal Truck Driver; drove truck for the Coopers Bakery in Lykens and also owned the Cooper Variety Bake Goods in Tower City.
He was the last surviving charter member of the Porter Tower Lions Club, where he was very active and a former president. He was a 50 year member of the Tower City American Legion and a member of the Gratz VFW.
He was predeceased by his wife, Grace A.M. Cooper in 1990.
Surviving are his son, Lynn Q. of Tower City; three daughters, Kay R. Clarke of Harrisburg, Joan M. Keim and Karen P. Lavery, both of Tower City; two sisters, Florence Fetterhoff of Lebanon and Leah Scheib of Lykens; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, April 10, at the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City R.D., with Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating.

Gertrude H. Strohecker
Gertrude H. Strohecker, 83, of Tower City, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at her home.
Born in Lykens, September 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late William and Dora Reedinger.
She was a graduate of the former Lykens High School and was of the Protestant faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J., in 1978.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol A. Schneck and Kathy J. Buffington, both of Tower City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 13, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery.

Ray M. Stoneroad
Ray M. Stoneroad, 83, of Elizabethville, died on Sunday, April 11, 2004, at his son's residence in Elizabethville.
Born in Carsonville, June 10, 1920, he was a son of the late Hiram E. and Nora E. Wertz Stoneroad.
He retired as a shop foreman from Swab Wagon Co., Elizabethville, after 40 years of employment; was a member of Trinity U.M. Church in Elizabethville and a Veteran of the Army. He was a loving father, grandfather and great- grandfather.
Surviving are a son, Lynn M.; two daughters, Barbara L. Snody and Linda M. Sitlinger, all of Elizabethville; three sisters, Min Dockey of Elizabethville, Dorothy Rowe of Millersburg and Winifred Bowman of Halifax; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville on Thursday, April 15 at 11 a.m. Burial in Fairview cemetery, Enders. Viewing at the funeral home on Thursday from 9-11 a.m.

Robert R. Weaver
Robert R. Weaver, 86, of Tower City, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at his home.
Born in Muir, May 25, 1917, he was a son of the late Jacob and Carrie Evans Weaver. He was a 1935 graduate of the former Porter Township High School, after which he began working in with his father and late brothers John and Arthur at the former Weaver's Service Station, Muir. He was CO-owner of the family owned business until his retirement. He was also one of the original owners of the Goldmine Speedway in Clarks Valley. He was a master welder at Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in Baltimore during World War II.
He was a life-long active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton, where he served on the council. He was active in the Tower City Senior Citizens, served as an Old Home Week volunteer and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Blanche Cox, to whom he was married
65 years; two daughters, Linda W. Brown of Salt Lake City, UT, and Janet Reightler of Littlestown; a sister, Kathryn Schell Yeager of TN; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. from his church, with the Rev. Arthur Sonnenberg officiating, Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Lillian A. Welker
Lillian Alice Welker, 74, of Gratz, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at home.
Born August 7, 1929 in Lykens Twp., Dauphin County, she was a daughter of the late Roy F. and Alice R. Klinger Shade.
She was a homemaker; member of Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz; member of the Gratz Historical Society and Gratz Antique Machinery Association.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Shade.
Surviving are her husband, Clarence Harry Welker; two sons, Ricky E. and Harry E. Welker, both of Gratz; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Religious services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, at 11 a.m., in the James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, with Rev. Barry Ridge officiating. Interment will be in Gratz Union cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 13, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irene E. Alvord
Irene E. Alvord, 97, of Lykens, formerly of Wiconisco, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born June 15, 1916, at Wiconisco, she was a daughter of the late Gurney and Josephine Kolva Knorr. She was a graduate of the former Lykens High School; and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Wiconisco, where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar G. Alvord; a son, Robert Alvord; four brothers, Gurney, James, Walter, and Raymond; and three sisters, Dolly Whitmore, Margaret Knorr, and Ina Lou McNalis.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Calnon of Lykens; two sons, John Alvord of Williamstown and Terry Alvord of Arizona; a step-sister, Marlene Wiest of Lykens; two step-brothers, Lester Enterline of Camp Hill, and Russell Enterline of Carsonville; two half-sisters, Carol Mattern of Elizabethville, and Joyce Clark of Klingerstown; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 3, at her church, with the Rev. Ann B. Overmiller officiating. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist cemetery.

Stanley L. Brown Sr., 70, of Pine Grove, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pine Grove, March 8, 1934, he was a son of the late William and Alerta Felty Brown.
He was a Navy veteran.
He had been employed as a truck driver.
He was a member of Jacob's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Hazle Brobst, who died on February 18, 1991; a son, Harold W., on February 12, 1982; a sister, Irene Gerber; and three brothers, Harry, Allen and Paul W.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lorraine Boltz; four sons, Stanley Jr. of Pine Grove, Paul W. of Maryland, and Jeffrey and Bruce, both of Pottsville; five daughters, Deborah Miller Brillovet, Brenda J. Schaeffer and Sharon Wetzel, all of Pine Grove, Wanda Krammes of Schuylkill Haven, and Karen Felty of Tremont; a step-son, Ralph Ohl of Kansas; two step-daughters, Lorie Graham of Pine Grove, and Brenda L. Acker of Harleysville; 18 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren.
