Gloria M. Ash
Gloria M. Ash, 68, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pine Grove, April 25, 1935, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Ruth Hardenstine Derfler.
She was a saleswoman at the former Derfler's Store, Marstown Alley, Pine Grove.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, where she was the former superintendent of the primary department of Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Clarence J. Jr.; a daughter, Cathy Ash; two brothers, Paul and Eugene Derfler.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Kreiser of Pine Grove; two brothers, George Derfler Jr. and Terry Derfler, both of Pine Grove; a sister, June Hoffman of Pine Grove; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter.
Services were held Saturday, April 17, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Lay minister John Ziegler officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
Anna M. Baker
Anna M. Specht Baker, 80, of Wellsboro, formerly of Hegins, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the home of a son in Leck Kill.
Born in RR1 Klingerstown, August 9, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Lottie E. Reiner Fetterolf.
She was a retired garment worker, having worked in Valley View, Dalmatia, Gratz and Pine Grove area factories.
She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Leck Kill, and International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leon C. Specht, on December 26, 1944, in Germany while serving in the Army during World War II; three sisters, Pauline Masser, Mae Fetterolf and Iva Saltzman; and a brother, Mark Fetterolf.
Surviving are her husband, Clinton Baker; two sons, Franklin Specht, with whom she had resided since October, and Jack Specht of Hegins; three sisters, Elda Kehler of Perkiomenville, Katie Rothermel of Warminster, and Ethel Kimmel of RR1 Klingerstown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 17, in Christ United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. Interment was in Wellsboro cemetery. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, was in charge of arrangements.
Edward J. Bender
Edward J. Bender, 38, of Joliett, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born April 20, 1965, he was a son of Donald and Shirley Lavenburg Bender of Joliett.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Joliett; and the Joliett Fire Company. He was employed as a miner.
Surviving in addition to his parents are, four brothers, Donald Jr. of Tremont, Rick, Brian, and Raymond, all of Joliett; two sisters, Cheryl Bixler of Muir, and Joyce Steckley of Good Spring; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 21, at 11 a.m. from the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Pine Grove, with the Rev. Donald Boyd officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove. Viewing will be Tuesday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenn A. Betz
Glenn A. Betz, 61, of Pine Grove, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Veteran Administration Medical Center, Lebanon.
Born in Tremont, October 26, 1942, he was a son of the late Glenn A. Sr. and Lorraine Bensinger Betz.
He was an Army veteran, serving with Company A 15th QM Bn USARSEVEN.
He was a cement finisher for 33 years for Local Union 158 Heavy and Highway.
He was a member of Salem Hetzel's Lutheran Church and Tulpehocken Rifle and Pistol Club, both of Pine Grove.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Potts.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, the former Carol Fox; a son, Keith of Pine Grove; two daughters, Brenda Strouphauer of Pine Grove, and Nichole Betz of Saint Clair; five brothers, Ronnie of Tremont, Robert and Bruce, both of Pine Grove, Dennis of Williamstown, and Keith of Hummelstown; a sister, Gail Smyers of New Cumberland; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.

Leon L. Brosius
Leon L. "Caddy" Brosius, 80, of RR 1, Klingerstown, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born at Pillow, June 14, 1923, he was a son of the late Landis J. and Ferrie Fetter Brosius. He was educated in the Klingerstown area schools.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy.
He was a retired mechanic, having been employed by Eastern Express, Harrisburg, for over 20 years and was last employed by Jones Motors, Lebanon, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Klingerstown; the Elk Trail Hunting Camp, Potter County; a 50-year member of the Alvin Long American Legion, Mandata; the Klingerstown Fire Company, where he served as a former truck driver; and a member of the Teamsters' Union Local 776, Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad K. Hain on March 22, 1998; two sisters, Ida Schadel and Flossie Rebuck; and a brother, Clarence 'Quelly' Brosius.
Surviving are his wife of 56-years, Ruth M. Reed Brosius; two daughters, Jocye A. Hain of RR 1, Dornsife, and Connie L. Williard of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Helen Knorr of Klingerstown; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 16, from St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Klingerstown, with the Rev. Jay B. Eickhoff officiating. Interment was in the St. Michael's Lutheran cemetery, Klingerstown.

David L. Etzweiler
David L. Etzweiler, 54, of Fruit Cove, FL, formerly of Carsonville, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at his home.
He was a son of LaVerne Hoover Colquitt of Cape Coral, FL and the late Stanley Etzweiler.
He was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Clouser.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his step-mother, Betty Etzweiler of Carsonville; two sons, Michael of Bellvue, NE and Stephen of Carsonville; a daughter, Megan of Carsonville; a brother, Dale Etzweiler of Carsonville; half-brother, Kevin Yeager of Milton; and half-sister, Cindy Bras of Zephyrhills, FL.
Arrangements were handled by Eternity Funeral Home, 1650 Art Museum Drive, Jacksonville, Florida.
Edward E. Green
Edward E. Green, 82, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.
Born in Beloit, Ohio, October 2, 1921, he was a son of the late Frederick A. and Hattie Dettinburn Green.
He was a staff sergeant in the Army, having served in World War II with Battery A 590th Field Artillery Battalion. He performed duties with anti-aircraft and coast artillery in the United States, Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He also served in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Amo, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon.
He had been employed as a fleet supervisor for the Pepsi Corp. He drove a coach bus for the Naval Academy in Annapolis, a school bus for Newhurst, Pine Grove, and had also been a mechanic.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, and the Annapolis Masonic Lodge 089, A.F.&A.; M.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Norma Jeanne Jordan; a son, Dr. Charles E. Green of Schuylkill Haven; two daughters, Patricia A. Green of Anaheim, Calif. and Audrey J. Levy of Chesapeake, Va.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a nephew.
Graveside services were held Monday, April 19, at Hillcrest Memorial cemetery Inc., Annapolis, Md. Hardesty Funeral Home, Annapolis, was in charge of arrangements. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of local arrangements.
John E. Heim
John E. Heim, 69, of Millersburg, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Wormleysburg, he was a son of the late Thomas Heim and Goldie Thompson Heim Carl, who survives him of Harrisburg.
He was retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union No. 520.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, John E. and a brother, Thomas.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Evelyn Zimmerman Heim; a son, Michael of Lancaster, CA; two daughters, Melanie Long of Millersburg and Peggy Mae Heim of Easton; a sister, Kathy Heim of Harrisburg; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 17, at Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg.

Sara M. Matter
Sara M. Matter, 84, of Homeland Center in Harrisburg, formerly of Millersburg, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at the center.
Born in Millersburg, she was a daughter of the late Lenten and Maud Row Strohecker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a Navy Veteran of World War II.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance C. Matter; and a brother, Edgar Strohecker.
Surviving are a son, Karl of Harrisburg; a daughter, Gale Peters of Carlisle; a sister, Mary Louise Keiper of Harrisburg; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Graveside services with military honors were held Monday, April 19, at Indiantown Gap National cemetery.

Harry Paige
Harry Paige, 88, of Upland, formerly of Girardville and Pitman, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland.
He was employed by his son at Joe Paige Auto for ten years, retiring in 1991. He was previously employed by Sun Ship Building and Drydock Co. and had started his career with bus line at former Southern Penn, which is now SEPTA, where he worked for over 30 years. He was a negotiator for the United Transportation Union. He enjoyed spending time in his hometown of Pitman, where he wrote a column for The Citizen Standard called 'Echoes of the Past.' He also wrote and published a book called 'Life With Old Han' in 1994.
He was a member of Upland Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Paige, who died in 2000; two grandchildren, James McCullough, who died in 2002, and Cynthia Cowan, who died in 200; a sister, Doris Miller; and three brothers, Joseph Paige, Arthur Paige, and Lester Paige.
Surviving are a companion and care giver, Rose Redding of Upland; two sons, Joseph Paige of Glen Mills, and Patrick Redding of South Carolina; three daughters, Edith McCullough of Marcus Hook, Ruth Ann Paige of North Wales, and Judith Paige Smith of Exton; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20, at the Upland Baptist Church. Interment was in Eastlawn cemetery, Ridley Township.

Grace H. Rudisill
Grace H. Rudisill, 93, of Tower City, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Tower City on February 17, 1911, she was a daughter of the late William and Harriet Jury Welker.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and the Christ United Methodist Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Rudisill in 1955.
Surviving are a daughter, Gladys A. Kissinger of Tower City; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; six nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Paul Baughman officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City R.D.
