Regis B. `Red' Langer
McCandless

Regis B. "Red" Langer, 88, died August 3, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Born Jan. 12, 1912 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Aloysius and Ann Neisman Langer. Mr. Langer was a retired part owner of Langer brothers Jeep in West View. Survivors include his wife Louise Renshaw Lukacs Langer; one daughter, Constance O'Lare of McCandless; two sons , Michael Langer of West View and Richard Langer of Texas ; five grandchildren; one brother, Edwin F. Langer of Cranberry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Straka Langer; three brothers , William H. Langer, Francis A. Langer and Alfred J. Langer; one sister, Bernadine King. Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Alexis Roman Catholic Church, McCandless. Burial will be in North Side Catholic Cemetery, Ross. Memorial contributions can be made to: St. Alexis Roman Catholic Church. Arrangements by THOMAS B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, Ross.

Elizabeth "Betty" McCabe
Gibsonia
Formerly of Delmont

Elizabeth "Betty" McCabe, 80, of Gibsonia, formerly of Delmont, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at the St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Gibsonia. She was born Sept. 6, 1919, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Edward and Theresa (Closkey) O'Reilly. She was a member of St. John Baptist de La Salle Church, and the retired housekeeper at the parish house. Betty was a former member of the St. John's Rosary Altar Society and Christian Mothers and the Garden Club of Delmont. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas McCabe. She is survived by her children, Geraldine Carrillo and husband, Walter, of Falls Church, Va., Michael McCabe and wife, Liz, of Gibsonia, and Mary Kay Woods and husband, Ronald, of Export; her sister, Mary Catherine Coletta of McKees Rocks; six grandchildren, Jamie, Paul and Giorgio Carrillo, Thomas McCabe, Heather and Neal Hubish; and three beautiful great-grandchildren, Ashley Shepherdson, Lenny Grebeck and Mara Carrillo. The family will receive friends and relatives at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. AT TWIN VALLEY, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, beginning Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Betty's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Baptist de La Salle Church in Delmont with the Rev. Father William C. McGuirk as celebrant. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Kevin P. Altman, supervisor, in charge of arrangements.

George M. Mellinger Sr.
Norvelt

George M. Mellinger Sr., 75, of Norvelt, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Herminie, a son of the late John and Emma Shaner Mellinger. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, he was the owner and operator of the Mellinger Trucking Company, and also held an association with the Union Apparel of Norvelt for many years. He was an active participant in the Pennsylvania Legacy Racing Series and a longtime supporter of the local auto racing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, John, Wilford and Lydia Mellinger. He is survived by his son, George M. Mellinger Jr. and his wife, Cathy Leigh Hunter Mellinger, of Greensburg RD2; his grandson, Spencer G.S. Mellinger; and a brother, Samuel Mellinger of Herminie. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Byron T. Eisaman officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Kecksburg. Sandra L. Hoffer, funeral director.

Violet Metzler
Moreno Valley, Calif.
Formerly of Greensburg

Violet Metzler, 95, of Moreno Valley, Calif., formerly of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000. She was a daughter of the late John H. and Almeda Pirl Metzler. She worked as a medical secretary for the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg, and retired as a medical secretary for Dr. Gilcrest and Dr. Lafontant. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg. She was predeceased by two brothers , James and John Metzler; and three sisters , Stella Steiner, Ruth Metzler and Lula Ramsey. Surviving are a sister, Jean Perantoni of Moreno Valley, Calif.; four brothers , Donald Metzler of Wickenburg, Ariz., Robert Metzler of Merced, Calif., Charles and Earl Metzler, both of Greensburg; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., Greensburg, in charge of arrangements.

John Edgar Murray Jr.
Charleroi

John Edgar Murray Jr., 51, of Ryan Avenue, Charleroi, passed away Thursday afternoon, Aug. 3, 2000, at his residence. John was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Charleroi, a son of Elfriede M. Oefner Murray of Everson and the late John Edgar Murray Sr., who passed away May 9, 1980. John was a highlift operator in the shipping department of the Menasha Corp. in Yukon for 30 ½ years. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant, where he was formerly active in the choir. He was also a member of the Hempfield Hunt Club, and was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School with the Class of 1967, active in the school chorus and the swim team. John is survived by his loving mother , Elfriede M. Oefner Murray of Everson; his uncle, Heinz G. Oefner and wife, Minna; his aunt, Lisa Oefner; cousins, Heidi and Herbert Reuter and their children, Saundra Apfel and Naidene Oefner, and Heinz Juegen Oefner and wife, Trudi, and their son, Swain, all of Germany. In addition to his Father , John was preceded in death by an uncle, Frederick Oefner, on Aug. 1, 1996. There will no viewing or visitation. A personalized memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724-887-5300, email: rferg<\at>a1usa.net), with Pastor Wendell Grimm officiating. Graveside committal services and inurnment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one's choice.

Del L. Pallottini
Wheeling, W.Va.
Formerly of Greensburg

Del L. Pallottini, 77, of Wheeling, W.Va., formerly of Greensburg, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000. He was born June 4, 1923, in Derry, a son of the late Alfredo and Ida Lombardi Pallottini. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a sergeant. He retired from Westmoreland Candy and Cigar Co. in Greensburg with 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Derry Borough High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Dottie" Collier Pallottini, in 1990; two brothers , Guido and Americo Pallottini; and a sister, Rose Pallottini Olsen. Surviving are a daughter, Patti Pallottini Sparachane and her husband, Nick, the mayor of Wheeling, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Nichole, Robin, Lauren, Nicholaus and Angela Sparachane; and two sisters , Theresa Matteo and Josephine Lucchetti, both of Derry. Visitation Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the ALTMEYER FUNERAL HOME, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, W.Va. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wheeling. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Western PA/WV, 2 Gateway Center, 13-N, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. You may also donate blood to the American Red Cross in memory of Del Pallottini.

Edward W. Plum Sr.
Ligonier
Formerly of Luxor

Edward W. Plum Sr., 65, of Ligonier, formerly of Luxor, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at home. He was born June 15, 1935, in Easton, a son of the late Frank and Marquerite Zazing Plum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Glenn and Gene; and two sisters , Loretta and Mary Lou. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Goswick Plum; five children, Debbie Kelsey and husband, Dave, of Hunker, Virginia Green and husband, Steve, of Omaha, Neb., Edward Jr. and wife, Chris, of Larimer, Terry and wife, Denise, of Hempfield Township and Tina Kuhns and husband, Ed, of Hempfield Township; six grandchildren, Lynn and Kelly Green, Eddie III and Alyssa Plum, Emily Plum and Cody Kuhns; a brother and two sisters , Frank Plum and Peggy Smith, both of Lady Lake, Fla., and Carol Hendra of Easton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army for three years, 2 ½ in Europe. He became a painter in 1961, serving his apprenticeship with Rowell and Bates Painting Co. He later became involved with the painters local union 409, serving as an executive board trustee for 30 years. He was a member of the Luxor United Methodist Church. He was a 35-year member of the Youngwood Sportsmen's Association and the American Legion Post 515, Latrobe. Friends will be received at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert S. Lash officiating. Interment to follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, with a military service by the Armbrust Veterans Association. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Westmoreland Hospice.

Richard E. Puza
Greensburg

Richard E. Puza, 57, of Greensburg, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 29, 1943, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Joseph and Laura Rozewska Puza. He had retired in 1999 as a correction counselor for S.C.I. in Greensburg, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg, the South Greensburg Hunt Club, and the Fort Allen Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Donna (Robertson) Puza; two daughters , Mrs. Christian (Tracy) Petersen of Greensburg and Mrs. Michael (Bonnie) Bialecki of Latrobe; a son, Rick Puza of Greensburg; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ed (Nancy) Stabryla of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Puza. Friends will be received at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Father Larry R. Kiniry as celebrant. Interment in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.

Helen Pyrick, 80, died on Friday, August 4, 2000. Beloved wife of the late William; mother of Nancy Harris; sister of Mary Harvat, Nick and Mike Roman; preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Todor Roman; brothers Raymond, Thomas, and Harry Roman, Robert and John Manton.
