Wm. Elwood Witmer
Wm. Elwood "Jim" Witmer, 85, of Millersburg, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at his residence.
Born March 22, 1919 in Upper Paxton Twp., he was a son of the late William Lloyd and Grace Boyer Witmer.
He was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, B. Eleanor Wiest Witmer; a son, Laurie; and a granddaughter, Suzanne.
Surviving are four sons, Roger, Richard, and Randy, all of Millersburg and Rex of Elizabethville; six daughters, Elsie Lenker, Bonnie Manning, Julia Nace, and Lois Teter, all of Millersburg, Peggy Moratelli of New Bern, NC, Barbara Swider of Halifax; two sisters, Anna Jane Collier of Elizabethville and Joyce Muggio of Harrisburg; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 19, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg.

Achenbach rites
Arthur A. "Bud" Achenbach, 84, died October 21, 2003, in Melbourne, FL, while June Carl Achenbach, 82, died April 5, 2004, in Rockledge, FL.
Memorial services for Arthur A. "Bud" and June Achenbach, longtime residents of Pine Grove, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove. The Rev. Roland Turnbach and the Rev. Jackie Turnbach will officiate.
Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove. H. L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
Bryant N. Artz
Bryant N. Artz, 62, of Elizabethville, died on Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Harrisburg Hospital.
He was a 20-plus year rural carrier for the U.S. Post Office and also had worked for 20 years for the former Nedrich Shirt Co., Elizabethville. He was the treasurer for the Maple Grove Cemetery Association, Elizabethville. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Elizabethville and had memberships with the Gratz VFW Post No. 2385; Elizabethville American Legion No. 404; Millersburg Moose Lodge No. 59; Life member with Reliance Hose Co. No. 1, and served 15 years as treasurer of Medic 6, both in Elizabethville.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine M. Brosius Artz; son, Kirby L. Artz of Harrisburg; a daughter, Kelly L. Stoneroad of Elizabethville; two granddaughters, Alissa R. Artz, Jenna E. Stoneroad; and grandson, Mason L. Stoneroad.
Services were held Friday, June 11, at Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, with the Rev. Roger Snyder officiating. Interment was in Gratz Union Cemetery, Gratz.

Ethel M. Breslin
Ethel M. Breslin, 93, of Lykens, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Lykens, October 21, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Margaret D. Briet Flynn.
She was retired from the local garment industry.
She was a life member of Our Lady Help of Christian Catholic Church, Lykens, and the church’s Catholic Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, who died in 1968; seven brothers; and a sister.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Margaret Perhach of Adelphia, MD; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, June 12, from her church. Interment was in the Irish Catholic Cemetery, Lykens.

Luther E. Brown
Luther E. Brown, 83, of Leck Kill, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman.
Born at Leck Kill, June 8, 1921, he was a son of the late A. Wilson and Emma Howerter Brown.
He was educated in the Leck Kill area schools. He was a retired farmer, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Klingerstown; a former member of the Klingerstown Fire Company; and the Mahantongo Fire Company, Pitman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman P. Brown, who died June 19, 1998; and a grandson, Miguel Harner, who died May 4, 1988.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Eva J. Klinger Brown; a son, Richard C. of Reading; a daughter, Sandra M. Angst of Pillow; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 11, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Klingerstown, with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. Interment was in St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery, Klingerstown.

William J. Frew
William James "Bill" Frew, 54, of Tremont, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at home.
Born in Pottsville, July 30, 1949, he was a son of Robert Frew, Tremont, and the late Madeline Minnichbach Frew. He attended parochial and public schools in Tremont before graduating from Pine Grove Area High School.
He was a Vietnam War veteran.
He retired from the Air Force and was last employed as the operator of the Tremont American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Diana Blocker; a brother, Robert; a sister, Leslie Tobin.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are two daughters, Melissa Raymond of Chula Vista, CA, and Crystal Frew of Highland Park, CA; a companion, Mary Ellen Brommer, with whom he resided; three sisters, Sandy Troup of Joliett, Bonnie Krammes of Tremont, and Jane Romberger of Pine Grove; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 18, from Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, was in charge of arrangements.
Mary J. Johns
Mary J. Johns, 75, of Gratz, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Sunbury Community Hospital.
Born in Wiconisco, July 26, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Edna Shadle Waters. She was a graduate of Wiconisco High School.
She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Loyalton.
Surviving are her husband, Marlin E.; three sons, Stan of Elizabethville, Ray of Gratz, and Roger of Van Alstyne, Texas; three brothers, Mark and George Waters, both of Wiconisco, and David Waters of Lykens, two sisters, Cleo Marlone of Millersburg, and Gail Waters of Clarks Valley; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, June at Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville, with the Rev. Edward T. D'Agostino officiating.

Dorothy R. Kline
Dorothy R. Kline, 95, of Navarre, Fla., formerly of Allentown and Pine Grove, died Saturday, June 12, 2004.
Born in Pine Grove, September 20, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Gertrude Gates Reinbold.
She graduated as valedictorian from Pine Grove High School in 1926. She then studied dramatic art and stage craft at the Braun School of Music, Pottsville.
She later taught elocution, public speaking and dance to local students.
Active in the Woman's Club, she was a past matron of the Mary E. Moore Chapter of the Eastern Star. She also acted in and directed various hometown theater productions. She wrote and presented many programs for the Eastern Star, community groups and many churches in Schuylkill and neighboring counties.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arthur G., in 1994; a sister, Parthenia Reinbold Berger.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. William R. of Navarre, and Dr. Jack A. of York; a daughter, Mary Jane Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 17, from Stephens Funeral Home Inc., Allentown.
Irene C. Koppenhaver
Irene C. Koppenhaver, 101, of Tower City, formerly of Elizabethville, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at home.
Born in Lykens, she was a daughter of the late James and Katie Beisel Troutman.
She was the oldest member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Berrysburg.
She was proceeded in death by her husband George L. Koppenhaver; and a son Bruce.
Surviving are a daughter, Sara Doe of Tower City; three sons, Larry of Manheim, Richard of Elizabethville, Paul of Terri, MT; a brother, John Troutman of Elizabethville; a sister, Florence Young of McAlisterville; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 15, at Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville. Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.
Wanda M. Miller
Wanda M. Miller, 34, of Tower City, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at home.
Born in Pottsville, November 16, 1969, she was a daughter of Kenneth R. Underkoffler Sr. of Tower City, and Sharon R. Unger Stoneroad of Halifax.
She was employed as a data entry specialist with Synertech, Harrisburg.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton, and vice president of the Williams Valley Mat Rats Elementary Wrestling Boosters.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Troy A.; a son, Shaun A., at home; a sister, Teri A. Yuschock of Tower City; a brother, Kenneth R. Underkoffler Jr. of Lykens; her step-father, Roger Stoneroad of Halifax; two step-sisters, Shannon Lyndstadt of Florida, and Victoria Underkoffler of Tower City; three step-brothers, Corey and Roger Stoneroad, both of Millersburg, and James Stoneroad of Florida; nephews, a niece, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City. The Rev. Arthur Sonnenberg will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City is in charge of arrangements.
Carrie A. Ossman
Carrie A. Ossman, 64, of Millersburg, died on Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
Born in Hunter Station, Northumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Raymond C. and Sara Harris Walborn, Sr.
She had worked in the past as a baker for the former Hales Market, Halifax and was a member of Reigle's Bible Fellowship Church, Millersburg. She served as the church Nursery Coordinator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Ossman.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Hoover of Carlisle, Dale L. Hoover of Danville; brother, Ray C. Walborn of Long Valley, NV; and a grandson.
Services were held at her church on Tuesday, June 15, with the Rev. Benjamin Brown officiating. Interment was in Reigle's Bible Fellowship Cemetery, Millersburg.
