Carol J. Myers
Carol Jean Myers, 73, of Lykens, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born in Wiconisco, Oct. 14, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Dorothy Hoke Underkoffler.

She obtained her bachelor of science and master of music degrees in music education from West Chester University and taught music at the Numidia, Upper Dauphin Area and Williams Valley school districts. Her career continued as an Associate Professor of Music Education at Millersville University until her retirement.

She was also a guest choral conductor to numerous music festivals and the Choral Director for American Music Abroad for 16 years.

She was a member of Lykens United Methodist Church, where for more than 40 years she directed the church choirs, featuring five vocal and three handbell choirs. She also served as guest choir director for other mid-state area churches.

She was past president of Music Educators National Conference Eastern Division (13 states), Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Wiconisco High School Alumni Association and was to be awarded the Outstanding Alumnus of West Chester University in May 2005.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, of Dean Myers; three children, Jeff Myers of Washington, D.C., Jill Troutman of Hershey, and Jan Myers of Pacific Grove, Calif.; five grandchildren, Ronnie and Eric Takamura, Adriane Myers and Taylor and Todd Troutman; and a great-grandchild, Kalani Takamura.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Lykens United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith J. Schmuck and the Rev. Kevin E. Hughes officiating. There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carol J. Myers Memorial Music Education Scholarship, c/o Development Office, Millersville University, PO Box 1002, Millersville, PA 17551. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, is in charge of arrangements.

Bruce F. Nye
Bruce F. Nye, 75, of Lykens, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at home.
Born in Valley View, July 4, 1929, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Ney Nye.

He was a retired employee of the former American Heat Reclaiming Corp.

He was a member of Liberty Hose Company No. 2 and American Legion Post 124.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and Timothy Nye.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley A. Miller Nye; four sons, Gary Nye of Tower City, Gerald Nye of Carsonville, Kirk Nye of Phoenix, Ariz., and Greg Nye of Lykens; four sisters, Shirley Krepich, Elaine Kreiser, Gail Nye and Marilyn Nye, all of Lykens; four grandsons; and two granddaughters.

Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 25, at John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna L. Readinger
Anna L. Readinger, 79, of Williamstown, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
Born in Lykens, Oct. 6, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Mary Troutman Hentz.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church and the council of Catholic women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T., in 1992; four brothers, William, John, Donald and Paul Hentz; two sisters, Mary and Margaret Hentz.

Surviving are four sons, Joseph E., John T. and Gregory P., all of Williamstown, and Michael W. of Sheridan; three daughters, Rosemary A. Eshelman of Wiconisco, Anna M. Romberger and Eileen A. Knorr, both of Williamstown; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, Feb. 25, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church by the Rev. Tri Luong. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the church at 140 E. Market St., Williamstown, PA 17098. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Boyd R. Strohecker
Boyd R. Strohecker, 90, of Halifax, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at his residence.
Born June 30, 1914, he was a son of the late Joel and Carrie Adams Strohecker.

He was a retired machinist at Conrail and a former coal miner.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Pauline R. Hoover Strohecker; a son, Jack Strohecker; a daughter, Soraya; seven brothers; two sisters; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Strohecker.

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Yablin of Glenmore; three sons, Boyd, Jr. of Halifax, Dean of Lykens, Francis of Halifax; sister, Eva Wolfe of Williamstown; brother, Barney of Sunbury; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and five step- great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.

Services were held Saturday, Feb. 26, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, with Rev. George Barto III, officiating. Interment was in Jacob's U.B. Cemetery, Halifax, RD.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 98 S. Enola Drive, P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025-0266. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Audrey B. Zerbe
Audrey Barbara Zerbe, 82, of Fredericksburg, VA, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA.
Born in Berwin, Illinois, Sept. 21, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Gertrude Schmidt Johnson.

She was a graduate of North Hollywood High School, Hollywood, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Zerbe.

Surviving are two daughters Trudy J. Zimmerman, Fredericksburg, VA and Lisa T. Schade of Stow, OH; a brother Gene Johnson, Chico, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa, with Rev Curtis H.E. Zemencik officiating. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Miriam L. Adams
Miriam L. Adams, 82, a resident of the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, formerly of Millersburg, died Sunday, August 1, 2004, at the village.
She was a daughter of the late Nevin F. and Maude M. Phillips Henninger.

She was a lifetime member of David's Church, Killinger, where she was a former Kitchen Coordinator, Sunday school teacher and church choir member. She was a past member of the former Killinger Grange.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen A. Adams; and by a brother, Charles Henninger.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth A. Adams and daughter, Wanda L. Radel, both of Millersburg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at her church on Thursday, August 5, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in David's Church Cemetery, Killinger. Viewings will be held at Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Millersburg on Wednesday, August 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. and at her church on Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to her church at 1027 Route 25, Millersburg, PA 17061. Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Millersburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Jean B. Barnes
Jean B. Barnes, 73, of Ashland, formerly of Lykens, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Philadelphia, December 13, 1930, she was a daughter of the late George and Ruth Swartz Johnson.

She was a retired supervisor from the New Cumberland Army Depot.

She was of the Protestant faith, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the Military Order of Purple Heart Auxiliary, and the TREA Senior Citizens League.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E., on October 17, 2003; an infant son, Jeffrey Drebot, in 1962.

Surviving are four sons, Michael Drebot of New Cumberland, Jody Drebot of Wiconisco, and John and Todd Drebot, both of Lykens; two brothers, George Crossley, New York, and Roland Johnson of Honey Brook; a sister, Mary Jane Burda of Schuylkill Haven; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 3, in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Phillips W. Brooks, D.D.S.
Dr. Phillips W. Brooks, D.D.S., 72, of Halifax, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at home.
He was the owner of the P. W. Brooks Dental Practice; a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, Philadelphia and a former Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was a member of the P.D.A.; A.D.A.; Harrisburg Dental Society and P.S.I. Omega Dental Fraternity of the University of Pennsylvania.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly J. Brooks; a daughter, Penne Weicker of Connecticut; a son, Kyle Brooks of Philadelphia; two step-daughters, Tami Creech of Smyrna, Delaware and Cari Potteiger of Halifax; and six granddaughters.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation.

John P. Brosius
John P. Brosius, 76, of Millersburg, died Thursday July 29, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Mifflin Twp. he was a son of the late Carlos and Maude Maurer Brosius. He was a retired supervisor from general services of the State of PA. He helped build the gazebo at the Governor's mansion. He was a member of the carpenter's local union No. 287; Susquehanna Lodge No. 364 F&AM; Salem Lutheran Church in Killinger where he served on the church council and as a deacon; his hobbies included square dancing, CB radios; woodworking and crossword puzzles.

He was preceded in death by a brother Melvin and two sisters Fern McCormick and Frances Beaver.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years Betty L. Miller Brosius; a daughter Donna M. Conz of Hummelstown; a brother Blair and a sister Mary Deibler, both of Millersburg; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday August 3, at Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg. Interment was in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Killinger.

Memorial donations may be made to a person's favorite charity. Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mae J. Diehl
Mae J. "Nanny" Diehl, 76, of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg.
Born in Barry Township, June 22, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Carrie M. Beury Bush.

She was a graduate of the former Hegins Township High School.

She was retired from the former F.W. Wolworth Co. in the Colonial Park Mall and also worked at Cromwell's Nursery after retirement.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Harrisburg, a former girl scout leader for Hemlock Council, Harrisburg, a lifetime Hershey Bears fan and a member of the Toth Class at her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer A. Diehl who died in 1991, and by two brothers, Boyd J. Bush and Ned Busch.

Surviving are two daughters, Sherry M. Adams of Harrisburg, and Lynn M. Diehl of Harrisburg, two sisters, Eva J. Linebaugh of Mechanicsburg and Ann S. Miller of Gig Harbor, Washington, a grandson, Ryan L. Diehl of Harrisburg, a granddaughter, Jamie L. Adams of Harrisburg and a great-grandson, Brandon L. Diehl of Harrisburg.

There will be private graveside services at the convenience of the family.

Michael J. Durkin
Michael J. Durkin, 54, of Tower City, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his home.
Born in Lykens on June 24, 1950, he was a son of the late John and Violet M. Wolfgang Durkin.

He was employed as a die repairman at TYCO, Lickdale. He was of the Catholic faith.

He was a graduate of the former Porter Tower High School, a member of the Ham Radio Club and the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1603, Tower City. He was also a former EMT.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Mione.

Surviving are his brothers, John P. and Edward R., both of Tower City and his sister, Mary Ellen Moyer of Camp Hill and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, August 1, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with the Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Williamstown.
