Carol G. Williams

Carol G. Williams, 77, of Waynesburg, died Thursday, February 11, 2010, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.

She was born April 2, 1932, in Lorain, Ohio, a daughter of the late Cleland and Emma Allan Garber.

Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Avon Lake High School and attended Kent State University.

On October 17, 1953, she married Russell R. Williams, who survives.

She was a homemaker and had resided in Waynesburg since 1963.

Mrs. Williams was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg, where she served as a part-time secretary and was the editor of The Spire.

She was the last founding member of the theater group The Carriage House Players, in which she acted and produced. For 32 years, she played the part of Mrs. Claus in the Waynesburg Christmas parade and was affectionately known as "Nonna."

For many years, she was chairwoman of the Greene County American Red Cross. She was one of the founding board members of the Humane Society of Greene County. Mrs. Williams also served as a board member for the Head Start program of Community Action Southwest. She was a member of the Social Service League and the Literary Guild.

She was a voracious reader and enjoyed the company of her pets.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Dean Williams (Katherine) of Seven Fields and David W. Williams of Waynesburg; a daughter, Susan W. Stoy of Waynesburg; a granddaughter; and two step-grandchildren.

Deceased are a brother and a sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg Faith Promise Fund, P.O. Box 446, Waynesburg, PA 15370, or to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.

Virginia A. Peters

Virginia A. Peters, 92, of Waynesburg, died Friday, February 12, 2010, in her home.

She was born February 14, 1917, in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of the late Rev. L.W. Peters Sr. and Elizabeth Whitmire Peters.

Miss Peters graduated from Berea College in Kentucky and earned a bachelor's degree in library science at the University of North Carolina.

She was a librarian at Montgomery County Library in Silver Spring, Md., from 1942 until her retirement.

Miss Peters resided most of her life in Silver Spring, where she was a member of Woodside United Methodist Church and Ouota Club. She moved to Waynesburg in 2007, where she attended First United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed traveling and visited every continent on the globe.

Surviving are a brother, the Rev. Robert L. Peters of Waynesburg, with whom she had made her home; a sister-in-law, Mabel Peters of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Dr. Richard Peters, John Peters and William Lester Peters Jr.; and a sister, Jeanette Nowlin.

Hallie McCollum Jr.

Hallie McCollum Jr., 87, of Sycamore, died Friday, February 12, 2010, in his home, after a lengthy illness.

He was born June 17, 1922, in Sycamore, a son of the late J. Hallie McCollum Sr. and Wilma Hoge McCollum.

On November 9, 1942, he married Wilma Headley McCollum, who survives.

Mr. McCollum was a farmer and worked as an equipment operator in pipeline construction from 1949 until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines from 1942 to 1946.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Larry McCollum (Ashlee) of Waynesburg and Russell L. McCollum (Linda) and John C. McCollum (Mary), both of Sycamore; a daughter, Peggy Roberts (Henry) of Holbrook; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis McCollum of Waynesburg; and two sisters, Imogene Riggle of Genesee and Juanita Denman of Washington.

Deceased are a brother, Clifford McCollum, and an infant sister, Clara Jane McCollum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, or to a favorite charity.

Loreen Spragg

Loreen Spragg, 85, of Rogersville, Mo., passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Mo.

She was born July 22, 1924, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Perry and Opal McCracken Riggle.

She was united in marriage to Robert M. Spragg, who died in 2006.

Also deceased is a brother, Lloyd Riggle.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Spragg and wife Dixie and Randy Spragg and wife Lisa, both of Rogersville, Mo.; a sister, Diane Younken and husband Craig of Waynesburg; a brother, David Riggle and wife Joann of Mather; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dawson of Springfield, Mo.; two grandsons, Michael Spragg and wife Jessica and Jeffrey Spragg, both of Rogersville; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews.

She also leaves many friends.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Hazel Hughes Stockdale

Hazel Hughes Stockdale, 85, of Pinellas Park, Fla., formerly of Greene County (Holbrook), died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010, in St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was born March 13, 1924, in Aleppo Township, Greene County, a daughter of Albert Charles and Olive Celeste Weimer Hughes, and had been a resident of Pinellas Park since 1956.

Mrs. Stockdale was an active member of the Pinellas Park Community Center, held a bowling average of 150 and was an avid bingo player as long as her health permitted.

She was a 1942 graduate of Aleppo High School and a 1944 graduate of West Virginia Business School.

Mrs. Stockdale was a former employee of the Internal Revenue Service in Pittsburgh and First National Bank in Waynesburg.

On July 9, 1951, she married George Raymond (Mike) Stockdale, who died May 22, 1993.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda, wife of Danny McCurdy of St. Petersburg; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Miller of Rogersville and Dorothy, wife of Dwight Durbin, of West Alexander; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son who died in infancy; four sisters, Alma Riggs, Evelyn Throckmorton and Mary Jane and Mary Lou Hughes; and two brothers, Harold W. (Pete) Hughes Sr. and James A. Hughes.

Judith Ann Kachersky

Judith Ann Kachersky, 56, of Carmichaels, died Friday, February 12, 2010, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 4, 1954, in Waynesburg, a daughter of Irene Policz Kachersky of Carmichaels and the late Nicholas Kachersky.

A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Carmichaels, she worked in several area restaurants as a waitress, and also did sewing work at a local factory.

She enjoyed playing bingo and loved her pet cat, Princess.

In addition to her mother, surviving are a daughter, Sharna Knapp (Scott Broadwater); a brother, Nick R. Kachersky and friend Kathy Reddin of Jefferson; and a sister-in-law, Donna Kachersky of Rices Landing; three nieces; and two great-nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her father, are her husband, John Knapp; and a brother, Daniel M. Kachersky.

Robert L. Orndoff

Robert L. Orndoff, 48, of Dilliner, died at 11:09 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010, in Dilliner.

He was born Saturday, July 22, 1961, in Aliquippa, a son of George C. Orndoff Jr. of Dilliner and the late Margaret E. Allshouse Orndoff.

Mr. Orndoff was a member of Mt. Morris Sportsman Club.

He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He also enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Orndoff worked for Morgantown Technical Service as a high pressure washer, cleaning coal mining shields. He also was a dry wall installer.

In addition to his father, surviving are his girlfriend, Billie J. Hodgson of Dilliner; a daughter, Terissa Orndoff at home; three sons, Robert Orndoff and Nicholas Orndoff, both at home, and Chris Allen of Sycamore; three grandchildren; a sister, Rose Durbin of Dilliner; three brothers, Albert J. Orndoff, Herman S. Orndoff and Karl P. Orndoff, all of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Isabel M. Rankin

Isabel M. Rankin, 90, of Carmichaels, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, in her home, following a brief illness.

She was born March 15, 1919, in Dunlevy, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Isabel H. Courtley Crowl.

Mrs. Rankin was a graduate of Charleroi High School and went on to receive her teaching degree from the former California Teachers College.

She resided most of her life in the Carmichaels area, where she taught until her retirement in Central and Crucible schools in Carmichaels Area School District.

Mrs. Rankin and her family enjoyed traveling in their motor home and were members of Mt. Laurel Rambler Camping Club. She also was a longtime member of Rices Landing Boat Club.

She was a member of Carmichaels First United Methodist Church.

On February 27, 1943, she married Raymond L. Rankin, who died April 3, 2008.

Surviving are a son, William L. Rankin of Carmichaels; a daughter, Susan C. Frye and husband Victor of Carmichaels; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Robert R. Rankin, and a sister, Dorothy Crowl.

Helen G. Six

Helen G. Six, 96, of Greensboro, died Friday, February 12, 2010, with her family by her side in Donnell House, Washington, following a brief illness.

She was born April 9, 1913, in Mapletown, Monongahela Township, a daughter of the late George Swazey and Lillian (Barb) Gapen.

Mrs. Six was a graduate of Mapletown High School. She received her degree in education from Waynesburg College. She taught in Greensboro and Sugar Grove schools in the Southeastern Greene School District for 20 1/2 years, until her retirement in 1975.

She was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was an active member on the church board.

Mrs. Six was a member and past worthy matron of the former Emerald Chapter 135, Order of the Eastern Star in Waynesburg. At the time of her death, she was a member of Martha V. Paul Chapter 404, Order of the Eastern Star in Washington. She also served as a mother advisor for Rainbow Girls.

She was a member of Carmichaels Grange 1389 and Daughters of the American Revolution.

On February 20, 1937, she married Harley Thadeus Six, who died November 9, 1978.

Surviving are a brother, John Gapen and wife Irene of Waynesburg, and several nieces and nephews.

She also leaves three dear friends and caregivers, Olivia Burich, Lois Burwell and Clara Mae Henry.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two brothers, George Barb Gapen and S. Clarke Gapen.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mapletown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 502, Greensboro, PA 15338; or Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.

Helen Evosirch, 80, of Clarksville, died Monday, January 18, 2010, in her home.

She was born November 15, 1929, in Portersville, a daughter of the late Sylvester and Nellie Barron Penjamin.

Mrs. Evosirch grew up in Mather and was a graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School, Class of 1947.

She was a homemaker and at one time worked at Greenway Manufacturing in Waynesburg.

Mrs. Evosirch was a member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Clarksville.

On June 27, 1953, she married Rudy Evosirch, who died February 21, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters, Michelle Evosirch of Mather and Diane Checonsky and husband Paul of Grand Junction, Colo.; a son, Thomas Evosirch and wife Susan of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren, who were the world to her; a sister, Claudia Hawley and husband John of Columbia Station, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, who will have many memories of the good times they shared with her; and several adopted grandsons that were friends of Rudy, who loved her goodies, which meant a lot to her. They were always there for "GA."

She also leaves behind her loving dog, Blackie.

Deceased is a brother, Thomas Penjamin.
