Jason Crum

Fairchance man served in Somalia

Jason Crum, 32, of Fairchance, formerly of Smithfield, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, as a result of an accident.

He was born Oct. 17, 1971, in Uniontown, son of James William and Catherine Krepps Crum, of Smithfield.

Jason was a graduate of Albert Gallatin High School, Class of 1991.

He served with the U.S. Marines in Somalia and was awarded the Rifle Badge Marksman/National Defense Service Medal/The Sea Service Deployment Ribbon/The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal/The Good Conduct Medal/The United Nations Medal/The Joint Meritorious Unit Award/Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Star, and he had been employed with Townsend Tree Service.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, C. J. Crum of Waynesburg, one sister and two brothers, Stephen Patterson and wife, Della of Farmington, Deborah Croftcheck of Smock, and Bill Crum and wife, Sherry of Smithfield; a special friend, Sharon Hawk; his paternal grandmother, Minnie Frances Crum of Uniontown; one uncle and three aunts, Donald Edward Crum of Mt. Braddock, Betty Casserly of Uniontown, Hazel Easter and husband, Paul of Florida, and Pearl Oliver and husband, Dwaine of Arizona; and six nephews and nieces.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Homer and Pearl Krepps; his paternal grandfather, Harry Donald Crum; and his uncle Lloyd Krepps.

William A. Roberts Sr.

Carmichaels graduate served in Korea

William A. Roberts Sr., 73, of Carmichaels, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

He was born December 9, 1930, in Cumberland Township, a son of Ira and Jesse Rhodes Roberts.

Mr. Roberts was a 1949 graduate of Carmichaels High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Bataan during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Roberts was a lineman, maintenance foreman and vegetation control foreman for West Penn Power Co. from 1953 to 1993. He drove a bus for Laidlaw in Jefferson-Morgan School District and was owner/operator of IRA Transport Co. from 1995 to 2002. He was a farmer from 1970 until his death.

On October 17, 1953, he married Freda A. Davis, who survives.

Also surviving are five children, Jean Carol Puskarich Phipps of Fairmont, W.Va., Yvonne L. Suppok of Carmichaels, William A. Roberts Jr. of Carmichaels, Daniel P. Roberts of Greensboro and John L. Roberts of Nemacolin; four brothers, Ira Roberts Jr. of Belmont, N.H., Harlon Roberts of Wheeling, W.Va., Gene Roberts of Aliquippa and Dennis Roberts of Seattle, Wash.; five sisters, Elizabeth DeLuca of Akron, Ohio, Mary M. Harris of Carmichaels, Maxine M. Celli of Greensboro, Joy A. Eastham of Washington, D.C., and Patty Robinson of Carmichaels; 12 grandchildren, Amanda Hewitt, Joie B. Puskarich, Wendy S. Pratt-Lowry, Kimberly Y. Barton, Rebecca Mikalik, Christopher King, Natasha Celli, Jarret P. Roberts, Nathan A. Roberts, Sarah A. Roberts, Kristian Jon Roberts and Rachel C. Roberts; and nine great-grandchildren.

Deceased is a sister, Marlene Roberts, who died in infancy.

Grace L. Stewart

Longtime resident of Carmichaels

Grace L. “Tick” Stewart, 76, of Carmichaels, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, at her home.

She was born September 6, 1927, in Confluence, a daughter of Jacob Harman and Daisy Fern Mickey Younkin.

Mrs. Stewart resided in Carmichaels most of her life and was baptized at Mather Christian Church.

She worked for 23 years for A & P in Springfield, Va.

Mrs. Stewart was an avid bingo player and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and ceramics.

On April 25, 1946, she married Charles Stewart, who died July 4, 1991.

Surviving are a son, James W. Stewart of Burr Ridge, Ill.; a daughter, Connie F. Conway, with whom she made her home in Carmichaels; six grandchildren, Craig Allen Halliday, Corbin James, Brett and Adam Stewart and Tasha and Tonya Conway; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Eugene and George Younkin; and a sister, Janet Crockett.

Pauline Roman

Member of First United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris

Pauline Roman, 80, of Mt. Morris, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, April 11, 2004, in her home.

She was born December 20, 1923, in Clintwood, Va., a daughter of Butler and Lillie Branham Fleming.

Mrs. Roman was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Morris and a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Jenkins (Ky.) High School.

Her husband of 58 years, Nick Roman, survives.

Also surviving are two sons, John Roman of Oak Hill, W.Va., and Randy Roman of Mt. Morris; a daughter, Rita Roman Sailer of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Stacy Roman of Sarasota, Fla., and Christopher Sailer of Hendersonville, Tenn.; three brothers, Oren Fleming of Pound, Va., and Charles and Jack Fleming, both of Kingsport, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sisters, Faustina Gilliam and Helen Meade; and two brothers, Freddie and Hofland Fleming.

Margaret A. Campbell Rudolph

Member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Virginia

Margaret A. (Peg) “Granny” Campbell Rudolph, 88, of Mt. Morris, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born November 10, 1915, in McDonald, a daughter of John G. and Margaret B. Worstel Dick.

Mrs. Rudolph was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morgantown.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, reading and collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Her first husband, Frank M. Campbell, died June 14, 1966. Her second husband, Robert A. Rudolph, died October 17, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Nelita Harbison of Apopka, Fla., and Alice Vietmeier of Bethel Park; two sons, Arvin Campbell of Mt. Morris and Frank Campbell of Rochester, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Ruby Hewitt of Mt. Morris; two stepsons, William L. Rudolph of Manassas, Va., and Middleton A. Rudolph of Woodbridge, Va.; nine stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, George Campbell; a granddaughter, Beth Campbell; a sister, Tinny Davis; and four brothers, Charles, John, James and Robert Dick.

Matilda A. Skobel

Member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish

Matilda A. (Tillie) Skobel, 82, of Belle Vernon, formerly of Millsboro, died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

She was born June 23, 1921, in Shoaf, a daughter of Paul and Julia Bobak Zoldak.

Mrs. Skobel was a member of Parish of St. Oliver Plunkett and Center on the Hill Senior Citizens in Washington Township.

For 20 years, she was employed by B&B Hardware in Fredericktown.

Her husband, John Skobel Sr., died July 22, 1974.

Surviving are a daughter, Rose Shashura of Fredericktown; four sons, John Jr. of Vestaburg, Andrew of St. Petersburg, Fla., Charles of Clarksville and Michael Skobel of Belle Vernon; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Frank Zoldak of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three sisters, Mary Kolat, Julia Yonchett and Anna Gasti.

Andrew Smitley

Andrew Smitley, 73, of Fairchance, died unexpectedly on Thursday evening, April 8, 2004, in Uniontown Hospital.

He was born August 8, 1930, in Outcrop, Springhill Township, Fayette County, son of Bute Smitley and Elizabeth Hiles Smitley.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Helen G. Smitley, grandson, Charles R. Myers, brother and sister-in-law, Edgar “Peak” and Emma Smitley, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Leroy Cummings, and sister-in-law, Ethel Smitley.

Surviving are his loving son, Anthony “Buck” Smitley and wife Sandra Faye Smitley of Fairchance; loving companion, Betty Collins of Fairchance; two granddaughters: Kimberly Clark and Robin Mehal and husband Anthony; brothers and sisters: Tom Smitley, Smithfield, Aretta Jenkins, Masontown, Claudine Lincoln and husband Sonny of Gans, and Paul Smitley and wife Judy of Point Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

Julia Tomaceski

Homemaker was member of St. Thomas Catholic Church

Julia Tomaceski, 82, of Clarksville, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 8, 1921, in Williamstown, East Bethlehem Township, a daughter of Louis Smozik and Mary Turnich Chris Smozik.

Mrs. Tomaceski was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Clarksville. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church of Clarksville.

Her caregiver for the past couple of years was Isabela Danta Bernys.

Her husband, Joseph G. Tomaceski, died July 26, 1990.

Surviving are a two sons, Joseph L. Tomaceski of Washington and David J. Tomaceski of Frederick, Md.; a daughter, Patricia A. Tomaceski Wood of Clarksville; three grandsons, Joseph M. and Justin L. Tomaceski and Brandon Wood; and a sister, Ann Reposky of Clarksville.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Sandra M. Tomaceski; a sister, Elizabeth Dudla; and four brothers, Mike Smozik and Mike, George and Andrew Chris.

McClese I. Ermacoff

Member of Upper Buffalo Presbyterian Church

McClese Irene Ermacoff, 86, of Washington, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.

She was born February 21, 1918, in Waynesburg, a daughter of Joseph and Nellie Dunn Huffman.

Mrs. Ermacoff was a graduate of Waynesburg High School.

She was a member of Upper Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Ladies Missionary Society.

Mrs. Ermacoff’s first husband, Edward Black, was killed in action during World War II.

On March 7, 1946, she married John Ermacoff, who died September 8, 1996.

Surviving are a son, Edward Black of Washington; three daughters, Carol McKee of Pleasant Hills, Nancy Tustin of Hickory and Kathy Ermacoff of Washington; two sisters, Patricia Huffman of Washington and JoAnn Musto of Somerset; four grandchildren, Lisa Evans, Amy Vollbrecht, John McKee and Richard Tustin; and six great-grandchildren.

Deceased are three brothers, Richard and Joseph Huffman and a brother who died in infancy; and a sister, Betty Ramsey.

Betty Jane Forman

Member of First United Methodist Church, Carmichaels

Betty Jane Forman, 81, of Carmichaels, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., as a result of injuries suffered in an auto accident April 7.

She was born May 29, 1922, in Connellsville, Fayette County, a daughter of Lawrence C. and Myrtle Mary Poiser Dowling.

Mrs. Forman was retired from Greenway Manufacturing Co. in Waynesburg.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union, both of Carmichaels, and St. Hugh Senior Citizens.

Her husband, James W. Forman, died in 1969.

Surviving are three children, Darlene Wright of Waynesburg, James A. Forman of Clarksville and Derek Forman of Carmichaels; five grandchildren, Cathleen Wardle, Kelly Forman, Terri Wallace, Sherri Grim and Tracie Campbell; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbert Dowling of Uniontown; and a sister, Dolores Haky of Uniontown.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, are four brothers, William, Eugene, Donald and Robert Dowling; and two grandchildren, Michael Benci Jr. and Jammie Laray Forman.
