Harry F. Hettler
Harry F. Hettler, 89, formerly of Long Run, Franklin Township, died Tuesday in the Gnaden Huetten Nursing and Convalescent Center, Lehighton.
He was a laborer for the Lehighton Water Authority for several years before retiring.
Born in Beaver Run, he was a son of the late Ira A. and Katie C. (Grow) Hettler.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are two sisters, Stella L., wife of William Brown of Lehighton, and Gertrude E. Lapp of Northampton; a brother, Walter L. of Palmerton; and nieces and nephews.
The Richard M. Miller Funeral Home, 137 Fairview St., Union Hill, Lehighton, is in charge of the arrangements.
Far Lee
Far Lee, 82, of Chestnut Hill Township, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Tuesday in his home. He was the husband of the late Felicitas (Roxas) Lee.
He was a baker in Manilla, the Philippine Islands, for 30 years.
Born in Canton, China, he was a son of the late Yolk Wan Lee and Yuk Kui Yan.
Surviving are a son, Vinzon R. of Effort; five daughters, Dolores Morgan of Atlanta, Ga., Peggy Ho of Toronto, Canada, Julie DeVilla of Seattle, Wash., Emily Hoang of Alhambra, Calif., and Fely Deleon of Vallejo, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
Raymond H. Herman
Raymond H. Herman, 76, of Breinigsville, died Tuesday in the Mosser Nursing Home, Trexlertown. He was the husband of Annetta A. (Stephen) Herman. They observed their 28th wedding anniversary last August.
He was manager of the former Leh's Park and Shop, Allentown, for 24 years before retiring in 1984.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Irwin) Herman.
He was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury United Church of Christ, Allentown.
Herman was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Sandy, wife of Michael Daumer of Schnecksville, and Debra, wife of Randy Bernhard of Slatington; three sisters, Viola Laubach and Janice, wife of Dale Bentz, both of Allentown, and Marilyn, wife of Jack Shollenberger of Coplay; two brothers, Richard of Allentown and Robert of Wescosville; a stepson, Gary Wetherhold of Alpharetta, Ga.; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Josephine L. Flanagan
Josephine L. Flanagan, 77, of Bel Air, Md., died Tuesday in the Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, Md.
Prior to retiring, she was a waitress.
Born in Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Clara (Weaver) Gallagher.
Surviving are a daughter, Anna Marie, wife of Thomas Baker Sr. of Bel Air; a son George; four sisters, Grace Boyle of Tamaqua, Claire in Georgia and Irene Mann and Patricia Smith, both in Pennsylvania; four brothers, Francis in California, Jack in Georgia and James and Ronald, both in Pennsylvania; and eight grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son John.
Mrs. George Miller
Mrs. Dorothy J. Miller, 75 Main St., Upper Lehigh, died Tuesday morning in the Butler Valley Manor, Drums, Luzerne County. She was the wife of George Miller.
Born in Freeland, she was a daughter of the late George and Kathryn (Jones) Mealling.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Freeland, and the Mystery Sisters of the parish.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Sandra, wife of Kenneth Barber of Holland, N.Y., Allyne, wife of Frederick Ray of Weatherly, and Cynthia, wife of William Van Horn of Freeland; seven grandchildren, a great-grandchild, a niece and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Mealling.
Mrs. Margaret E. Rimbach
Mrs. Margaret E. Rimbach, 92, formerly of Tamaqua, died Thursday in the Hometown Nursing Center, Tamaqua R.2. She was the widow of George H. Rimbach Sr. Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Sarah (Penglase) Wook. She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Tamaqua. Surviving are a son, George H. Jr. of State College; and a brother, Alan Wook of Tamaqua. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kermit and John. The Robert C. Reeser Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of the arrangements.
Marian Baran
Marian Baran, 78, of 318 W. Front St., Lansford, died Wednesday evening in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She worked in New Jersey and New York in the garment industry. The deceased was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Gawlick) Baran. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lansford. Surviving are five sisters, Agnes Sterusky and Florence Sverchek, both of Lansford, Catherine, wife of Jack Bortnick of Coaldale, Lori, wife of Court Granger of Allentown, and Sister Joselle of Shenandoah; two brothers, Joseph of Lansford and A. Paul of Odenton, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, John, Michael, Stanley, Mieczyslaw and the Rev. L. Joseph; and a sister, Stella Lake. The Roche Funeral Home-McNamara Chapel, 3 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Joseph Decker
Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Decker, 77, of Green Cove Road, Bakersville, N.C., died Tuesday in the Spruce Pine Community Hospital following several months of declining health. She was the wife of Joseph Decker. Born in Shelbyville, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Estelle (Moore) Snell. She was a 1941 honors graduate of Vanderbilt University and had been very active in the business community before her death, being a former employee of American Airlines and a co-owner of Chestnut Ridge Farms, Inc., Saylorsburg. She and her husband moved to Bakersville in 1987 and made their home in the Green Cove Community, where she became involved in the community as a member of The Mitchell County Historical Society. Mrs. Decker was a member of the DAR, the Tri-Delta Sorority of Vanderbilt University and the Bakersville United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, John Moore Decker of Greenville, S.C. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Farrar, who died in 1985. Funeral services were held today in Bakersville.
Glenn A. Meyers
Glenn A. Meyers, 59, of 2714 Jean Drive, Bath, died Thursday in the St. Luke Hospital's Allentown Campus. He was the husband of Shirley A. (LaBar) Meyers. They observed their eighth wedding anniversary last October. He was a custodian for the Keystone Savings Bank, Bethlehem, for 19 years. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Lester W. and Ida (Mack) Meyers. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, and a life member of the Petersville Rod and Gun Club, East Allen Township. Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Louise, wife of Shane Snyder of Tatamy; two sisters, Bernice M., wife of Ralph W. Frantz of Bethlehem, and Grace, wife of William Ladew of Fayetteville, N.Y.; a brother Carl of Southampton, Bucks County; a stepson, Randy Bellis of Palmerton; and five grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son Glenn.
Kenneth J. Ressler
Kenneth J. "Kenny" Ressler, 21, of 4987 Pine Grove Circle, Wescosville, formerly of 951 Cedar St., Allentown, died Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was a graduate of Western Center for Technical Studies, Limerick, Montgomery County. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Jeffrey E. Ressler, with whom he resided, and Bridget A. (Confer) Long of Palm. The deceased was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Allentown. He was a life scout with the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Nathan Ressler of Allentown; paternal grandfather, Kenneth E. Ressler, at home; maternal grandfather, John J. Confer, maternal grandmother, Winifred Craig, and maternal step-grandfather, Charles Craig, all of Slatington; his stepfather, James W. Long of Palm; and two stepsisters, Krista and Heather Long, and a stepbrother, Robert Long, all of Pottstown.
Woodrow P. Greene Sr.
Woodrow P. Greens Sr., 77, of Northampton, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of the late Thelma C. (Druckenmiller) Greene. He was a boiler man for the former Atlas Cement Company, Northampton, for 15 years before retiring in 1980, and previously was a self-employed house painter and paperhanger for 35 years. Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Charles H. Sr. and Christina M. (Smith) Greene. He was a member of the Cherryville Fire Company. Greene was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Panama and the Aleutian Islands. Surviving are a son, Woodrow P. Jr. of Northampton; two daughters, Phyllis L., wife of Elvert H. Hammer of Duncannon, Perry County, and Susan A., wife of Clifford W. Eckhart of Northampton; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Sandra.
Jeremiah D. Trostle
Jeremiah D. Trostle, 14, of 417 W. Cedar St., Allentown, was dead on arrival Wednesday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after being struck by a car on Hamilton Boulevard in Salisbury Township. He was a 10th grade honor student at Allen High School, Allentown, where he played basketball and volleyball. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Paul V. and Dawn E. (Warner) Trostle, with whom he resided. Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Sarabeth, at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Trostle of Treichlers; and maternal grandparents, Irene Warner of Bath and Seldon Warner of Danielsville.
Mrs. Irene Viola Zellers
Mrs. Irene Viola Zellers, 85, of 600 E. Main St., Lititz, Lancaster County, formerly of Bowmanstown, died Monday in Luther Acres, Lititz. She was the widow of Burton F. Zellers.
She was a seamstress for the Wilmer Fashion Company, Bowmanstown, before retiring in 1979.
Born in Bowmanstown, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Maggie (Yeck) Meckes.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bowmanstown, where she sang in the choir and served on the chapel committee. She was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster.
Mrs. Zellers was chairwoman of the clothing fair and the floor representative for the apartments at Lehigh Acres.
Surviving are two sons, Donald B. and Edward C., both of Lancaster; a sister Ruth, wife of Willard Whiteman of Bowmanstown; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
James J. Kline
James J. Kline, 68, of 1509 Jill St., Bethlehem, died Sunday in the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Turkovsky) Kline. They observed their 47th wedding anniversary last November.
He was a truck driver for the North Penn Company for 22 years before retiring in 1991.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late John H. and Otilla (Peters) Kline.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bethlehem.
Kline was a member of F. & A.M. Lodge No. 283, Bethlehem, and the Lehigh Consistory, Allentown.
He also belonged to the Heights Athletic Association, Bethlehem.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Lannie of Palmerton and James M. of Bethlehem; a daughter, Fayette Csaszar of Lansdale; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son John.
Richard Rettew
Richard Rettew, 84, of Robesonia R.1, Berks County, formerly of the Allentown area, died Sunday in his home. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Kern-Kistler) Rettew.
He was president of Rettew Automation, Inc., in the Lebanon area for 30 years before retiring. During that time, he designed and built custom machinery for many industries and completely automated some, including the wooden casket industry.
Previously, he owned and operated a printing business with his wife in Lebanon; was vice president and general manager of the Slatington Machine Tool Company, a division of General Aviation, New York City; and was a supervisor for General Aviation plants in Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y., and Catawissa, Columbia County.
During World War II, he produced war materials in a small woodworking shop he started in Lebanon.
Rettew was granted patents for several of his inventions. He wrote articles for trade and technical journals and was listed in "Who's Who in America."
Born in Lebanon, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Ella D. (Brubaker) Rettew.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Millbach, Lebanon County, and a former member of the American Society of Tool Engineers and the Steitz Club, Lebanon.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Deborah Lin McCrea of Robesonia R.1, and Dawn L. Wise of Lebanon; two sons, Gary R. of Lebanon and Ronald L. of Harrisburg; a sister, Verna Forgasty of Harrisburg; and 12 grandchildren.
Mrs. Minnie R. Hummel
Mrs. Minnie R. Hummel, 94, of 3276 W. Walker Road, Moore Township, died Monday in the Muhlenberg Rehabilitation Center, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Clarence H. Hummel.
At one time, she was a cook at the Petersville Rod and Gun Club.
Born in Lehigh Township, she was a daughter of the late Daniel E. and Vesta J. (Klopp) Mertz.
She was a member of Christ Little Moore Church, Danielsville, and the Edgemont American Legion Auxiliary, Danielsville.
Surviving are a son, Earl H.D. of Moore Township; three sisters, Stella I., wife of Kenneth Beers of Slatington, Betty J., wife of Leon Creyer of Beersville, and Naomi P., wife of Bert Beil of Moore Township; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Esther M. Kemmerer.
Mrs. Elden Clemens
Mrs. Fern Clemens, 67, of Quakake, died Monday in the Hazleton General Hospital. She was the wife of Elden Clemens. They observed their 48th wedding anniversary last November.
Prior to retiring, she was a seamstress at several area garment factories.
Born in Quakake, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Theresa (Bachert) Croll.
She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Quakake, where she was a pianist for over 40 years.
Mrs. Clemens also belonged to the Pilgrim Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Tamaqua, the Quakake Fire Company and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Surviving in addition to her husband are several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister Shirley and two brothers, Curtis and Carroll "Moon."
