Caroline M. English, 89, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 in her home. Born Feb. 11, 1911 in Jackson Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Capitola Moore Magill. Mrs. English was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wexford, and was a member of the Wexford AARP. She was a homemaker and enjoyed travel and cards, having belonged to a 500 Card Club. Survivors include a daughter, Carole Hetrick of New Kensington with whom she made her home; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. English; a son, Col. James H. English, a US Air Force test pilot who was killed in an air crash in 1979 in Ohio; a great grandson, six brothers and two sisters . Friends will be received from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday in Salem United Methodist Church, Manor Road, Wexford, where services will follow with the Rev. Donald Detterer, and the Rev. Dean Ward, her grandson-in-law of Tupelo, Miss., officiating. Burial will be in Salem Church Cemetery, Pine. Richard Alexander Francis, 87, died Monday July 31, 2000 in Outlook Pointe Home, Allison Park. Mr. Francis was a retired personnel manager for US Steel's American Bridge Division in Ambridge. He lived in Avalon for 85 years and was a Life Member of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include two sons , Merle R. Francis of Wilmington, N.C., James H. Francis of Cranberry; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Services will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Avalon Public Library.

Rosalind (Jack) Frederick, 83, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., formerly of Slickville, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in St. Johns Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit, Mich. She was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Italy, a daughter of the late Anthony and Dominica (Palarko) Jack. She was the owner/operator of Robelle's Hair Stylists for 30 years in Detroit, Mich. In addition to her parents, Rosalind was predeceased by two brothers , Frank and Louis Jack; and a sister, Mary Valore. She is survived by her husband, Melvin W. Frederick; her twin sister, Jenny (Jack) Viterbo of Roseville, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie R. Fritz, 78, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Anderson, Ind., a daughter of the late Raymond and Mildred E. Hoffman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Fritz in 1975; and her son, John Fritz. She was a member of the Penns Woods United Methodist Church, White Shrine of Duquesne #16, where she served as past worthy High Priestess, member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Elizabeth Chapter 418, and Friends of the Library Club. She is survived by her son, Harry Lee Fritz of Frederick, Md.; a brother, Robert Hoffman of California; two sisters , Gretchen Zeir of Coraopolis and Betty Smith of Kinsman, Ohio; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mary "Wanda" Gregg, 65, of Greensburg Road, Upper Burrell, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Citizens General Hospital, New Kensington. Born Oct. 4, 1934, in Center, she had been a resident of Upper Burrell since 1957. She was co-owner of the Gregg Trucking Company in Upper Burrell with her husband. An avid Pittsburgh sports fan, she enjoyed hockey, baseball and football, as well as bingo. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Herbert L. Gregg; four sons , Guy, Rex and Roy Gregg, all of Upper Burrell, and Herbie Gregg of Lower Burrell; three daughters , Mrs. James (Donna) Hoey and Mrs. Bruce (Debra L.) Smith, both of Plum, and Mrs. Marilyn "Mim" Long of Washington Township; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee Slagle of Leeper; and a sister, Elsie A. Welsh of Cabot. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruth Polliard Slagle; and a brother, Richard Slagle. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., a family owned and operated funeral home, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Louis Grkman Sr., 77, of Yukon, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Yukon, a son of the late John Sr. and Mary Hobat Grkman. Prior to his retirement, he was a 44-year employee of the former Robertshaw Controls Co. in New Stanton. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was a member of the Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Church, Yukon, a lifetime member of VFW Post 5353 of Yukon, the Yukon Slovenian Hall #117, Fraternal Order of Eagles #844 of Jeannette, the Cool Valley Golf League, and was a social member of the Crabtree Volunteer Fire Co. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Grkman Jr.; and a sister, Mary Grkman. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Modestina Ruscitti Grkman; four sons , Louis Grkman Jr. and his wife, Darla, of Jeannette, James Grkman and his wife, Alisha, of Salisbury, N.C., Ronald Grkman and his wife, Janette, of Herminie and Edward Grkman and his wife, Nancy, of West Mifflin; a daughter, Eleanor Trumbetta and her husband, Tom Jr., of Crabtree; 10 grandchildren, Louis III, Matthew and his wife, Sue, T.J., Michael, Amber, Justin, Zachary, Sidney, April and Pat; and a great-grandson, Cody. Also surviving are three brothers , Joseph Grkman and his wife, Elsie, of Yukon, Anthony Grkman of West Newton RD1 and Frank Grkman of Wickliffe, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Grkman of Yukon. Joseph M. Hiznaneck, of Greensburg, died Sunday, July 30, 2000. Born in Greensburg, he was a son of Joseph and Florence Mangione Hiznaneck of Greensburg. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. He had been employed as controller by Shanefelter Industries in Uniontown. He was also the keyboardist for O Ring Jones. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen McDermott Hiznaneck; a daughter, Michelle Keenan of Charlotte, N.C.; and a brother, Stephen G. Hiznaneck of Johnstown. Melvin (Bob) Reed Keller, 77, died peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2000, surrounded by family. He was the dearly beloved husband of Dora Massaro Keller, loving Father of Cynthia Keller Richey of Mt. Lebanon, Melissa L. Keller Appel of Apple Valley, Calif., Chaplain (Major) Eric Reed Keller of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., and Kevin Lane Keller of Hanover, N.H.; loving grandfather of Keith and Brett Richey, Erika and Joshua Keller, Lee Appel, Carolyn and Allison Keller; brother of Melva Rose Teegarden of San Diego, Calif. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1949 with a BS in aerospace engineering; received his MS in nuclear physics and engineering in 1953; and did graduate work in mathematics at Stanford University and in nuclear rocket propulsion at UCLA. He entered the Armed Forces in 1942, and served in the US Army in the Philippines during World War II. After joining the US Air Force in 1950 he served as project engineer in the Propulsion Laboratory Rocket Unit; as chief of the Engineering Unit, Air Force Institute of Technology; professor in the AFIT Physics Department, professor of nuclear physics at the Air Force Academy; and director of the Energetics Research Lab at Aerospace Research Laboratories, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He received the Air Force R & D Outstanding Achievement Award in 1964 and holds the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster. He retired from the Air Force in 1968 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and joined Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, serving in the nuclear division until he retired in 1979. Memorial service to be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, on Saturday, August 5, at 3 p.m. Interment with full military honors in his hometown, La Monte, Mo. will be on Monday, August 7. Kinney and his wife, Frances Miller Kinney. Proud grandfather of Channing, Emma, and Chloe Cook, and Ashton and Meredith Kinney. Helen C. Kornides, 75, of Hostetter, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born March 26, 1925, in Hostetter, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Sedlacko Kornides. She was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Whitney, where she belonged to the senior choir and had served as a Sunday collection accountant for many years. Prior to retirement, she was a seamstress at the S.P. Reed Company, Troutman's, and The Bon-Ton. She was also a member of the St. Vincent Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Kevin Demyan; and a brother-in-law, Richard Demyan. She is survived by two brothers and four sisters , Mary Kornides and Bernard Kornides, with whom she made her home, John Kornides and his wife, Florence, of Latrobe, Rita Martin and her husband, Robert, of Greensburg, Regina Haas and her husband, Donald, of Latrobe and Alma Demyan of Latrobe. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the JOHN J.
