Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mrs. Andy E. Whitby
Mrs. Peggy Frantz Whitby, 77, of Allentown, died Tuesday in her home. She was the wife of Andy E. Whitby and the widow of Russell Frantz. She and her second husband observed their 36th wedding anniversary in March.
Born in Danielsville, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Clara Marsh.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Russell Frantz and Dwight Meckel, both of Northampton; eight daughters, Barbara, wife of Ronald Laub Sr. of Center Valley, Maria, wife of Willard Brown of Coopersburg, Patricia, wife of Gerry Kolb of New Tripoli, Marlene Pereira of Easton, Connie Pereira and Peggie, both of Allentown, Susan Wright of Palmerton and Toni F. Whitby, at home; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kneuper.

Donald A. Reed Sr.
Donald A. Reed Sr., 54, of 5289 Heidelberg Heights Road, Germansville, died Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after being stricken. He was the husband of Mary A. (Clause) Reed. They observed their 21st wedding anniversary last Sept. 21.
He was a truck driver for the Horwith Trucking Company, Northampton, for 15 years before retiring in 1995, and previously had worked in the same capacity for Matlack Trucking Company, Northampton, for several years.
Born in Andreas, he was a son of Harry and Ellen (Reed) Tracy of New Ringgold.
The deceased was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Heidelberg Township.
He was an Army veteran.
Reed belonged to the Copeechan Fish and Game Club, Schnecksville, and was a former member of the Teamster's Union.
Surviving in addition to his widow and parents are five daughters, Annette Gensure and Marianne, wife of Ernest Shilko, both of Tamaqua, Shanel, wife of Preston Loveless of Egypt, and Davina Mae and Stephanie Ann, both at home; three sons, Donald A. Jr. in Virginia, Wiliam of Tamaqua and Anthony W.C. of Trexlertown; three sisters, Cathy, wife of John Bachert of Coplay, Ann, wife of Robert Knadler of Whitehall Township, and Joan, wife of Terry Jones of Reading; a brother, Michael Tracy of Tamaqua; and five grandchildren.
The Heintzelman Funeral Home, 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Frank J. Mikulka
Frank J. Mikulka 74, of 136 W. Ridge St., Coaldale, died Tuesday at Hazleton General Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Marasco) Mikulka.
Before retiring, he was employed as a caretaker of Our Lady of Pompey R.C. Church in New York.
Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Ernestine (Bartosovic) (Bokor) Mikulka.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a United States Navy veteran.
Surviving with his widow are two children, Francis J. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Diana L. of New York City; four brothers, Joseph of Coaldale; Michael of Lansford; Thomas of Topeka, KA.; Al of Austin Town, Ohio; three sisters, Mary, wife of Dr. Jose Tord-Micolini of Indianapolis, Ind.; Anna of Fredericksburg, Va.; and Rose wife of Doward Fisher of Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Steve Bokor, John and Paul, and two sisters, Albina Langdon and Helen Martinkovic.
The Al M. Sverchek Funeral Home, Powell & E. Bertsch Sts., Lansford, is in charge of arrangements.

Vincent J. Currran
Vincent J. Curran, 70, of South Kansas City, Mo., died Tuesday, May 6, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was the husband of Mary Alice Curran.
He was born in Summit Hill and lived in St. Louis for 35 years before moving to South Kansas City where he lived for two years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War 11 and the Korean War.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving with his widow are tree sons, Gary A. Coleman of Seattle, Wash.; George M. Clessas of Alexandria, Va.; Edward C. Clessas of Portland, Oreg.; two daughters, Mary Jane Weishar of Kansas City; Evelyn M. Curran of Houston, Tex.; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services and burial were held in Missouri.

Michael John Cullen
Michael John Cullen 31, of 12 Foster Ave, Coaldale, died Wednesday at home. He was the husband of Michelle (Houser) Cullen.
He was a self- employed construction worker.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of John and Peggy Ann (Hedesh) Cullen of Coaldale.
He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Tamaqua.
He was a 1982 graduate of Panther Valley High School and was in the United States Air Force from 1983-87.
Surviving with his widow and parents are a son, Jonathan Michael, at home; a brother Bryan of Lansford; and maternal grandmother Margaret Hedesh of Coaldale.
The August M. Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret L. Thamarus
Margaret L. "Peg" Thamarus, 86, of 714 Lehigh St., Jim Thorpe, died Monday afternoon in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton.
Prior to retiring, she was a sewing machine operator for the former Zales Silk Mill, Jim Thorpe, and later had owned and operated the former Sam's Grill and Bar on Center Street in the community.
Born in East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Heisel) Thamarus.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Frank; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Rudner and Cecelia and Marcella Thamarus.
The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.

Hilda Q. David
Hilda Q. David, 75, of Northampton, died Sunday in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem.
Born in Whitehall Township, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Jeanette (Schaeffer) Leopold.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Northampton.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, Richard of Danielsville and Daniel of Schnecksville; a daughter Cheryl, wife of Robert White of Whitehall; three brothers, Woodrow of North Whitehall Township and Kenneth and Clayton, both of Allentown; two sisters, Pauline, wife of Stanley Mohr of Allentown, and Eleanor Muth of Germansville; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Michael Riebe
Michael Riebe 88, of Mentor, Ohio, formerly of Cleveland, died May 3 in his home. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Pierce) Riebe. They were married for 57 years.
He was a retired clerk for the Cleveland Post Office and also owned his own carpet cleaning business.
Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Fritz and Susan Riebe.
He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and the South Euclid Lions Club, both in Ohio.
Riebe was an Army Air Corps veteran.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Dr. Robert A. and Thomas M., both of Concord; two brothers, John in Virginia and Fritz in Indiana; a sister, Mary Matrician of Lansford; and five grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Andrew.
Funeral services were held in Mentor.

Mrs. Alburton J. Counterman Sr.
Mrs. Barbara P. Counterman, 56, of Paterson, N.J., formerly of East Stroudsburg, died Friday in the St. Joseph Hospital, Paterson. She was the wife of Alburton J. Counterman Sr.
Born in East Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Evelyn (LeBar) Fox.
She was a member of the East Side Presbyterian Church, Paterson, where she was a past treasurer and deacon, and also belonged to the Moose Lodge No. 644, Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Alburton J. Jr. of Paterson and Brian K. of Clifton, N.J.; a daughter, Belinda A. Giovannetti of Clifton; a brother, John J. of Kunkletown; six sisters, Dolores Faulstick of Saylorsburg, Joyce Hallett of Glen Gardner, N.J., Carolyn Klinger and Marilyn Adams, both of East Stroudsburg, Joanne Traeys of Sciota and Connie Newby of Paradise Valley; and five grandchildren.

Jacob E. Nederostek
Jacob E. Nederostek, 77, of 4178 Mountainview Drive, Walnutport, died Saturday in Weatherwood, Weatherly. He was the husband of Stella (Strongowski) Nederostek. They observed their 55th wedding anniversary in September.
He was a nozzle setter for ethe Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 28 years before retiring in 1964.
Born in Cementon, he was a son of the late Jacob and Mary (Reznecki) Nederostek.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Berlinsville.
Nederostek was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 454, Northampton.
Surviving in addition to his widow are three sons, Gerald of Jim Thorpe, Robert, at home, and James of Hudson, Ohio; two daughters, Marie Feichtl of Northampton and Diane, wife of David DeNard of Owosso, Mich.; two brothers, William and George, both of Cementon; a sister, Elizabeth Strongowski of Egypt; and eight grandchildren.
The Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary C. Spalding
Mary C. Spalding, 59, of Nazareth, formerly of Pen Argyl, died Friday in her home.
She was a counselor for the Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centre, Easton, for several years.
Born in Santa Cruz, Calif., she was a daughter of the late Walter A. and Helena C. (Clarke) Streett.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Pen Argyl.
Surviving are four daughters, Laura A. Smith of Bethlehem, Patricia A. Dinunzi of Mary D, Anne L. Pellegrino of Orlando, Fla., and Christine E. Nicholas of Bangor; four sons, Kenneth W. of Roseto, Sgt. Jeffrey L. of Grand Forks Air Base, N.D., Anthony J. of Allentown and Andrew K. of Pen Argyl; a sister, Marjorie Potter of Modesto, Calif.; and five grandsons.

Brian Pollock
Brian Pollock, 27, of 1176 Shoreland Drive, S.C., died Thursday in his home.
A graduate of Central Carolina Technical College, he was an engineer for Shaw Components, Sumter.
Born in Minot, N.D., he was a son of Judy (Helton) Pollock of Sumter, formerly of Tamaqua, and the late John J. Pollock.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Sumter.
Surviving in addition to his mother is a brother, John J. III of Altus, Okla.
The E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of the arrangements.
