Norma Jean Silvis
Irwin

Norma Jean Silvis, 72, of Irwin, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at her home. She was born Sept. 18, 1927, in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late George and Frances Magdelina Silvis. She was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church, North Huntingdon, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rocco DeVincentis. She is survived by three sons , Richard Shaw, Curt Chump and Don Ciampa; a brother, George Silvis; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Denny Seler officiating, followed by interment in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

Cecelia Catherine Miskinis Szolek
Everson

Cecelia Catherine Miskinis Szolek, a longtime resident of Everson, died Monday, July 31, 2000, in the Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant, at the age of 83. She was born in Connellsville, Nov. 3, 1916, a daughter of the late John and Catherine Balgosky Miskinis. Cecelia was an active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Everson, the Church Holy Rosary Society, and the Ladies Guild. She was the organizer and charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Everson Volunteer Fire Department. She also held memberships with the Everson Women's Democrat Club and the Polish National Alliance Lodge #1125. Cecelia leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, John W. "Jippy" Szolek, with whom she celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 17; her loving children, Marla J. Siwula and her husband, Joseph "Shivy," of Everson and Dan L. Szolek and his wife, Darleene (Skemp) of Mt. Pleasant; her grandchildren, Scott A. Kendrish of Everson, Stephen J. Kendrish and his wife, Mary Ann, of Scottdale, John Daniel Szolek and his wife, Jennifer, of Boardman, Ohio, Jeffrey S. Szolek and his wife, Stephanie, of Greensburg, and Jennifer L. Szolek of Columbia, Md.; a great-grandson, Stephen Ryan Kendrish; and her two sisters , Christine Goretsky of Trotter and Alda Sahonage and her husband, John, of Dawson. In addition to her parents, Cecelia was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Szolek, in infancy; seven brothers , Walter, Francis, Joseph, Leo, William, John and Watson Miskinis; three sisters , Helen Bowman, Victoria Franklin, and Martha Miskinis. Cecelia's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph R.C. Church, Everson. Interment will follow in St. Joseph R.C. Parish Cemetery, Everson. Members of St. Joseph Holy Rosary Society will recite the rosary Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Parish wake service will be held Wednesday in the funeral home. Members of the Ladies Auxiliary and Everson Volunteer Fire Department will hold a memorial service Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Kathryn 'Kay' (Ryan) Tancraitor
North Versailles

Kathryn "Kay" (Ryan) Tancraitor, 62, of North Versailles Township, died Saturday, July 29, 2000. A daughter of the late Henry and Evelyn (Powell) Ryan. Beloved wife of Otto J. Tancraitor Sr.; dear mother of Otto (Sharon) Tancraitor Jr., Cheryl A. Yadesky, Denise L. (Steve) Greco and Lisa Tancraitor; loving grandmother of Otto J. III and Jennifer Tancraitor, and William J. "Bill" and Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Yadesky; sister of Henry, Robert "Bob," Donald "Don," Thomas "Shorty" and Charles "Pete" Ryan, Patricia "Pat" McCoy, Clara "Wally" Byrne and Linda Kerr; sister-in-law of Sister Maxine, Max Sr., and the late John Tancraitor; also numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received at the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, Pa., Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., with services in the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by Mass in St. Robert Bellarmine Church at 10 a.m.

James Taylor
Mt. Pleasant

James "Buddy" Taylor, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Beaver Falls, a son of the late James H. and Lillie Jones Taylor. He was a member of the Connellsville United Methodist Church, the Teamsters, the Trotter American Legion Post 762, the F&AM Lodge, the Scottish Rite Consistory and he was also a Shriner. He was a graduate of Ramsey High School with the Class of 1942. Buddy was a 33rd Degree Mason, a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army 92nd Calvary in Northern Africa and European Theater. During his years of work, prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Cramer Trucking, Westinghouse Foundry in Trafford, Kaplan Trucking in Cleveland, Wilmer McGiffin Trucking, Morrow Trucking and Kendi Asphalt. He is survived by six sons , James B. Taylor Jr. and wife, Judy, of Peekskill, N.Y., Mark B. Taylor of Scottdale, Dwayne L. Taylor and wife, Minnie, of Lorton, Va., Michael A. Taylor of Aspen, Colo., and twin sons , Douglas H. Taylor and wife, Peggy, of Stafford, Va., and Dennis E. Taylor of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren, Lydia, Erin, William, Delfia, Andrea, Jonathon, Thandi, Douglas, Talia and Marcus Taylor, Michquel Nolan; three great-grandsons, DeAnthony, DeVon and Vinnie; a brother, Merle Taylor and wife, Dolores, of Plainfield, N.J.; four sisters , Sarah Drayton of Stroudsburg, Pa., Frances Robinson of Greensburg, LaVerne Wormack of Mt. Pleasant, and Hattie Taylor of Gallipolis, Ohio; and also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy King Taylor in 1972; and a sister Lillian Lambert. Friends received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Griffin Mason officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military rights accorded by the members of the American Legion.

John T. Wappler
Cranberry

John T. Wappler, 86, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 in St. Francis Nursing Home, Cranberry.Mr. Wappler was vice-president of Acme Window Cleaning Co., retiring in 1980. Survivors include a son, William M. Wappler of Marshall; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Pozar Wappler, and a son, John Wappler Jr. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, 10418 Perry Highway, Wexford. Christian Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will be in North Side Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Pittsburgh Chapter, 1323 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh PA.

Ruth G. Williams
West Newton

Ruth G. Williams, 94, of West Newton, died Sunday, July 30, 2000. She was born July 3, 1906, in South Huntingdon Township, a daughter of the late William Robertson Gaut and Mary Markle School Gaut. She was a lifelong member of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Williams on Dec. 23, 1983; a grandson; three brothers ; daughters -in-law, Theresa and Lee Williams; sons -in-law, Clarence Chew and James H. Heath; and a special family member, J.D. Murray. Survived by two sons , Kenny Williams and friend, Virginia, of California and Ronnie Williams and wife, Mary, of Moon Township; three daughters , Sara (Sally) Chew and Marilyn Heath, both of Smithton RD1, Edith Walt and husband, Harry, of West Newton; grandchildren, Bobby Williams, Ronnie and wife, Sandy Williams, Tommy Williams, Wendy Williams, Rodney Chew, Jeffrey and wife, Beth Chew, Bonnie and husband, Panfield DiNicola III, Kathleen and husband, Frank Garner, and Terri and husband, Dennis Day; great-grandchildren, Cheri and Corey Williams, Ruthie and Earl Garner, Samantha Chew, Jason Byrd, Victoria Day, Carrie Lynn Day, Dan Day, Lisa and husband, Scott Boytim, and Panfield DiNicola IV; two great-great-grandchildren, Matthew and Brooke Boytim; and a special family member, Kathy Knight and her family. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at the West Newton United Presbyterian Church in West Newton with the Rev. Bernadine Hudson Winfield

Bernadine Hudson Winfield, 86, of Greensburg, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born Dec. 13, 1913, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late James and Jane Hudson Rodgers. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Winfield; two sisters , Bessie Franklin and Edna Ashbaugh; two stepsons, Harry R. and Kenneth A. Winfield; and a nephew whom she raised, Melvin Huether. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Dan Winfield, Linda Hill and Wayne Winfield, children of Kenneth; Debbie Winfield, daughter of Harry; Gregory Winfield, Sherry Gilbreth and Randal Winfield, children of Glenn; six great-grandchildren, Laren and Ashley Hill, Elizabeth and Michael Winfield, Christopher Gilbreth and Heather Winfield; a niece, Karen Lauricia and her husband, Geno, of Export; a nephew, David Huether and his wife, Mary, of Claridge; a stepson, Glenn Winfield and his wife, Phyllis, of Tennessee; and a number of great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Martin R. Koss officiating. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum, Delmont.

Harrison M. "Woodsie" Woods
Bellevue

Harrison M. "Woodsie" Woods, 79, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 in Suburban General Hospital. Mr. Woods was a welder by trade and had worked at McGraw Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg until his retirement in 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Lee Boyle of Allison Park; a son, Gary M. Woods of Bellevue; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Alice Woods. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in ORION C. PINKERTON FUNERAL HOME, 1014 California Ave., Avalon, where services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highwood Cemetery, North Side.

Daniel F. Zoeller died Sunday, July 30, 2000. Survivors include two sisters , Marian Linn and Donna Stockert of Valencia; two brothers , Jim Zoeller of Valencia and Paul Zoeller of Hampton. Loving Father of Jackie (Tom) Lacey, Melissa (John) Schweitzer, Michelle Coffman and Marc E. Bilinski. Dear grandfather of Joshua Schweitzer, Tommy, Mitchel, Sidney and the late Ryan Lacey. Brother of Jerome "Jerry" Bilinski and the late Eleanor Eckler. Also survived by nieces. Marian "Marie" Coval Bittinger, of Southwest Greensburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born in Logans Ferry, a daughter of the late Peter and Susan Karaffa Coval. She was a former special education teacher; a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg; had attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College; was a former member of the Southwest Greensburg Garden Club, and had served as a Southwest Greensburg Judge of Election. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Coval. She is survived by her husband, James E. Bittinger; two daughters , Linda Bittinger McBride and her husband, William D., of Greensburg and Lee Boehme and her husband, George O., of South Greensburg; two grandsons, Nicholas James McBride and Alexander Gaskey-Boehme; two sisters , Elizabeth C. Nestor and her husband, Al, of Murrysville and Helen Saccardi and her husband, Bruno, of Logans Ferry; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney officiating. Private interment will be at Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
