Mildred J. McDonald, 92, of Latrobe, having been residing with her niece, Nancy E. Martin, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in Edgewood Nursing Center, Unity Township. She was born June 2, 1908, in Derry Township, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary J. Kennedy Shrum. She was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe. She was retired from Latrobe Area Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Pahel; her second husband, Elmer McDonald; five sisters , Eleanor Akins, Gertrude Mills, Irene Stemmler, Edna Harr and Marie Buerger; and four brothers , Raymond, Albert, Wilbur and Regis Shrum. She is survived by three stepchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Interment to follow.
Donald L. Rittenhouse

Donald L. Rittenhouse, 43, of Mt. Pleasant RD5 (Laurelville), passed away Friday afternoon, July 28, 2000, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Don was born March 26, 1957, in Sellersville, Pa., a son of Henry and Beulah Hendricks Rittenhouse of Souderton, Pa. Don married the former Jane Birky in March of 1986. Don was presently serving as the Executive Director of the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in Mt. Pleasant Township. He was a member of the Mennonite Church of Scottdale, where he served as Congregational Chair, taught Adult Sunday School and was a leader in the Mennonite Service Adventure Program for two years. Don was also a member of the staff of Out-Spokin', a Mennonite Bicycling Organization. He was president of the Mennonite Camping association and locally was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club. In his spare time, Don enjoyed woodworking, photography and biking. Above all, Don was always enthusiastic about his life and his faith. In addition to his parents, Henry and Beulah Rittenhouse, Don is survived by his loving family, his wife, Jane (Birky) Rittenhouse; two daughters , Leah and Krista Rittenhouse at home; three brothers , Dennis Rittenhouse and wife, Mary, of Denver, Pa., Dale Rittenhouse of Souderton, Pa., and Dean Rittenhouse and wife, Beth, of Green Lane, Pa.; his extended family, his Father - and mother -in-law, Joe and Velda Birky of Delevan, Ill.; Mark and Jean Birky of Hopedale, Ill.; Curt and Jean Veenema Birky of Glenn, Mich.; and Jeff and Millie Birky of Goshen, Ind. Private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, July 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mennonite Church of Scottdale. A graveside committal service and inurnment will take place at the Pennsville Mennonite Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 10:45 a.m., followed by a reception of family and friends from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center, Shenandoah Building. A memorial service celebrating Don's life will follow at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center, RD5, Box 145, Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666, in memory of Donald L. Nell V. Sanner

Nell V. Sanner, 86, formerly of Ligonier RD3 (Waterford), died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Sept. 24, 1913, in Everson, a daughter of the late Peter and Victoria Klupka Bonar. Nell was Catholic by faith. Prior to her retirement, she was a cook for the Bethlen Home, Ligonier, and the B.P.O. Elks in Oakmont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon J. "Huck," in January 1986; and two sisters , Catherine Carroll and Margaret Werstvik. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Flo Olecki, and a brother, Frank Bonar, both of Latrobe. Friends received Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC. & CREMATORY, Route 982 South, Latrobe (Youngstown), where a blessing service will be held Tuesday (time to be announced). Pauline R. Simpson, 82, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, July 28, 2000, in Forbes Regional Health Center, Monroeville. She was born May 11, 1918, in Ohio, a daughter of the late Michael and Ruth Spillane. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Simpson. Pauline is survived by her husband, William E. Simpson; a daughter, Dianne Nagle of North Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Shannon, Erin and Richard; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Dylan. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Margaret (Knapp) Sperling, 91, of McCandless, died Saturday, July 29, 2000. She is survived by one son, Walter J. Sperling Jr.; one daughter, Janet Notaro; two sisters , Mildred Novak, and Audery O'Rouke; two brothers , Al-quin Knapp, and Clyde Knapp of Wisconsin; five grandsons, John, Chuck, and Troy Notaro, Walter Sperling III and Jarett Sperling; two granddaughters, Shelly Notaro, and Desriee Courtoy; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Megan; three great-grandsons, Tres', Tyler, and Noah. Mrs. Sperling was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Sperling Sr.; one sister, Alberta Miller; three brothers , Eugene, Norbert, and Robert Knapp. Mrs. Sperling was a funeral director. She was a member of St. Peter Parish and Christian Mothers. Friends will be received from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday in SPERLING, INC., 408 Cedar Ave., North Side. A Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, St. Peter Parish. Frank Donald Spillar, 52, of Derry, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Hempfield Township. Born Aug. 22, 1947, in Latrobe, he was a son of Ida M. Gasdek Spillar of Latrobe and the late Andrew J. Spillar. He was a member of St. Rose Church, Latrobe, and worshiped at St. James Lutheran Church, Youngstown. He was an employee of Derry Area School District and Derry Area Park and Recreation Board. He also belonged to the Kingston Veterans & Sportsmen Club, Twin Maples Hunt Club, First Ward Company 1 Firemen's Club, American Slovak Club, American Greek Club and Frontier Club. Frank was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Spillar. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Darlene Banner Spillar; a daughter, Melissa Spillar of Latrobe; three sons , Christopher Spillar and his wife, Michelle of Bradenville, Dustin Banner and Joshua Banner, both at home; two brothers , Andrew Spillar and his wife, Connie, of Cooperstown and Joseph Spillar and his wife, Judy, of Lloydsville; two sisters , Donna Spurgeon and her husband, Clarence, of Prattsville, Ala., and Karen Clark and her husband, James, of Dallastown, Pa.; two very special grandchildren, Deyvin and Christopher of Bradenville; a sister-in-law, Patricia Spillar of Herminie; and a number of nieces and nephews. Jeffrey Scott Stanko, 33, of Greensburg, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at his home. Born July 21, 1967, in Latrobe, he was a son of Josephine A. Liberoni Stanko of Latrobe and the late Andrew J. Stanko. He had been employed by David Flamm Company, Greensburg. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Frank and Josephine Liberoni; and paternal grandparents, Andrew and Elizabeth Stanko. In addition to his mother , he is survived by a daughter, Carmella Marie Stanko of Latrobe; a brother, James A. Stanko and his wife, Sandra, of Latrobe; a sister, Lori A. Cramer of Derry; two nieces, Kaitlyn Stanko and Nicole Stanko; special friends, David King and family; and close friend, George Mitchell.
