Mrs. Rita Navitsky

Mrs. Rita (Baddick) Navitsky, of 257 Clay St., Tamaqua, died this morning in her home, She was the widow of Alex Navitsky.

The Jon M. Zizelmann Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of arrangements.

Nicholas A. "Ducky" Rose

Nicholas A. "Ducky" Rose, 62, of 121 W. Columbus Ave., Nesquehoning, died Monday in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was the husband of Wilma (Steber) Rose.

Born in Nesquehoning, he was a son of Patsy Rose of Nesquehoning and the late Josephine (DiGilio) Rose, and was a lifelong resident of the borough.

The deceased was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Nesquehoning.

He was a Navy veteran, having served on the USS Cassin Young during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving in addition to his widow and father are a son, Nicholas A., and two daughters, Maria L. Yelito and Cheryl A., all of Nesquehoning; a brother Patrick of Bear Creek Lakes; a sister, Mary Ann, wife of Robert Stotelnyer of Lehighton; and two grandchildren.

The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of the arrangements.

Maynard C. Kern Sr.

Maynard C. Kern Sr., 66, of Jackson Township, N.J., died July 29 in the Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, N.J. He was the husband of Ruth (Brent) Kern.

Born in Franklin Township, Carbon County, he was a son of the late Earl S. and Clara E. (Dotter) Kern.

He was a truck driver for the Chemical Leaman Tank Line, Lyonsville, N.J.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Maynard C. Jr. of Lakewood; two daughters, Theresa of Brick Township, N.J., and Debra, wife of Jeffrey Shellhammer of Franklin Township; two sisters, Virginia Miller and Ellen, both of Franklin Township; a twin brother Edward of Netcong, N.J.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Walter Moyer

Mrs. Lyne L. Moyer, 73, of 2411 Allenbrook Drive, Allentown, died last Thursday in the home of her son Gregory on Anchorage, Alaska. She was the wife of Walter Moyer. They observed their 51st wedding anniversary in June.

A native of France, she was a French teacher for many years, including former service at the Lehigh-Carbon Community College.

Surviving in addition to her husband and son are two daughters, Georgine Edwards of Allentown and Marlene Kondrk of Anchorage; a brother Francois in France; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Miriam Pellegrino

Mrs. Miriam "Honey" Pellegrino, 82, of 20 E. Main St., Girardville, died Sunday in the Pottsville Hospital. She was the widow of Patsy Pellegrino, who died in 1988.

Prior to retiring, she worked in various area garment factories.

Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Madara) Breinich.

She attended Pottsville schools and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Pottsville.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Gloria M. Walck

Gloria M. Walck, 66, of 19 E. 13th St., Jim Thorpe, died Friday in Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the widow of Grant L. Walck, who died in 1989.

She was the assistant manager at the former G. C. Murphy's 5 & 10 Store in Lehighton, where she worked for 37 years.

Born in Parryville, she was a daughter of Larue (Barroll) Moyer of Jim Thorpe and the late Grover Moyer Sr.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sixth and North Streets, Jim Thorpe, where she was a council member, the financial secretary, and former treasurer of the Sunday School.

She also belonged to the Jim Thorpe Women's Club.

Besides her mother, she is survived by six sisters, Marceline Wolfe, Geraldine, wife of Howard Schock, Carolyn, wife of Ronald Green, and Nancy, wife of Allen Snyder, all of Lehighton, Barbara, wife of Barry Burns of Jim Thorpe, and Lorraine Wertman of Palmerton; four brothers, Grover Moyer Jr. of Lehighton, and Renald Moyer, Delthin Moyer, and Darryl Moyer, all of Palmerton, and several nieces and nephews.

The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of services.

Clement H. Wagner

Clement H. Wagner, 91, of the Hometown Nursing Center, Hometown, formerly of 160 Orwigsburg St., Tamaqua, died Friday in the Hometown Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lavina R. (Wenzel) Wagner, who died in 1989.

He was a retired brakeman for the Reading Railroad.

Born in Frackville, he was a son of the late Clyde Hoyt and Mary Elizabeth (Shoup) Wagner.

He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua.

He was a life member of the South Ward Fire Company, Tamaqua.

Surviving are a son, Glenn D., of Lansford; a daughter, Patricia A. Jones of Tamaqua; 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. A son, Donald, died in April.

The Jon M. Zizelmann Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Margaret Pavlishin

Margaret Pavlishin, 86, of 4 Springgarden St., Lansford, died Sunday in the Geriatric Center of the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale, where she was a guest for the past five months.

She was a sales clerk for the former Brights Department Store, Lansford, until it closed.

Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Natalie (Dalak) Pavlishin.

Surviving are three sisters, Sue Parfitt of Coaldale and twins Eva Scanzelli of Allentown and Helen of Jim Thorpe; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Peter, Paul, Steven, Michael, Walter, John and Alex; and three sisters, Anna Quatrocchi, Kate Moneta and Elizabeth Sofsky.

The August M. Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert A. Keilman

Robert A. Keilman, 72, of 457 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, died Saturday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. He was the husband of Emma E. (Oliphant) Ansbach Keilman.

He worked for ICI America, Reynolds, before retiring.

Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late James Keilman and Margaret (Ponting) Brown Keilman.

A 1943 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the C.H. Berry American Legion Post, Tamaqua.

Keilman was a life member of the Benevolent Paternal Order of Elks and American Hose Company No. 1, both of Tamaqua.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a son Gary and a sister, Grace K. Rose, both of Tamaqua; a stepson, Paul M. Ansbach of Tamaqua R.4; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Stephen Kowalchuk

Stephen Kowalchuk, 71, of 7075 Route 873, Slatington, formerly of Northampton, died Sunday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Jennie P. (Mayers) Kowalchuk. They observed their 40th wedding anniversary in June.

He worked in the 5C Plant of Mack Trucks, Inc., Allentown and Macungie, for 30 years before retiring as a final mechanic in 1989. He later worked part-time at the exit gate of the Lehigh County Game Preserve.

Born in Bath, he was a son of the late Philip and Sophia (Koritko) Kowalchuk.

He was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton.

Kowalchuk was a Navy veteran of World War II, having enlisted in 1944 during his senior year at Northampton High School. He was president of his junior and senior classes and at his June graduation he received an American Legion Award for exemplifying honor, character, leadership and service.

Kowalchuk was a hunting and fishing guide for many years, and also had stocked his pond with trout for youths.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Robin K., wife of Roger Burk of Reston, Va., Martha I., wife of Saverio Campano of Schnecksville, and Nadia M., at home; two sons, Andrew P. of Allentown and Stephen P. of Hellertown; a sister Olga, wife of Joseph Petro of Northampton; six brothers, John of Roanoke, Va., Andrew of Coplay, Michael of Nazareth, Charles of Susquehanna County, Philip of York and Joseph of Geneva, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Layoma E. Turner

Mrs. Layoma E. Turner, 89, of 131 N. Walnut St., Slatington, died Sunday in her home. She was the widow of Kenneth A. Turner.

She was a silk weaver for the former Paris Neckwear, Walnutport, until retiring.

Born in Emerald, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Catherine E. (Olewine) Wehr.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Slatington.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joanne B. Snyder of Emerald and Diana T., wife of Dr. Seth Bernstein of Mountain Lakes, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Steinmetz of Bucks County and Ruth, wife of Mahlon Turner of Walnutport; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Harding-Fox Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Josephine N. Kowalskie

Mrs. Josephine N. Kowalskie, 82, of Allentown, died Sunday in her home. She was the widow of Nicholas Kowalskie.

She was a florist at Ann's Flowers, Shenandoah, until retiring in 1968, and previously was a hair designer in the Shenandoah area.

Born in Park Place, Barnesville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anastasia (Digris) Novalsky.

She was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna M. of Allentown; a son, Neal F. of Middletown, Del.; a sister, Frances Bobbit of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Edith A. Albright

Mrs. Edith A. Albright, 83, of Allentown, died Friday in the Devon House, Salisbury Township. She was the widow of Richard A. Albright.

She was a garment worker for various Lehigh Valley clothing factories for many years before retiring in 1979.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Carmine and Antonetta (Constantine) Giandomenico.

She was a member of Dubbs Memorial United Church of Christ, Allentown.

Surviving are three brothers, Michael and Vincent, both of Allentown, and Ralph of Brodheadsville; and five sisters, Pauline, wife of Stephen Buck of Hellertown, Congetta Vitchkoski and Amelia, both of Bethlehem, Viola Nothstein of Emmaus and Mary, wife of Robert Kufrovich of Center Valley.

Mrs. Verna M. Treichler

Mrs. Verna M. Treichler, 85, of Allentown, died Saturday in the Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Allentown. She was the widow of Charles H. Treichler.

Born in Walnutport, she was a daughter of the late John B. and Alice R. (Nicholas) Kuntz.

She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Ziegels Union Church, Breinigsville.

Surviving are a son, Mark L. of Slatington; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy A. Longenbach of Coplay, Kathryn A., wife of George G. Desh of Bethlehem, and Louise A., wife of Michael R. Wunderly of Bath; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter Joyce.

Joseph J. Halaburda

Joseph J. Halaburda, 73, of 230 S. Wylan St., Frackville, died Friday afternoon in his home. He was the husband of Eugenia "Jean" (O'Donnell) Halaburda.

A miner, he also owned the Halaburda Mine Company, Darkwater, Schuylkill County, for many years, and in 1969 was appointed a Pennsylvania anthracite deep mine inspector, a post he held for 20 years.

Born in Frackville, he was a son of the late Bernard and Josephine (Anascavage) Halaburda.

He was a lifelong resident of Frackville and attended West Mahanoy Township schools and the former Frackville High School.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Frackville, and the Frackville Masonic Lodge 737, where he was a past master, served on the instruction and education committees, and belonged to the Craftsman's Club.

Halaburda was the recipient of the William C. Heller Award presented by the lodge in 1991. He was also an instructor at the Masonic School of Instruction, 58th Masonic District, and was a 32nd Degree member of Caldwell Consistory at Bloomsburg.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Leonard, at home, and David of Barnesville; three daughters, Eugenia Tyrrell and Carol Billus, both of Frackville, and Dolores Halaburda, at home; a brother Edward of Frackville; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph J. Jr. in 1980; and two brothers, Bernard and Leonard C.
