Alice E. Cramer Smoker

Alice E. Cramer Smoker, 76, of Latrobe RD1, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at IHS at Mountain View. She was born June 2, 1924, in Lycippus, a daughter of the late Louis W. and Edna May Underwood Cramer. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Cramer; and a sister, Helen Aukerman. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward W. Smoker Sr.; and seven children, Edward W. Smoker Jr., Gene L. Smoker, Bonnie Jones and her husband, John, all of Forbes Road, Steven C. Smoker of Greensburg, Donald L. Smoker and wife, Vonnie, of Pleasant Unity, Alice Beehner and her husband, Thomas, and Jeffrey J. Smoker and his wife, Karen, all of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters , Mrs. Curtis (Margaret) Logan of Latrobe RD4 and Grace Aukerman of Latrobe. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Pleasant Unity, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Almon Birt officiating. Burial will follow in Lycippus Community Cemetery, Unity Township.

George Yenche

George Yenche, 89, of Wilkins Township, on Saturday, July 22, 2000. Beloved husband of Ann (Marcin) Yenche. Loving Father of Eugene R. and wife, Isabel Yenchi, of Plum Borough and Annette and husband, Jack McGuill, of Plum Borough; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother of Irene Antoncic, Elmer and the late Mike, John, Steve and David Yenche. Friends received Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN L. QUINLAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 11th and Airbrake avenues in Turtle Creek. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Colman Church Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Herbert R. Bortle,
Neville

Herbert R. Bortle, 81, a lifelong resident of Neville Township, died Monday, July 24, 2000, in Mariner Health Care Center of West Hills. Herbert was the beloved husband of Patricia Noss Bortle for 52 wonderful years. Mr. Bortle was the brother of Roberta Cicero and Charles and George Bortle. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth (DeVaul) Bortle and by nine brothers and sisters . Mr. Bortle belonged to many organizations. He was a member and elder of the Neville Island Presbyterian Church, the Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Pittsburgh, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, West Hills Caravan 25, F&AM 674 of Coraopolis, MASCA, and AARP 3451. He was a former employee of R.B.W., and a retired dispatcher for the Neville Island Police Department. He was also a veteran. Friends received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 9 p.m. at the R.D. COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, 867 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis. A Masonic service will be conducted Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Neville Island Presbyterian Church, First Street, Neville Township, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Sterling and the Rev. Harry Hutchinson co-officiating (everyone please meet at the church). Burial will take place in Mars Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church.

William C. Brasco,
Jeannette

William C. "Willie" Brasco, 82, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in the IHS of Greater Pittsburgh at Greensburg. He was born April 6, 1918, in Beyer, Pa., a son of the late Samuel Brasco and Frances Marasco Brasco Marsico. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former Jeannette Glass Co. He was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette, the church's Holy Name Society, and also served as usher. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Domenick Brasco; a sister, Jennie Brasco; and a stepfather, Anthony Marsico. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Hostoffer Brasco; a brother, John Marsico and wife, Shirley, of Bradenton, Fla.; four sisters , Theresa Marsico, Helen Rulli, Angeline Brasco, all of Jeannette, and Mary Verdi of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Ascension Church. Entombment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The Ascension Holy Name Society will hold services Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Walter Bernard Brill,
Bethel Park

Walter Bernard Brill, of Bethel Park, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000. Beloved husband of the late Alberta M. Moyer Brill. Dear Father of Walter B. "Barney" McLennand and Aaron W. Brill. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends received at the PAUL L. HENNEY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 5570 Library Road, corner of Brightwood Road and Route 88, Bethel Park, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Saturday, time later.

Catherine 'Dutch' Bryan,

Catherine "Dutch" Bryan, 71, of Robinson, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000. She was the wife of the late Frank Bryan III; mother of Frank D. Bryan and wife, Cynthia; daughter of the late Frank and Cecella Dermotta; sister of Mary Vidmar and Margaret Adamowski and the late August and Rudy Dermotta, Ethel Kurtz and Elizabeth Jakovac; grandmother of Frank S. and Shawn Bryan. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday Thursday in McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 334 Forest Grove Road, Kennedy. Loretta M. Chesmar,

Loretta M. Chesmar, 86, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Mrs. Chesmar worked at American Linen Supply Co. in Lawrenceville from the age of 16 until her retirement at age 72. Survivors include a son, Edward Chesmar of McCandless; a daughter, Jean Oswald of Shaler; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, 10418 Perry Highway, McCandless. Christian Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Alexis Roman Catholic Church, McCandless. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Pine.

Anna Coffer, 81, of West Newton, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. Born Feb. 4, 1919, in Blythedale, a daughter of the late Samuel and Bambina Zvitelli Fabrizio. Wife of the late William Coffer. mother of John and Peggy Coffer of West Newton, Rosalie and Melvin Rodgers of Elizabeth, and Shirley and Francis Flanigan of Buena Vista; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, John Fabrizio of Sutersville; and a sister, Mary Jane Grimes of Meadville. Friends will be received in the RALPH L. JOHNSON FUNERAL HOME, Buena Vista, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will take place Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, Sutersville, with Father James Vasil officiating. Interment will be in West Newton Cemetery.

Paul V. Conn,
Connellsville

Paul V. Conn, 78, of Connellsville, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian hospital, Oakland. He was born Oct. 4, 1921, at Old Frame, Fayette County, a son of the late Calvin and Mollie Gallentine Conn. Paul was retired from the U.S. Steel Clairton Works and was also a self-employed coal miner and mechanic. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW of Connellsville, and the F.O. Eagles #493 of Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Ann Tiginille; a grandson, Andrew Conn; four brothers , Ralph, Edward, Howard and Robert Conn; three sisters , Dollie Conn, Harriet Lewis and Sarah; and his loving companion, Rusty. He is survived by a son, Danny Conn and his wife, Debbie, of Vanderbilt; two daughters , Sandra Lee Daniels and her husband, Bobby, of McKeesport and Joan Sease and her husband, Michael, of Trotter; also a son, Michael Colflesh and his wife, Debbie, of Leisenring; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his loving companion, Agnes Hall of Connellsville. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Normalville Cemetery. military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion and VFW Honor Guard.

William Franklin Culp Jr.,
Washington , D.C.

William Franklin Culp Jr., 79, of Washington , D.C., died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington , D.C., following a prolonged illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Greensburg, the son of the late William and Marie (Reichert) Culp. He was a former employee of American Airlines. A graduate of Greensburg High School, Class of 1940, he served with Company C, 179th Infantry, 45th Division, during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Eugene Turney of Lebanon, Pa.; his three nephews, William Turney of Severna Park, Md., Ben Turney of Edgewater, Fla., and James Turney of Monongahela; and his two nieces, Genie Trickett of Myerstown and Laurie Shaffer of Littleton, Colo. He is also survived by five grandnephews and four grandnieces. A memorial service was held in Washington , D.C., on July 23. A memorial gift may be sent to the Whitman-Walker Clinic at 1407 S St., N.W., Washington , DC 20009.

Virginia R. Douthett,

Virginia R. Douthett, 82, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Born Aug. 25, 1917, in Brackenridge, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth Mansfield Millen. Mrs. Douthett was a retired real estate broker for Douthett Real Estate in Warrendale. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church, Marshall. Survivors include two sons , Russell M. Douthett Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gregory W. Douthett of Cincinnati; a daughter, Suzanne L. Jacobs of Downingtown, Pa.; and four grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell M. Douthett; a brother; and a sister. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until services at 1:30 p.m. Friday in McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME. The Rev. Daniel Corll, pastor of Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Pine. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross, 303 Willow Brook Lane, West Chester, PA 19382.
