Charles S. Mott
Charles S. Mott, 84, of Canton, died December 6, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Grace; two daughters, Charlene Corby of Elizabethtown and Carol Fitch of Canton; three sons, Sam of Doylestown, Max of Perkasie and the Honorable John C. of Canton; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Canton Church of Christ. Friends may call 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pepper Funeral Home, Canton, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be private.
Frederick E. Portz
Frederick E. Portz, 76, of Exchange, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center. A native of New Jersey, he was a civil engineer with the Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ, retiring in 1985.
He is survived by two daughters in New Jersey.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Exchange. Friends may call at Brooks Funeral Home, Turbotville, from 12-1 p.m.
Dr. Beverly A. Smith
Dr. Beverly A. Smith, 69, passed away Monday, December 3, 2001, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
She was born in Williamsport, where she graduated from the Williamsport High School. Upon graduation, she was employed as a flight attendant with American Airlines for 13 years, based in Chicago. She attended Chicago City Junior College, University of Illinois in Chicago and University of Illinois in Urbana; where she earned her doctorate.
She was employed by the federal government at their National Center for Toxicological Research, in Jefferson, Arkansas, as a medical research chemist, until she retired in April of 2000. Many honors and society memberships were bestowed upon her during her career. She was also responsible for numerous scientific publications from 1979 to 1997.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Weldon L. Smith. Surviving are her mother, Pauline M. Smith of Sycamore Manor; one sister, Janice L. Upham and husband, Frank, of Williamsport; one niece, Tracie Painton and son, Evan of Williamsport; and a nephew, Ross Painton, of Huntington Beach, Ca. Private Burial services will be at Twin Hills Memorial Park, pending arrangements by family.
Edward A. Engel Jr.
Edward A. Engel, Jr., age 80, died at Manor Care in Jersey Shore on Saturday morning, December 8, 2001. He was formerly of 120 Wylie St., Jersey Shore.
Born in Williamsport on June 7, 1921, he was a son of Edward A. and Margaret Hoebner Engel, Sr. He married the former Dorothy English on August 22, 1949 and she survives.
He was a truck driver for Halls Motor Co. for over 36 years. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Williamsport and attended the Church of St. Luke in Jersey Shore. He was a life member of Jersey Shore Lodge #1057 B.P.O.E.; the L.O.O.M. Lodge #214 of Jersey Shore and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1747, Jersey Shore, where he was past Worthy President.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, surviving are a daughter, Catherine L. Palski of Jersey Shore; 2 sons, Harry T. Engel of Lock Haven and Edward A. Engel III, of Jersey Shore; a sister, Charlotte Nichols of Williamsport; 3 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and 4 step-great grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home" of Jersey Shore. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA, 17701.
Thomas E. Hutchinson
Thomas E. Hutchinson, age 71, of 170 Pinecrest Drive, Williamsport, died Friday, December 7, 2001 at his residence.
He was born in DuBoistown on September 18, 1930, a son of Larve and Lola Brotherhood Hutchinson. He married the former Virginia McCafferty in February of 1952 and she survives.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He retired after 18 years with the maintenance department of W.A.C.C. at the Earth Science Building in Allenwood. He enjoyed fishing.
Besides his wife, he has 1 daughter, Colleen Rook of Williamsport; 2 grandsons, Steven and Michael; and 1 great grandson Tyler.
Funeral services will be private and at his families convenience. Maneval Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," is handling arrangements.
Linda L. Sipe
Linda L. Sipe, 53, of 505 Pine St., Williamsport, died early Saturday morning, December 8, 2001 in the Williamsport Hospital. Born January 5, 1948 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of John F. Packer and the former Eunice Wolford.
Surviving are her mother of Jersey Shore, a son, John F. Sipe and his wife, Saliha of Incirlik, AFB in Turkey; 3 daughters, Angela S. Sipe and companion Irvin Teets of Wardensville, W.Va., Hope R. Wittaker and husband, Richard, of Auburn, N.H., and Adonica J. Dixon and husband James of Pecksville, Pa.; 4 granddaughters; 8 grandsons; a brother, William Colgrove of New York; 3 sisters, Susan Cross of Mill Hall, Harret Lovett of Greensboro, N.C., and Mary Conway of Lock Haven.
She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the N.R.A.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Anna L. Tokarz
Anna L. Tokarz, 87, of RR1 Covington, passed away peacefully, Dec. 8, 2001 at her home.
Born Oct. 6., 1914 in Covington, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Bogaczyk Lisowski.
Mrs. Tokarz was employed by the Keystone (formerly Billards) in Covington for several years until her retirement.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Morris 55 club.
Surviving are a son, Theodore "Ted" Tokarz of South Williamsport; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Bette Tokarz of Horseheads, N.Y. and Florence (Robert) Metarko of Blossburg; 2 granddaughters, Anne and Kathryn, both of Blossburg; 3 sisters, Helen Kordyl of Morris, Marian Watkins and Frances Ridge, both of Covington; a brother, Andrew Lisowski of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and several loving nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Anna was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Walter Tokarz on April 19, 2000; a sister, Caroline Kolupski; and 2 brothers, Walter and Joseph.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m., Monday, at Zwicharowski Funeral Home, Blossburg. A vigil service will be held at 9 p.m.
Transferal prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Fox, officiating. Burial will be held in the parish cemetery.

Don B. Urquhart
Mr. Don B. Urquhart, 100, died Friday, November 23, 2001 in the Manor Care Health Center in Jersey Shore. Born March 21, 1901 in Douglas, New Brunswick, Canada, he was a son of James Urquhart and the former Hannah Atherton.
He was employed and retired from the former New York Central Railroad as a pipe fitter after 46 years of service. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union and for 65 years was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Martha Rayhorn. He is survived by one son, Peter D. Urquhart of Chardon, OH; a daughter, Barbara A. Thompson; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. W. Keith Rockwell, his pastor, officiating. Burial was held in the Salladasburg Cemetery.
Louis M. Yerger Jr.
Louis M. Yerger, Jr., 80, of 66 Yerger Road, Linden, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 in Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Alice Louise Keller, observed their 49th wedding anniversary on Feb. 13th.
He retired in 1976 as an Air Traffic Controller with the FAA after 30 years of service. He was honored by Williamsport Council 350, United Commercial Travelers last year for 50 years of service.
He was an Army Veteran of WW II, serving in the European Theater of Operations (Iraq & Egypt) 2nd Airways Communication Squadron Army Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He attended the Williamsport Technical Institute, served on the Woodward Twp. Planning Board, a charter member of the Woodward Twp. Volunteer Fire Company, a life member of Royal P. Steinbacher Post 617 American Legion, a charter member of the Faith Christian Church and its mission committee.
Born May 30, 1921 in Williamsport, a son of Louis M. & Emma Roy Heilhecker Yerger. He was raised by his grandparents, Samuel J. and Margaret L. Yerger.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Lynda L. Smith of Williamsport; a son, Louis M. III of Linden; grandchildren, Kimberly J. Kriner, Eugene J. Wool, Jr., and Molly Jean Yerger; great grandchildren, Kelsey M. & Kylie L. Kriner. He was predeceased by a brother, A. Eugene in 1994 and sisters, B. June Spencer in 1995 and Margaret L. Baker in 2000.
A private memorial graveside service will be at the convenience of the family at Green Lawn Memorial Park with his pastor, Rev. James Kasler officiating. No visitation.
