Anna V.B. (Swanson) Hansen
Anna V.B. (Swanson) Hansen, 88, of Bath, NY, and formerly of Tioga, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at Williamsburg Community Hospital, Williamsburg, VA.

Drew L. Huffman
Drew L. Huffman, 81, of 1900 Ravine Road, died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at the Williamsport Home.
Born March 31, 1920, in Williamsport, he was a son of Harry L. and Nellie L. Chapman. He was a WWII veteran.
He is survived by a son, Thomas Huffman; two daughters, Beverly Cornett and Norma Vickers and a brother, Jack Huffman of city.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wildwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Sanders Mortuary.
Joseph B. Kitchen
Joseph B. Kitchen, 86, formerly of 1156 High St., died Sunday, October 28, 2001, in the Williamsport Home. He was born September 7, 1915, in Milton, the son of Joseph B. Sr. and Edna E. Brown Kitchen. He and his wife, the former Betty F. Hodgett, were married June 24, 1961.
He worked as a machine operator at the former Plankenhorn Braid Works for 25 years, retiring in 1981. An Army veteran, he served in five major battles in WWII. He was a member of VFW Leroy Buck Post 7862 and Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of the Church of the Savior, Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Robert L. of Mosquito Valley and Paul G. of Jersey Shore; two sisters, Doris Hollick of Jersey Shore and Lorraine K. Green of Williamsport and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Harold B., predeceased him.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maneval Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., with his pastor, the Rev. H. Frank Showers, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be 10-11 Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jack E. Meyer
Jack E. Meyer, 44, of 1844 Fry Ave., Williamsport, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at home.
Born April 11, 1957, in Williamsport, he was a son of George and Ruth Steppe Meyer. He worked in retail at Eastern Wood Products.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, of city, is his companion of 26 years, Doreen R. Kepler, with whom he lived; a stepson, Warren C. Potts of city; three sisters, Martha J. Meyer of Milton, Connie M. Hess and Donna D. Meyer, both of city; two brothers, Jesse W. and Gary M. of city and two grandchildren, Warren Potts II and Torren Potts of city. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia R. Arroyo and a brother, Wade R. Meyer.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity UMC, 1971 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport, with the Rev. Melvin D. Bole officiating. Arrangements by Sanders.
Jesse H. Ramirez
Jesse H. Ramirez, 90, a city resident, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at home. He is survived by a daughter, Anita Muir of city; two grandddaughters, Sandra Barrick of Cincinnati, OH and Pamela Newmann of St. Louis, MO and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Crouse Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Joseph L. Ross
Joseph L. Ross, 60, formerly of Williamsport, died October 19, 2001. He was the son of Henry and Priscilla Ross.
He is survived by daughters Berseha and Jan, sons James and John, sisters Julia and Shirley, brothers Charles, James, William and Melvin and several grandchildren.
Mary E. Hafer
Mary E. Hafer, 78, formerly of Harvest Moon Park, Linden, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 in Sycamore Manor, following a lengthy illness.
Her husband of 57 years, Paul D., died August 31, 2001.
She had worked in the kitchen for the Williamsport Area School District. She was a member of Pine Run U.M. Church, the U.M. Women’s Society, the Pine Run Grange and the Salladasburg Senior Citizens.
Born October 1, 1923 in Linden, the daughter of Edward C. and Theresa Cornellius Best.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy M. Westbrook of Williamsport; two grandchildren, Marilyn Summers of MA and Paul Summers of Williamsport. She was pre-deceased by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral service, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Rev. Judith P. Hulslander officiating. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment in Woodward Township Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions to Pine Run U.M. Harriet M. MacConel
Harriet M. MacConel, age 74, a guest at Manor Care South in Williamsport for 2 1/2 years died there on Saturday December 8, 2001. She was formerly of Jersey Shore and Albany, NY.
She was born May 25, 1927, in Avis, a daughter of Glenn and Ruth Kline Beatty. Earlier in her life she was employed as a cleaning lady at The New York State Office Buildings in Albany. She also enjoyed Knitting.
Surviving are 1 brother - Glenmar A. Beatty and his wife Trudy of Jersey Shore; 1 niece Glenda Nelson and 2 nephews - James and Wayne Beatty.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday December 12, at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore with Rev. Michael Guiswite officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Her family will provide the flowers. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Disease Association, 71 N. Ralph H. (Nick) Barner
Ralph H. (Nick) Barner, 80, of 1407 Cemetery St., Jersey Shore, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Manor Care in Jersey Shore.
He was born in Sunbury, Aug. 25, 1921, a son of Gardner O. and Eva Shuman Barner. He was a corporal with the U.S. Army during WWII. At one time, he was a member of Antes Fort United Methodist Church. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, caning chairs and woodworking.
On March 7, 1946, he married the former Rosie Halstead, who survives. He was employed for over 34 years with Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy Ingraham and her husband John of Jersey Shore; two sons, Steven J. Barner and his wife Barbara of Mill Hall and Gary W. Barner and his wife Maryann of Jersey Shore; one brother, Raymond Barner of Binghamton, NY and one sister, Eva Jones of Owego, NY; six grandchildren Jennifer, Reggie, Chad, Amanda, Kevin and Patrick and one great-granddaughter, Sabrina. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and “Gabe” Barner and an infant sister.
Private family funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with Pastor Richard D. Waters, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Williamsport, officiating. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
His family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimers Disease Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
Christine L. Kesslar
Christine L. Kesslar, 78, of 51 Strawberry Lane, Hughesville, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at the Muncy Valley Hospital emergency room. She is predeceased by her husband, Melvin (Gene) Kesslar.
Born July 5, 1923, in Tylor, she was a daughter of Vito and Carmella Longo. Chris is a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy.
Surviving are two sons, Anthony and Vincent Repaci, both of Hughesville; two brothers, Vito and Ralph Longo, both of Penfield; a sister, Carmella (Dolly) Gennocro of Emporium and 10 grandchildren, including a granddaughter whom Chris helped to raise, Christina M. Repaci. Chris is predeceased by two brothers, Don and Cosmo and two sisters, Nancy Ford and Dinna DiBello.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Marks Catholic Church in Emporium at the convenience of the family.
Viva R. Mensch
Viva R. Mensch, 65, of Forksville, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at her home. She is survived by six children, Barbara Mensch, Elaine White, Joseph Mensch, Steven Mensch, DeWayne Mensch and Louise Altieri, two sisters, five brothers and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, with Rev. Phyllis Hunter, pastor of the Forksville United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Thomas J. Scoppa
Thomas J. Scoppa, 72, of 601 George St., South Williamsport, died Sunday, December 9, 2001. He and his wife, the former Helen Cipriani, celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary May 18.
Born October 16, 1929, in Williamsport, he was a son of Joseph and Antoinette Aruffo Scoppa. Tom was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years serving as a Green Beret in the Korean War and Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous citations. He then worked for Mechtly Roofing. He was a member of the Williamsport Moose Lodge 145, the South Williamsport Lions, Garrett Cochran Post 1 American Legion, TPA and the Williamsport Area Softball Association.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Paul Henry of Piscataway, NJ; two brothers, Samuel of city and Joseph of South Williamsport and two sisters, Doris DiPalo of Montoursville and Isabelle Lockard of Robertsdale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Lawrence Church, West Central Avenue and Winthrop Street, South Williamsport, with his pastor, the Rev. Fr. Francis J. Pauselli, officiating. Burial with military honors by the Korean War Veterans will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
