Harriett Gilmore Deissler
Harriett Gilmore Deissler, 70, formerly of Williamsport, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at her residence in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Arrangements are being handled by Rose Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Herbert W. Carson
Mr. Herbert W. Carson, 62, of 1120 W. Central Ave., South Williamsport, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at The Williamsport Home, where he had been a guest for the past month.
Mr. Carson was employed by Ceraln Corporation, South Williamsport. He had also been the former custodian of the former Christ United Methodist Church in South Williamsport.
Mr. Carson was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, South Williamsport. He was also a former social member of Leroy O. Buck Post No. 7863, V.F.W., DuBoistown. Herbert enjoyed woodworking and performing minor electrical work.
Born Sept. 4, 1940, in Williamsport, he was the son of Walter A. and the late Hazel H. Baer Carson.
Surviving are his father, Walter A. Carson, South Williamsport, and his brother, Lone E. Carson, Lock Haven.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel H. Carson in 1996, and by his brother Sharon William (Bill) Carson in 1965.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport. His pastor, Rev. Maxine R. Mills, of the South Williamsport Larger Parish, United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
Relatives and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dorothy Foley
Our beloved mother, Dorothy Foley, 78, of Dade City, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Valley View Nursing Center in Montoursville. She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Homer Ray Foley, who died Dec. 15, 1990 and a son Robert L. Foley. Born Nov. 20, 1924, in Cross Creek, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Leal Grant and Arline A. Werner Oviatt.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Day of Muncy and Adajean Moeller of Tampa, Fla.; four sons, Larry G. Foley of Stuart, Va., S. Ray Foley of Spring Hill, Fla., Terry J. Foley of Riverview, Fla., and Wesley T. Foley of Brooksville, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family. McCarty-Thomas F.H.
Romaine P. Houseknecht
Romaine P. Houseknecht, 88, a resident at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit since January 2003, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Muncy Valley Hospital. She formerly resided at Park Place North, Muncy.
Her husband, Orval Houseknecht, died in 1970.
She was a 1934 graduate of Muncy High School. During World War II, she worked at the former Brewer’s Garage stranding wire. She retired from the former Pa. Wire Rope, Williamsport. Following retirement, she cleaned homes in the Muncy area.
She loved to cook and bake, particularly for her neighbors, and was well known for her generosity. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, Muncy.
Born June 23, 1914, in Eagles Mere, she was the daughter of Clinton G. and Myrtle Jane (Rider) Reese.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. and Barbara Banzhof of Muncy; one brother, Maurice L. Reese of Williamsport; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were an infant son, Ronald L. Banzhof; three brothers, Clifton, Cleon and Calvin Reese; and two sisters, Celia Birchard and Isabelle Waldron.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 5471 Clarkstown Road, Muncy. Officiating will be her pastor, Dr. Kevin J. Cassidy. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery.
Friends will be received at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mabel L. Bower
Mrs. Mabel L. Bower, 91, a longtime former resident of South Williamsport, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Williamsport Home and went to be with the Lord.
Mrs. Bower was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport.
She had been an active member at the South Williamsport Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed needlework, crafts, playing board games and cards and also working word puzzles.
She was the widow of the late Raymond E. Bower, who preceded her in death on May 26, 1991. They were married June 29, 1929. Together they observed 61 years of marriage.
Born May 27, 1911, in DuBoistown, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Helen M. Brown Fisher.
Surviving are one daughter, Margie (Raymond) Plotts of Huntersville; two sons, Richard (Beverly) Bower of Watsontown and Raymond H. (Carol) Bower of Huntersville; one sister, Margaret Mortimer of Mansfield; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren and her family of caregivers and circle of friends at the Williamsport Home.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by her son, James E. Bower; two sisters, Doris Worthington and Leona Dietrick; four brothers, Charles, Harold, Emerson and William Fisher; and three grandsons, David L., Michael and Todd Bower.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport. Her pastor, the Rev. Robert L. Driesen, will officiate. Interment will be at Montoursville Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers.
Relatives and friends may call at the Noll Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the service.

Larry D. Leonard
Larry D. Leonard, 42, of Hillsgrove, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, near Hillsgrove, in an automobile accident. Born Nov. 18, 1960, in Troy, he was the son of Carl E. and Betty Jane Williams Leonard.
Mr. Leonard worked as a logger for Percision Lumber in Dushore.
Surviving are a son, Christopher M. of Williamsport; a brother, Gary E. (Diane) of Hillsgrove; a sister, Carla (Jay) Terry of Shunk, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Daniel P.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Phyllis A. Hunter of Hillsgrove United Methodist Church officiating. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Thelma R. Peterson
Thelma R. Peterson, 79, of 361 Fisher St., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her residence. She was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Williamsport, the daughter of Clyde and Margerat King Riddell. She worked as a bank teller early in her life and also as a medical secretary and a homemaker. She worked for Meals on Wheels, and was very active with her church, Northway Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed bridge and pinochle and always enjoyed competition. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay P. Catherwood of Norwich, Vt.; granddaughter, Lauren E. Catherwood and grandson, Ryan P. Catherwood, both of Norwich, Vt.; brothers, Howard E. Riddell of Mohnton and Robert C. Riddell of Bellingham, Wash.; and sisters, Erma M. Haefner of Williamsport, Edda J. Matthews of Jacksonville, Ark., and Nancy A. McClain of Williamsport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H., in 1975, and daughter, Barbara L. Peterson, in 1966.
A memorial service will be conducted in May at her church. A notice will be in the paper announcing date and time of services.
The family will provide the flowers. Interment will be at Twin Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.

Sharon L. Mitchell
Sharon L. Mitchell, 43, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla.
Born Nov. 5, 1959, she was a daughter of Leonard and Jean Mitchell Sr. of Summerfield, Fla. She was a caregiver and homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Jennilynn McPherson; a son, William McPherson; a granddaughter, Trinity, all of Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Linda Jones, Kathleen Kratz of Langhorne and Patricia Curry of Williamsport; and a brother, Steven Jones of Warminster.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard W. Mitchell Jr.
At the convenience of the family, private services will be held in Ocala, Fla.
Paul R. Kressly
Paul R. Kressly, 74, of Trout Run, formerly of Orefield, died June 3, 2003, at his residence. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Paul R. Sr. and Ellen (Grammes) Kressly.
His wife, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage in September 2002, Mae L. (Heist) Kressly, survives him.
He was a self-employed contractor in the Lehigh Valley for 18 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Wallis Run United Methodist Church of Trout Run.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Arthur P. of Trout Run and Timothy P. Kressly of Homestead, Fla.; a daughter, Susan M. Jessen of Allentown; sisters, Kathryn Beitler of Neffa; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Keller Funeral Home, 1018 Church St., Fogelsville, with a memorial service to be held 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Wallis Run Methodist Church.
Contributions may be made, if so desired, to Wallis Run United Methodist Church or Sun Home Health Hospice.
Helen Rokus Dennis
Helen Rokus Dennis, 80, of Elmira, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2003.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, one brother, four sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred.
