Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Nancy G. Douthwaite
d. February 15, 2005

Nancy G. Douthwaite, 71, a resident of Ridley Park and a retired Taylor Hospital registered nurse, died on February 15th at Taylor Hospice Residence in Ridley Park.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Mary Golcher. Mrs. Douthwaite was a resident of Ridley Park since 1965.

A registered nurse, she was a graduate of the nursing school at the former Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia. Mrs. Douthwaite was a registered nurse at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, PA for 25 years until her retirement in 1998.

She was a devoted member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Ridley Park since 1965. Mrs. Douthwaite enjoyed oil painting and knitting and sewing in her spare time, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Robert Douthwaite.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William Douthwaite, Jr.; her sons, Rev. William Douthwaite, III of Palm Coast, Florida and Rev. James A. Douthwaite of Springfield, Virginia; her daughter, Cynthia L. Douthwaite of Stamford, Connecticut; her sister, Julia Adair of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; and her five grandchildren.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 628 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park, PA.

Visitation will be on Tuesday after 10:00 AM at the church or on Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM at Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA.

The burial will be private at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Aston, PA.

The family asks that contributions be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 628 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park, PA 19078 or to Taylor Hospice, P.O. Box 147, Ridley Park, PA 19078.

Deborah J. Greaves
d. February 16, 2005

Deborah J. Greaves, 53, a resident of Sharon Hill, died on February 16th at her residence.

Born in Altoona, PA, she was a resident of Sharon Hill for the last 18 years. Mrs. Greaves was employed as a bus driver for the last three years at the Southeast Delco School District. Before that, she worked at Macy's Department Store in the Springfield Mall for a number of years.

Mrs. Greaves was an active member of the Prospect Hill Baptist Church in Prospect Park. She will be remembered as a woman who was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. greaves was the daughter of the late Bruce Whitsel.

She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Greaves, her sons, Matthew and Micah Whitsel of Sharon Hill, her mother, Jane Whitsel of the Harrisburg area, and her brothers, Dennis Whitsel, Michael Whitsel and Russell Whitsel.

Her memorial service will be on Saturday, February 19th, at 11:00 AM at the Prospect Hill Baptist Church, 7th and Lincoln Avenues, Prospect Park, PA. Visitation will be on Saturday after 10:00 AM at the church. The burial will be private.

The family requests that contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 125 S. 9th Street, Suite 202, Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Frances L. Shero

Frances L. Shero, 84, of Riddle Village in Media, and a longtime resident of Swarthmore, died on February 23 at Riddle Village.

Born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Miss Shero was the daughter of the late Dr. Lucius R. Shero, a former professor of Classics at Swarthmore College, and the late Julia A. Doe Shero.

Miss Shero was a resident of Riddle Village in Media for the last ten years, having lived in Swarthmore since 1928. She was a 1941 graduate of Swarthmore College.

Miss Shero was employed as an administrative assistant in the Department of Engineering at Swarthmore College for many years until her retirement in 1987.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Swarthmore. Miss Shero was a volunteer at Riddle Village, Riddle Memorial Hospital, and at Trinity Episcopal Church; where she devoted much of her time. She was a great sports enthusiast, enjoyed attending different sporting events, and would watch all kinds of sporting events and games on television. Miss Shero loved to travel. She had been to Hawaii three times and had traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean Islands, the Cancun area of Mexico and the Palm Desert area of Southern California.

Miss Shero is preceded in death by her two sisters; her late twin sister Adrienne Shero, and her late sister Caroline Shero.

Her memorial service will be on Monday, March 7th, at 10:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, Chester Road and College Avenue, Swarthmore, PA. The burial will be private.

James M. "Mar" Maresh

James M. "Mar" Maresh, 45, of Folcroft, died on February 26, 2005, at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a resident of Folcroft for many years. He was employed as a clerk for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in the local State Stores for 19 years.

Mr. Maresh was a very caring and loving person. He loved all kinds of animals, especially his pet rabbit, guinea pig, three cats and a dog.

He is the son of the late Leonard Maresh.

He is survived by his wife, Annamarie Franklin Maresh; his mother, Cora Maresh of Folcroft; his brothers, Lenny Maresh of Upper Darby and Dany Maresh of Folcroft; his sister, Patricia Fossett of Upper Darby; and his many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be on Thursday evening at 8:00 PM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. The visitation will be on Thursday evening after 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The burial will be private.

George L. Sullivan

George L. "Pee Wee" Sullivan, 45, a resident of Prospect Park, died suddenly on March 11, 2005, in his home.

Born in Ridley Park, he was a resident of Prospect Park for the last two years, having lived in the Holmes section of Ridley Township prior to that.

He was employed as a tire mechanic at J & M Tires in Ridley Park for the last 3 years and worked at Star Metal for a number of years before that.

Mr. Sullivan was a great fan of NASCAR racing and drag racing, and was a member of the National Hot Rod Association.

He served in the U.S. Navy at Pearl harbor in Hawaii from 1984 to 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post #507 in Norwood.

Mr. Sullivan was an avid player of trivia.

He is survived by his loving companion, Lois Currier of Prospect park and his brother, Larry Sullivan of North Carolina.

His memorial service will be held on Friday at 7:30 PM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. The visitation will be on Friday after 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The burial will be private.

Alfred J. Mitchell

Alfred J. Mitchell, 87, a longtime resident of Prospect Park, died on March 13, 2005, at Taylor Hospice Residence in Ridley Park.

Born and raised in Eddystone, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a resident of Prospect Park for the last 55 years.

Mr. Mitchell was employed as an inspector at Westinghouse Electric for 49 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a graduate of Eddystone High School, where he was active with various sports teams, especially the football team.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, and as of late, was devoted to his great-grandchildren's sports endeavors. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Mitchell is the husband of the late Patricia M. Mitchell, and was also predeceased by his brothers, Sam Mitchell, Louis Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell and John Mitchell.

He is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Ronan of Kennett Square, PA, Kathleen Morrison of Wilmington, DE, and Marlene Stroud of Isle of Palms, SC; his sister, Rose Macor of San Ramon, CA; his 6 grandchildren and his 9 great-grandchildren.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 1901 Chester Pike, Eddystone, PA. His burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Marple Township, PA.

Wayne B. Fletcher

Wayne B. Fletcher, 78, a resident of Sharon Hill, died on March 13, 2005 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Prospect Park, he was the son of the late Mark And Alice Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher was a resident of Sharon Hill since 1989.

He was employed as a technical electrician at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for a number of years until his retirement in 1992. Prior to that, he worked at Sun Oil for many years.

Mr. Fletcher was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Norwood and was a member for many years of the Free and Associated Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Fletcher enjoyed oil painting in his spare time and loved to fix and tinker with all kinds of gadgets. He also enjoyed e-mailing his friends once he learned to use the computer. He also enjoyed history and often watched the History Channel.

Mr. Fletcher was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Fletcher was the husband of the late Janet O. Fletcher, who died in 1998 and he was predeceased by his son, Bruce Fletcher.

He is survived by his daughter, Janis Fletcher of Sharon Hill; his sons, Mark Fletcher of Parsonsburg, MD and Wayne Fletcher of Ridley Park, PA; and his six grandchildren.

His funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 128 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. His visitation will be on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. His burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Aston, PA.

Hazel D. Gingras

Hazel D. Gingras, 68, a resident of Folcroft for many years and a dedicated volunteer, Died on March 17, 2005, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Speier. Mrs. Gingras was a resident of Folcroft for the last 27 years.

Mrs. Gingras was a dedicated and active volunteer at the Schoolhouse Senior Center in Folsom, Ridley Township, where she would facilitate many activities with her wonderful organizational skills. She was also an active volunteer at one time at the Folcroft Swim Club. She was also active at one time in local politics in Folcroft.

Mrs. Gingras loved all kinds of animals, but especially enjoyed show dogs and birds. She was also known to have raised and cared for many reptiles, including snakes. She had a wonderful ear for music and enjoyed listening to all kinds of music. Mrs. Gingras would always be willing to lend a hand or help a friend and was determined to complete successfully any project she was working on, despite how tough the challenge was.

She will be remembered as a dedicated volunteer and a women devoted to her family.

Mrs. Gingras is the mother of the late Grace Marcocelli and the sister of the late Joseph Speier.

She is survived by her husband, Paul E. Gingras; her son, Benjamin Mora of San Antonio, Texas; her brothers, William Speier, Herbert "Buddy" Speier, Louis Speier, and Paul Speier, all of Philadelphia, and Walter Speier of Honey Brook, PA; Her seven grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at the Schoolhouse Senior Center, 600 Swarthmore Avenue, Folsom, PA. Her burial will be private.

Caleope S. "Callie" Soprano

Caleope S. "Callie" Soprano, 80, a longtime resident of Norwood, died on March 18, 2005, at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Concord, New Hampshire, Mrs. Soprano was the daughter of the late Stathas and Paraskeve Stefanides.

Mrs. Soprano was a resident of Norwood for the last 47 years. She was a member of and past president of the Ladies' Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #7213 in Norwood.

Mrs. Soprano loved to cook and spent much of her time working in the kitchen on wonderful meals. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, John J. Soprano, Sr.; her daughter, Micheline Soprano of Norwood; her sons, John J. Soprano, Jr. of Marietta, Georgia and Thomas J. Soprano of Concord Township, Pennsylvania; her sisters, Patricia Stefanides of Concord, New Hampshire and Julia Battaglia of San Diego, California; and her four grandchildren.

Her funeral mass will be on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 233 Mohawk Avenue, Norwood, PA. Her burial will be private.

Stephen R. Haws

Stephen R. Haws, 49, of Bethlehem, PA and a former resident of Prospect Park, Died on April 5, 2005, at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Born in Ridley Park, Mr. Haws was a resident of Prospect Park for most of his life before moving to Bethlehem two years ago. He was a 1973 graduate of Interboro High School. He was employed by plumbing and heating contractors through his working life.

Mr. Haws loved the outdoors, but especially loved fishing. He was the son of the late S. Richard and Miriam Haws.

He is survived by his sons, Eric and Justin Haws, both of Delaware; his sisters, Deborah Klina of Prospect park, Linda Moke of Norwood, and Cynthia Haws-Williams of Lester, Tinicum Township; and his nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2005, at 11:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 11th & Lincoln Avenues, Prospect park, PA.
