Joseph W. Mathers, 97, of Greensburg, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at the Weatherwood Manor, Greensburg. He was born Dec. 28, 1902, in Poland, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Machurak. He was a member of the Divinity Lutheran Church of Parma Heights, Ohio, and had attended the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Greensburg. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Depner Mathers; two brothers , Steve Machura and William Machurak; and two sisters , Mary and Rose Machura. He is survived by a son, James A. Mathers and his wife, Jean, of Greensburg; two grandchildren, John D. Mathers of Greensburg and Judith C. Mathers of Rochester, N.Y.; and two sisters , Mildred Gable of Masontown, Pa., and Joanna Gruno of Interlachen, Fla. Family and friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Greensburg (West Point), with the Rev. David Clement officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Private interment will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.

Russell R. McBurney, 45, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in Suburban General Hospital, Bellevue. Mr. McBurney was an Army veteran. He was a glazier by trade. He had been a member of the Harley Owners Group and was an avid student of tae kwon do martial arts. Survivors include a son, Russell R. "Rusty" McBurney; his son's mother , Kathy Mulligan-Noll of West View; a daughter, Leigh McBurney; his daughter's mother , Traci Freiling of Bellevue; a brother, Dennis D. McBurney of Hampton; and a sister, Claudia C. McBurney of Leesburg, Va. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, 1014 California Ave., Avalon. Burial will be in the Lithuanian Cemetery, Ross.

Florence A. McDonald, 83, of Greensburg, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at her home. She was born April 21, 1917, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Michael J. and Florence A. Campbell Murphy. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, and the Autumn Leaves of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. McDonald, in 1979; a daughter, Joyce Stevenson, in 1997; four brothers , Martin, Regis, Francis and John Murphy; and three sisters , Jean Keracher, Rose Carlson and Gertrude Broeker. She is survived by a son, Thomas P. and his wife, Paula McDonald, of Apollo; three daughters , Judy and her husband, Gary Gibson, of Southwest Greensburg, with whom she resided, Carroll Jean and her husband, John Sturnick, of Greensburg, and Robin McDonald of Latrobe; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township.

Louis A. "Junie" Metz Jr., 71, of Latrobe RD1, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Latrobe, a son of the late Louis M. Sr. and Katherine M. (Stas) Metz. Prior to retirement, he worked for the former Mark Lines and then at Laidlaw Transit in Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann (Mehalic) Metz. He is survived by five children, Karen L. Morrison and husband, Kevin, of Pleasant Unity, Kevin A. Metz of Belleville, Ill., Jamie P. Richard and husband, Roy, of Lincoln, Del., Craig A. Ransel and wife, Vicki, of Ligonier, and Lee A. Metz of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren, Scott Morrison and wife, Michele, of Pleasant Unity, Chad Morrison and wife, Kim, of Latrobe RD3, Jayme Good and husband, John, of Ligonier, Kelley Metz of Belleville, Ill., and Jacob and Kate Richard of Lincoln, Del.; two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Hunter Morrison; two brothers , Francis E. "Curly" Metz and wife, Patty, of Latrobe RD1, and Arthur R. Metz and wife, Mary, of Greensburg RD7; three sisters , Mrs. Anthony (Evelyn) Nemcheck of Latrobe, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Stoner of Latrobe RD3, and Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Duffey of Latrobe; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Watson of Hopewell, Pa.; sister of Ethel Viola Johnson of Monroeville, Alma M. Litzinger of Pitcairn and Norma (Pete) Wesley of North Huntingdon. David Richard Mull, 45, of Lakeland, Fla., died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, in Lakeland. Born April 12, 1955, in Jeannette, he was a son of the late H. William and Grace E. (Rohrbacher Woods) Mull. Formerly of Jeannette and Ocala, Fla., he moved to Lakeland in 1996. He was a business owner in Auburndale, Fla. He was Baptist by faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Carol S. Mull; two sons , Daniel Mull of Tampa, Fla., and Jason Mull of Ocala, Fla.; five stepdaughters, Lori Brewster of Alachua, Fla., Lisa Woog of Henderson, Nev., Lynn Kvaternick, Tammy McAdams and Courtney McAdams, all of Lakeland, Fla.; five brothers , Ken Mull of Ocala, Fla., Larry Mull of Lake Isabella, Calif., Terry Mull and wife, Janet, of Henderson, Nev., Jack Mull and wife, Joann, of Jeannette and William Mull and wife, Lois, of Trafford; three sisters , Darlene Smallwood and husband, Chuck, of Ocala, Fla., Betty Maloy and husband, Richard, of Greensburg and Nancy Bigi and husband, Richard, of Savannah, Ga.; a granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. James J. Mullen, 73, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of the North Side, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in Henry Co. Hospital, Atlanta. Born November 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Peter and Beatrice Gralish Mullin. Mr. Mullen was a retired mechanic for Eastern Airlines and a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Joyce Mullen; five sons , James P., Terrance, Timothy S., Brian P. and Patrick T. Mullen; two daughters , Maura Robinson and Patricia B. Wahlberg; one sister, Dorothy Weaver; and 10 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters , Norma Wentland and Ruth Geyer, and one brother, William Mullen. Elizabeth Schettley Murphy, 83, died July 13, 2000, in West Penn Hospital, Bloomfield. Born June 2, 1917 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Winter Schettley. Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters , Beth Hammer of Denver, Colo., and Margie Blahute of Burlington, N.C.; a sister, Margaret O'Donnell of Butler; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Murphy Sr.; a son, Patrick Murphy Jr.; and a brother, Fred Schettley. Margaret N. "Peg" Neilson, 87, of Grove City, formerly of New Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in the United Community Hospital in Grove City. She was born March 17, 1913, at Glen Richey, Pa., a daughter of the late Bruce and Kathryn Demi Caldwell. She was a housewife, a member of the Community United Presbyterian Church of New Alexandria, a member of the New Alexandria V.F.D. Ladies Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #281 of Greensburg, where she was a past worthy matron, was a past Watchmen of Shephards of Westmoreland Shrine #18, and the Presbyterian Women. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dugald M. "Duke" Neilson; a son, Bruce J. Neilson; and a sister, Nora M. Syster. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Peggy) Pirc of Grove City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon, the time of service, at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. Services to be conducted by the Rev. Terry Carnahan, pastor of Community United Presbyterian Church of New Alexandria. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg. Barbara Paulis, 63, of Esplen, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. She is survived by one daughter, Christine Hisington of Maryland; two brothers , John Paulis Jr., and Joseph Paulis; two granddaughters, Stephanie Simm and Kimberly Hisington, one great-granddaughter, Megan Simm; one sister-in-law, Betty Paulis; and friends Catherine Malinick and Missy. Mrs. Paulis retired from Heinz Hall as a Maintenance Supervisor. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. John of God Parish, St. John of God Church.
